It’s the Weekender!
It’s another jam-packed show to watch.
On a ‘personal note’ I received notice today that next Tuesday I should be finally getting my ‘UBOOT Board Game’ delivered from backing of that Kickstarter. I’m really looking forward to playing it as I’ve been jazzed for it since watching the Let’s Play here on OTT!
If you haven’t already, you can download the app (got an update this week) so you can familiarise yourself with it using the downloadable Tactical Guide (https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/173585/u-boot-board-game-tactical-guide).
This is blowing my mind!!! I’m watching the Weekender on Friday night and it’s freaking me out. What am I going to watch in the morning with my coffee?
Kids cartoons. They’re aimed at the same intellectual level, but BoW has more implied lewdness 🙂
Happy Weekend!
I’d go old school for Marine Tank Riders. Beaky Tank Riders. Oh my!! Plus you don’t have to learn all those new names for the units!
That’s a great suggestion. Long live the beakies!
I have a few of the original beakies sitting in a box somewhere. I think they would look less out of place sitting on a tank than on the battlefield as they are tiny compared to the current range. Thanks for the idea!!!
Very good show.
For the grav StuG @warzan you could use it as a Land Speeder Storm, the Scout Transport (pg. 181 of Codex Space Marines).
You could replace the main turret or use it as a “Smoke Launcher” rather than a main gun.
It can carry 5 Scouts and the proper Landspeeder Storm Kit comes with Scouts that would look great as Tank Riders if you could get any spares.
I love Gaming in the gaps. I’ve got Two 40K Projects that are almost entirely Gaming in the Gaps especially the Guardsmen.
My Space Marine Chapter (plus their Father Chapter and their Renegades)
https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1367242/
My Imperial Guard
https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1380163/
Someone in another forum was saying GW gave released a big rules update for 40k and a lot of the assault rules have been changed
Awesome ideas!
Good to see you back Warren.
Nice to get back in the chair 🙂
How do you get your friends to try gaming in the gaps? My friends are such a bunch of old ladies and don’t want to try anything.
Gaming in the Gaps starts with you. It’s a cool personal project you take ownership of and make it’s as enjoyable as you can.
This will almost certainly lead to some cool and interesting results. When you use it in a game with your friends be sensitive to the rules and yes if need be nerf yourself to put them at ease.
Then just have fun and explain the story and quirks of the army as you play and have a laugh with it.
Anyone who is ‘one of us’ in this hobby will not fail to see the effort and passion and believe me they will enjoy it.
Whether they do it will be up to them as gaming in the gaps is always a personal choice to begin with 🙂
Have a great weekend, thanks guys.
Congratulations on the wedding!
If you want plant based wings on your Arch-Revenant instead of animal based wings, paint them as leaves. Many leaves have veins running through them.
+1 I reckon that would work really well
So Lance us getting a doin’? For a moment I thought you were claiming Droit du seigneur with him
Nothing annoys me more than the procession of cars and the repeated honking of horns.
Not sure what is happening to this hobby/pastime when you hear ‘The game is an asymmetrical narrative combat game’
Best intro ever! ^_^
Congrats for next week Lance.
Looking forward to flames of war bootcamp I’m just getting in WW2 gaming.
It’s the Weekend!
Thanks to tradition it’s another long Weekend in the UK with an extra day specifically to go pole-dancing… traditional dancing around a Maypole that is!
Cannot wait for Joan of Arc
Gaming in the gaps… Space Marines that have that have been lost in the warp, an abandoned and derelict chapter (asthetics would be armour that is damaged and repaired best they could, very sparse very rugged… think mar Max) that has had to make the most of what they’ve got ie using tanks as transports where needed as well as xenos/chaos weapons mixed in with their own. Could be lots of scouts as they were initially lost or swallowed up by the warp whilst going ahead of their chapter never to see them again
Is it Nachtwolf = Night Wolf or Nackter Wolf = Nake Wolf; their pronounce very simular
Nachtwolf = Night Wolf ?
Yes, “Nachtwolf” would translate as “Night Wolf”. I guess Justin is referring to the way Warren was saying “Nachtwolf”. If you say the softer “ch” too much like a hard “k”, then “Nacht” would indeed sound like “nakt” which means naked, nude or unadorned.
