April 22, 2017 by lancorz
Join us for another episode of The Weekender even though technically some of us are actually at Salute 2017 right now!
Weekender Podcast Download
We've got some mega-prizes for you this weekend as we talk Guild Ball and Mantic's Warpath.
Awesome Prizes
By commenting on this episode of The Weekender here on BoW or over on Facebook or Youtube you could be in with a chance of winning...
- 1 of 3 Guild Ball Kick Off! Starter Sets
- Operation Heracles For Warpath
Added to that we've still got the competition from last week's show which has been extended where you could win FAITH Characters and a Terrain Crate from Mantic Games.
Updates & Family Gaming
Additionally, yes, Lance, Justin and Ben are indeed at Salute 2017 right now. If you find them, go and badger them as they wander around and as Warren has instructed; you have to lick Justin's head.
The UK Games Expo has also announced their Trade Hall Plans so you can start to work out where you're going to go when the event hits this summer.
Warren also takes us on a journey into an adventuring family (don't worry, no Sylvanians here). Take a look at Jakevim's Brood from Hasslefree Miniatures as they've certainly made an impression!
Guild Ball Interview
We sat down with Jamie and Bryce from Steamforged Games to talk about the Kick Off! Starter Set that acts as a great introduction into the world of Guild Ball.
Make sure to tune in next week for our full week or programming where we'll be looking closer at the game and it's factions.
News Time
We get stuck into some news with Ben as he catches Warren up on events in the world of tabletop gaming...
- North Star & Osprey Dwarves - A new Dwarf plastic set is on the way from North Star and will be at Salute!
- Gripping Beast's Salute Releases - Will you be looking after this bear at Salute 2017?
- Kharadron Overlords For Age Of Sigmar - A new faction arrives in the skies over the Mortal Realms.
- Flames Of War 4th Edition Artillery - Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!
What caught your eye this week?
Warpath Interview
Joined by Rob from Mantic Games we go through what's awesome about Warpath and the different ways you can play the game now.
The different approaches to the game should make it a great Sci-Fi world to dive into as a hobbyist.
Kickstarters
We have two great Kickstarters for you this week...
- The Drowned Earth - Check out this amazing skirmish game featuring innovative mechanics and fantastic miniatures (also watch our Let's Play!).
- Gloomhaven (2nd Printing) - This mammoth game is back on Kickstarter and might well take over your life.
Will you be pledging for these games?

If I was there I certainly wouldn’t be licking Justin’s head. He might think he’s royal or something and get ideas above his station
Happy Weekend!
It’s the Weekend!
It’s Salute weekend! Just enough time to watch this before heading off…
…And No! I will not lick Justin’s head! Never know what you might catch!
Is it just me, or is the news section suffering lip-synchitis?
I was just checking to see if anyone else was having an issue
Ben or all three of us?
Yeah I got the sync problems to.
For me it seems to start when you start taking about the new releases. And yes all 3 of you
All three Bud.
And just for that section
Just for the news section. It’s not that bad, the video is half a second behind the audio is all.
It’s a bit like a badly dubbed kung fu film.
Does anyone have a good synopsis of Guild Ball vs Blood Bowl?
Big article in the new edition of Tabletop magazine comparing the two.
@turbocooler… basically Guild Ball is individual characters (each with their own abilities and stats) playing modified Rugby/Soccer using alternating activations and generating momentum to do more powerful stuff as they get motivated each turn. Bloodbowl is much more traditional american football with set up lines and plays using mostly ‘generic’ linemen, blitzers, and quarterback style players from specific races with a set # of plays per game to score.
I’d say Guild Ball is a skirmish game where you play football, whereas Blood Bowl is definitely a board game with minis.
Guild Ball is far better!
I can’t speak for BloodBowl, but I’ve been playing Guild Ball lately and having a blast. One of the best descriptions I’ve heard is that it’s a lot like Warmachine in the way it plays – allocating resources, clever planning / timing of character abilities and lots of fun with combos!
Most importantly for me though, every character is unique with a distinct flavour and background.
Off to Salute now!
Will try to get some dwarves and have look at Hasslefree 😎
Happy weekend!
I could never get a clear picture on how Guild Ball actually plays, so I’m excited about Guild Ball week.
Everyone who goes to Salute I envy you guys and I hope you have a great day!
Excited as well. The only thing I can think of that would be negative is having to use measuring tools rather than counting hexes like in Dreadball.
So I decided to get me a copy of kick off, but jesus its hard to get. I could order it from Firestormgames but it would cost me 50 quit to send it over to Ireland. oO I didn’t had good experiences with wayland so I rather not order it from them. And there is no shop as far as I’m aware of here in Ireland where I could get it from.
One option would be to order it in a shop in Germany, send it to my parents and they can bring to me when they come over for a visit this summer. Does anyone of you guys have an idea where I can get in Ireland or where I could order it where the shipping is not as high as the game it self?
