Happy Dungeoneering!
Happy Sunday!!!
Happy Sunday, Hope all is well . Taking a break to see you all this late or early on your point of view . Happy Dungeon Crawling Folks. 🙂
Please don’t be diverting Mantis focus from Warpath 2.0!
The Dungeon Saga does look fun, though it does seem that the whole weekend has been focused on just one game, which sometimes seems not so fun.
Need to add a smiley or two ☺ that reads as more grumpy than I intended.
Lucky you added the smilies!
I nearly whipped off my loin cloth again 😉
when i was 12 i was always a werebear in D&D so i best leave my cloth on :P.
but now dungeon saga has come out i want to relive those werebear days !!!!
Especially now im fat and hairy lol!
any conversion idea’s?
i want my mini to be half human half bear so i was thinking rat ogre GW body, give it giant feet for the human look, thats as far have i got so far.
It’s ” Dungeon Saga Weekend”, not Mantic Weekend. It is surely meant to be focused on just one game isn’t it? 😛
I would like to see more from Warpath too but dungeon crawling is far more exciting.
I like everything in the game with one exception. I am not sold on the dice matching mechanic. Perhaps it is decades of playing D&D, but the matching mechanic is a bit odd to me.
Sometimes simple mechanics are the best for a game trying to keep things at a certain level!
As coxjul says, simple combat resolution mechanics helps the game flow, especially when it is clearly a narrative orientated game! The dice matching mechanism works perfectly for Spartacus the boardgame and stops the game becoming bogged down around just the combat!
Happy Sunday!
I was thinking, maybe Dungeon Saga needs an event deck to get more story in into it.
Might already be in the Adventurer’s Companion. We have seen that yet.
http://www.manticgames.com/mantic-shop/dungeon-saga/product/dungeon-saga-the-adventurers-companion.html
*haven’t
In fact,we have seen that already:
the event deck is used to place monsters in your “random” dungeon:
http://manticblog.com/2015/06/26/uncharted-dungeons-in-dungeon-saga/
Surely for child models you can just use some kind of half Ling figure?
Happy Sunday!!
lloyd “first monster that comes to mind”
Jason “Mammoth”
almost spat my coffee over my monitor! hahaha
Hasslefree Miniatures have loads of femail miniatures. I remember them doing a few kid adventurers too but i’m not sure if they still have them.
Also…
Gargoyles are water spouts.
Grotesques are decorations.
I have never been a dungeon crawler fan but this does look good.
I love the packaging, scenery looks good too.
Recently played Arcadia quest and enjoyed it, so might be worth trying dungeon saga.
Good job mantic and nice content bow
Just like @warzan I still love all my toys and I am in my forties! Of course it helps when you have friends that also like playing.
Had to pause the video during the part about a game’s lore…
The development level of lore in WHFB is part of what drove me away after 3rd edition. It started to become so stifling and overblown, just to sell specific mini’s, that the there was little room to use your own imagination. And I wasn’t smitten with the content of that lore either, which made it worse for me.
I like a game to have no more than a basic structure of lore, so that I can fill the rest in myself.
Hasslefree Miniatures:

Warren, getting hold of the templates for the cards would be fantastic. It’d really open the scope of Dungeon Saga, limiting it only to your imagination.
+1
Happy Dungeon Delving Weekend!
Doesn’t Myth count as an expandable, flexible Dungeon Crawler?
Yes, but I see it in a classification of its own as a coop hack and slash, I think dungeon crawler is too much of an oversimplification for myth 🙂
Having seen a few game play videos on Myth it’s not something I’d class as a dungeon crawler, and the learning curve is steeper than the dungeon crawlers I’ve played.
North Star Miniatures does a Lord of the Jungle blister that has a young boy in Loincloth holding a knife. With a simple weapon swap he might make a good child barbarian.

Happy Sunday dungeon crawling everyone 😀 .
Happy Sunday …… Loving the Dungeon Saga Weekend (especially Warren regressing to his youth)
@warren Maybe the charachter of mice and mistics little mice adventurers? Mantic has more heroes comming up including alot more female.
A dungeon crawler series? YES!
Happy Sunday
No Barney’s were harmed in the making of this XLBS ??
Release the Were-mammoth.
Some eye candy for you. My friends run a Dungeon crawl at our local Convention.
https://picasaweb.google.com/107421963714842685893/CotN2014?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCPqOk6LXoMSlgwE&feat=directlink
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/o1pWiyMEps0jfQhULzUDAZ1EZyo29WCxCQNIFwNA424?feat=directlink
dungeon is all dwarven forge. rules were DnD light simplified for convention play.
