Recruit A Gamer Month!
February is the month where we like to see folks widen the scope of the hobby to include more of your friends. So, with that in mind, we're asking you to tell us who you're going to try and recruit as a gamer and how you'd do it, whatever area of the tabletop world you're interested in.
SITREP Ops Centre Episode One
Jim (Oriskany) has been working away on a new project for the SITREP Podcast. The first episode of his Ops Centre has gone live this weekend focusing in on The Sinai War Of 1956.
Make sure to give it a listen and a watch if you're interested in modern warfare on the tabletop and want an in-depth exploration of the topic!

Best first 17 minutes of any Weekender I have ever seen. And Im going to get my future Son in law to play his first Bolt Action game this weekend.I back Reich Busters as soon as it came out, roll on November and delivery. It looks so cool and the possibilitys as to where this game could go are never ending.
Aughh, you beat me to it, @higgy ! 🙂
Happy Weekend, everyone!
We have a live game of Darkstar: Tactical Starship Combat on the web later today between two community members (damon and rasmus – 18:00 GMT) if anyone is interested in checking it out. Just ping me a PM and I will send you the link to the web conference. Japanese and British ground troops are locked in combat beneath the glacial ice of a frontier world about 35 light-years deep into the Libra constellation, now both sides are trying to get troop ships to the planet, escorted by a cruiser battlegroup. The British have been winning a lot of battles recently, can the Japanese break the winning streak?
And if you’re so inclined, please take a moment to check out the first episode of the “Ops Center,” a new video series we’re rolling out for the Sitrep channel (modern-era wargaming media), hosted here on OnTableTop. 😀 In this episode, we take a look at wargaming in the 1956 Sinai War fought between Egypt and Israel.

Thanks very much for the mention @warzan and @brennon!
Enjoy your weekend, everyone! Stay warm!
Awesome, can’t wait for Reich busters. I have already gotten one into boardgaming through the game Nemesis, it’s my partner’s first step and from there I’ve convinced her to get into painting and moving forward. Just need more space for a painting set up. It’s my partner, myself and our 2yo daughter in a small 2 bedroom flat. So anything prepainted is awesome atm, until I can afford a larger place. (Just got to add the shake of the head at Warrens “Riding Termagaunts” joke at 14:35 is great…no one else seemed to cotton on, Warren ya dirty boy, you just had to keep the joke going though, haha).
Munchkin Dungeon looks real interesting.
For the sanguinius ( I have no idea how to spell it) person do you think the FW sculptor was rushed for time and searched the workshop and found a set of cavalry man’s legs and stuck them on
Earlier FW put up a pic of him on his limited edition scenic base and the pose makes more sense there as it has a large daemon grappling with his legs as he makes a killing thrust.
Daftly the base is limited edition so most of the time the pose isn’t going to make much sense.
Happy Weekender!
SITREP Ops Centre Episode One was great and well done!
Reichbusters reminds me so much of Dust and Tanhauser the boardgame mixed together. Having both of the previous I don’t know if I can justify the new game. Maybe if I can get the minis separately.
The ‘Sentinel Comics: The Roleplaying Game’ does have my attention. I’m looking into that one a bit more.
Recruit A Gamer Month! It’s a great challenge but one very difficult for me. I live in a small town, in Midwest America, were most folks believe the only way for an adult to have a good time is to go drinking on the weekends. But I suppose I could try making up a flyer to post in the public library to see if anyone was interested in playing tabletop minis games. The library has many rooms that can be booked for meetings and discussions and gaming would fit into that I think. You know I might give that a try!
Thanks very much, @templar007 .
I should mention that the Sitrep team is:
Gianna, myself, Ralph ( @grimwolfuk ) and Chris .
Okay i will be one hundred percent honest. I did not need to see these Reich Buster minis… i just cant aford another game in my life right now, and noe i want this….thanks guys.
That’s the problem with this site … it makes you want stuff you didn’t know you wanted 😉
I think there isn’t a single beastie who isn’t addicted to the plastic/metal/resin crack they show.
Happy weekend!
I’ll be converting my brother this month. He is still a bit of an athlete and former tank commander. Two weeks ago I ran him through his first D&D game. This month I’m going to get him to play Star Wars Legion.
Happy Weekend…
As a german I would be happy If Sarge comes over here again and save us from the evil Vril…
Hmm.. like I threw out before a good idea for the Snag-a-normie month the idea regarding sports could work. As Warren and Lloyd pointed out there is interest in ‘football’ that they could use. I’ll say Guild Ball is an excellent idea as it is fast paced and easily understood for dice mechanics.
Thinking about laughingboy’s minotaur and seeing how well it came out I might just sneak mine along and say ‘Yeah I painted one too’ before shuffling on
Star Wars games. Star Wars games are single handedly responsible for me having a gaming group at all. I used to sit in my hobby corner and paint, read and theorycraft but wasn’t sociable enough to go and find a gaming group. However a box of X-Wing one Christmas got me, my brother and our dad playing regularly and my brother’s mate joined in after a while too. Now we regularly play X-Wing, Legion and occasionally Imperial Assault. And my brother has rediscovered 40k and we now also play Fallout Wasteland Warfare.