To make everyone happy, how about the “Nakte Nachtwulfe”? But perhaps only when it is a Full Moon?
Full Moon…Well played good sir, well played
SO the full title is the Full Moon Naked Night Wolfs?
or and I believe this is correct (my German is very rusty):
der Vollmond nackter Nachtwolf
Or the “the naked night wolf of the Full Moon Army”:
der nackte Nachtwolf der Vollmondarmee
Thank you… this bothered me more than it should. Same when someone pronounces StuG and Stuka similar… one is a soft G für Geschütz and the other is a hard K for Kampfflugzeuge. 😉
Happy weekend 🙂
Congratulations Lance! Seems we are getting married on the same weekend 😀
Congrats, I’ll raise a glass in your honour!
Thanks, same here 🙂
Warren needs to write down all these ideas.
Really liking the extra discounts available to Backstagers, Warren should base the individual model painting comps around forces he wants. Sooooo first competition should be Primaris space marines in a pose as if they were riding a tank and in white. All entries to be sent to OTT HQ and all winners models will be kept for display and gaming purposes 😀
Really liking the Mythic Battle Royale concept. Most of their games have too high a model count for me to go in on but with these being a great visual and painting scale I think I will be backing it just for the minis.
Congrats for Lance, No. 73 a blast from the past, good call
Great show as always lads
If you do sign up to Shadowborne Game’s newsletter, which it seems, once you have access to their website, is what you need to do in order to be entered into the prize draw, the box at the bottom of the homepage seems to work, but the first box someone will see at the top of the homepage doesn’t seem to: I received an email when i put my email address in the box at the bottom but not when i put my email address in the box at the top.
My god it earlier than a Wednesday and actually watching the weekender!!
Happy weekend
Another awesome show its going to be a shame that i won’t have have a weekend next week.
But congrats.
@warzan Nero Wolfe is an amazing show, I own the whole 2 series (24 episodes inc. pilot see below) they made on DVD (got from the states as they were never released in the Uk). I remember seeing them on Sky Movies. It was a shame that Maury Chaykin passed as he was an amazing Wolfe. The name you couldn’t get was Timothy Hutton who played Archie Goodwin. I have seen you can find the episodes on YouTube. Here is the pilot episode.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PfWFC2HttM
@warzan your sci-fi Stugs would fit perfectly in the ‘Hammers Slammers’ Universe, just another mercenary unit in mine and Kevin’s proposed , ‘Hammers Slammers ‘ into the Mercian Sector.
Thanks for the show!
Have a great day next week Lance!
I’ve got a placeholder pledge on Runerunners and hope to find the funds to increase it before the end
I’ve been hearing promising things about Breachstorm for a long time now. I had a look at the KS but the 2 player set is a little expensive for something I’m not already absorbed by
Warren is back and the weekender is doubled in time…YES.
Entertain me.
@warzan Having just watched GoT I’m thinking of getting a “tree army” but painting them up like the Weirwood tree in the climatic scenes at winter feel. White bark, red leaves and snow bases. Could look very different to the GW official colour scheme.
Happy weekend! Love the calm collected Gerry at the beginning 10/10 looks like he is writing his memoirs
All the best for next weekend Lance, hope all you folks have fun.
Jerry the adult in the room
Happy Weekend everyone!
Always a pleasure to see the mythic guys. I am still hyped for Joan of Arc… its almost here. 😉
Have a nice Wedding!
Okay that Breachstorm set does look pretty good! Also, quite glad I don’t live in NI with wedding tradition tho.
Actually, given the ritual kidnapping and public humiluation/hazing of the groom-to-be by his friends, family, work colleagues and random members of the local community (like Gerry apparently), I am amazed that anyone in Northern Ireland ever dares to get married at all!
My gaming group tried the breachstorm rules the last time they had it on kickstarter, it just wasn’t for us. Nothing about it grabbed our interest or made us want to play it again. Really too bad as I was really hoping for a new squad based wargame.
I have no clue what the shadowborn answer is but I am interested when they finally go public with it all.