At what age is it ok to go all out to win against your own daughter? I think 4 is a good age to learn how to deal with crushing defeat!
A quick revisit to the KS page gives an idea of what’in the DS pipeline. Went to check for alt gender models, there are new heroes of different classes, some of which are female, but not alts for each class like Myth do… Did I mention Myth already 😉
Happy Sunday!
If Mantic are as open to collaboration as they sound then maybe you could get supported as providers of official “mods” or something?
You (Warren) have come up with a lot of cool modifications to gameplay there. Not everyone will like them but it would be nice if there was an “official” place to go to get these mods. Tweaks to the rules etc. For simple things like not using the game turn time limit you wouldn’t need it but when you start including pack mules which are supported by a run mechanic etc then it could easily get sloppy without some clear documentation.
How cool would it be to get a pdf from BoW with official Mantic branding (from a template they could provide) which we could print off and use to either replace the rules entirely or use as supplemental rules depending on the complexity.
You could rate them just like you would on Steam.
I’m extremely excited for this and have high hopes of it being a long term hobby. But for that to happen I think it will need a lot of support from Mantic and the community. (Which I reckon will happen anyway, as everyone seems enthusiastic for this).
I feared we would be weekenderless, now I can sit down and enjoy. And try not to think about @warzan in a loincloth ; )
Can’t wait to play Dungeon Saga, it’s going to replace most all of my dungeon crawlers.
Happy Sunday!
I prefer the Myth visual style and love the monster but I also like how streamline rules in dungeon saga so my question guys, between dungeon saga and Myth which one do you think is better?
If I were only playing with the BoW crew (more experienced gamers) then it would be myth as the coop mechanics are first class.
But for home gaming I’m running with dungeon saga as even little ones can get involved 🙂
Games belong in their own moments 🙂
Yeah I think the same.
Here is the thing, I’m looking for a self contain game to sue casually with friends at home, some are experience players, some are people didnt play for the last 15 years but they are familiar with hero quest or space hulk so I need an easy way to bring then back to “the dark side” 😉
Variety as they say is the spice of life, its true in gaming as well.
@warzan maybe if your aiming at playing this with your daughter a more kid friendly range of minis might be the answer. You’ll also find some familiar D & D cartoon characters amongst these 😉
http://impactminiatures.com/index.php?option=chibi
I’m not going to take the chibi route as I don’t think it’s necessary 🙂
(And I don’t think you have to go chibi to make it more kid friendly, really some little kid adventurer models would be all that’s required)
Hasslefree do a few Kid adventurers:

As always love the XLBS and just sold of Dungeon Saga! One area I wanted to give feed back on his the discussion around Dungeon Delving versus just full on RPG and the waving of the PHB 5e. The core mechanics for D&D can be explained to a four year old just opt for pre generated characters as your starting point. For me Warren is spot on you can get the atmosphere instantly from games like Dungeon Saga and then lead the player to the full experience of D&D.
Roleplaying games provide, for me at least, the greatest experience but you do need the right group of players. I’ve been in good groups, bad groups and some fantastic groups. perhaps I’ll submit a piece to BoW on the three ages of Role players! Warrens use of balnce between the two in creating a hybrid experience is what being a true gamer is where systems and rules create a framework of options.
Hoo boy. That was quite the show. Still waiting for my Dungeo Saga and KoW stuff to arrive so I can get rolling.
Would we like to see a dungeon crawling series? Hell YES!!
It would also be nice if you could do some hobby stuff around dungeon crawling, especially painting the figures and making terrain and furniture.
I have two girls myself (5 and 9), bit appeal of this is the basic game is simple enough to get them involved, really looking forward to that.
The other adventure Crawler to look at for younger folk is Mice & Mystics, check out the TableTop game linked from BoW.
Very Nice looking dungeon set Warren have there
.@warzan Perhaps you could use Arya Stark as an child adventurer.
http://www.darkswordminiatures.com/shop/index.php/miniatures/george-r-r-martin-masterworks/arya-stark-on-the-run.html
“Why not just roleplay?”
Funnily enough, that exact thought passed through my mind whilst watching the show.
And where do one start and the other end ?