A tip would be to find an IP the other person likes and start there.
“This is what I think they were going for”
“Well they failed”
Dammit @avernos you spilled my drink with that one.
His legs look like anyone repelling/falling/flying in an 80’s action movie where they had to hide the harness in the crotch area and it made their legs go all weird.
A Friend of mine is coming over tomorrow maybe I can tempt him into a quick game of something. Getting new people into a game is just another reason to collect multiple sides for every game.
I like that in the sneak peak of tomorrow it looks like Justin is trying to explain something very convoluted to poor Warren.
in my defense I am a grumpy old bugger.
I went in for Reichbusters and the more I see, the happier I am that I did. I have already started getting my daughter into games, had to start her easy with uno and mousetrap (she is 5 though) but she keeps asking now to play with the blood rage and rising sun miniatures I’m painting so give it another 8-10 years I may be able to play her! ? In all seriousness though it has sparked a little interest in my wife so she is actively asking what other games we can do together. 10 years of marriage and she now quotes star wars without realising it so I may now be turning her into a gamer as well, turns out all you need is a 5 year old, who knew!
It’s the Weekend!
It’s been the week from hell… take me somewhere… anywhere!
Just looking at the Zealot site… They’ve got a brilliant sleeping Minotaur – perfect for a dungeon crawler scenario which if you wake it while creeping past turns into the beserk model you previewed! I’m leaving Leroy Warzan at home for that run…
Eric Lang’s involvement SHOULD be a seal of quality on a game. With copies of CMON’s HATE KS landing elsewhere in the world there have been comments about rules quality; not something I’d associate with Eric Lang but he can’t be brilliant at everything can he?
Tobe honest I’ve had to start to be really disciplined about KSs.
First level of discipline – is this a game I will actually get to play multiple times and is it good value?
Second level of discipline – if I do get to play it will we ever get beyond the core game?
I’ve got far too many games where I went all in or got tempted to grab a few expansions which in hindsight have berely been out of the box. Exceptions to this have been KD:M and MB:P. In both cases I’ve not gone mad up front, but once I’ve got into it there’s been an opportunity to add more through retail or expansion/1.5 KSs.
Reichbusters I’m being good for now and just PM’d the core pledge, but if all goes well and I get a group into it hopefully the tease of a new season will give me the opportunity to add later; either the new season or maybe some reprints.
On that note, anyone interested in Myth or Conan in the UK I have a pile of boxes (some still shrink-wrapped) that I could do with offloading.
Good morning all. So nice to waken up to another scintillating discussion with Leo and Az (I am all-in on Reichbusters). The sneak peek of Season 2 artwork is most appealing and has a bit of the Iron Sky vibe going on too.
The painted Sarge is fantastic, as are all the other pieces Seb worked on. Hurry up and paint Sally!
Love the show guys.
I’d get a new gamer into the hobby by playing either the Grimoire Quest card game or Everdell. Both from last year, and both brilliant games.
That sarge model is insanely good and might have to check out the pledge manager
Till tomorrow morning guys…
Well, I am a Blood Angel player, but yeah from that picture Sanguinius looks.. off.
For my Recruiting scheme, I’m going to try to get a friend of mines Kid into Kill Team, I have 2 kill teams so I can just let him borrow one of them, and my friend is interested as well so maybe 2 new gamers. Board gamers now hopefully Mini players soon.
So nice to see AZ again! His enthusiasm for Reich Busters is truly infectious. I’m gonna head over and watch the Let’s Play now..
And maybe to the Pledge Manager. Doh..I’m so easily seduced by you guys ?
Btw, Seb’s paint jobs are out of this world ?
Looking forward to Reichbusters.
Great show, as usual! A minor ‘anal’ moment though, the constant description of ‘panzerfaust’ for Hans’ ‘weapon!’ It is a panzerschreck!!!
Surely Ben is clearly in his dwarven treasurehold?
?
Justin can’t use chains and whips? So that’s anything Slaanesh out then. ?
@warzan – for your brother-in-law what about BloodBowl, Guildball, etc? If needs be reskin it to remove the fantasy aspects and use Sebuteo minis.
Recruit a gamer – I’m in the same boat as Gerry, I don’t know anyone that’d be into gaming that isn’t already.
I think Warren was aiming for a different definition of ‘riding’ when he was on about riding gaunts. @warzan if you want to know about Genestealer implantation go watch a little flick called ‘Alien’ to get a general gist.
Reichbusters – anyone know how well the minis scale against 40k minis? Think they’d be amazing to use in things like Inq28 or one of the 40k RPGs. ?
