Community Spotlight: Norse Blood Bowl, Speedpaint Romans & Shadows of Brimstone
December 3, 2025 by crew
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We'll be getting stuck into lots of great-looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Norscan Blood Bowl Team by dugthefug1644
We start off this week with some more work by dugthefug1644, who has been powering through yet another painting project. In this case, we're looking at their Norscan Blood Bowl team, which has come together really nicely.
This new set of miniatures were painted for a Blood Bowl league that has started up at their local club. Norscans were a firm favourite of mine from back in the day and I made mine using some of the Chaos Marauder plastic miniatures from Warhammer Fantasy Battles. dugthefug1644 has gone down the legitimate route and picked up the very nice plastic set from Games Workshop.
The painting on these Norscans is excellent and I really like the style of the armour that dugthefug1644 has gone with, giving the team a very grounded feel. A bit of extra work has then gone into the details like the team markings and the tartan on their clothing, elevating the team that little bit more. I am also a big fan of the vibrant spot colours like the blonde hair for the Valkyrie above.
dugthefug1644 has done an excellent job on all of the miniatures so far and even though they are still at the work-in-progress stage, they are looking great. The basing for the team also works really nicely and I like the Norscan spin on the classic green.
Above, you can also see that dugthefug1644 has been able to get in some games of Blood Bowl, testing them out on the tabletop. They have been getting into the rules and making sure that the Elves got a good hiding!
Speedpainting Romans by zoidpinhead
Next up, we're getting a look at the work by zoidpinhead, who has been using those nice new Speedpaint Markers from The Army Painter to get to grips with their collection of Romans.
The idea is that zoidpinhead will see how they work when trying to get a BIG army of miniatures painted. Inspired by some artwork by Peter Connolly, they have picked a series of pens that should allow them to get this army done quickly and efficiently.
As you can see, zoidpinhead has been making a good dent in the army already. There are some great pens in the range that work perfectly for that bright, poppy red of classic Romans but also as non-metallic metals on the likes of the chainmail and the instruments that some of the Romans are carrying.
If you're interested in the process, zoidpinhead has been documenting the different stages over on their Project. As well as discussing which pens have been used for which parts of the miniature, they have also broken down the thinking behind each step.
I have mixed feelings about the Speedpaint Markers. I think they're great but there is a trick to using them and you do need to be quite focused when using them. I will be following this project from zoidpinhead with interest as it might start to change my mind as to how I'm approaching using the pens myself.
Shadows of Brimstone by Anzel
Last but not least, we're going to be having a look at something a bit different as Anzel has been working away on some of the miniatures from the Shadows of Brimstone board game. Pulp action awaits!
Previously being quite a fan of HeroQuest and being put off by the expense of diving into the newer versions of Warhammer Quest, they were turned to the world of Shadows of Brimstone. It features some great mechanics, ace miniatures and there's plenty of it if you want to start exploring different expansions beyond the core boxes.
Anzel has done a great job on some of the characters already, showing off the hard plastic miniatures and the work on those ace Wild West heroes you'll be using in your games. I particularly liked the work on the fellow on the left with his explosives at the ready!
I think it's great seeing someone tackling a different "dungeon crawler" and painting up the fun miniatures from this game. I also appreciate doing the nice, desert basing for the miniatures rather than leaving them black. It helps add to the final finish of the figures.
Anzel has also started painting some of the creepy elements of Shadows of Brimstone and in this case, some tentacles! You can't have Pulp without tentacles!
Simple but effective schemes that will look brilliant once they're down on the tabletop. I think this is an ace start from Anzel and I am intrigued to see where it goes next. I hope that we see more of the miniatures painted and then finally, some games being played with all of the figures.

Great work all 😀
Tentacles!!!
Ten-tickles! Nice job everyone.
A-ha! @sundancer
Congrats to the other winners and thanks for the GB. I’m glad you liked this project. I’m having loads of fun doing it and can recommend the pens to anyone wanting a quick solution to a ‘lot of miniatures to do’ based problem.
Good job all. I like blood bowl bases that have lines painted on them, just makes them feel more “in game”, whatever that means.