Congratulations Lance, may the forth be with you.
@warzan Star Phantoms is the only chapter that hits me to do a white scheme. https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Star_Phantoms
I’ve been hooked on the insignia and the fluff. The custom non-GW market has some stuff I’ll be looking to get. I might save my pennies to get a dreadnought conversion kit designed by one of shops. 3D rendering is much cleaner than what Incould do by hand.
https://www.shapeways.com/marketplace/games/tabletop-wargaming/?tag=star+phantoms
@warzan check it out, I was looking that wood elf leader and found those wings aren’t actually his…

…. He’s got an insect on his back flying for him
ok now I’m sold!!!!
For a second I was upset about no weekender next week, but HUGE Congratulations to Lance! Also next week I’ll be away graduating from College, so would have missed the weekender anyway… 🙂
Hel the Last Saga sounds pretty interesting… though with waiting for all the other games to come out I think me (and my wallet) are fine with Hel being further in the future (I have no space for the board games I already have coming in). [Also I REALLY hope that Mythic does more with the Reich Busters system, the let’s plays for that have been awesome.]
Weekender time, congratulations to lance ?
as ever what a great show must now go and look at breechstorm curse you all
Never really saw the appeal of freemen and goblins with big red swollen testicles are not something I want a collection of…
Much prefer the Slaanesh vs Khorne box and that’s 40k and Age of ‘he who destroyed the Old World… the git’
The Grav-Stug would go great with a custom Primaris chapter, since Primaris marines pretty much just have hover vehicles.
Orky grav stag? Blood axe tank ride4s?
@warzan please please please go candy pink for the grave stugs…. just to see Johns face! Even better if he were to “assist” you. Amanda (i think) did a pink Sherman that looked amazing
Warren do it as a RDF rapid deployment force
Another great show chaps. Got the mix right on presenters too
Love what Mythic have planned
Super Fantasy Brawl looks like a lot of fun. There seems to be quite a number of arena style games out or coming soon. Riot Quest and Aristeia are ones I can think of. I have so little hobby time anymore that I really appreciate these smaller time and mini wise games. I can’t wait to try both Super Fantasy Brawl and Riot Quest out!
Another great show guys. I’m really enjoying the comments for this Weekender.
genestealer cults or adeptus mechanics could use the dream forge stug.
white primas riding a grav stug sounds like starwars storm troopers.
Congrats Lance! Enjoy the weekend!
hey @warzan consider building your tree men like terrain.
My plan for the wood elves Is to build extra branches using scenic supplies.
Twisted Wire and glue to make durable branches and then perhaps a crackle base paint to give bark like texture to the elf bits
maybe use a baking soda super glue method to attach the branches.
oh and how about some soft fuzzy flocks for those moth wings on that leader. like the sort you would find on a calico critter.
Wow thats an amazing amount of work that Mythic Games are doing.
Love the guys from Mythic, they’re fast becoming one of my favourite game companies and gradually want to collect ALL their games and expansions. Looking forward to Breachstorm as well, I’ve backed the kickstarter for all in 🙂
Great show! I’m chomping at the bit to get my Mythic games pledges. I got my FedEx announcement of pending shipping for Joan!
Breachstorm looks interesting…although it looks like every other sci-fi skirmish
I’m super happy to hear that the Pledge Manager is going to re-open for Reich Busters, missing out on this always hurt and now that Im in a better financial situation Im hoping to jump in.
Mythic games is such a great company. I have backed all their kickstarters. So looking forward to fantasy brawl; miniatures look epic.
Great show as always!
Oh man you just convinced me to get looncurse! I was on the fence but the 25% off sold it!
Now the wife is going to kill me!!
I so wish Mythic would release the four Virtues and Death models separately from the Soloman Kane boardgame. These models look so awesome – but the boardgame kickstarter was just too huge and the background story material was too unfamiliar to me to justify paying so much for five models as a painting project.
Great show.
The fantasy brawl miniatures look great.
A shame they are so big. Would have loved them for Role play or as leaders for my fantasy armies.
Happy weekender guys!!!
breachstorm looks amazing!! those minis are so cool
another weekend, another good show!!. i really hope i get a chance to win this game
Happy weekend.
