Command The Arkanauts & Flying Machines With New Kharadron Overlords
April 29, 2017 by brennon
Some new miniatures are making their way to the tabletop for the Kharadron Overlords and the Mortal Realms of Age Of Sigmar by Games Workshop. Leading the way is Brokk Grungsson, Lord-Magnate of Barak-Nar.
"Brokk Grungsson exemplifies the self-made Kharadron Overlord privateer. He is rapacious in the hunt for aether-gold, and daring in his explorations of the skybound wonders of Chamon. Brokk Grungsson is the only Admiral that has successfully led a fleet around the Spire, the fabled Horn of Chamon.
Some Kharadron would be satisfied having achieved such honours, but Brokk Grungsson strives on, hungry for ever-more success and recognition – his natural aeronautical abilities and aggressive nature mean these successes are rarely far from his grasp."
This fellow with his rather fetching top hat is one of the characters that made people sit up and take notice of the Kharadron Overlords as something a little different. I don't really know whether or not it's the most functional attire for combat but it does give you a very different take on the Duardin.
Navigate The Skies
Matching him, and keeping your ships on the straight and narrow we also have the Aetheric Navigator...
"Masters of the guiding winds, Aetheric Navigators are aero-cartographers, atmospheric map-makers that help chart courses, find currents and steer along perilous trade routes. Even the most journeyed Admirals value the counsel of an Aetheric Navigator, for they can see barometric eddies and electro-aetheric vortices, and can plot a course through such hazards.
Using a plethora of mechanical wonders, an Aetheric Navigator can influence the winds to gain the weather gauge, speed up his fleet or slow down flying foes. They can even call upon aetheric currents to disrupt enemy spells, and their keen eyes ensure that they are proficient in the use of firearms."
Once again the aesthetic of the Kharadron Overlords is basically exemplified here. I actually like all the gizmos and whirlygigs he has around his armour and you can tell a little about his character as he is fascinated by that gem clutched before him.
A Worthy Vessel
Last but not least we also have the Arkanaut Ironclad...
Armed with all manner of big guns and with a crew manning the deck this looks like it will be the mainstay of your force.
It is bristling with guns and you can even pack it with some of your Arkanaut Company Duardin and Thunderers to make sure they get to where they need to be.
What do you think of these new releases for the Kharadron Overlords?

Huh, I was expecting Brokk to be released with the balloon troops (or have they already come out) considering he has one of those balloon backpacks. As for the rest of him, as I’ve said before he’s very reminiscent of the old Chaos Dwarf special character Astragoth; both have the powered exoskeleton with built in weaponry and both have fetching big hats. I can see this guy getting plundered to convert into a more up to date Astragoth by some of the guys over on CDO. I like the look of the Navigator; as I’ve mentioned before I really fancy… Read more »
They should just release these guys for Warhammer 40k…
yup.
Amen brother
The top hat guy with vent slits in said hat, guns in the mask’s curled mustache, a f*in cannon slung under his metal baloon, a chain sword, triple gun and skiing like protrusions (I know, they’re more like exoskeleton plateau boots)… speaks for itself, right?
The one painting the hull is somewhat funny, though.
The Navigator has a solid base design but all those silly gadgets and stuff are just not for me.
I need me some metal top hat now.
I hate them. Of course just my humble opinion but I cant stand them.
The guy painting the hull would have been a great touch, other than they’re supposed to be in battle and presumably being shot at. IMO it’s idiotic.
He also got a big powertool. Seems he’s repairing the ship, and them being dwarves, there’s no reason not to do a proper job and paint the repaired section as well. What are they, some filthy humans to leave a job half-done?
Maybe he’s on punishment detail.
Or maybe the ship got ambushed while he was on painting duty and he hasn’t had time to get back in yet.
I wonder if he is called Dave?
Nah, Arnold – he’s currently daily to fix a drive plate correctly 😉
Make the “paint” black and you got tar pitch used for mending boats of old.
a squat by any other name.
Unsurprisingly I love these and have the Ironclad and navigator on order. (My army is themed as Barak Zon ….. So top-hat boy from Barak Nar is superfluous to needs)
Have you guys seen this cool little 40k terrain kit they snuck in with the re-boxed Shadow War Armageddon terrain?

I think it looks really cool and is something unusual compared to their normal terrain. Unfortunately its already sold out in the US but I’ll def going to grab 1 when it comes back in stock.
Brokk like other balloon dwarves is silly and Navigator looks like dwarf version of Techmarine making Ironclad best of those three pretty much with default.
If Squat Techmarines are wrong, who wants to be right?
The big thing that really surprises me is how GW chose to make 3 ship kits rather than a multi use kit like they so often do. Being all different sizes most likely the reason, but I was still expecting at least one of the kits to be multi function kit.
I am waiting for 6 odd years time when they revisit this army and produce the larger vessels mentioned in the fluff (*shudders in anticipation)……. You are right though I expected at least one co-joined kit but I a grateful they didn’t as the extra sprue would have jacked the price up
I REALLY like them! If I was playing AoS this would be my army of choice.
WHY !!!
Great models but eh completely wrong for Warhammer.
And yet…
Ironically, this would actually be justified in the Old World, seeing as there is eh “precedence” for this.
These models would fit in a lot better if they were more ramshackled.
There is little precedence for anything at all in the Age of Sigmar world. It’s an entirely new setting still being fleshed out and so anything goes.
Did they make Warhammer Quest rules for any of the heroes?