@dignity – if you want to be extra sure the mini will reach the winner unscathed, maybe you should get Sam to hand deliver it; Sam’s only small so it shouldn’t cost more to send him freight than shipping the mini on its own. ?
Ideas for where to take Reichbusters – how about adding a not-Captain America and a not-Indiana Jones to the heroes? ;). The latter could open the setting up to adding more mystic stuff like the Ark, the Spear of Destiny, etc and those wielding them. Mystic stuff could also add options for introducing fresh heroes by having psychics/mystics/magic-users/etc to the Allies. 😉
Expanding on the Reichbusters ideas I gave: obviously there’s a copyright issue with using photocopies of the ones I listed, but in the Indiana Jones one at least, he’s based on the pulp heroes of 30s movie serials, so it should be easy to come up with something in that vein without infringing on the Indiana Jones copyright. I’m thinking some sort of barechested British brawler. And to go with him maybe another Gurkha or Maori, or maybe an Indian or Australian Aboriginal to be his sidekick (although pains would have to be taken to make said character a capable hero in his own right to avoid the Mighty Whitey trope).
The Captain America one would be harder to do, but going with the shield warrior idea and combining it with the mystical idea maybe some sort of magical knight? Could draw on Arthurian Mythology as King Arthur is supposed to return to defend Britain in its darkest hour, so maybe he sent a couple of his Knights of the Round Table on ahead. 😉
Good morning everyone.
I have found introducing people to gaming comes in degrees. Factors include rules difficulty, subject matter and willingness / interest.
For example, it’s easier to get someone into x-wing the bigger the Star Wars fan they are.
I’ve had great success getting people into cards against humanity, joking hazard etc especially after a drink. Those games to me represent the “lowest hanging fruit” of the gaming industry.
Hopefully soon I will be introducing my Brother in law and his son into the next steps which is board games with a strong theme that they find enjoyable. In this instance, Reich busters. I’ll report back….
Hey, Dave! Glad to see you back on the site! I hope you like the Arab Isreali Wars content! I remember that was a period you were interested in.
I’m loving the Reichbusters coverage, keep it coming! I’m dinging my dong for all I’m worth.
For recruiting a non-gamer, I’ll continue my campaign to convert my girlfriend to the good cause. Rhino Hero is a great game for getting people into the hobby, it’s super simple to understand and always good fun. Top tip…remember to keep your pet cat out of the room though if you don’t want your 8 floor hive attacked by your furry kaiju…*cry*
Every month is Recruit a Gamer Month! Don’t stop until all the world is gaming!
Sanguinius looks like Heat Miser’s skinny brother who joined the military. And those legs, from that angle, make it look like he’s squeezing out a fart…and trying to keep it from turning into something more. Real majestic.
Like Warren, I’m typically against foot-on-rock posing, but I think they maybe should’ve gone for a both-feet-on-rock pose and given him more of a Legalos sliding down the oliphaunt’s trunk vibe. Would’ve made him look agile and graceful.
Re: Sanguinius – of course he is; how do you think he actually flies? Those wings aren’t nearly big enough to do the job alone!
?
And here I always thought he was able to fly because of ‘space magic.’ I was so envious. Turns out, I had that same magic inside of me all along, especially on Fajita Fridays.
SARGE! SARGE! Over here join my team vs the vrilmiesters !
Have a pledge in for the game and the mini painted by SEB would have pride of place.. He is such a talented individual, saw his work first hand at Warboar in Bromley when I attended the Solomon Kaine day there.
I agree with Justin it is a supportive I HATE YOU.
Wow What an amazing paint job on Sarge from Reichbusters………if i could pain as good as the tip of one of Seb’s nails from his little finger i wouls be one happy woman……. Had the privilage of meeting Seb at Warboar …….. awesome game………cannot wait for our kickstaerer to arrive
How about Guildball or Dreadball for your brother in law @warzan .
I love everything Mythic have turned their hand to, I went full bore on Mythic Battles: Pantheon and just love that game, and have backed Time of Legends; Joan of Arc. Now with Reich Busters, saw another cool game, and a painted sarge of that quality would just top that off.
Great Weekender again guys. Well done as usual
Wow What a Prize. would have to be made pride of place in any collection.
Would love to get that figure.
After watching this I’m truly sad for not having been able to support this game during KS. Time to fix this miss-take in the late pledge program:). Thanks for doing this video. Mythic Games productions to me are like the gifts that keep on giving. Good job everyone.
I have a colleague at work that tried (unsuccessfully) to dabble in 40K quite a while back, and with our local gaming store just doubling in size and it being recruit-a-friend february, this might be the time I bring him and two armies for some in-store demo gaming. See where it goes.
Kalbir has a Mk. V Sten.I’m already thinking about going with a full stealth team for a lot of Raid playthroughs.