I’m really tempted to start a dungeon delving campaign….I have dungeon tiles and Songs of Blades and Heroes…along with a ton of monsters…
I used to love playing hack and slash as a kid..me and my friends would get very competitive on who killed the most in a game.. we’d all end up running off trying to kill the most monsters and nearly always ending up dead ourselves…lol
Warren, I know hasslefree has already been mentioned, but you could also try getting some custom minis made up from Heroforge. Not the cheapest way, I know, but guaranteed one of a kind, and I’m sure the girls would love it, my wife loves her halfling I had made.
A whole show on Dungeon Crawling! Woohoo!
Great stuff
Show should have come with a warning though 😉
**Smut warning – Dungeon Crawler nostalgia – Early teen sense of humour rife** 😉
@dignity – you mentioned Knightmare Live – I built and painted the Helmet of Justice (amongst other bits and bobs) for the show.
Hello, very interesting show this week plus great job with the dungeon saga weekend so far. My gaming group and I are very much into the old school dungeon crawl, graph and hex paper all the way.
We’ve been using a set of rules that the community may be familiar with, it is a variation on the Microlite20 system. The particular rule-set is called Dark Dungeons http://www.gratisgames.webspace.virginmedia.com/darkdungeons.html These might be of interest to anyone who wants a rules-light rpg. We’re enjoying them immensly. There is a vast wealth of user created material for M20 out there http://www.retroroleplaying.com/ this is a good place to start if you’re interested.
Also there are a few online randomizers that I’ve found useful as the gm for our group. they don’t take the place of a well crafted dungeon but they can be fun and are certainly useful.
http://donjon.bin.sh/
http://www.seventhsanctum.com/index.php
Both of these have been most useful and I if you don’t know about them it’s worth taking a look. I hope these prove useful or at least interesting.
Great weekender and a big yes to a dungeon delving series
I second that, a dungeon delving series would be very much appreciated.
I’d love my own dungeon, but not the kind Warren’s thinking of. I know what warren is wanting but it just sounds like a crap ghost train, no offense :3
I’m gonna pre-order the adventurers companion, I love making my own characters (probably all that time playing Skyrim and Fallout etc) and the idea of being also able to play as a band of evil characters is awesome! Twilight Kin Assassin here I come.
Happy Sunday, what a great XLBS
Dungeon crawl series YHEAAAaAAAAA!
Lloyd just to give you a different flavour I once started a D&D campaign with my four PC stood on a Gallows as the executioner putting the nooses around their necks. Needless to say they did survive but then using skill checks over the first evening gam play they were able via flashback able to piece together the back story which not only got them their but also drove them onto the next part of the narrative.
For me being a DM can be a very rewarding experience but it does take a lot of preparation and effort which is why Dungeon Saga is a good stop gap if its not appropriate to your story to play a session on the hop.
Hasslefree miniatures does some little kids.

http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?product=albert~hfh037&category=fantasy-%26steampunk~fantasy-humans
When warren mentioned children minis I just thought of the dungeons and dragons cartoon series. Maybe someone has/ will make a range, if dads army has been done I’m sure we could see it. Then maybe someone to finish the cartoon. Those kids are still trapped in that world 🙁
A Dungeon Saga Junior game would be cool
Here you go
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Schleich-16517-Wooly-Mammoth/dp/B000H6H81Q
I do have to admit. I’m with Warzan 100% on everything he said in this episode. 🙂
Dungeon crawlers are an awesome lead in to RPGs and I would love to see a dungon crawl series.
Also. Warzan. Force Lloyd to watch Critical Role. Then he’ll understand just how awesome RPGs can be.
good afternoon to you all, this might been in the comment allready, but the HQ 25th aneverchety are on its wat, an year after it birthday, with some vumvs in the road, it is dued to aurum/desember this year. at least what the gamezone guys mention in their last letter to us KS backers :D. futher i cant wait to crack open my GS and start leading my girlftirnd through my childhood dungeoun crawling, warren we are both grown up with the exitement from old days HQ and warhammer quest games, i even played D&D at the same age as you. my 40 years old bones are itching to become the evil master again, leading my heroes into nasty traps, riddles and roleplayaing act in the twited dungeoun. great video on this segement, bring back good old memories as well.
Vladricky
Yes go to hasslefree minis!!
can you find a mammoth or two in warzans deep dark crevice ………happy sunday
Harpy sunday!
The word of the day at BoW HQ is mammoths. 🙂
You’re forgetting Advanced Hero Quest again. Maybe it only existed for 5 minutes, I don’t know.
Wow, really getting excited about dungeon saga now. Am not to fussed about an event deck, I plan on doing a lot of that myself in an rpg style.
