It’s 5he Weekend!
Some interesting items ahead…
My dragon is going to be based on my real dragon – shown here looking a bit duller than normal…
Gerry should go with the colour-shifting paint on a limited set of key scales, with duller scales elsewhere.
Gerry’s project is not found… is it “friends only”? @avernos
I thought you were his special little fwiend 😉
Maybe it’s a “OTT Team” thing… IDK 😉
It’s got to be colour shift, gold to copper sounds fantastic.
100% this.It will look awesome.
Welcome back guys. Looking forward to the virtual expo will be tuning in for that. I like the scheme Khursan have gone with as it looks a little like Sméagol from Flight of Dragons. If it was me I’d take that lovely dragon and paint it up as Brayagh possibly the meanest dragon. My vote for painting the dragon would be the colour shift paints as picked some up from the online store and I’m hoping Gerry will do a tutorial on this dragon and it’ll give me the confidence to use them. Very much looking forward to blood bowl season 2 and shamelessly would very much love 2 extra teams as got my friends involved and the more team choices equals a bigger tournament.
Happy weekend all.I’m very excited about SAGA Age of Hannibal dropping,my Caesarian romans will have a third system to conquer after SPQR and Infamy,Infamy.I must be getting old,but i’d rather Black Orcs were Blockers in a Boyz team rather than a team of their own with a few gobbo’s thrown in for gits and shiggles.
WooHoo! It’s the weekend…er!
For me – Nile Crocodile scheme.
It does point me in mind of Lofwyr, the Great Dragon from Shadowrun. Maybe he’s about to “discuss” another corporate takeover by his corporation Saedar Krupp, in his own’s Dragon Den.
“Never make a Deal with a Dragon.”
Not sure about the rest of the model but I think we just need to know what colour Gerry is going to paint the Dragons Voonerables
I will definitely vote for Nile Crocodile.
Gotta be Gold. Bling Bling.
I’m voting for the Nile crocodile. Take the leap with Just So stories according Rudyard Kipling with his telling of The Elephant Child and the Great Grey Green Limpopo river to give life to that wyrm… lol.. yet another name to be debated among the rest
Get a Landshark for @warzan
Goblins! Snotlings! ALL THE GREEN DUDES!
I just saw “Republic of Rome” and my brain made “Republic of Chrome” out of it…. I think I just found the name for my Indomitus Necron force… oO I need sleep. Or coffee…. or both.
Weekend again. Thank $DEITY for that. I vote Nile because WYVERNS are not among the coloured dragons so would be more “natural” looking. Grognard? Moi?
+1 for Otherworld minis. I have a few villagers on the painting table right now for Rangers of Shadow Deep (and one of their rangers will be my Ranger).
I just had to look up the old Guildball video @warzan mentioned… that looks sooooo weird and from a different dimension XD https://youtu.be/ODKTPN6LCXg
I think a Nile crocodile colour scheme gets my vote for the dragon. I think the colour shift is a great idea, but might be too much for a model that size?
Yay the weekender is upon us.
Loving the word “fun” pronounced in the same way an ex-girlfriend of mine pronounced “football” (or the tone in which anyone else might pronounce “bodily seepage”).
Otherworld’s Pig Faced Orcs are absolutely amazing (well they are Kev Adams sculpts)… just a shame I’d have to sell most of my organs to afford an army of them. Their Kobolds are lovely as well.
Nile Crocodile is just too awesome an idea. Really settled into reality.
Blood bowl has gotten me really interested, already working on a halfling team and some forge world stuff.
It’s the Weekender! Hooray*!*!*!*!*d
I always look forward to this time of year as new Infinity usually comes out very close to my birthday. (which is next week)
As for the @avernos Dragon color choice….. I vote for the ‘color changing paint’, I don’t know what to call it as I heard it called ‘Color Flip’ and ‘Color Shift’.
From the Otherworld miniatures collection I think I most have that large Demon Statue that is very close to the one on the cover of the original AD&D Players Manual.
Really looking forward Firelock Games new kickstarter ‘Raise the Black’. My money is already set a side for this one.
I remember the first time ‘Beasts of War’ profiled Guild Ball in the {shed}. I miss the cosy atmosphere of Studio One with multiple Hosts recording a show. @warzan Can @avernos even stand up in Studio One?
