Happy Sunday!
Happy Sunday Everyone!
Happy Sunday
It’s way to early for this.
Happy Sunday…
Please tell you didn’t just spend 20 minutes talling about gravel. Lol
Important topic… Needs addressed in detail 😉
Hehe. 🙂
Happy Sunday!!!!
Yay. Sunday again!
Happy Sunday!
Happy Sunday its so nice to start day with XLBS, and its not raining anymore 😀
Seriously? That knight picking up Models land throwing them?
Have you looked at that arm, he couldn’t even scratch his own crotch with that arm…
Happy Sunday
MtG? Lloyd don’t start messing with ‘card-crack’. It may be a craic, but once they get you hooked on the soft stuff (starter decks and the odd blister) before you know it you’ll be knocking on your dealer’s door at midnight screaming “I know you’ve got a box of the new stuff – I need it for my deck…”
Amen! Lol 😉
My FLGS had several copies of the Assassination game in stock yesterday, maybe as this was filmed on Friday…
Time for some constructive criticism… I’ve waged war over the last decade or two not to be sucked back into GW, specifically 40K and your not helping lol! It’s very much like taking you friend who is a recovering alcoholic down the pub and buying him a pint!
Needless to say I’ll be back next weekend, happy Sunday.
I simply love dust, but i have to admit i am still waiting for most of my kickstarter. I really hope this will not compromise the success of the game.
Happy Sunday
@lloyd and @warzan just a note on the colour of stones I could be wrong but I believe Normandy has a lot of limestone and chalk deposits so white stones would not look out of place.
I missed Holly, she’s grown on me 🙂
I’m thinking that your obsession to detail is making you guys into the best (well rounded) game table builders around. I’m sure that there have to be people that make competition winning tables and all that, but for great looking boards that you can play on, the stuff that you’re doing is amazing.
I also have to say that I don’t get concerned when you talk about such and such an idea, thinking “hmm… might be a bit naff… ” because you always seem to steer miles away from naff.
Actually, you can’t even see naff from where you are. Don’t think you’re even in the same postcode as naff.
Can’t wait to see the Infinity boards getting built!
Happy Sunday, did you leave the editing to the YTS guy this week chaps? Christian and Sam are beginning to mature into an entertaining partnership!
When you store painting in progress you stack them In a rack like this ,|,|,|,|,|,|,|,|,|,|,|, with an identical divider on top.
Happy Sunday everyone 🙁 Shame its so miserable outside, oh well best finish my Two Face crew for Batman 😀
We’re big fans of SDE and are breaking out Forgotten King for some bank holiday gaming tomorrow. The crossovers extend to Relic Knights as there are SDE versions of all six of the RKs.
I’m working the Ninja Division stand at Expo on the Saturday. If any backstagers are there then swing by and say hello 🙂
Am working out flights and stuff for the Infinity boot camp as I hope to go, but what airport is best to fly too and where are you based?
It might be best posting that on the Infinity bootcamp thread. It’ll be easier to refer back to and easier for others to find.
and relax xlbs is back !
you can still use the m12 cards in m15 you just can’t use the ones that got banned over the course of the tournament season, and those aren’t reprinted in that specific edition.
happy Sunday 🙂
Love the idea of the bootcamp…the DZC one was epic. But to be honest…I think you guys are overdoing it a bit. The amount of work you have to put in for the standard you set yourself is redicules. And if you look at it at a cost/income ration content wise….besides from being absolutly mega cool stuff…it looks like you have to spent to much time and resources for the actual content you get. That is at least the impression I get on my side…could be wrong. But I would not mind to have the bootcamps spread on a wider timeframe…to be something special once in a while…and if for nothing else than for the sake of you guys…you must be needing some time to catch your breath at last, don´t you?
wider timeframes for boot camps would be a load off for the guys, but if they get used to running one every other month, scaling back to one a quarter if they’re feeling the crunch is far better than trying to scale up to one every other month to meet demand- and lets be honest from what’s gone before they could probably sell one out once a month.
I did try and tell @warzan I thought that whilst it is awesome to have the terrain to the level they did at the DZC camp I am sure that they could get away with scaling back on the terrain, but Warren was sticking to his guns that it was all part of the experience.
We have a vision 🙂 lol
’tis a vision of madness….. LOL
@lloyd, Sam, etc …
FFG have recently announced a new 40K board game – Forbidden Stars – https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/forbidden-stars/
Beasts of War Cool War!
Can anyone tell me what that arm does? They didn’t really touch on it in the show 😉
Good to see a full studio following Salute, good show! 🙂
I1 sd ap2
if blows up a tank or kills a monsters creature it can though it up to 12″ s is the t of creature or half the front armour of the vehicle
Happy Sunday. Love the dreadlocks John!
It was a good show. My only complaint/suggestion is that Warren give the people brought on to talk the time to talk. On the front stage Sam was brought on to talk about room raiders and maybe was allowed to say a sentence or two. On back stage you have John sitting there to talk about process and he might as well not been there.
Lloyd, you talk about Dust all you like. Who knows, it might even be the minis game for the non-mini players like me. (Apart from X-Wing of course).
