Valkyries Ride Into Mace Face’s Hornblower Fantasy Range
August 8, 2025 by brennon
Mace Face Miniatures has been previewing some more of the new Fantasy figures they have been working on for the ever-expanding Hornblower collection. This time, we've got some 15/18mm Norse Valkyrie riding into battle in the name of the gods!
15/18mm Valkyrie Riders // Mace Face Miniatures
First up, we have the Valkyrie Riders, who are going to be coming very soon via the North Star Military Figures webstore. These are one-piece (yes, one-piece) metal figures that come packed with detail and dynamism. I think the sculpting coming out of Mace Face is second to none, especially at this 15mm and 18mm scale.

I also appreciate the sculpting on the spears, so they're chunky (and hopefully won't bend all over the place) while not looking out of place. They fit the heroic nature and scale of the figures and should be able to withstand the rigours of the hobby and clumsy wargamer's hands.
The Hornblower range already has the mighty Shieldmaidens, who these Valkyries could fight alongside, perhaps as an elite unit serving alongside their fellow warrior women. Pit them against the Savage Tribes, who are looking to ransack the land and despoil the sacred places of the gods.
Norse Valkyrie Warriors On Foot
In addition to the mounted Valkyries, Mace Face has also been working on a set of elite Norse Valkyries on foot as well.

These ladies are wearing mail and carry some fearsome double-handed axes for chopping their way through enemy ranks. They also have those properly fantastical winged helmets, which will no doubt drag something operatic and epic out of a wargamer when these land on the tabletop.

I already have a cool idea in mind for how these miniatures could end up on the tabletop. The Shieldmaidens are defending one of their ancient sacred places, perhaps a great hall or a stone circle, from an attack by the fearsome Savage Tribes. The Shieldmaidens will have to hold out against endless waves of Tribesmen so that they can complete their summons and bring the Valkyrie charging down from the skies to help them in their fight.
If someone could slap some paint on these miniatures and do that so I can hobby vicariously through you, that'd be great.
Pick up these new Valkyries soon from North Star Military Figures!

I’m really liking the look of these, plus they mix well with the Wigwaf Dark ages range. Looking at getting these along with Wigwaf and the Copplestone 15mm fantasy range to get in with some Oathmark gaming (lots cheaper than most 28mm and more importantly the smaller scale means the battlefield gets larger (no more continuous lines of troops from on table edge to the other with no room to flank the enemy). I’m hoping the sculptor will perhaps move away from just doing female troop types and expand the range into more Hyborean races to add a little more variety (although they’ve just started doing some Savage Tribes packs).