I answered my own question 😀 I looked at a place where I never though I would find it, amazon is actually selling it directly so no shipping costs as well. 😉
I was never completely sold on the original Warpath, but from what I have heard the re-vamp looks like a great improvement. I am interested once again. Well done Mantic
Getting ready to go…lots of new shiney things to look at…….too many minis too little time!
Salute yeah!!!
You should also check out the Mystics Warrior Family pack from hasslefree miniatures, if you want a sci-fi family.
And believe the hype about Gloomhaven. It’s awesome!
Happy weekend! Warpath looks really good and the guys from Mantic are always so enthusiastic!
I’ll be leaving in 30, might see you there
One of the big upgrades from Deadzone to Firefight/Warpath are the vehicles. I want to see some Plague Interceptors dropping Teratons on some unsuspecting Peacekeepers.
While I really like the concept of Gloomhaven, the lack of plastic crack keeps me from making the plunge.
Well this go my juices glowing 😉
Happy Weekend.
I´m fully drowned in the Drowned Earth KS, go give it a look.
I´m struggeling with the Guild Ball Kick Off Box, I allready have the Brewers in my collection… but this Box is awesome. Why is there no Fishermen vs. Butcher Box.
You guys, have fun at Salute, can´t wait for your coverag
I feel the same. I’ve got Mason’s, but the box looks so good!
Love the models of the forged fathers.
Great show as always! Thank you for the tip about HassleFree mini’s. I just checked them out and now have mini’s on the way! lol They have amazing stuff!
Really interested to see how well Firefight works. Guildball’s new starter set has me very curious now as well.
Hasslefree and Guildball!
Now thats the start of a nice weekend!
Just arrived at Salute now! Will have to catch up with the show later.
Very tempted t pick up the Guild Ball Kick Off set and get in to this game.
Dammit, I already have my eye on The Drowned Earth, now I gotta watch Gloomhaven?!? And double check Hasslefree more frequently? Damn!
As for the live hobby night, I might just have to get a squad of Word Bearers ready to hobby with ya!
I would be really interested to see if Mantic can make a dent in the 40K primacy. I guess it depends on GW’s way forward for 8th edition, if Mantic can fill a void like the one left by WFB.
Probably not, because the followers of the Cult of 40K won’t countenance any opposition. Which is a shame!
Weekender Time!!!
Really nice to have a weekender before I head off to salute. Thanks for all the hard work guys!
I’m looking forward to get my hands on one of those kick-off sets for Guild Ball, either thanks to you or i’ll buy one for myself. I already play and love guild ball, but just to get my masons ina correct scale is enough for me to get it. Just hope we will see Honor again in the story once she’s healed up. Looking forward to see the whole guild ball week!
Well and there are the Kharadron Overlords … i like the look of them, but i just can’T get myself to like them in the setting, i don’t know why but for my taste they’re a bit too much steam/aether punk for Warhammer. But that’s just me.
I’m really looking forward to Drwoned Earth, looks like a very interesting and fun game.
And whoever of you doesn’t have gloomhaven already should grab it this time around!
I think this is a much harder deal for Mantic to break the sci if market. 40 k had always been bigger than fantasy. Kings of war is a great game in its own right and deserves to be played. It was an added bonus that warhammer fantasy changed so dramatically. I don’t think 40K will change so much, it will still be a game based on models in skirmish formation. Rules will be streamlined but you will still be abel to use your existing armies ‘as is’.
You’re announcing Weekender prizes on hobby night live? What about those of us with things to do on a Thursday night?
Have I got that right?
I was watching the War Path segment thinking… I dont need to get into another Sci Fi game, but then you twisted my arm and made me comment!
Nice to see the Mythic Battles hub advert popping up now – think that I’ll be making use of that, thank you very much!
Ah, Guild Ball. Really loving the direction the game is going? I hope you do some Guild feature videos…maybe get some hintd about future ones? Keep up the good work guys!
My retirement plan has always been to move to Middle Earth and open up a nick nacks shop but the one thing holding me back has been a name for the store andyou ust gave it to me: “The Lord of the Rings and Things”. Thank you.
The same day as the hobby night live, Leo will also have a live show. It’s just not fair al the good stuff always comes on the same time.
Justin is a real arm twister, he is getting price offers from everybody.
Warren could use his miniature family with the Open Combat ruleset.
The Kick Off! box looks really nice. I already have a Mason’s Guild team but I can always use more for alternative paint jobs. I like the idea of the scaling game with the same minis that Warpath is using, admittedly I’d probably play the “firefight” level most. I’ve played 4 games of The Drowned Earth (1 playing both sides top learn the rules) using the beta rules, so far it has been a blast; the minis look a lot like Warmachine minis when I play it (ah 30 mm and 40 mm round lip bases how I love thee)… I love the reaction rules, and the movement. The Drowned Earth feels more active than a lot of games do.