Can’t wait for Reich busters!
I’ve seen the photos of my parents’ Doin. They got chained to the railings outside the church my grandfather was the minister of. Absolutely pelted.
Both kickstarters this week are very promising with excellent themes. Mythic Games seem unstoppable, with excellent releases since Mythic Battles: Pantheon. It’s like these guys cannot fail and everything they touch turns into gold.
@warzan About that Grav Stug. I really like your ideas for that and would love to give you my opinion on them. First of all. White tanks looks awesome. Over here at the German Panzer Museum they have a white UN Keiler (that is in actual service as I understand it and is just on display as long as UNO doesn’t need it to rip up any mine fields) and it is one of the most awesome looking tanks I have ever seen.
That being said, white and fast would imply White Scars. And White Scars would have been my second choice for my own army after Howling Griffons. The Scars would absolutely use grav vidicators and tank riders if they could. And I would still love to do a White Scar, or one of their successors, army an go really heavy on the Mongolian imagery with them, but I will probably never that. I would make them look really tribal and nomadic and add some tibet buddhistic and animistic feel into it as well. A lot of the respective imagery has that some dark feel that 40k sometimes invokes, where you are like “So those are the good guys? Do I really want to meet the bad ones?”
But I have another idea, that would be even more in the gaps. A force from a lost people (humans that have at least initially never encountered the Imperium Of Man after old night, who are now fighting alongside the Tau as irregulars, being supplied and supported by them, but also relying on their own technology, not being beholden to the cult mechanicus. The Tau might not have bothered to conquer them due to their relative military strength, but might be using them as a buffer or a war proxy. You could make them up from parts of imperial guard, other 28mm soldiers and old school marines and some Tau weaponry, making them baseline humans wearing astartes-grade power armor of their own manufacture. That is something that comes up a few times in the 30k lore, when the legions are eerily reminded of their own equipment by the looks of some of the non compliant troops they are up against. Rulewise one would of course have to make up a mix of Guard, Marines and Tau to play them, but it might make for a fun force.
The Imperium likewise has more pressing military needs, than to crush them, but will eventually get around to it. Until then it knows they are out there and rogue traders do maintain unsteady contact with them, maybe even getting them to fight alongside imperial forces from time to time. They would be accepting weapons shipments from both sides (Imperium and Tau) and be acting like one of the block free states of the cold war.
Great episode – and congrats to Lance! Just dipping my toe into historical gaming but looking forward to it. Reichbusters looks like the perfect gateway (I quite like the idea of Hollywood action-movie style gaming, rather than historically accurate, bogged down in detail, battle recreations)
Every time @warzan says tree man army I think it’s going to the start of a 2 Ronnies sketch! ??
Another great video everyone! It still surprises me just how well Mythic Games is doing for their beginnings not so long ago. Thank you everyone and keep up the wonderful work.
Mythic just keep coming up with great games. Good to see that Breachstorm is getting some public attention. Games that have a quick set up time and small figure count are great for a quick battle when time is limited. That is why I will be backing the Breachstorm Kickstarter.
Congrats to Lance!
Nice big update from Mythic 🙂
Was there a scout landspeeder wuth scouts hanging off it?
Great show as always.
Fantasy Brawl is on my todo list for the Expo this year. Interesting for the Hel secrecy – hopefully the game is interesting and not just Mythic being clever and trying a new marketing strategy – go for media hype and a short kickstarter campaign for Hel.
All goo dthings from Mythic though, so cannot wait. Played Joan of Arc at Airecon and made me with I had backed it lol.
@warzan you mentioned backstager discount – is this enabled yet? When I go to the store and try to login using my login details for the ontabletop.com site. it does not recognise them?
Do we have to register separately?
Hi mate
yes we have kept the systems separate (at least for now)
Backstage deals are posted in backstage.
You can see this weekends here:
https://www.beastsofwar.com/deals/deal-25-off-rrp-hobby-supplies/
🙂
Great show as always! I love the new gobbos and 25% off is a sweet deal, but I can’t pick up anymore stuff right now. The backlog is already too long.
Mythic creates some fantastic projects of late.