Card sleeves for custom cards is an incredible idea, I’d be grateful if anyone can post some ones appropriate for this kind of game.
As for tiles and terrain don’t overlook worldworks games, if you have a laser printer you can abuse (works after hours for example) then there are some gorgeous options, I used cheap self adhesive floor tiles to back them to give them some thickness and am hoping the dungeon saga clips will hold them together!
Gargoyles were early ‘drainpipes’. Water would run off the roof and through the gargoyles mouth. If a ‘gargoyle’ doesn’t have the ability to have water running through it somehow, its a grotesque.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gargoyle
I’d love a series of Dungeon crawling! These past couple of shows have (in my humble opinion) been the most entertaining yet, and this has by far been the best XLBS, as it catered to all my greatest interest.
Oh, and if Justin ever wants to play as the lovechild of Roger and one of his mammoths:
http://www.mierce-miniatures.com/index.php?act=pro&pre=mrm_dkl_fmr_blr_wcf_701_000 😉
West wind does make a Dwarf War Mammoth in the Dwarfs War range – I seem to recall
Gamezone miniatures, the company under HeroQuest 25th Anniversary, has 2 young explorer miniatures.
I think I may have just found the skirmish fantasy game I have been looking for. I know it’s not a skirmish game as such, but it’s what I ha v e been looking for without realising. The cross over between rpg and a wargame
The mammoth has to be found and a Dungeon crawl series is a must
@warzan I’d definitely love to see a dungeon crawler series!
http://thedicebaglady.net/
For all your believable female miniature needs.
Stonehaven Miniatures have lots of children models as far as I can remember. I think I have child dwarfs.
Yes, yes I would like to see you guys dungeon crawl.
I have thoroughly enjoyed dungeon saga weekend. I can’t wait to have my kickstarter stuff in hand. I would love to see more dungeon crawling adventures from you guys, and it would be great if Warren does share his custom rules.
Haha Justin IS the Karl Pilkington of BoW 😛
Love the depth you’ve gone into with your family @warzan
Don’t suppose you want to adopt a 45 year old do you?
Advanced Heroquest was always my favourite of the 3 GW offerings…
Dungeon-Crawling show?
Yes please! 🙂
Schleich, (german plastic toy manufacturer and not cheap)
Do an entire family of mammoths or used to do. If you want monsters etc large type these are the ones. Really detailed and anatomically correct!!!!
Absolutely terrific show, have a good day people everywhere and good hunting.
Hasslefree miniatures certainly used to have child miniature figures.
such a good show !
yes would love to see a dungeon crawl show
warzan you could use the rats from mice and mystics with the shrink spell and have a separate dungeon section like you did with the well bit .
i can remember my dad playing hero quest with me and my brother like 2 times , i am sure he hated it lol
i bought myth when it came out but have not really played it because of the rule changes and other such issues
dungeon saga looks like the game i have been hoping for , i can see myself getting really into it as a hobby .
i would love to see a sci-fi dungeon crawler with this kind of expandability , along the lines of space hulk or project grime cargo
Treasure Trap back in the 70’s 80’s in Wales I think? They had the entire dungeon idea going with people playing monsters and special effects etc. They took over an some old buildings and dressed them up. I think they even used to something in a natural cave area.
It may have been a bit “foam sword” but I am reliably informed that when the monsters jumped out of the darkness it was quite scary.
I thoroughly enjoyed today’s show, Happy Sunday boys!
Treasure Trap
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treasure_Trap
Yes, that’s them.
Heroquest 25th Anniversary Edition is currently on pre-order: http://www.gamezoneminiatures.com/tienda/en/heroquest-25th-/1715-heroqu.html .
Advanced Heroquest was my preference. There is still plenty of fan made material for it around the web.
I’d love to see Mantic do a set of Plastic, gridded tiles that could be used to replace the card tiles in the box. A low-cost basic set could appeal to Dungeon Saga players and RPG players alike.
@warzan Having myself played a large number of CCGs the card protections are a godsend also we used these to keep are deck together and might be an idea to give your cards more protection.
http://imgur.com/a/bXCG2#0
Happy Sunday! I found you a mammoth:

And isn’t it pre painted?
some of me best times in gaming as a kid were playing Heroquest game that my dad run for me and my sister. im thinking of getting this for a while and my son who just turned 4 wants to try it. and if i can use it to help him with his counting and reading qwhile im doing it then even better
You could of said to Warren and Lloyd: ‘The party goes down the frog to the battle for a few pigs, they end up having some gold; it then kicks off a bit of a Barney and the bottles turn up and nic ’em.’