Liking the look of the guildhall starter set
played the old Warpath and was not taken by it, so I’m looking forward to a demo
Not particularly taken by Blood Bowl so I’ll looking forward to more on Guild Ball.
Same here. Have played Blood Bowl since the 80s, with cardboard standees. Since playing Dreadball, I’ve no interest in it. I’d love to get some Guild Ball going locally as it looks even better.
I’ve always thought bloody Bowl was overrated. It was fun in its early days, but I’ll never understand the longevity, especially not with far superior offerings available these days.
Looking forward to Warpath. Just waiting for the Rulebook Collection.
Great show again !
Guild Ball starter box is packed full of great materials it seems. And I’m curious about the rules, seems pretty different from blood bowl.
The only similarities between Blood Bowl and Guild Ball are: both fantasy, both involve kicking a ball and scoring goals, and there can be fighting if you wish.
Guild Ball is a skirmish game with those elements. It’s nothing like Blood Bowl, more like Warmachine if anything (but is very much it’s own beast)
the hasselfree family are fantastic.
drowned earth, so good. I much prefer narrative focused RPG style skirmish games to straight war games these days. too much in the painting queue to jump in, but hopefully something i’ll get the chance to pick up at some stage.
gloomhaven, now were talking. it sounds absolutely amazing, i’m off to check it out.
Happy weekend! Wishing I was at Salute. 🙁
Great video guys, thanks. I always saw Warpath as something of a missed opportunity, I hope Mantic hits the mark this time.
I do like the Hasslefree range. Grabbed a few bits here and there previously and I went pretty heavy into their kickstarter last year.
Gotta watch out for them German Dwarves in particular, I am in full agreement Ben :).
I’ve been looking forward to getting a game of Warpath in with my Veer-myn, I think they just jumped up a rung or several on the painting queue.
Got both those kickstarters covered between the wife and I :).
Wohoo, Salute is coming! I love your guys coverage!
Looking forward to Guild Ball week really want to get into this game.
I’d post my tongue over from NZ but then I couldn’t lick the stamp…. 😛
Wapath and Drowned Earth are giving me the siren call, ruh roh!
Happy Weekend!
Jakevim’s Brood look and sound awesome, Kule in particular looks to be the personification of Badass Adorable
Guild Ball looks interesting the Brewers sound hilarious.
*snigger* Ben clearly has dwarfs on the brain.
Drowned Earth, pledged within the first hours 😀
Gloomhaven looks tempting, argh! not again.
Awesome Show guys!
need to paint the family ……droolling in my coffee
I backed Gloomhaven (2nd run) day 1. Can’t wait to play this.
I want that operation Heracles box! 😛
Warpath looks awesome : What makes it a must have for me is the Veer-myn. I love my Tesso And rat men in space even cooler.
SCREAM!!!!!!! Justin and Ben in 2 places at once—– DIABOLIQUES!!!!—— BURN THE WITCHES !!!!!!! ;-P
I love the Mini’s, what i really like to see are the vehicles shown on pictures before. The Tanks and Carrier Jet are not yet to buy from Mantic, i hope that will soon be chanced and hopefully alot of more Big Baddies for joining in.
Love the forge fathers.
Surprised Ben managed to keep himself as calm as h did during this Dwarf heavy show 🙂
The models and paint jobs on those Pathfinders have spiked my interest in warpath,
Looking forward to the Guild Ball week. I’m still 50/50 on whether to get into the game.
Another great vid from the BoW team
Warpath, Warpath, I am on the Warpath…
warpath starter looks like we have another winner from Ronnie & the guys at Mantic.
Watching all the Salute awesomeness and being sad for not being able to be there
Would love to check out some Warpath action.
Only about 2 more years I reckon until I can enjoy family gaming. Can’t wait.
Great show
I was following Warpath when it first started, but sort of lost track of it. Deadzone and the great terrain then got my attention but was going through a long employment dry spell. Now that the real-world is back to normal, I’m ready to dive into the new Warpath, and probably a Veer-myn starter set. There are just so many uses for space rats.
Speaking to the prize from Mantic, Firefight is awesome and Warpath looks pretty cool too. I play the Enforcers and GCPS they combo really well and I love the minis.
This Weekender is really bad for me and my wallet. Warpath and Guildball! Where do I start?
Great weekender guys, loads of really cool content.
Im very excited to see the drowned earth stuff and youve got my attention again with guild ball.
Now back to the salute coverage.
Best Kind!
Warpath is awesome fun. I backed the KS and have really enjoyed the rules/game so far
love a good starter set, great ranges both
Warpath looks great. Can’t wait for the Corporation starter set to come out. A great big army is what i would want.
Warpath seems amazing! I love the dwarves!
