Platypus Industries is working on something quirky and horrifying at the same time. Drop Bears: Survival Series, Chapter 1 is coming to Kickstarter soon. Will you survive the perils of the Australian Bush?

Drop Bears - Platypus Industries

Drop Bears // Platypus Industries

The Bush is pretty dangerous as it is, what with the myriad of different things that want to poison you. So, throw Drop Bears into the mix as well and suddenly you're having a very, very bad time. These koala-like beasts are ready to rip and tear!

Drop Bears Survivors - Platypus Industries

Drop Bears Survivors // Platypus Industries

Your objective in Drop Bears is to simply survive until dawn. You will be working cooperatively to choose actions that will best help you survive. You can explore to find new map tiles and of course run so you can escape the terrible beasts in the darkness.

You can also use actions like search and endeavour which allow you to gather tools and craft ways for you to survive when the Drop Bears attack. You might also need to rest and heal so you can patch up your wounds. I wouldn't stay still for long though as the beasts are hunting you!

Drop Bears Miniatures - Platypus Industries

Drop Bears Miniatures // Platypus Industries

The game is going to come with nicely illustrated wooden pieces for the campers with miniatures then used to represent the terrifying Drop Bears that are stalking you through the shadows. It seems like Platypus Industries are really into making this look like a luxurious if haunting experience.

One of the neat things about the game that we've heard so far is that there isn't player elimination. If your camper is slaughtered then you choose from another one that is available. Each death brings the Drop Bears tally closer to victory so you'll still want to make sure that you survive for as long as possible.

I really like that Platypus Industries has decided to do something different with the "survival horror" genre. I can't think of many games where savage koala bears are hunting campers through the Bush.

Are you going to be keeping an eye out for this Kickstarter?