I found the easiest way to get someone new into any wargame is to have a share interest in something. I got a friend to play the walking dead game from Mantic and now it escaladed to Zombicide. My Sister like Game of Thrones we have spent hours talking about the TV show and i could easily get her to try the CCg version for Game of thrones.
Happy Weekend!
Reichbusters is looking utterly magnificent, All In, Gung Ho!, waiting somewhat patiently for November ?
Season 2 (for lack of a better term) looks like it will be headed to Antarctica perhaps or maybe even further? time will tell.
Reichbusters look really good, I’m struggling to not go all in…
I think the way I’d approach bring the non gamers in my life into our world of tabletop gaming would be to choose a game based on something they are familiar with.
For example my girlfriend along with our group of friends aren’t gamers int he slightest however they all love the same tv shows such as Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead etc. Now I’d avoid something like Game Thrones because I think it would be just a little too involved to introduce someones to a game, but Mantics Walking Dead would be perfect. Easy to understand and follows rules that can be expanded on over time alongside easy to understand objectives with character they are already familiar with.
I’d also perhaps bring in some boardgames such as Resident Evil 2, my girlfriend has just been enjoying watching me playing it and watching lets plays on youtube so it would be the perfect step, as again story sh’es already familiar with along with characters she already knows.
I would also potentially do other games such as Lord of the Rings or X wing and set up a scenario the group would be familiar with from the films, i.e Amon Hen with the objective to allow Frodo to escape the board or the attack on the Death Star etc. Something they can all work together towards as a group rather than all been against one another.
I’ve just backed Reichbusters Game after watching Weekender, looks great fun.
Watched the reichbusters let’s play project x ….let’s face it…as is 2/3rds of Leo. I did a sample pledge manager and wow…So many goodies. What a great game…once you get 3 d printed terrain ( another kickstarter ) it should be awesome.
Great show again
I recently brought work colleagues into the hobby by playing one of the Unlock! series, and we all had a blast going through those challenges together. Some had never played anything besides Monopoly a long time ago. This experience gave them a huge wake up call that board games had evolved SO MUCH since! So I guess coop, escape room games are great for many types of people, giving you a good chance of conversion to gamer!
And of course I’m hyped for the KS’es coming my way, like Reich Busters! And Seb Lavigne is such a good painter! Not only is all his work for Mythic Games awesome, his previous/other minis from other ranges are also great. I recommend looking at his FB page.
Happy Weekend!!!
I had a group of people from Work over to play board games last Friday, wasn’t in February but would it still count? We did some pretty simple, but fun ones, Chameleon, Epic Spell Wars and Mysterium, was a good night in all. Hoping to do another games night in a couple weeks, might crack out a more complicated game then.
As for the sanguinius model, everything on it looks great, just the pose lets it down. Having said that however, Forgeworld released a picture of Sanguinius on his scenic base today, and with that he doesn’t look too bad, think he also had a spear instead of a sword.
watched video and added project x to pledge
Combination of Reichbusters hero characters you can play.
C(n,r)=C(17,4) =17!/(4!(17−4)!) = 2380
I want to see the playmat before I pledge for that item. Right now it is just a photo that you can barely see.
I hope we see Ben do a play of Rangers of Shadow Deep in some future episode.
Reichbusters is such an amazing looking game, and its not the first time Ive said that, as for the challenge for February, Ive a mate whos expressed a passing interest in tabletop for a while but upon the birth of his child it never really happened. I think its time to explore it again
Reich Busters is so good. I backed it Gung Ho level first day. Sarge prize very sexy, fingers crossed here for jammy dance. Awesome Lets Play this week, I can’t wait till game hits my table.
Backed Reichbusters as soon as I saw play through here, cant wait for it to arrive, the pledge manager is already completed and I just have to find someway to occupy my time until it turns up.
If you wanted a football game that is more than top trumps I picked this up a couple years ago at uk games expo, had a few games with my nephew who is football mad.
https://www.londonboardgames.com/
Love all the new Genestealer cult stuff,
I’ll second the recommendation on the Zealot minotaurs, they’re fab and the casts are as good as the renders
Reichbusters looks fab
There are several games I own that are good to introduce new people to gaming; (which I have)
King of Tokyo/King of New York, Colt Express, Ticket to Ride, 6 nimmt etc.
I am really happy that introducing new people to the hobby that I so enjoy was talked about. I have introduced a few friends and family to the world of miniatures and I found that small scale games were brilliant and I found Infinity Starter Boxes were excellent for it since it built the game up steadily with an increasing number of models and rules and still bore all of the tactical depths that lead deeper. Reichbusters is amazing and I am so happy that I backed the kickstarter. Now off to finish my Pledge Manager and see how much extra money I am going to spend. Happy Weekend everyone.
Definatly in for Reichbusters. Awesome looking game and really nice and enthusiastic guys at mythic games.
I have been thinking about getting my little niece (9) into Burrows & Badgers. I know she’ll love the miniatures and stuff, but she doesn’t have the attention span for anything that lasts longer than 5-10 minutes.