Warpath looks nice may have to consider not really done any table figure games
Guildball looks fantastic! Reminds me of my old Blood Bowl days, but dare I say I like these minis more!
Also, WarPath looks awesome and I would very much like to see a Let’s Play of that game.
The Guild Ball Kick off set is sitting on my shelf. Soon time to break it out.
And I’ve had, thanks to Kickstarter, my hands on the Firefight and Warpath rules for a few months. I really feel like they’ve done for sci fi what Kings of War did for Rank and File fantasy. Distill it down to its essence and then add back what’s needed to flavor individual units and armies. It’s extremely good fun.
And now that I’m done watching, this has been the best weekender in quite a while. Well done, boys.
WEEKENDER TIME…….OOOOH, I HAVE GLOWING JUICES FOR WARPATH..i really am looking forward to this game coming out….now to watch the Salute blogs cheers lads for the hard work you all do to keep us entertained and up to date on all things gaming…
Another awesome weekender! Great to hear about the new Guildball sets a it’s always something I’ve looked to get into
And always love Hasslefree, a mini for all occasions, can’t say how nice those sculpts are and how cool Hasslefree guys are too
Need to expand on my Forge fathers starter box and the warpath starter would be awesome. Players at my club can also stop running beta games with their old 40k models if I could get this.
So pumped about the arrival of Warpath proper. Model ranges look amazing. As an old squat player from back in the day my dreams came true.
I must admit Guild Ball had been on my radar for quite some time and I’ve been waiting for an excuse to get started… I’m a huge Blood Bowl fan (the game that brought me into wargaming) but I feel the mechanics are from another era.
I’m really curious about this game anf will follow the themed week with great interest. These brewers were made for me! Love ’em!
Well, I’m guessing this is finally the week I win a prize since I bought Kick off last week, No matter, it would make a great gift and incentive to have someone join the game.
As for Gloomhaven, also missed it the first time, but I’m a baker now and can’t wait to try it.
The dwarfs look really nice. I will have to pick some up and see what fun I can have with them for Kings of War.
I am looking forward to seeing Warpath. I do like both of the forces in the starter set. Just need to figure out how to convert the Enforcers into scifi samurai. The for Forge Fathers would be painted like Thor from Marvel.
Also looking forward to the Salute coverage.
I really like the guild ball stuff. It is one of the best games, i ever played.
I really need to go back and watch those videos on the Army Painter quick paint method. Any tips for improving speed and quality is always welcome. Thanks BoW for another weekend review in gaming.
Looking forward to Guild Ball week. I want to learn more about it.
Looping forward to the guild ball week. In preparation for this I’m finally getting round to assembling my butchers guild. So thanks already for the motivation ☺
The jetbikes look fun, but I have to see some game play to know, if warpath could be something for me.
Another great show guys. You know I would watch soccer if they played it like GuildBall, lot more fun than just kicking a ball around. Space dwarves and steam punk dwarves and that can only mean; kit bashing Squats for 40k.
Happy Sunday! Looking forward to seeing the guildball coverage. Hopefully you guys will do an unboxing of the other teams at some point as well.
Hasslefree always do great stuff, a wide range of miniatures over quite a few subjects, really liking the guildball starter set & looking forward to guildball week to get an idea how it plays, Already got deadzone so thinking about expanding into warpath
As for the gripping beast release, as I don’t play saga, it made me really want to make some Polish forces for bolt action. I would make him Wojtek, another ‘stranger than’ part of WW2.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wojtek_(bear)
Im so glad Warpath is coming back. I’ve been looking at trying it out.
I’ve been meaning to check out Guild Ball for a while, so I’ll be following this week with interest.
Definitely need to get warpath into my rotation.
Thanks for putting out a weekender as well as your salute coverage.
Great start to my weekend (after a long Saturday at work
Working on some volunteer work for the Community Foundation Scholarship and trying to watch the Weekender and Salute coverage, not being super productive but it is getting all finished.
I didn’t see this until after I got back from salute or gone for the lick of the head while he was talking to steamforge games, although how would I have got rid of the taste, perhaps it was for the best.
On the rest, I have warpath from the kickstarter sitting in the box so good to see that getting some love and picked up kick off and the flying frigate thing at salute, now I just need more hours in the day to get this stuff painted.
Really dug trying The Drowned Earth at Salute today 🙂
Warpath is looking interesting, but if you have been considering Gloomhaven I can fully recommend it. We have been playing quite some of it an it is as good as they say! By far the best dungeon crawl right now if you find the legacy aspect ok.
First time Ive seen the warpath stuff, looks awesome. I love the idea of the different levels that can be scaled up or down. Might be time for some new shinys 🙂
Good luck with the live event.
Spend the day at salute come back watch more and see what you missed…
It’s good that Steamforged is making plastic Guild Ball starter sets. And the set has the Brewers, my favorite team!
been into dreadball and deadzone for a while now and I am really enjoying the warpath universe.looking forward to getting hold of the rulebooks to see how it plays.
