Happy Weekender everyone!
Three Ben’s, can we take that much Ben goodness? Let’s find out…….
It’s inevitable that there will be fun…inevitable I tell you!
hmmmmm, ben to the power 3 is ben cubed, d6 are cubes, therefore in this weekender everything is alignment for the fabled b6 to be brought into existance…
Now I’m on a quest to find a custom dice maker to construct the ‘Fabled’ B6 cube! Three sides will have each of the Bens smiling and three sides will have each of the Bens frowning.
Now to construct an entire game around that cube!
Lol this needs to happen possibly play with 3 dice with a lookup table, you don’t want to know what happens if you roll 3 smiling sexy Ben’s…
3 smiling big Ben’s would probably result in wikipedia imploding from a catastrophic loss of trivia
3 frowning big Ben’s is this
AAAGH!! Ended up missing first again! 😉 😛 😉
But it couldn’t be to a nicer Beast.
HAPPY WEEKEND!!!!
Got a copy of Dave Taylor’s book. An absolutely glorious book.
Love when the Ben’s are in the studio. Big Ben brings the Chaos we love. And Sexy Ben brings the love.
The Sinister secret of Saltmarsh was one of the best modules for D&D ever. Lovely seeing it adapted for 5th ed with all the rules for boats, water combat and adventures under the sea.
Yeah I think it’s a great idea to take a lot of those old adventures and bring them back to the fore. It means that there’s something familiar for old hands but a new classic to explore for others.
I suspect a few other old classics will come back. They revisited Keep on the Borderlands and Against the Slavers in 3rd and Temple of Elemental Evil in 3rd and 5th, and Tomb of Annihilation, Dungeon of the Mad Mage (Undermountain), Stuff from Against the giants in Yawning Portal etc. I really want the Keep on the Borderlands, The Slavers, Against the Giants, Isle of Dread and those real classic modules made 5th Ed playable.
I also would love to see them redo the historical campaign guides again but broken up into Classical, Dark Ages, Medieval and Renaissance periods, but with more emphasis on the fantasy/mythological parts but as part of the real world. Like the way Vikings were convinced the supernatural hid in the corners of your eyes, the Celts believed the Fey disguised themselves as humans and animals, the Romans saw the signs of the gods in what happened around them etc.
Happy Weekend with Ben Power.
Wish we could get a real update on Legend of the Fabled Realms
I believe one is on the cards.
I’ll be looking out for that then.As i missed the KS ( my wallet was committed elsewhere at the time ) and i have been patiently waiting for any retail news for Fabled Realms to appear and have been a little worried about how quiet it’s been regarding FR.
Great show this weekend. Always enjoy seeing the folks from 4ground!
It’s the Weekend!
Glad to see some new content that isn’t GW related this week guys. Love your show and will watch when I get home tonight. The new Mythic Games upcoming releases look very interesting, especially HEL. Cheers
It does sound interesting for sure – I will be interested to see if they can engage the players narratively. Solomon Kane had problems with perception so I’m keen to know more about the mechanics of Hel.
Happy weekend! Thanks for the fun show.
Sunny Saturday! Really lose and funny episode today. Thanks Ben,Ben,Gerry, Justin oh and the other one lol.
Looking forward for the Terrain book
Happy Weekender, always a part of a good Saturday morning. Can’t believe I totally missed the Armies & Legions & Hordes Kickstarter. Would definitely give it a good read given the chance.
Well worth checking out – it’s a good read and John got involved so it must be epic 😉
Yes, when I read that part penned by our very own John, I heard the words in John’s own voice!
It is a wonderful book and the sleeve that encases the book was a very nice touch as well.
Loved Saltmarsh – seems like an awful long time ago
Time to relive those years then!
Awesome weekender show again guys. Great to see Ben and Cad join you, I really dont mind some of the tangents that Ben goes off on!
Seeing them on today I did hope to hear an update on the status of The Fabled Realms. I’ve just received my goblins and its got me wanting the rest! I’m sure it’ll be soon that we get some news.
I love the look of the new Mythic game, those sculpts look absolutely amazing and what I have heard so far is really promising.