I think if you just make it so you have a few games set around maybe one or two miniatures aside that would be a good start. Make it into a scenario or a co-operative experience and it should work 🙂
I am looking forward to getting All the goodies for this game. Pledge Manager got filled as soon as available with Sally and some other stuff. I just wish that these guys were still in charge Mythic Battles. I was so looking forward to what they were going to do with Ragnarok. Mythic has such a great eye for things. I am eager to see what else they come up with in the future.
Good vid guys, brilliant(or maybe vrilliant?) prize up for grabs. Nice that its something that you couldn’t just go out and buy.
Really don’t need ReichBusters but the minis are so nice i think i might go and have a peek at the pledgemanager.
love the look of Reichbuster but out of my pocket at the moment just as it was before. Hopefully doing some roleplay with mates other half this week 🙂
I was wondering about the Sanguinius model,i think it’s let down ( the most ) by that base and the sword.I’ve seen a different picture where he is armed with a spear and the scenic base is a chunkier design, letting the pose make more sense when looked at.
Today I got the haunebu ll of squadron models for my birthday that I want to use for conflict 47, but now that I’ve seen Reichbusters ufo art, I’m very curious about what the future will bring for reichbusters.
love the art and the miniatures great work again of mythic games.
The first image of sanguinius that comes to mind is the Mike McVey diorama but I am not sure how well that would work as a heroic character on the battlefield My cabinet only has minatures that I painted but I could make an exception.
sarge
I am all in on the Myth Busters, but still appreciated Aahz and Leon going over the post-KS add-ons.
The Weekender has become a Saturday morning tradition in our household. My wife and I throw it up on the big screen while having our morning coffee. Even though she doesn’t game as much as more, she still enjoys the banter between y’all as much as I do.
Keep up the great work
success, i did convert two people last week, a family member got hooked on cards against humanity and wanted to play at least once a week a game, i made some board game suggestions (mythic battles or conan two games i own), and got a coworker interested in some skirmish 40K, we are planing a game sometime next week..
having Leo and Az working together in the same company in this industry is a recipe for success. two of the nicest people around with amazing gaming minds. looking forwards to receive my joan of arc, solomon Kane and reichbusters KS from them! i’ve gone all in on all 3 of these. i’ve not played any mythic games, games yet, but i know that they are going to simply amazing. well worth the money! (i’d love a painted Sarge) 😉
Great episode with the team from Reich Busters. Really enjoyed the lets play, i was literally biting my nails and wincing with pain…it was great! The minis look awesome and the work that has gone into it is a labor of love that just shines through every aspect of it.
is it me or does Benjamin Vandervoot figure look like Telly Savalas. ?
You’ve totally sold me on reichbusters. Just have to find some money, gov shutdown left me a little short this month or two.
Awesome show lads, Weekend starts here. Cant wait to get a copy of Reich busters looks amazing.
He’s the only other pic I was able to find of Sanguinius from a different angle @warzan
It looks a lot better with the Spear although that mini is going to be a Special Edition and it looks like the mini with the sword has that awkward wrist because of the spear pose being converted to hold a sword by the Sculptors.

Scratch that here’s a 360 View

So what is the best munchkin game to get if you have never played it ?
nice video guys.
Probably just buy the core game @zorg or deluxe if you want a quick and easy way to see who is at what level.
Thanks Ben for that I’ll have a look at the versions a harry potter one would be good the Gran kids an girlfriend love that.
Ghost Archipelago Expansion – The tribal minis look cool. Not sure whether the minis might cross over into Blood and Plunder. The conflict I have is that Blood and Plunder take awesome efforts to make things historically accurate and I am not sure that I could play with these new minis if they were completely fantastical and nothing like the Blood and Plunder minis. Not sure. Worth a consider though.
Recruit a gamer Month – I am definately going to attempt to get my brother into at least playing some games with me. As kids he played ManO’War with me, but not much else. The Walking Dead is a game i know so well and have painted so much of that I hope it will have the wow factor of looking great and will hopefully be a great first introduction.
I played The Walking Dead with my mum because she is a massive board game and horror movie fan and i thought it would be great gateway game. She enjoyed it, but at the stage that happens in most Walking Dead games where you stop killing Walkers and start killing eachother I lost her. She didn’t want to shoot at me to take the resources from me to win. “That would be mean”. She litterally gave up winning and started killing walkers until the threat tracker spiked and the game ended. I found this sweet and hilarious and realised that perhaps I should have laid down the importance of resources and that people in your group’s camp could die unless you bring back the guns, loot, meds, food that might save them. I haven’t given up though, because I recently got Here’s Negan and as it is the same universe, and in essence a proper boardgame, I hope she will play this with me – especially as most of the time you are co-operative to beat the game and please Negan to win.
I am also going to play Saga and Bolt Action with my son this month to try and reignite his interest.