I really like Mantic’s streamlined approach to rules design. I’ve got plenty of their minis waiting to be built and painted, but I wouldn’t say no to more Forge Fathers 🙂
Wish I was at Salute today – first time I’ve missed it in a few years. Still, BoW are keeping me in the know…
played a mates warpath from kickstarter and it was very good
Would love to win a copy of Guild Ball
Played my first game of new Warpath last week, really enjoyed it and looking forward to more.
Nice to see the Northstar/Osprey plastics continuing, dwarves pretty well catered for so not quite as exciting as Gnolls/Barbarians but they look good nonetheless less.
Guildball new starter is great, even with our clubs current bloodbowl obsession I’m very tempted to pick it up and try to get a few people interested.
The good guys at steamforge sent the university wargaming group I’m chair of a couple of copies of guild ball to play with. rules look great need to try out some more games. want to get some teams to try out
My friends are just about to start a blood bowl league, maybe I should convince them to go for Guild Ball instead…
Now I have my evening program for the next week.
Going to have to get myself some Guildball. It looks fantastic.
Have fun at Salute! The Mantic kits are pretty neat. love the enforcer scouts.
great weekender guys.
I’ve always liked the look of the forgefathers.
My eyes have been opened! Well played Mantic…..well played!
Is it just me or does Brick look like Warren?
@warzan – go on big lad – showus yer big Ragnar!
I’d thank you to leave @warzan‘s ‘big Ragnar’ out of it, thank you very much!
Guild Ball looks very interesting and the starter set looks very nice.
Warpath has a lot of potential. I’m going to love getting my hands on the models I have waiting for me back at home.
Wow ..soooo many great prizes. I have Deadzone and Warpath is on the shopping list (Locked in !!)
Happy weekender guys, looks to be a good week this week.
After watching the Drowned Earth play through the dynamic movement has me really excited!
Another good show, looking forward to the xlbs and guild ball week coming up 🙂
Really looking forward to the Guild ball weekend. Been eyeing it since the KS and been meaning to grab it and start a small league in my gaming gang but I never came around to it. Maybe this could be the week to finally pull the thumb out of… yeah you know 🙂
A starter box certainly would help 😉
Warpath looks interesting. Nearly got into DeadZone just on the appearance of the Enforcer Pathfinders. Will be watching the playthroughs with interest
Both Guild Ball & Warpath really look good to me, but I always struggle with the starter boxes because I generally want different factions in the box than are offered. Makes it that much harder to take the first step and, when I have then bought starter sets like this, I often don’t fully commit to one of the factions since I want to get a different one and then the whole game typically gets left behind when something new comes along. Not sure what the solution is though, especially for smaller games & companies.
I want the warpath set, it looks awesome.
I love Guildball looking forward to the week. Warpath I am interested and learning more about this game.
Those jetbikes look amazing, would love to win some of those
Warpath looks good, Ive played the orginal and hope grown into a better game
I think I have been in every Mantic KS over the last couple of years, except this one. Having seen how they base up for the big game I now wish I had jumped on board … will definitely grab the rules and give this the once over … good excuse to expand my Enforcers and Dwarfs.
Wow Mantic are very generous! If I went to Salute I would lick Justin’s head!
Warpath looks good.
Happy weekend. Love Guild Ball.
A very nice weekender! Haven’t checked them out in quite a while. But came back to have some great background noise while doing some morning painting.
Great competitions as well! Thank you Mantic and Guild Ball. Great stuff.
Nice weekender as always. Quite exciting the guild Ball week. Warpath… not as much.
I really would like to win this starter for warpath but source book is what I’m the most interested in. Please Lady Luck be kind to me for once 🙂
Very interested to see a Warpath demo (hint, hint)…. big fan of Deadzone, and any games where my minis can be used for other games is a win
Nice Weekender, Guild Ball looks interesting, Iam now waiting for Guild Ball Week.
Them enforcer do look mighty finell.
Need to check this gloomhaven out
@warzan in looking up info on my family name I.discovered this
About the Hubbard surname
Landing of Hubba and Hingua on the Coast of Northunbria in 866
The About the Hubbard surname
Landing of Hubba and Hingua on the Coast of Northunbria in 866
The Origin of the Hubbard Name
I have Viking ancestors not only on the Holt/Abbot line, but also on the Hubbard line. The Hubbard/Hobart ancestors have been traced all the way back to John Hubba, who was born in England about 1274. According to English genealogists and historians, people with the surname of Hubba, Hubbard, and Hobart are descended from a Viking sea king named Hubba (Ubba), whose father was the Viking warrior Ragnar Lodbrog (Lodbrock). Ragnar’s ancestors can be traced all over Scandinavia, through Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Russia, and through the Visigoths to Roman Emperors. Many of them occupied thrones of one kind or another.