As mentioned on a previous comment there may be updates soon but we’ll see. I know the guys are working hard.
Yes, I saw after I posted, Thanks Ben. I’d rather them spend the time getting things right, I know how much the guys at 4ground care about their products.
Happy saturday peeps
Ha!! The 4Ground Roman Fort is still on the table then..yay!! So cool I’m no longer bottom of the list. I think..
Pavlov’s House would be a real corker as well tho, I have to say..??
And I got a few other suggestions for Ben and Cad I’m desperate to share. Darn..a trip across to the 4G lair seems inevitable ?
I think you need to get in there and go Roman on them chap – get them building this fort!
we were talking about what would make a great days gaming at a club or event. For example Isandlwana 10mm, Rorke’s Drift, space hulk style evacuation of the hospital and a chase/race game to get the colours free. From that we started asking what other campaigns could you pull multiple unique games from and I mentioned Pavlov’s House and Ben said google this https://www.thingsfromthebasement.com/store/p350/Pavlov%27s_House_-_Complete_Kit.html it’s been a weird week, everything Ben and I discussed appeared again shortly after o.O
Ĺove the new cathedral design, very nice.
Great, love that Forest Goblin kickstarter!
It is pretty swanky. After looking at the options some more it does come with a lot of plastic to get stuck into. Very good for someone wanting a quick warband for Warlords Of Erehwon.
Yep, definitely. I’m taking the option to swap the round bases to square and having either a smaller sub-faction WFB army with added Spider Riders and Arachnarok, or add them into my larger existing Orcs and Goblin force for XI Age / 8th edition. Though I might try them out with a modded Frostgrave ruleset as well at the other end of the spectrum.
Found myself hovering over Dave Taylor’s Kickstarter a few times during the campaign. It would make an excellent gift for my wife who I want to paint all my minis.
Morning all. Going to have to catch this one later, I’m off to a 40K APOC game today. Fielding 4000 points (about half of my collection) of my Death Korps of Krieg Army (The 8th Krieg Grenadier Assault Regiment) as one of 8 players in the game.
Been years since they took the field and at least two since I played any 40K. Purge the Xenos scum!
2nd best thing Ronnie did after Mantic 🙂
Death Korps took the day, winning on turn 4.
Make love not krieg
It’s Ben again, hurrah
I’m excited to see what Battle Systems comes up with for those buildings. Those guys produce some amazing stuff!
That book looks mightily interesting… (and would probably help me with some of the major projects I’m considering)
Armies & Legions & Hordes looks like my kind of a book. I have a ton of ideas and minis but they are all in sort of a limbo. Strated but not yet completed 🙂
Once again great show guys. Always good to here from the fellows at 4Ground.
“Armies, Legions & Hordes” looks like a book that should be added to the collection of any hobbyist being overwhelmed by their painting backlog. And for those of us who also want a nice helping of inspiration. I guess that applies to me. The variety of periods, scales and manufacturers makes it look exceptionally valuable. But I do have to admit I’m anxious to see Dave’s interpretation of Dan Abnett’s Ghosts characters, friends and foes, and stalk tanks.
Happy weekender folk’s
The church ruins look fabulous will a range of widows be coming out to change environments.
One piece of terrain people may love if they remember Lord of midnight was the Citadel’s depending on the figures could be a fort upto a huge fortress on the table.
this is the citadel from Lords of Midnight.
&exph=846&expw=1480&q=lords+of+midnight&simid=608010090380789314&selectedIndex=211&ajaxhist=0
I bought the first two boxes of Shadows of Brimstone at retail (so got it before a lot of KS backers) and it’s not a bad game (but I prefer Flying Frog’s Fortune and Glory)… however…
The random map can be a problem if you don’t have room for a big gaming table, as it can grow out of control and unpredictably, as even if you remove the explored areas, you have to slide the map about the table…
And you need a good few hours to play it… so if game time is limited you may have to flee the mine…
But most importantly, stats change a lot in a campaign, so I recommend you scan the character sheets, erase the numbers with a graphics package and reprint them so you can alter the stats.