Did I mis-hear or was it seriously suggested that the new 40k assassin game is good value at £75?!
The fact they charge way too much for individual models does not make this offer good value.
Plastic crack, indeed. And some people are sooooooo addicted!
I saw a few copies of this sitting around in a prominent place in my FLGS yesterday. They weren’t flying off the shelf in a limited edition fashion, so not everyone thinks that £75 is value for money.
Either that or they all have enough terrain ruins and don’t need any more – even if this new terrain has an assassin model glued to it.
Only the assassins and possibly the terminator lord are new sculpts. The cultists are the standard 40k cultists and the three space marines are the same old sculpts that have been around for years (possibly decades).
The old assassin sculpts aren’t even that bad. Just buy all four of them and save yourself half the cost of the board game.
From the information I got in White Dwarf the game itself looks to be very poor with limited re-playability. Rooms are generated randomly but they have a priority, so I’ll bet the two rooms you need are almost always the last two you look in.
I remember watch Pete’s Dragon in the cinema in the 70’s
40k rise of the kage anyone? Good to see GW are trying new stuff atleast!
‘New’ – where?
Great tip on using aquarium rocks for rubble. I have picked up a big bag of this stuff a couple of days ago and it’s a quick and easy way to make your table look a little less “modular,” especially around the buildings, bunkers, craters, etc.
I love the photo of @johnlyons working with that huge pile of hedgerows. I used the HobbyLab technique and made up a bunch of these hedgerows myself about two months ago and I can say this much . . . YOU NEVER SEEM T O HAVE ENOUGH, especially when it comes to different lengths. Then again, I game in 15mm so I always need more of the shorter lengths than I imagine you would at 28mm Bolt Action.
Also, I’m only building one gaming table. I can only imagine 12. 😀 I can’t wait to see some of these for the boot camp!
Cat litter works great too. I got a sack of it for less than £6. Add some minced-up sprue, a few bits of this-and-that and you are ready to go.
@oriskany – absolutely, what sort of colours did you find?
@unclejimmy Do you get much dust of the Cat litter your using? We’ve got bags of it here but it’s used as basing etc as the stuff we have is petty dusty.
Happy Sunday guys n girls. Great news about the upcoming and next bootcamps. The price you put on the tickets I feel undervalues your work and cost on putting on these events. Maybe you could auction/raffle off the scenery that you’re least likely to use again? Or maybe half the boards after an event?
I’d also recommend considering more skirmish games such as Bushido, Arena Rex, Guildball, Relics etc which needs a far less amount of terrain to look nice.
June is going to be busy for me but I’ll eagerly await future announcements for more bootcamps. Maybe look to host one at an established games club so you don’t have as much work to do? I guarantee the social aspect is what everyone goes for.
Have a great week everyone. This week I shall be mostly painting Relics, Infinity and Arena Rex.
I agree with others on spreading out the boot camps. It appears those, combined with the hoth table stuff, have taken over the site. When was the last time we saw a battle report or a hobby lab?
It’s not as entertaining watching blogs of others enjoy themselves. If you keep doing these, I think you should use the prep for them as a vehicle for producing site content. If you are making terrain for the event, make them into hobby labs for example.
Also, for bolt action, any plans for terrain in places other than Normandy hedgerows?
Well put, I agree with this.
I concur, I want my WEEKLY (remember when it was weekly?) hobby lab back. I’m not saying you shouldn’t cover the bootcamps, they are interesting to hear about, but keep in mind, not so much for those who aren’t attending. Ooooo, and where the hell is tank week?! 😉
@foehammer888 last hobby lab was 168 days ago…
Thank you for another excellent show guys; oh yes and gals this weekender. And have to say yes Dawn an Gianna you are right, we need more Malifaux on BOW. Until next weekender hope you all have an enjoyable week gaming and building.
Malifaux is AMAZING! We need a Malifaux Boot Camp! 😀
I’d like to come to that!
The part I enjoyed the most was seeing a significant part of the BOW crew on the weekender and XLBS. Seeing just how much BoW has grown and now dominates two continents ( 😀 ) is really exciting. I know Dawn and Gianna have been with BoW for some time, but it just seems the circle is complete (or some other kind of existential bollocks) with them on the weekenders/XLBS in such a significant manner and with all of the other in-house Beasts crew present. Anyway, while the content was as good as ever, the camaraderie just really seemed to cement this show as a top ten qualifier.
Aww, thanks Bitrider! It was a blast chatting with the guys. I hope we can do that more in the future. 😀
I have to agree with @bitrider
That sense of community and the feeling I get of knowing the BoW guys is really the main attraction of what they (you) do. The price of backstage membership is often compared to the cost of a coffee or a magazine subscription, and it’s interesting to compare it with what I used to pay for White Dwarf.
What GW seemed to fail to realise, or forgot over time, was that it’s community and personality that draw people in. No advert, no matter how professionally produced, is going to tempt me to buy, or get me as excited about a product, as seeing someone I know and like getting excited about it and telling me about how they use it in their hobby.