Posted on the wrong thread lol
Love all the models!
Jakevim’s brood looks awesome. I like the character and variety of body types in Hasslefree miniatures.
Really looking forward to Guildball week, I’m keen to see how it plays.
The Warparth stuff looks really cool – the miniatures range is very cool.
The Northstart dwarves are awesome, and those Kharadron dwarves are ace as well… but did you say… Skaven… in the sky?!? Skyven??? Where the $&@! Do I sign up?
Happy Weekender! Looking forward to Guildball week 🙂
lots of nice models on show today. im looking forward to the dwarf sprue for frosgrave, or whatever is in the pipeline!
Have fun at Salute! Warpath might get the miniatures from the Crazy Boxes to some use on my tabletop..
Nice weekender!
Warpath has certainly been added to the “must check out” list.
Soooooo lot’s of awesomeness this weekend
-Guildball, as I’ve said elsewhere I really want to get into this game (I have an alchemist team hiding somewhere) Looks great and the single piece plastic casts look like they have come out really well. Best of all its around 45 quid for the box so it represents bloody good value for money too. Hats off to the guys and I’m looking forward to the week ahead as it’s sure to get me playing the game.
-Warpath, I backed this on kickstarter so I already have lots of shinies to work through – I haven’t got round to playing yet, but from what I’ve read it looks like a solid set of rules. Miniatures are cracking, and the factions they haven’t spoken about (GCPS and Plague) are STUNNING. The GCPS rangers look like bad ass special forces HALO ODST type stuff – but the real surprise for me was the asterians, they have a really cool look and feel to them, kind of protos from star craft with more drones and remote units. Designers have done themselves proud and produced some really cool factions. This combined with the new resin in house casting that Mantic have been doing (I was lucky enough to see the quality of there new resin and it is at least as good as the other Nottingham companies kit) tells me the future is bright over at Mantic HQ!
Guildball and Firefight for a weekend of gaming with new games would be a good thing imo. My group hates it when I bring yet another game home as they know it will most likely cost them some cash in the end.
Loving Warpath, definitely getting my juices glowing!
always amazing prize giveaways
Great show. Looking forward to the Guild Ball week. Thought about it several times but never made the leap. This might be the week. Also like the idea of mass unit games like the new Warpath.
I’m really liking the Guild Ball starter set.
Definitely would like me some more minis 😀
@warzan you really need to issue quests like this before the day. It’s Sunday and now I find out we needed to lick Justins head on Saturday. No wonder he looked so nervous at the show.
Another great show guys, standing by for my Warpath 🙂
This is the Marble tutorial that I have been using for my thousand sons.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0pGumGvczc
Deadzone is my favorite sci-fi game. I own every marauder model and cannot wait to see this faction on warpath. The fluff of the marauders is the best one in my opinion. I love how the orcs are really smart and they are the ones that spread the rumors that they are stupid to trick their enemies! Fantastic stuff mantic. Well done mates!
Watched this on the way to and from Salute on the train, a great way to enjoy my weekly fix 🙂
wow that warpath stuff looks amazing
The Kharadron Overlords look really nice, and as much as I still think they’d have been better off as Squats in 40k, these are the first release that’s really tempted me to give AoS another go. At the very least I’m tempted to get the codex/armybook for them to check out the fluff on them and on AoS.
One thing that also temps me about them is that I can see possible double duty use for them as KH for AoS and as Squats for 40k if I can think of adequent counts as rules for them. In fact I can also see triple duty by mixing them in with Mantic Forgefathers for Warpath (or should that be quintuple duty considering Warpath has three levels of play?).
I’ll let you let me win this time 😉
Both Kick-Off! and Warpath look great. I am tempted to back Gloomhaven, but the price is a but steep for a game with few minis.
Happy Weekend everyone B) .
My Guildball thoughts don’t go further than ” lovely mini’s “, added to that if the game did shake my Shiny Syndrome enough, i’d be shelling out for a resin team, because my loathing of metal mini’s is at fever pitch.
I will indeed be training a bear at Salute, i have the Bear and Handler on pre-order awaiting me at Salute. It’s a great fun set and i will probably use them as scenery or make them part of the Escort Scenario.
I really like those North Star Osprey Dwarves, i must remember to pick a sprue up when i’m wandering about looking for something shiny. Speaking of Dwarves, i like the Kharadron mini’s, but AoS failed to get my attention as a system #nags.
Warpath looks nice, already got a few Deadzone models. Maybe I should take a deeper look into Warpath or at least Firefight.
New dwarves look good and the salute coverage was excellent
Looking forward to Guild Ball week.
Remember I was at the mantic open day many years ago and hot to see resin jotunns in a secret room. So glad to see warpath now realised
I have yet to jump into a big wargame but warpath looks very interesting. I like the minis and love those vehicles. I may have to take a closer look at this one.