Completely agree. The minis and components are nice (although missing some basics like tokens to track money), but I found the actual game play to be a little dull. I much prefer Fortune and Glory or even A Touch of Evil.
I bought some cheap poker chips for Shadows. Printed stickers to track XP and put them on some other poker chips to keep track of XP during sessions.
Touch of Evil is great fun. Took me a while to get hold of everything (except the webstore store only stuff, far too expensive for UK shipping) for that, especially the Something Wicked box.
Pity the double sided monster tokens are so fiddly though, hard to find the right thing when you need it. I should really make some better monster tokens for that game and blow the cobwebs off it. Apparently there should have been a 10 year deluxe edition last year, but it was delayed.
Fortune and Glory had a similar problem with releases, shipping the webstore exclusives was too pricy for my liking. Last I heard there were two more releases due, but Flying Frog been quiet for a while.
I suspect their focus is the big seller, Shadows of Brimstone, but if I had to sell an FF game it would be Shadows, as Fortune and Glory and A Touch of Evil so much better.
Brand new member!
So enjoyable to watch!
Thanks for the info!
I’m excited to be here…
Welcome to the madness that is BoW / OTT.I really love this site and what the guys do here, still not been brave enough to say so if i spot them at a place like Salute though….Even at my age i get shy around my ” hobby heroes “,you think i’d have grown out of that…
Next time your there you will have to grab us and introduce us to your hobby heroes 😉
You do yourself a disservice sir.BoW / OTT has had me in stitches laughing during weekenders / XLBS shows and Vlogs, gawking in awe and jealousy as you play cracking games before us plebs own them and un-boxing loads of lovely extra’s for said games. Then there’s Hobby Lab,a few of which i have successfully copied techniques for and a couple i am not yet brave enough to try.
Anyway, enough of this before i embarrass myself with my fanboy musing,i must be away and begin yet another ascent up my Pile of Shame, the Restic Mount Everest that is my miniature building / painting backlog.
Welcome aboard Josh!
I know you, you’re that pilot fella 😉
Glad to have you onboard, have a poke around at the Bolt Action stuff, ask questions, make friends 😀
Happy weekend, all.
I am quite excited about Terrain Crate2. I have been having the best time painting up the first one and at least half of this new one would fit wonderfully with my Wolsung terrain so that’s double incentive. Servant’s Quarters and Cozy Cottage look custom made for the interiors of MicroArts’ buildings.
Sigh, yet another 4Ground Samurai building I so want in my collection. Absolutely beautiful work, guys. You keep raising the bar making us want even more.
Happy Saturday all!!
Very enjoyable show with a lot to look at from the various interviews. Love the Battle Systems stuff and especially the whole ethos of creating beautiful scenery that can be transported and stored in an easy and efficient manner.
Great banter guys and i’m looking forward to tomorrows XLBS 🙂
@avernos you scared the crap out of me. I was watching and sanding the landing pad and was in the zone, watching another awesome weekender and all I hear is SOAP DODGER! I thought I was in Ring https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=PcTq-SlUfX4 I think this may happen one day. Then I lookup and see you what only be described as peacocking while saying my name! Very funny / scary stuff. Possibly my next project will be more commercial, I still don’t think people want a million piece model kit to put together for sceanery. But yes I hear you, you want my toys!
that’s what I aim for. Also your stuff is awesome. That is all
Loved the show Guy’s.
I would love to see Battle Systems tackle some Japanese style buildings, or an Indiana Jones type jungle-encrusted temple. It’s a bit of a long shot, but it would be interesting to see if they could come up with a way to do wilderness terrain like trees and hills.
No GW stories, but Ben still managed to sneak in a ‘Blood Angel’ reference during the Thud and Blunder segment. Shame on him!
It was probably a result of some early indoctrination that Ben received when visiting GW stores
Happy saturday….brilliant show lads, complete blast love it when the foreground boys are on nice little slip of NO SURRENDER in there which no doubt not everybody got. But am excited to hear about the book collusion with Mel THE terrain tutor that i will be backing.
I almost wet myself I explained it afterwards and I thought Cad was going to freak out in a panic ?