My wife and I will continue to play Guild Ball. We enjoy it very much!
But………I did predicted the end of Guild Ball when they went with only a digital rulebook for the Forth Season. For me, that is the first sign that a game is in financial trouble. But that is just my humble opinion.
Gerry just about could fit in here lol
go for the flip paint Gerry.
&exph=1333&expw=2000&q=Flip+Paint+Ccar+Olor&simid=608038305398064467&ck=EFF9AA6099E51DF25A0458BF7A63FBD9&selectedIndex=2&FORM=IRPRST&ajaxhist=0
Like Warren I was on board with the flip paint but then saw the nile croc and changed my mind.
Looking forward to seeing how this turns out.
Also looking forward to new blood bowl, ive enjoyed playing orks to date, but was considering playing some wood elves in the future, really like the dynamic scuplts
Really enjoyed the show. Now if Gerry had opted for the frilled neck to the dragon I would have said that a magical, metallic paint scheme would be cool. However with the armoured neck I’d vote for the Nile Crocodile pattern. Of course there is a solution… build another wyvern but with the frilled neck and paint that one up in the alternative paint scheme? Whichever choice, it probably needs a pile of treasure to guard?
Otherworld miniatures are great and easily fit in with similar genres such as Dunkeldorf Miniatures and Diehard fantasy miniatures.
I’m liking the look of the new Bloodbowl Undead miniatures, but who can resist a load of orange haired dwarves and a death roller!
On the Guild Ball statement, as Warren was theorizing…..
It strangely mirrors some video games as well (where the competitive PvP element vocal input can warp the game out of the Developers hands in a way that turns away most of the (more numerous) more casual players). Sometimes the Tourney scene can end up ripping both itself and the game involved apart.
Not sure why this is, but I’ve also noticed a lot of tourney players aren’t that concerned about the hobby side of things (I agree with Warren here) and field either unpainted or a very basic paintjob (after all they are putting all their efforts into the games rules and eventually the “win”. The more “hardcore” Tourney players that I know would be more than happy to proxy anything for the game concerned (a few dislike having to play with the official line of figures), because for them the enjoyment is about disseminating the rules and out thinking the opponent (either with how the army list is built, OR an interpretation of the rules).
But it seems Guild Ball has fallen down this particular rabbit hole (it wasn’t the first and it won’t be the last). The fix for this happening again? Probably the designers just sticking to their guns, and not taking in too much input from the Tourney scene (as sometimes it can “rules lawyer” a game to death).
On Blood Bowl….
Not sure what changes have been made with the new rulebook, but I did find the rules for the 2016 edition rather overly complicated (should we all just trawl ebay for 1st and 2’nd edition rulebooks and just use the new minis?). If only they could make the game as fast paced and fun as Dreadball from Mantic I’ll be right in there, but I find (certainly for the 2016 edition of BB) that the games end up as a bit of a slog at times. But I’ll keep an open mind on this new edition and try and get a few games in, if they’ve made the right changes I might just jump back into playing it a bit more regularly.
I’m liking the new minis for the humans a lot more than the 2016 release, BUT prefer the 2016 Orcs (granted it’s not the same team (but the “chin armour” on those Black Orc just looks weird)). But I think the BEST teams that should have gone into the main box set to inject the “fun” that Lloyd is looking for has to be for a Halflings vs Goblin match (and those models NO-ONE could argue about if they look good or bad…they are epic ) 😀
I agree 100% on Blood Bowl vs Dreadball. It lost its way a little with balance but 2nd ed did a half decent job on fixing that. More than anything it was fast, fun and you could pull off some amazing moves, exactly what a sports boardgame should be ??
That said I got an idea for a Blood Bowl team and will convert it up one day. One day …
Very nice.
I’d go with the Nile Crocodile paint sceme with a light overspray of thinned color shift paints. Probably a yellow or green with a hint of red for the shifters. I’d apply the shifters while the base colors are still damp to allow them to settle in and give that muted sheen and color shift. Some nice highlighting and a clear coat to seal everything and she’ll look gorgeous.
the dinos with lasers look fabulous.
Always wanted Dino riders as a kid but my Dad told me they were too silly, I ask you what’s silly about that?
Lol it needs more guns?
And a red stripe like the A Team van down the side ?