@warzan ive found these. best child minis i can find. thinking of getting some for my little monster http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?product=medieval-kids~hfh044&category=fantasy-%26steampunk~fantasy-humans
http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?product=medieval-kids~hfh044&category=fantasy-%26steampunk~fantasy-humans this link works
Yes please to the collective dungeon crawl thing. I’m just introducing my own daughter (three and a half) to some simple dungeon crawling and light RPing. Great stuff this episode btw.
Played heroquest and warhammer quest when I was young, but most of the gear was used to play d&d
My kids love heroquest albeit with a few house rules, so anything dungeon crawl related is very much welcome gents!
I dont how you guys Larp in Ireland/UK but in Sweden it rocks, we built ower own scarp cart for the mad-max theme Post-Apocalys larp BLodsband next week! Dayz/Stalker- IRL awesome. Fantsy larp can be great to, large battle at dusk against hordes of orcs, cant get that no where else. The feel of being in the battle of helms deep in first person for a few hours, then grabbing a pint around the camp-fire with your recalling parts of the battle ^^ I could retell loads of epic moments we have been throu via larp. Not to forget its queit the experience for the youngsters aswell. You do know the LotR orcs and Urukhai were modelled upon swedish larp orcs? A lot of costume you se out there are movie-class if not often better in a few ocations.
Nice episode, fun to hear you RPG-fying the game ^^
Dungeon crawl series…..yes please, no crevice thank yah 😉
I think the drunken night out sounds like a great idea, a bit like Conkers Bad Fur Day hehe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erUnPVQggAw
Love to see the dungeon crawl/pub adventure, lol. Great show, I have totally enjoyed this Dungeon Saga Weekend.
Hope you had a Happy Sunday
Doesn’t the Stoic Arms have a handy trapdoor behind the bar? That would be a great way to lead down to a cellar with a false wall/hidden door going down into dungeony levels below.
I’d run the first adventure as a quiet night down the pub rudely interrupted by gribblies storming up from below and a big old brawl kicking off before the players have to go into the depths and sort them out.
yes to a dungeon crawling show. Would be fun to watch and perhaps steal some ideas.
I would love to see a Bi-weekly dungeon crawl it could become your own “Critical Hole”. With guest players etc….
One of my favourite weekenders ever this. I was cracking up by the end.
Also a really interesting discussion about the differences between RPGs and dungeon crawlers.
This is something I’ve thought about a lot in the past. To broaden it out, there is often a crossover between RPGs and miniature games in general, with most people having a preference at one end of the scale, but some experience of both. Dungeon crawlers take the scale full circle for me, in that they’re board games (at the opposite end of the scale to RPGs) which invite customisation, and getting into character.
In my view the scale is about the level of abstraction. In a board game, you’re represented by a playing piece, or pieces, movement is based on squares or areas, and the players utilise the mechanics strategically to attempt to win. Highly abstract, not very immersive or creative. At the opposite end of the scale, in an RPG, you don’t need miniatures or a playing area, and the mechanics are just there to figure out what happens when a player decides to do something. Which could be anything.
I get the most enjoyment out of that fully immersive RPG experience, but it’s harder to pull off. To really work, you need a good group and a great GM. The best groups I have been in never used miniatures or grids.
Warrens vision with dungeon saga seems to about using dungeon saga to gradually transition from a rigid board game to a truly open ended RPG, which I think is a really interesting concept.
In my current group, we do use miniatures and a map when in combat, but it’s not to scale, and is just there as a rough aid to the imagination, so people can keep track of the action.
What’s interesting is that the players with a more board/miniatures games background find it really difficult to step away from the table, and start focusing on moving their little meeple around, ranges, movement, cover etc. Whereas some of the others forget to move their miniature at all after describing what they’re attempting to do.
https://www.facebook.com/pages/True-Dungeon/117702924020 warren’s theme park
wrap it up all you like a dungeon theme park is just LARPing lol
@warzan your live dungeon idea is pretty much LARP. Not all LARP is like role models.
On the subject of LARP that’s exactly where I’m off to next weekend – the Lorien Trust Gathering, a festival event – my very own live dungeon crawl. You are correct that there’s lots of sitting around in tents and drinking but there’s definitely not a lot of bitching about people’s costume. If you think the Live Dungeon idea still sounds like fun then you should definitely try a LARP event. What’s more, the Lorien Trust is incredibly family friendly with dedicated childrens plot.
i was wolves faction about 10 years ago at lorien and it was epic! sadly i had to give it up due to working all over the uk. Good times while they lasted though :).