Thanks to all for the show. And yes, one could always need motivation so a copy of A&L&H would be fantastic! See you tomorrow.
Loved the microscale 4ground terrain so much, that a bought a set based on the bit on this show
“Reset the clock!” – that’s unfair, I didn’t hear anyone mention Squats!
?
I’ve got an idea to pitch to 4Ground – Space Egyptians! Best to do it before the Roman for. ?
Don’t follow Battle Systems, so don’t know if they already do this, but if their fantasy range is ‘Eurocentric’ in style how about expanding it into other styles, eg Far East, Mesoameric, Ancient Egyptians, etc.
Shadows&Brimstone – anyone else mishear ‘team hero’ as ‘teen hero’ at first? ?
oh space egyptians sound fantastic, I’m sure Andy wouldn’t mind a bit of a delay 😉
Just remember to have the DustBuster on hand. ?
Hi,
Is there any way of buying digital edition of A&L&H book? It was possible during Kickstarter but can’t find it anywhere in retail now.
@Battle Systems. For fantasy ideas, I often think about Roman basilica type of building which can easily be repurposed between administrative/public building (headquarters of a guild?), temple or even market and was wide spread across medieval cities. When it comes to smaller pieces think about great scales that were often built on main squares of the cities to allow merchants take official weights of traded goods.
And when we’re at it, I’d love to see bigger pictures of the terrains in stock on Battle System’s website. I wanted to buy their stuff at least three, maybe four times now but was always repulsed by the pictures which don’t allow to actually asses quantity off terrain in the box.
Hi Shingen, you can purchase the PDF version of ALH from ironheartartisans.com
I am currently working to make the interactive ePub version available soon too.
Thanks man,
I’ve automatically directed myself to European retailer and that brought up my confusion
To Chad and Ben, now that the 3d printers are in a quiet mode perhaps you could give us buildings from both worlds. Imagine windows with ceils gutter and downpipes, doors that swing, and that is only the start…
I need this book as I generally paint 1.5 armies a year plus some odd bits. I am already in for the Mantic terrain and looking out for the Mythic Brawl game.
I am very much looking forward to my Core Space pledge arriving so I can see the Battle Systems stuff first hand at last!
I’d like Battle Systems to go small scale – from memory they are purely 28/32/heroic scale.
In my head with no design experience or knowledge it seems if you have a design it should be scaleable, so the limit is materials and demand.
Might also need a cull of some scatter as inside buildings (typically) will not normally be a concern
Their terrain kits are absolutely awesome. Curious what is in the book. Ideas on how to handle hobby projects sounds pretty good.
I wish the Hill brothers and everyone at Flying Frog productions all the best on this Kickstarter =)
I remember a little table at Historicon or Cold Wars where they told people about the coming of that book…
I’m really wanting to add terrain for Fallout Wasteland Warfare. I’ve got some stuff from both Battle Systems and 4Ground. Both are great but don’t really match with each other.
Whichever company produces something that will fill a table with Fallout goodness will get a large slug of my cash!!
Umm @davetaylor what about here in Oz? Who do we get it through in Australia my good man?
Hi rayzryr
I think the Warlord chaps had sent some to Mighty Ape (I saw a page for it on their webstore) but I have to follow up on that. Alternatively, if your local store orders from Warlord at all, that’s the next best bet for a physical copy.
Cheers mate!
I hadn’t seen your reply. A quick search on Mighty Ape says that sure enough, they have 5 copies left.
4 copies left now!
The book looks amazing. I backed it initially on KS but unfortunately had to pull my pledge. The next collaboration with Mel sounds interesting too
Those forest goblins look awesome!
Great show
All this talk of Norwegian wooden churches I need to dig out the old Mayhem albums later.
That sort of thing yes. The one just outside Bergen they were able to rebuild because they’d bought it from another town and kept the instructions
That was nice whatever that was!
But no Fabled Realms update?
@gerry – Knights of Dice scenery – absolutely! Their Chinatown series of buildings look awesome. Please 4Ground, make a deal with Knights of Dice and get the European license to laser cut and print their buildings. As Gerry noted too – shipping heavy blocks of MDF all the way around the world makes no sense.