Call it what you like but Gold to a heavy contrasting colour would be awesome, maybe a greenish. So MAYBE the colour flip at the paints used for the croc scheme. Gerry can handle that easy 🙂
some great new games coming out great to see the show cover them.
Happy weekend!
For me it would have to be the colourshift plan for the Dragon. Just love those metallic dragons.
As for the rest. I’ve been out of Blood Bowl for years but picked up the computer game during lockdown and enjoyed it so this is perfect timing for me . . . aaaaand . . . I’m a Guild Ball player (which is why I haven’t played Blood Bowl for years) so this has been a bittersweet week. I’m one of the collectors (as Gerry or was it Warren called us), so I will end up with every team and I fully intend to keep playing as long as I can find opponents. (Interestingly I did win my demo game . . . and then lost my next 28 games.) I can see why GB has been ended but the manner and wording that SFG have used to end has been, frankly, fairly insulting. But what’s done is done. The world moves on and there are always games to play.
I hope the new blood bowl rules will make for quicker, less finnicky games.
My favorite teams are the dark elves and wood elves!
Nile Dragon because its a better challenge !
Also with the Nile crocodile scheme you could call the Vlog series “What a Croc”. You can have that for free.
Liked, subbed, dong dinged…. so the options are Gerry gets to slap a coat of colourshift paint on and maybe a few discreet washes here and there and calls it done, or painstakingly hand-paints hundreds of little patches of various dark colours to recreate crocodile skin? It’s got to be Nile Crocodile every time!
Now to sit back and wait for my name to get pulled out of a hat to win some sweet, sweet Blood Bowl goodies. Yay Blood Bowl!
Aye up…the choice of the painting of the dragon should be …the colour shifting paints, it will look epic ?
In short;
– Nile Crocodile Gerry.
– Stop with the Underworlds minis! I already have more stuff than I can paint
– Bogenhofen Barons look great! I really hope this spills into new sculpts for Empire/Cities of Sigmar one day
– Epic Saga will be ….. EPIC! Hope this can be ported into Age of Vikings and Age of Magic. Squeee!
– Guild Ball, like all skirmish games had a finite number of factions and models people would buy. GW (and in a more limited sense Mantic) is probably the only company that have realised skirmish games should be gateway games to larger scale games. EG Kill Team, Combat Patrol, Incursion, Onslaught, Armagedeon. Somehow you went from 3 pushfit marines to a house full of minis. You can’t do that with a fantasy football team game. SteamForge should have known this from the start. If they wanted to add longevity to the line they should have built on the world, perhaps an RPG, etc.
– Dwarven Forge is next level scenery. Just two comments though, it’s heavy and can be difficult to store. Oh and they clearly use cocaine in it’s production as it’s highly addictive.
I would like to see Color Shift.
Great show. I always love the Dark Elf team, and the new Ogre team looks great.
The Weekender is back! I missed you guys last week.
As much as I love color shift paints, I think that naturalistic sculpt is perfect for more natural coloration. I say go for the Nile Crocodile.
Maybe it’s my inner Necromancer but I love those Halloween Blood Bowl players.
Nile Crocodile, for sure. Colorshift would look like some insect/beetle.
Great show. Really enjoyed the indy of the week.
Go for the Nile Croc!
I think I will have to vote for the Colorshift… I’ve been playing with it on my gaslands cars.. I’m curious how it works on creatures.
Nile Croc for me.
I only got into Blood Bowl in 2018 buying the boxset by chance for me and the wife to play but we love it due to randomness and humour. Looking forward to a new box set with new sculpts.
I think, with the wonderful wings Gerry’s already painted, the crocodile route is the way to go.
After watching this I looked up some youtube videos of Blood Bowl. Ive never played it personally but it looks pretty cool.
While I think the Nile Crocodile look would be awesome, I’m voting for the colour shift. The wings already look mighty impressive.
Saw the Blood Bowl article the other day, colour me interested for sure. Currently searching through the Otherworld minis site with Frostgrave in mind, great idea.
Dwarven Forge has lovely stuff, but damn it’s expensive.
@warzan, I think you will enjoy code one, I started with it and I am happily surprised in how simple it is with what I thought it would be and enjoy it a lot.