With the thoughts drifting towards gateway games I have remembered that what i would really like to play is Shadespire and X-wing (1st edition – not buying everything again or expensive 2nd edition conversion kits thanks.) That might be a way to et some extra enjoyment myself and encourage my brother to play, because they are not heavy big battle war games that can put some new gamers off.
Reich Busters looks a fur-lined ocean-going megahit. Envy to the folks who’ve jumped in, not ruling out joining you, as it were.
Damn I want that Sarge!?
when it comes to recruiting new gamers it comes down to the audience. Ticket to Ride and Pandemic are my go to games for people who I think are already inclined and are usually pretty successful.
Other people have it in their head that games aren’t for them (like my mum and dad!!) But I managed to get them both hooked this Christmas by going for their weaknesses! I know mum likes word and number puzzles so got her with Codenames and Phase 10. My dad is a massive cycling fan – so I bought Flamme Rouge to play with him! Worked a treat!!
One of my favourite Weekenders so far. It’s really fun having a bigger team around the table.
Also, absolutely love the Mythic Games team & can’t wait for Reichbusters!
Best games to recruit new players would include cooperative games like Forbidden Desert and Forbidden Skies. Simple rules, requires lots of talking and planning with the other players and challenging which makes the game tense and very rewarding when you win.
The polar opposite would include competitive games like Kill Doctor Lucky which has very simple rules and has a lot of backstabbing. Munchkin would be a close second.
Miniatures games would be a little trickier. I might suggest Dust 1947 due to the simple rules and prebuilt nature of the minis. Blood Red Skies, Wings of Glory and X-Wing would also rank up there for similar reasons. Maybe even Star Wars Armada. Possibly also Star Trek Attack Wing.
I back far too many games on Kickstarter. I already have a bunch of co-op games, even Weird World War 2 games, so I wasn’t really all that excited about this game. However, being the addict I am, I backed it any, and now I’m really excited!
My 10-year-old niece has played some simple games like Exploding Kittens and Telestrations, but I’m going to see if she would enjoy some D&D 5E. She already does roleplaying in an online video game. There aren’t even rules or success/failure conditions; it’s just kids using their imaginations. For me, roleplaying generally takes a backseat to character min/maxing and tactical combat, so I think it would be a growing experience for both of us.
im not much of a painter so just to have this one painted by such a talented artist would be amazing p.s love the look of recich busters cant wait to see what you have planned for more games.
Fantastic weekender once again lads but I reeeeeally did not need to see more Reichbusters’ awesomeness!!! Am still kicking myself for not backing it to the hilt. Just can’t afford at the mo but damn it looks absolutely amazing!!! Those minis…..damnation!!! Hopefully converting the Mrs over to the dark side soon with her first game of Blackstone Fortress…… fingers crossed 😉 happy weekend everyone!!
I think to get people into tabletop we need to create a strategy where we start at Cards Against Humanity and move up the scale until we end up at a 4X game some how. Feel free to fill in the games in between!
Loving the energy, but how much caffeine had you fed @warzan ? just what’s needed to get me moving on a cold morning for Vapnartak
By “got away” was Gerry implying he just managed to wriggle free from the ropes. I’m not even going to comment on Lloyd’s comment on “trying his wife” – this is front stage!
Is Ben wearing a dressing gown? That’ll help recruiting!
Haha no, just a big furry coat as it’s quite cold in the basement…
Reichbusters looks fantasic. Stayed up till 2am watching the let’s play, couldn’t stop watching.
Don’t think the wife will let me buy anymore games though.
You guys actually got me to take another looks at munchkin dungeons, which is quite an achievement 😛
Can’t wait for Reichbusters! An extra sarge miniature painted by the hero Seb Lavigne would be amazing!
I love the weekender, but I might need to stop watching you guys. My wallet is hurting more and more every week I am watching you guys.
A game I have had alot of luck with when introducing non-gamers to games is Junta. I even managed to convert a few guys that said they hated board games before trying Junta 🙂
How do I bring a friend into gaming?
Parameters would be low costs and not overwhelming the chosen one with too much rules and complications.
1. I choose one of my friends who is interested in history, especially wars in the first half of the 20th century.
2, Invite him to a TV show, pretending it is football.
3. After he´s arrived, confess there is no football on and showing him a documentary about Rommel in Africa.
4. Discussing the documentary.
5. Mentioning that people can recreate “this” in a very special way.
6. Chain him up and provide more beer.
7. Get out the Africa Korps starter set for Flames of War (this is just 27€ here).
8. Let him check the models.
9. Play a turn.
10. Ask what he might have done in case he was in charge.
11. Carry on until resistance is futile.
Interesting enough I am working on this with my sister in law and her husband. We got together on Friday and played some games (Great Dalmuti and Love Letter. My wife wants to let them play Cards Against Humanity. They also mentioned giving miniatures board games a try and looks like we may try Warhammer Quest and he, being American football mad, really wants to try Blood Bowl. And Reichbusters looks great….so hmm. Now to spend more money… LOL
I am so glad I backed Reichbusters at the beginning. It has given me time to save up for the add ons.