The Dave Taylor “project management for painting miniatures” book sounds really interesting. I thought it was just a kind of GW ‘Eavy Metal or Golden Demon showcase-style book. Whilst these kind of painting showcases are nice to look at, they do leave me kind of wondering why I bother at all – with my mediocre painting ability and collection of black-basecoated models. My Black Templars, Dark Angels, Grey Knights and Zombie hordes remain collecting dust for over 10-years now, with almost zero progress to report…
darn tootin’
Dave’s book isn’t a showcase or a ‘eavy metal style mini porn book. But rather it talks about how to paint your armies, techniques to apply to approaching a big workload and how to plan and carry out the work. John actually talked about inspiration with his Stone Templar Marines in it, although they are technically walking tanks 🙂
Oh, and I wonder which model @johnlyons will be painting in the Dave Taylor book, WW2 tanks would be too easy? Perhaps he will be offering advice on how to survive the trauma of building and painting his personal nightmare-nemesis model: the Ork Stompa?
Ben on the screen – wins this week’s Weekender Award / Medal for… Extreme Patience Beyond the Call of Duty. The 4Ground Ben, Gerry and Justin just get so carried away, it leaves poor Ben on the screen and Cad hardly getting in a word in edgeways.
@brennon – can you see actually the guys in the studio? Or do you have only audio?
audio only, lucky devil
Always good to see Colin from Battle Systems. I was hoping they would be expanding the Urban Apocalypse range with an American hospital, a High School, a shopping mall, a nightmare Silent Hlll style fairground…
Need this book when is it or is it coming to amazon!
Love the look of Dave’s book and really can’t wait to see what Mel can come up with in his new one – been following that avidly on his channel.
My God a lot in the show today. Looking forward to Sunday’s show.
I really like Dave’s book would like to upgrade from digital to hard copy.
And then i really like Shadows of Brimestone. It really thematic and has a nice campaign system, but u need to work out a own story to connect the adventures.
Im interested in what new comes from Battlesystems. I just got my first order from them and I am happy. Im really tempted by terrain crate as well as the last one was really good.
Now I just need the Armies & Legions & Hordes book to get started to paint everything in my backlog
The Forest Goblins look really nice. I would have a look at them but I have just give Mythic Games all my wages this month for the late pledge of Reichbusters. The Terrain Crate looks amazing as well. Keeping fingers crossed these will be available after the KS campaign. Great show guys. 🙂
Another cracking show guys.
Would love to see some stuff that would be suitable for Burrows and Badgers in the new fantasy Kickstarter terrain campaign, but could also be used for Frostgrave and maybe SAGA
Happy weekend!
4Ground peeps in da house!
Thanks for the LOLs guys, i’ll try to catch up on the XLBS later this week (my work weekend…).
Dave Taylor is one of the nicest guys in the industry. I will be picking up his book anyway, but jammy dancing with his book is even better. Great show team.
Shadows Of Brimstone Adventures is Heroscape. That old and sadly dead game that had the big hex map tiles that was fun… Those many years ago. This might be something to look in to when they come out.
So can’t wait for more from Battlesystems.
Looking for books on how to improve my painting. I will have to check this book one day.
ah the weekender, time to relax and enjoy grumpy old men waffling
Would have liked a bit of a focus on fabled realms update, but good to see the 4ground guys and that book looks amazing, like the idea of the terrain essentials idea to.
I’ll need to get a hold of a copy of this. I have over 20,000 points of GW alone still to build and paint. God knows how much for other systems.
Awesome stuff!
Bit late to the discussion but it is great to see the 4Ground guys on the show, always means we’re in for a good show. Don’t know how I managed to miss the Dave Taylor kickstarter when it happened but the book looks great, congrats to everyone involved.
Missed out on the book when it was on KS, glad to hear it’s coming to retail.
I actually got to spend a dinner st Adepticon with Dave Taylor and he was such a nice and down to earth guy! It’s great when you meet such a luminary and they are good guys in real life! Buy his book!!
I somehow missed the Kickstarter so would love to get my hands on Dave’s book
