About the Project

The Others: 7 Sins is a miniatures-heavy big box boardgame written by Eric Lang, illustrated by Adrian Smith and published by Guillotine Games; kickstarted by CMON, with minis by Studio McVey. The theme is existential horror science fiction, avec tentacles. The setting is the last city of mankind in a dark cyberpunky future, beset on all sides by the demonic, corrupting forces of Sin. All that stands in defence of humanity are a handful of agents of an organization called F.A.I.T.H. And it is a loosing battle. This project is where I will collate my painted minis for this game and try to embarrass myself into actually getting them all done. I have way too many minis and tend to flutter about my collection, painting a little here and a little there as they take my fancy. Warning: I paint table-top quality, sometimes table-top +, sometimes just badly. Many of these minis look better when not magnified like in the photos. I maintain a blog where I post all my painted minis at www.themountainsofminis.com

I seem to have some serious first world problems going on… so  much stuff, so little time! Several kickstarter pledges have recently arrived and I seem to be running out of space…Where to put all these boxes? More importantly, WHEN to do anything with the contents? I already have several pledges that I have not been able to do much more with than look through the contents and pack the lot away. Truthfully, some of these might be destined not to be dug out and looked at again before I shuffle off this mortal coil and my heirs simply bin the lot of it. Hoarder, me?

Time (again) to try to dial back the kickstarter spending. I am thinking for the moment that I will try to push through and finish the bits for at least a few of the games I have prepped and started on already, before opening another box of literally hundreds of miniatures!

So we come back to The Others: 7 Sins. This existential horror cthulhueque big box boardgame kickstared by CMON back in 2015, has been on the back burner since I did the first Alpha team, four of the seven sins and the Apocalypse minis plus change some years/months ago.

Left to do I had:

Beta Team
Omega Team
Three unattached heroes
Lust Controller, Avatar and Abominations
Pride Avatar and Abominations
Envy Avatar and Abominations
Clergy, Medical and Hobo acolytes

For a total of 53 unfinished minis.

This last week or so I have been plonking away at a few of these, and have finished:

(The base colours correspond to their in-game role: Yellow Leader, Red Bruiser, Blue Shooter, Green Fixer. )

Beta Team: Will, Polly, Freder, Elle, Kanga.

Omega Team: Rosario (deVille), Nicole, Calavera, PhD (who you gonna call?), Adrian

The three unattached heroes: Kwanita, Benoit from the Apocalypse expansion, and Baldur of the Sons of Ragnarök bike gang.

The Controller of Lust. The last of the controllers, all the others have been painted earlier.

Corrupted Clergy acolytes.

But damn! These looked so much better painted before I took close-up pictures of them. The harsh truth hurts! I am getting sloppy in my dotage. Looks like I need to invest in a proper pointy brush again.

Left to do:

Lust Avatar and Abominations
Pride Avatar and Abominations
Envy Avatar and Abominations
Medical and Hobo acolytes

For a total of 33 unfinished minis.

There are more minis in existence for this game that I do not own. Both Delta and Gamma teams plus four types of corrupted acolytes, the Men of FAITH and the Sons of Ragnarök. I did not pledge for these during the KS and I will be damned if I pay some flipper’s black market prices for them.

However, If you know of anybody having any of these sets who would want to get rid of them for a reasonable price, feel free to let me know ?

5 year old Nicolas and his conjoined twin Nigel…they were surgically separated but still wanted to be together…Nicolas has a powerful psychic presence and is a very difficult enemy the heroes have great problems with overcoming, since he can turn both their own powers and innocent bystanders against them.

Nicolas has a 65x45mm base. and is made in PVC boardgame plastic.

At last we get to current events, and freshly painted minis! These were finished yesterday (at the time of writing).

The Others. 7 Sins boardgame has an Expansion named Apocalypse. Unsurprisingly, it includes versions of The Four Horsemen…and a …Thing…called Greater Demon of the Apocalypse:

They are all large minis. Apocalypse (in case you have not guessed it, the tentacled monstrosity second from the left) is 130mm tall!