Ticket to Ride is a great intro game. I was actually able to get my wife to play and she enjoyed it. Another was Zombie Dice. It is quick, easy and portable.
Can’t wait to check out the OP Center podcast. I enjoy SITREP a great deal.
I am sorely tempted by ReichBusters but its a lot of money and a lot of unpainted models that’ll demand attention before they see the table. I also feel like I need to go all in or not bother as I fear i won’t see the rest at retail, which is a problem. I know they say they are trying for retail, but I’m not sure how likely that is.
It’s probably already been said, but they need to do a spin off under the Busters lisence. 1980s new yourk and spooky things are going on. 4 Busters are sent in to a hotel to investigate, but things spiral out of control and now they have to save the city by busting ghosts. Not sure what they would call the game though. Any ideas?
Projekt X won’t ever go to retail, nor O’Reilly or some of the stretch goals.
I saw some were KS exclusive. Theres always the possibility that when a companysays that they mean that sculpt but an alt sculpt may go retail one day. I didn’t think that was the case here. I’m debating going base + project x. I’ll have fun painting it all even if I don’t get a group together. I see no reason why I couldn’t play it solo anyway. I don’t need food this month.
I don’t suppose that the campaign is written in such a way that you can plan your painting around it? Like we start with only 4 heroes unlocked and only need 1/4 of the baddie sculpts for the first mission, and a handful get added every mission thereafter? A painting plan for those who don’t want to play with bare plastic might be nice.
It’s definitely solo-able though we’d recommend playing two Heroes. You could start with a Vrilmeister faction card and paint those minis. There’s overlap between them so once you’d finished one you would already have made a start on one or two others.
Yes, for KSE we include the gameplay element and not just the sculpt. We don’t rule out making any KSE available at cons or future seasons, but it will never enter retail distribution.
To clarify, that’s future seasons when they’re on KS.
Thanks. Its a starting point. With games like this I fear not finishing painting them until long after I’ve finished playing them about as much as I fear never starting them until after painting everything and never getting that far.
Those painted ReichBusters Minis, amazing! Just adds to the want factor!
Now to set the unrealistic promise that this will be my last kickstarter until I have at least completed building and painting my Kingdom Death minis.
Those painted minis for Reich Busters are insane. Love the guy with 4 arms. Im getting my wife and daughter into tabeltop games. For wargame started with Deadzone, as it is a simple to pick up with the grid system. Right now we have started playing Highlander and Villainous which were Christmas gifts.
I just can’t wait to play that lovely game Reichbuters
Reich Busters miniatures look fantastic. As does the game. I am not allowed to back it on kick-starter, Wife’s decision. So will it be on general release in the end? Great show chaps. See you Sunday.
We plan on getting the non-KSE elements into retail.
I told the guy living in the apartment below mine, about Zombicide. He said it sounded interesting, so I’ll invite him for a try.
Another great Weekender!! Reichbusters looks good, but I’m not sure I’m a fan of the theme though.
Great show today. Watching this while preparing for the Superbowl, or as Gerry might say American fotball. As a backer a Riechbusters I loved the show and all of the new ways they are fine tuning this game to make it as awesome as possible. I have many sports minded friends and think Bloodbowl or any of the sports themed miniatures games would be the best way to introduce one of my non-gamer friends to miniature gaming. Great show, looking forward to XLBS.
Reichbusters is looking fantastic. Delivery can’t come soon enough :-)
Love me some Weird War gaming. All the sculpts for RB beg to be painted, of course they’ll have to be at a level just a shade below Seb’s…
@dignity Justin this is not a tabard, This is crotch flap. watch this.

I’ve been introducing a couple of groups of friends to boardgames recently. King of Tokyo is my go to intro game. Simple rules that allow a lot of tactics. The game isn’t too long and works for kids and adults.
However, as we’ve progressed both groups have favoured Splendor. Not sure why since we all liked the other games we’ve tried but you can tell from the silence that descends when we pick up our first tokens that Splendor is the game people really want to win.
I’d give an honourable mention to Coup as well. Great little game that I keep being asked the price of as we’re playing.
Great show. Stoked for Reichbusters!
Mythic make it very difficult for me to say ‘no’ to any of their projects.
I am so hyped for ReichBusters, I think it will be a great game to play with my gaming group here in Japan. It going to be fun as most of my gaming group only speaks Japanese but they are all airsoft mad and mech mad so having a game like this is going to make them so excited. Really can’t wait.
sorry but i’m waiting for Ben to lick Justin’s head!! he is just so close to him.
my challenge is to get my wIfe and 2 spawns into boardgaming. so i purchased warhammer quest silver tower to paint up and get them to play with me. the spawns are 10 and 6 so may need to assist them which is how ill get the wife in 🙂
Okay, that’s a cool mini and the Reichsbuster team is just so darn enthusiastic 😉
I had the pleasure of playing with the Seb Lavigne painted minis for Moonstone, and that guy has a perfect style for the pulp/comic elements of games.