Nile crocodile…. and it doesn’t go in Warzans dungeon. That was meant to show off models he has painted. Only his paint jobs. Hold him to that.
Nile Crocodile for me. With those leathery wings I think it would look great.
Wow, what a nice dragon. I think the color shift would definitely be amazing to try out on it.
Gotta be colourshift, with a metalic green.
The Nile Crocodile paint scheme would be difficult to pull off but I think it would look amazing.
Be interesting to see the Dragon with the colour shift paints… mainly to see what it looks like and how they are used
Initially I’d say Nile Crocodile but on further consideration the Colourshift would make the dragon really pop.
A colour shift dragon sounds good to me.
Got some colour shift paints myself that I seldom use, but for the dragon they seem ideal.
I do like the nrw Spooky boys BB team.
I vote colourshift for the dragon. Looking forward to the new edition of bloodbowl. I hope they don’t mess it up with the rules changes. New teams look good, except for the Necros which are stinking imo.
I prefer the Nile crocodile look for the dragon.
I’d forgotten all about Otherworld Miniatures, will have to have a root around on the site. I need to get some dungeon dwelling monsters.
Happy weekender folks
You should definitely go fancy and flip paint Gerry, it looks cool as hell
Dragon should be color shift. It would be amazing.
Otherworld minis also look amazing.
Definitely colour shift on the dragon, it will look cool in the dungeon when the lights are on / flashing
I’d go nile crocodile with the colour flip paint along the bones, horns and wing bones. Great show as ever, have a terrific weekend guys!
Thanks for the video guys… i went and backed Raygun raptor… £18 only..!!! I have a photon but not used it this year…Yes i know i
m mad...!!! But dont have the time to print, prime, paint and play at the moment. But maybe next year I have a Raptor invasion of earth army…!!!£18 for the files…. madness not too
Like the crocodile scheme personally, although both sound great. like necromantic team then the black orcs for blood bowl, been thinking awhile now to get back into it haven’t played since second edition
Nile Crocodile, please.
color shift
I have always been a fan of the Snotlings, my only disappointment with some of these releases is the odd repeat sculpt. With such small numbers it is always disappointing to see models with the same pose and features.
Colour shifting / gold flip… gets my vote, because if anybody call pull it off, Gerry can!
A dragon with shimmering scales like that would be crazy awesome!
I missinterpreted the thumbnail; I thought that the weekender was getting revamped.
Off to have a cup of coffee and reflect on whether I am dissapointed or not.
Nile Crocodile: will tie in with the spots on the wings better. But you never know till you give it a go.
I suggesst to go with color scheme of the last known living relative of Dragons on earth along with a bit of red/yellow fire build up under the throat. The Tuatara has reptile and then a mix of some of the best animals on earth, including 1pct of one of the worse, human dragon hunters!

“The tuatara genome contained about 4 percent jumping genes that are common in reptiles, about 10 percent common in monotremes (platypus and echidna) and less than 1 percent common in placental mammals such as humans”
I think you should do a combination. Do the croco one in the colorshift paint
Nile Crocodile.
I want to see how the gold turns out but hope that Gerry is prepared to strip it if things go wrong!
On fantasy sports games, I think they inherently have an upper limit on how many teams you can naturally put in before they become forced and power creep sets in. The pitch is usually a fixed feature and both teams have win by the same means (scoring) so that limits some options.
Arguably Dreadball is in the same boat which is why Mantic have been letting it sit. But in their case I really do think they should be resculpting the early teams as a way to keep it fresh. Their sculpting and casting has improved considerably over the years but the game itself is in a strong place for the rules. Just improving the presentation would boost interest I think.
I vote color shift. Great show as always guys.
Blood Bowl Season 2 looks amazing. Love the look of the new minis. Does this mean all the teams and Star Players are getting revamped?
Love all the different teams, but Hobbits and Lizardmen are probably my faves.
Late today, glad the show’s back
(pink dragon! or if you’re being a bi more sensible crocodile, I think colour shift works better on smaller dragons, I think they’d get darker and plainer as they get older like komodo dragons and other lizards)
Got to be Nile scheme for me!
What colour to the paint Gerry’s (@avernos)large beast, it has to Nile Croc as that would look totally amazing.
What Bowl Bowl teams thats easy it has to be the Ogre team and The Elfheim Eagles
Go Nile Crocodile.