This must be one of the busiest minis I ever have painted. There are tentacles, teeth and whatnot everywhere. I guess the brief was “stick some tentacles on it, and call it Cthuloid…I got a fever, and the only cure is more tentacles… no, I said MOAR TENTACLES! MOAR!” and this is the result.

I mean, I am quite partial to tentacles, but here they might have gone slightly overboard.

Well, that is the “Greater Demon of the Apocalypse”.

The base is 65mmx45mm.

Death…no, er… DEATH.

The base is 35mm.

Famine.

The base is 45mm.

Pestilence. or Pollution, if you will.

(why does this mini make me think of a Ronin?)

The base is 35mm.

and War. What is he good for?

The base is 40mm.

Each Sin is represented by one large Avatar (or Greater Demon, if you will) six Abominations (or lesser demons) and one Controller (or champion)

The Avatar of Gluttony:

aka The Greater Deamon of Bloated Body Horror. I call him Tetsuo.

40mm base.

and his little mini me’s, the Abominations:

I call them the six little pigs.

25mm bases.

And the Controller of Gluttony

I call her Leeloo.

25mm base.

Mr Furious, he who looks back in anger:

Avatar of Wrath

40mm base.

I debated with myself a bit whether to do him like the Hulk, but ended up thinking I want to keep the Sins’ avatars and Abominations in similar colour schemes to make them easier to recognize in game. And as I already did the Wrath abominations in red and black…

The classic red devil look always goes a long way, this mini is instantly recognizable as such and will fit as a demon-monster in most games. Especially since this is the most “normal” looking of the Avatars.

Abominations of Wrath:

Angry, angry dog-like demonic abominations of Wrath. One might almost say “Mad Dogs”.

So these are of course going to double as Fleshhounds of Khorne in those other games.

40mm bases

Wrath Controller:

25mm base.

Sorry about the blur. It did not want to be photographed this one. He was shaking with repressed fury, obviously.

The Avatar would be a Greater Daemon in another game. The Avatars are the main reason I jumped into the kickstarter campaign. I found the …different… take on the Sins appealing, and I like larger minis and weird monsters. So that was an immediate pledge from me.

Avatar of Greed:

I am thinking I maybe should have done the entire arms in the greedy green colour.

Abominations of Greed:

A conga line of little greedy bastiches

This face cries FEED ME louder than any nest-chick!

25mm bases.

Controller of Greed

This is one of those minis that did not want to be taken pictures of, these are the best I could manage. All the rest were even more fuzzy. A quick paint job.

25mm base.

Each Sin is represented by one large Avatar (or Greater Demon, if you will) six Abominations (or lesser demons) and one Controller (or champion)

The Avatar of Sloth (will also double as a Daemon Prince of Nurgle.)

45mm base.

The abominations of Sloth.

As soon as I saw these, I knew what the inspiration for the colour scheme would be:

They would have been a better fit if they were abominations of Gluttony, but they are not, so there we are.

40mm bases.

These also will do double duty as Beasts of Nurgle, or Spawn of Chaos.

Sloth Controller. 25mm base

I originally thought I would do this one up as John Constantine the Hellblazer, on account of the trenchcoat. But him being blonde made the hair looked far to samey with the trenchcoat and all. So I did the film version instead ?

The Mayor and some Corrupted Acolytes

The enemies in this game strike both from without and within…many of the City’s inhabitants from the top social strata to the bottom have become corrupted.

Such as The Mayor

Your regular Dr Octopus, mythos style.

Alas, true heroes are also susceptible to corruption.

The corrupted Firemen Acolytes.

…and the Corrupted Police Acolytes:

Acolytes come in 2 of each of 3 variants.

Rigid PVC / Board game plastic, 25mm integral bases.

Still got Clergy, Doctors and Hobos to do.

Alas, I did not buy all the extras so are missing a few types.