A brilliant collectors piece prize, so thanks to mythic for a great prize offer.
Could lead to a custom scenario about sarge being encased in a display cabinet and the army men come to life to go rescue him – a nice house ruled toy story esque adventure.
God Reich buster just keeps getting better
Well I’ve been well and truly hooked on Reich Busters…where to cut my mini spending…?
I have worked one thing out (@warzan and @lloyd if you read this many pages in), why Lloyd doesn’t play the lets plays….other than the fact they don’t play Saga….the number of people who touch the minis. If Sarge has been to all the Expos and Cons they mentioned he will be covered in “biseases”!!!
@dt73 “the number of people who touch the minis” – too late, everyone touches my mouse anyway 🙂
It was hard to resist the original kick starter but I did it, especially having gone all in on both Hellboy and Soloman Kane. I was unable to do so this time, Haha. Reichbusters looks amazing I can’t wait. I’ve played blood angels since 2nd ed. and from the image I’ve seen, I’m a little disappointed. I’ll keep an open mind. As always great job guys.
I believe the “Genestealer’s Kiss” still occurs when the ‘Stealer hypnotises it’s victim and using the ovipositor in it’s tongue, stabs it into you (not sure if they still have it force it down yer throat, like the old days) and injects the victim with the ‘Stealers genetic material, enslaving the poor buggers mind.
Old school Gene Cult body horror. Gotta love it.
Okay, I’ll have to check out the Reichbusters’ playthrough…
Reichbusters is like a dream come true for me. I am a student of World War 2, and so is my wife. We discovered that about each other very early on and it seemed like such a strange thing to have in common that we bonded instantly. We play sniper elite / zombie army all the time on the pc, but our favourite game is still Company of Heroes where she plays as the Americans and I play as British. My favourite board game is Memoir 44 for creating such a simple system in a neat package to play intense and engaging games. My wife and I play it every year on our Anniversary. We are currently working on painting the minis together. When I first showed her the trailer for Reichbusters we actually cried with big smiles on our faces. She was sold as instantly as I was. I have somehow kept the alien expansion away from her as I want that to be a surprise. Yes, that is our other fandom. When we first reach that portal and teleport to another world she is going to be squealing with delight. Thanks Mythic Games for making something that connects to us so personally. It looks like an absolute blast!
I’m with @lloyd: one of the big reasons I’m not a fan of GW minis is that they are too detailed to look at comfortably. And it makes me not enjoy looking at them, which we all know is a big part of enjoying a game. There is no doubting the technical skill involved in creating GW kits, but for me they are nowhere near the best available on the market because they are way too busy!
On the subject of recruiting gamers: I’m far too anti-social to ever meet anyone to recruit!
Recruit a gamer month!
I run a games club in the school I work at for the kids. Games like Coup/Resistance, Munchkin, Machi Koro, Titan Race, and so on. One game that gets played week in, week out is GF9’s Tanks game. We only have an hour so that fits nicely.
I’ve had several other staff members help out, one of them now does staff development. He’s approached me and asked if I can do a gaming session for the staff in the school. To be honest I’m bricking it. It’s hard enough at times controlling the kids, controlling your peers?!
I’m going to maybe approach it with 3 C’s; Co-operative games, Combative games, and Competitive games. Maybe poll the attendees to see what they’d like to do. Thinking Pandemic or Forbidden Desert/Island for the Co-op crowd, Coup or Arena for the Gods to cater to the Combative ones, and perhaps Machi Koro or Sushi Go for the Competitive ones.
Maybe we’ll get a gamer or two out of them, and *maybe* I could push for funding for the club once they see how cool games are…!
Between the Superbowl and work, i almost forgot to finish watching the show and post!
Thanks for another Reich Buster indepth look and now, i have to catch up with the XLBS!
Another great show guys! I really like Frostgrave and am glad to see all of the new added content and miniatures that they are adding to it. During the holidays, I got the whole family and some family friends to play Werewolf. Many of them had never played any games even remotely like it before. Great game to get people started playing. That Seb Lavingne painted Hans was amazing!
Belated Happy Weekend! I do love Mystery Men, great film.
Reichbusters continues to look fantastic!
Not sure if it counts for gamer recruitment, but we have a monthly social event at our office with different themes, and just a short while ago we run our second board game night. A few of us in the office are gamers, and so we tend to provide the games, but a lot of non-gamers come along for the free beer and pizza and end up playing.
Though we played things like Sword Crafters, Sagrada, Layers and Sherif of Nottingham by far the most popular game with non-gamers was “Fold-it” which is a game when you explain the concept people find it weird, but when they actually play have a blast!