Because it is a Wyvern. 😉
I think it would look more “realistic” .
My old goblin team could sure use an outing, so if I win two new teams they’ll have some competition to take on. Not that they ever had much success…
Definitely want to see the dragon in colour shift, would be cool.
I do love all the new Blood Bowl models.
These big new orcs are sweet.
But, I’ve got to say that Necromantic team is simply amazing. Love the werewolves and golems especially!
Nile croc for me!
Do the nile croc colors. That red will look dope
Gotta go Nile Crocodile because it would be so different from the norm!
My favorite blood bowl team in the electronic version was Lizardmen but I haven’t got a change to play them on the table yet. My back up team is the chaos chosen. But I would like to try out goblins versus halflings.
I would love to see Gerry paint the dragon with the Nile Crocodile theme. Regardless of which direction he takes, I am looking forward to following the project.
Can’t we all chip in a few pennies each and get another dragon so that we can see both??? Nile crocodile. I think.
I vote Color Shift.
I’ve used them once when painting Nemesis board game figures and am interested to see how they look on a bigger scale mini.
Shame about GuildBall, I was an original KS backer but was guilty of not giving it enough time on the table.
I like Blood bowl PC game, even though it can be frustrating. Fav team are Lizardmen
Another Great Weekender Guys! I like the Nile Crocodile look for this one as it would be totally different than other Dragons. What’s the difference between a Skeleton and a Zombie……. the Zombie back story is more fleshed out….. Otherworld Miniatures have a awesome line!
The gator paint scheme is such a great idea.. I am sorry, Gerry, but i think that’s the one getting my vote..
As for SFG… I don’t know that we can say at all that the problems were just with competitive play.. I think very much that production (resin) issues, delays, COVID, “SFG-Direct”, a failed Indie-go plastics project, and lots of other issues have contributed to that game going from a ridiculous high point a few years ago to it’s ‘death knell’ by SFG right now. That said, the rules are tight, the game is good, and there are 100s of models available… so it actually raises an interesting thought in my mind about ‘wargames/skirmish games’ with known limited life cycles… and how that might not be a bad thing going forward for companies … but whether gamers would want that? Sort of feels like the theoretical “if you could know the day of your death… would you?”… lol
Genuinely surprised that they are doing another edition Bloodbowl, usually the specialist games normally only get a new edition after they’ve been out of print.
Glad to see it supported though, I think the wood elves have the best sculpted team at present
Definitely crocodile colors are the way to go. It will have a more intimidating look to it and I always like when a little realism is brought into fantasy worlds makes it more believable. Also it will fit into more setting than a metallic dragon.
You had me at Blood Bowl.
Said this on other news articles, I really want to see more and new star players, like @avernos Gerry I loved me some Frank N Stein and Wilhelm Chaney!
The Dragon mini may suit the Nile crocodile scheme better but I would like to see @avernos flex his airbrush skills with the colour flip.
Always love some more bloodbowl, I know you’ll never win but they have really added some character to the snotling and halfling teams. For painting though, an armoured dragon like that would look good in the Nile crocodile scheme.
Nile crocodile please. Definitely Nile crocodile.
And the teams to be won should be the most ridiculous possible. This is Bloodbowl!
Finally found some time to sit down and watch the Weekender! Happy Tuesday!
For Gerry/Warren’s dragon, i vote for COLOR SHYFT. As for wich teams @brennon should pick, let’s go for something different… The Middenheim Maulers – Old World Alliance Blood (it’s got dwarves in it, wink-wink, i gotcha Ben 🙂 !) and The Elfheim Eagles – Elven Union Blood Bowl Team.
Thumbs up for Otherworld Miniatures, they do great stuff and I have a few minis from them.
Now i have to catch up on the XLBS!
The only appropriate answer is colorshift. Because it’s a chameoleonic dragon.
Go with the flip paints, Gerry.
Yay, more Blood Bowl. I’d love to win these as I’ve almost decided on colour scheme for my third edition human team and I’m gonna need some more teams to paint. My primary team are the crazy Chaos Dwarfs, The Mental Midgets, but I could use some more. My favourite of the new teams are the snotlings. Give me a fun, crappy team any day. That way it’s not my fault when I lose.
A bit late to the party. But I’m with team Nile Crocodile.