Finally turning on to the whole Warpath thing. Dead zone v2 has completely sold me into the universe. Fantastic to see Warpath finally coming out!
That Guildball starter set is the perfect way to jump into the game.
I wish I had made the time to visit the Guildball stand at Salute. (And I remembered this evening that I missed the Spectre stand as well. doh!)
The unboxing in this video definitely sparked my interest. Preparing the box set to be divided amongst friends is a really cool premise. The silhouette of your minis in the storage box is a nice touch too. I have seen let’s play videos in the past and felt intrigued, but always had too many things on the go to find time for a new system and project. I actually printed out the free rules and stuff and the standee pieces, but never having a proper pitch to play it on slowed me down at a vital moment in my enthusiasm, then I was distracted and this paper version of the game was plunged into a folder and a draw and hasn’t seen the light of day since.
Having a cool looking board with the Kick off set is a really good touch and even the cost isn’t too much of a barrier to entry any more. The whole package looks professional and fun.
I enjoyed the let’s play for The Drowned Earth and saw them getting a tonne of attention at Salute. I hope they do really well. The quality of the models isn’t a problem and perhaps they are right to make weird and wonderful multi-race war bands, but for some reason it doesn’t really gel for me. I know that all human factions could have run the danger of looking too similar or just not as interesting. They’re probably right and I hope I find someone that backed it to give it a go once it’s all completed and delivered.
Warpath has always seemed on too big a scale for me to venture into. I never got into Dreadball or Deadzone, but I have finally dipped into Sci-Fi Mantic through Star Saga. I spoke to Ronnie Renton on The Walking Dead boot camp and I asked whether (with there being so many miniatures in the KS) whether I would have enough to play a game of Deadzone. He said that with a bit of tweaking and some artistic licence, yes. He did say he would consider this potential for crossover and see whether he could aim some products at Star Saga players to make that transition as easy as possible. (We were rather drunk at the time so I am paraphrasing a little.) The hover bike / flyers look really cool and that heavy gun that the Forge Fathers looks gorgeous, in the lethal way.
Great times for gaming and being a gamer.
That is an epic price! I’m likely to get into Deadzone first, but it’s a nice stepping stone! Enforcers are really awesome! But so if scifi dwarves!
Never really looked at guild ball but might find some gameplay tutorials of that to see how it plays. Drowned earth minis look good.
Guildball is really cool
Thanks for all the great reporting 🙂
When are you guys bringing Mastic over for a warpath/firefight week long event?
Guild Ball looks pretty cool, but man are those minis a tad expensive.
I wasn’t sure about War Path at all, but having seen this, I’m now more than keen. Can’t wait to see the tanks / flyers that go with this. Looking forward to seeing more about this game in general. Can we get a Let’s Play?
I was really impressed with Deadzone. ‘Specially the amount of stuff I got from the Kickstarter, 2nd edition DZ was a bit of a letdown. I’m hoping Firefight is the system that gets me back on the Mantic track.
Blaster was here… [& is still wainting, 2+ years now, for my beloved Orx to come fully back to Mantics sci-fi universe!]
Guild Ball is on my map for a long time
Backed the Warpath KS – and when it arrived wasn’t that sure about it. Then I played it with a friend and I’m quite taken (don’t really like 28mm ‘Mass Battle’ – usually use smaller scale models, 15/18mm or smaller (10/12mm are quite effective for Fantasy/Historical, not so much for SF).
Might even build a reasonably sized (2000 pts) force – currently looking a ‘proxy’ for my Mars Attacks – plague might be a good fit, or GCPS.
That Guildball starter looks cool…
The guildball stare box looks really nice, it is great that they are coloured plastics so you can play straight out of the box and easily distinguish teams.
*starter*
Warpath looks really intersting – but it might be a bad timing for the release with the new 40k infront of us.
I backed the Star Saga KS really like the look of the Warpath universe.
You guys are crazy, catching up this bundle of warpath goddies…
Go Forgefathers…
Good Weekender and count me in! 🙂
I like the way where Steamforged is going…
Will be watching later, along with the Salute blog. But getting the necessary comment in for a chance to win before I forget.
Am I the only one who starts the weekender looking at the tags? I’m, always going: Oh! so there’s something about Gloomhaven and AoS and Guild Ball. Awesome! 🙂
Both Guild Ball and Warpath has me really intrigued. I need to find room and money to add those to my growing collection.
I have to say, that Warpath interview has me much more excited than that “Trust us, we are the New Games Workshop^^TM” FAQ for the new 40k Edition from this week. And having played both Age of Sigmar and Kings of War, I think I will be trying Warpath with a much higher probability than new new 40k (been out of GW Games nearly completly for years now).
this looks fun
Great episode as usual. Backer and proud of it. Keep the great job boys (and girls)!
Oh yeah! Love those, Warpath and Crates
While Mantic isn’t for me, I’ll gladly play guild ball anytime.