BoW news coverage, and the Salute live blogging with so many different correspondants was really the epitome of this, really makes me feel a part of an exciting hobby which is growing and evolving and becoming more welcoming and diverse all the time.
“and it’s interesting to compare it with what I used to pay for White Dwarf” – how true!
Fantasy Flight aren’t allowed to produce miniatures that might compete with or be used in the 40k tabletop game. That’s why we got the busts in Relic. Personally I think it really limits what Fantasy Flight can actually do in terms of boardgames, which is a shame really.
As for Execution Force, I feel like GW have really missed an opportunity here. Rather than a half arsed assassin game with a set board, they could have gone whole hog and produced a co-op dungeon crawl with random layouts, character advancement and stats for enemy units beyond what you got in the core box (which would encourage people picking up some extra packs of minis). Instead we get this boring mess with miniatures that are, lets be entirely honest here, entirely impractical.
In their current state i dont think They could have produced something better tbh .. its just not in their thinking anymore. They have turned into a company that cares nothing for how their IPS are handled in video games, anything for a quick buck without any concern for the bad rep it smears the brand in. Frankly its disgusting what they are doing, both to fans and to themselves.
You’re probably right.
If you look at the timing of the boardgame’s release, combined with the new army for 40k and the rumors floating around about a new Codex: Space Marines it seems fairly clear that they are trying to shore up their sales before we hit the end of the financial year.
At this rate I wouldn’t be surprised to see an 8th edition of 40k announced for next year, along with another run of Space Hulk.
Hello and Happy Sunday Folks, Hope all is well with you’ll . Lloyd yes the game is out here in the states , came out on Friday night, at midnight ( I know I’m a nerd 🙂 ) got it and Dude its wicked awesome. Mini’s are sweet, don’t like the large bases the assassins are on but they are still so damn sweet. It would be cool if GW came out with a codex assassinorum, with more temples like mad bombers, crazed hackers, and flaming arsonists.
Dawn & Gianna, great to see you’ll still in Ireland, when I was there with my Da & 47 other members of our family, I didn’t want to go home ether. love the work you’ll are doing on behalf of the gamers in the states awesome job.
Guys you’ll have to see the new Avengers movie Age of Ultron its wicked awesome. loved it all the way through.
P.S. John god bless you and hope you don’t go all crazed with the painting you have been doing. Would love to see you do those tutorials on painting basic troops for Bolt Action, the Germanys heer & ss troops, Oh please don’t forget the paratroopers. Folks as always thanks for the show you are a highlight of my Sunday before church. Thanks and have a blast 🙂 . Pepsidan
We had the best time across the pond, @pepsidan. 🙂 I am not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow am! Lol
It was great to meet Dawn & Gianna at Salute last week and I’m glad you could stay around and join in on the weekender.
I look forward to hearing what you guys are upto back in the states and maybe the BOW team could setup an evening live chat / video link. I think it would keep all of us conntected wherever we are.
Thanks, @chaingun! It was amazing to meet everyone and be part of the team. Looking forward to making a habit out of this. 😉
good show guys n’gals the tables sound as of they will be ace with details you are going to.
A good show. But the “expert” you have for 40k clearly knows very little. Sam should handle that part of the show himself.
And those mechanicus robots looks pants. Knights are amazeballs.
Dawn and Gianna are really great, loved them.
Thanks so much, @nosebiter. 🙂
Great show as always and Happy Sunday!
Played execution force earlier on. Her are my thoughts.
Pros – The minis look amazing
Nice and balanced game (won on the last roll of the last turn)
Cons – 1 mission!!!!!!
Would it have hurt to write a bit more content for what is really a nice game?
I think if you can incorporate the whiter color in the walls/cottages, you would be better off. That might help the washing/drybrushing problem.
Another great weekender. Dawn and Gianna are great how about getting them to do a video of their hobby week and posting it or edit it into your segment. It will be like they never left.
Looking forward to seeing this when I get home from work today – all yesterday where spend at a DzC tournament
Living Card Games for me, will never buy into MTG
hey guys great show. I just had a question for you guys at beast of war though.
You talked in the past weeks of several painting guides that are to come, including the ones for Bolt Action. Are they to be released soon? I know current priority is on the upcomming Bolt Action boot camp and that’s understandable but still I wondered 😉
Thanks again guys
Happy… Monday! The sound completely cut out for me at 4′ on Firefox. I switched to Chrome and it worked fine.
Regarding your storage problems – how about selling it or giving it away? I don’t know if the manufacturers would like that, but Lord knows we would.
Happy (still) Tuesday
you probs wont read this but i think the middle one (third from bottom) looks the best.
I say this because i used to repair stone and drywall and it looks the most realistic to me
i have an old intro deck to magic with a vhs tape (yes people im old)
Ive never got into it . The only card game i played was LOTR.
it’s mint so im willing to sell when in 60 days old on xlbs and can use the bazaar :P.
all except the origonal celofane is wrapped.
I love the U.S connection to BoW i visit the U.S alot and the gamers are always friendly and get you into games you dont see in the UK