Cant wait for warpath
Was out all weekend and only got to watch this on Monday, glad to hear the contest will extend. The guild ball games is very interesting, but no one has brought it into the game store to try out yet. Always been a fan of warpath, hope mantic can continue with building the worlds and races even more.
Got to play Drowned Earth at Salute was very enjoyable… I am so close to backing but I have so many KS on the go right now.
Sebastian at Eastern Empire made some tiles for Warhammer Quest and the family figures from Hasslefree.
the first game-story was a boy-knight who explored the basements beneath the castle with his pals and Great Dane – Hamlet 🙂

Dude! you need a dog miniature for your family adventure…

Those dwarf figures are awesome – the current miniatures from most companies are like blocks. I miss the old 80s style figures
Guild ball looks unique. More history on Warpath universe is cool.
I may not need a mass battle game, but I wouldnt say no to a pile of forge fathers!
I’m defo thinking of starting a Veer-myn army, getting more drawn in every day…
Lots of warpath goodness going on now, I’m making a start on my veermyn. Some reinforcements to make a couple more factions to play with friends would be very handy.
Not a huge fan of sports board games, if I want to play sports, I will go outside and play them. With that said, I love the guild ball minis and want them just to have to maybe use in other games. Wolsung or Caravale with guild ball minis anyone?
Another great show. Really like the look of the Guild Ball figures. Also really want that Warpath two player starter.
To many awesome games and to little money… 🙂
I can’t help but think with the new Warhammer on the way streamlined AoS style, there will potentially be a lot of interest from the rage quitters. Does ‘t hurt the models look clean and crisp and also has space Dwarves. Looking forward to knowing more on this and scooting around the Mantic site found the free ‘Ghosts of the Past ebook from the Kickstarter which ois worth a look if you want to know more before launch day!
I really like the look of Gloomhaven. Nice one to mantic for giving away loads of stuff. Deadzone is a great game. I have a squad of enforcers which would be a good starting point for an army.
warpath looking fantastic ! cant wait to get my hands on it !
This was lovely!
Guild ball looks like it could be a lot of fun. Looking forward to the week and seeing more of it.
I was part of the warpath Kickstarter, and while my stuff has arrived for it, I am still working on assembly. One of these days I will get a game in.
Guild Ball looks amazing. Did the ever announce the winners for the Drowned Earth minis?
That Kick Off starter set looks very slick – I’m particularly impressed with the quality of the game board, which seems to be up there with similar offerings from FFG albeit it nicer art 🙂
I very much agree on the GB-illustrations. They’re like the game’s trade mark to distiguish it within the industry and above that they do bear much more value artistically than the established standards. (And I do mean art as in fine art, not craftsmanship.)
Dang, I totally did not see the Guild Ball hints for this episode. How did I miss that? Good thing GB week started right after this.
Warpath, at last! 🙂
Thanks for the show!
Nice episode chaps, Guild Ball looks very intriguing. 🙂
Pretty prizes!
This kickoff set for Guildball is certainly a great looking starter set. They have put a lot of thought into it and the pre-colored minis with all the tokens will make it so easy to get going. What I really like about this discussion is the insight into the “players” characters and I can’t wait for the rest of the discussions on this game. I think this week coming is going to get me into Guildball, I just want to check with my bank if I have permission to watch this…..LOL
Warpath looks interesting
Man, i thought i could resist GB…..
This was a great show!
Just received my copy of kick off can’t wait to play looks like a great game
I think I will go to the Ben side of life with Warpath and go for the “space” dwarves. I quite like the difference in their approach to the world of Warpath that it is based on economy rather than a back story of constant clashing because of different factions just facing off. Could be interesting to look at a larger space themed game, I also like that it relates to Deadzone and Dreadball in world it is set in.
Good show guys. Warpath is looking good.
Fun stuff!
Happy Weekend! 🙂
I suspect that Warpath will struggle more than Kings of War to make a mark… Which is a pitty because I’m really quite intrigued by what I see.
I think playing Epic back in the day got me hooked on bases of troops rather than individuals, and although it was a different scale to Warpath, I still like the idea.
I’d like to see a really big game of Warpath being played because I suspect that’s where the game will shine.
Also, I don’t know how I’ve managed to miss Guildball all this time. I’m so busy at the moment so it looks like I’ll have to try to catch up on Guildball Week another time. it looks very interesting.
Happy weekend!
I am definitely considering Guild Balls Kick Off now…
Loved Beasts of War from the Mythic Battles videos, had no idea you guys had this, now I have a backlog to watch.
Thanks to my hectic call schedule, I’m only now sitting down to watch guildball week. Bring it on!
The Weekender rox!
Really liked the warpath minis. Think I have to look into the game
Guild ball looks great. Really interested to see how WarPath plays; hopefully a Let’s Play soon…