But i agree Warren and the family should try it!!!
That is an awesome shirt Justin! Amnesia was a great game. Wouldn’t a horror focused dungeon deliver be great?
Ainsty Castings do resin dungeon scenery as well.
http://www.ainsty-castings.co.uk/
OMG! nightmare was awesome!!! did you guys see the anniversary special?. I have them all on VHS and early ones on Betamax lol. loving the weeked so far and if anyone actually reads my comments i was looking to get back into gaming and i settled on KoW, now i know this mixes with dungeon saga im sold!!!
P.s
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE look into SLA Industries RPG, its another game from my youth but based in the future.
I did make my own minis for it and a city board, was so much fun and i would like you guys to look into and do a reveiw of it.
I may even come over to BoW HQ to play if possible 😛
Now waiting for Lloyd’s Hobby Lab on building the Astral Sea..
On the topic of children minis, have you thought about converting LotR hobbits? Sam/Frodo in Orc armour should work as a barbarian, slap a green stuff Gandalf hat onto a regular Frodo/Sam/Merry/Pippin and a staff for a wizard or a bow for an archer, the Rohan and Gondor versions of Merry and Pippin for warriors, etc
For a mammoth, why not take a mumak, skin an old teddy bear, then put the teddy bear fur on the mumak? ;p
As for a regular Dungeon Crawling series – I think that would be fun to watch 😀
Warren suspects that the role players will be asking “why don’t you just role play?”. I am a keen role player and I am not asking this question. I bought Descent to play with people for whom role play is a step too far but who like the tactical elements. It seems that Warren is kitbashing Dungeon Saga into the rpg experience he wants it to be, and that’s great. However, in my experience few players play a dungeon delver with the rpg enthusiasm that Warren has been displaying. I know people who play D & D who role play less! I am a little disappointed that Descent and Mice and Mystics and the like have got a passing mention and nothing more. It would be nice to have some in-depth comparison. It seems to me if young family play is your aim, Mice and Mystics might fire their imagination more. Descent is excellent and the absence of plastic doors does not make me want to swap it for Dungeon Saga.
Happy Sunday!
OK, now I’m torn…..buy Dungeon Saga (if I don’t win a copy 😉 ) or go and dig out WH Quest from the cupboard….
Loving the ideas Warren, this seems like a good game to introduce my kids to good old fashion dungeon crawling as well
a dungeon crawling series would be ace
You could have given me a million guesses as to what monster Justin would have wanted to see and a Mammoth would not have been on my list.
Brilliant, thanks @justin, you made my day.
Yes! Please do a Dungeon Saga series!
Children might enjoy playing with Reaper’s Mousling Miniatures.
all looks good apart from the board pieces and the plastic clips, it does not seem to be holding together as well as the jigsaw type pieces
You inspired me to play Mice and Mystics with my daughter, Clara age 6. She quickly grasp the game mechanics. Tactics are a bit more than she can grasp. But she had a lot of fun. It was great because we were both on the same side working together. The mice miniatures are great. Dungeon Saga looks like a great gateway game, too. I want to get Clara ready for D&D. She is already painting miniatures – she likes monsters.
wow… lots of ideas I really am getting into the idea of Role Playing games again… its been years just need to get a new group together.
I always enjoyed the character creation part on the rpg’s that is the key difference with games like dungeon saga the time is in the mini’s and your characters are rather 1 dimensional.
Justin I need your ideas for your campaign! I also have a group that would love to play what you have started to flesh out. I would also willingly make Rodger the Mammoth Herder D&D for you.
So it’s a good game then. It has doors. And potentially mammoths.
@warzan You might want to have a look at the old Final Fantasy games; (S)NES era. Half the add-on spells you mentioned are standards in those games. They also felt more like a dungeon crawl than the more modern versions.
The shows where you talk about playing games with Savannah are always very entertaining. I do hope you get to the point of creating a show where the two of you play/present a game together.
In the meantime I would love to join you on your adventures to have a barney with mammoths.
Mammoth. Brilliant.
You guys are really inspirational. You make me wanna play more games.
Memories of being 1 of 4 nerds in schol planning our D&D for the weekend :).
PLEASE guys look into SLA industries RPG it was the 2nd part of my youth and so not played enough!!!!.
Loved knightmare i recorded then on vhs ( and betamax before that, im so old :'()
loving the weekend guys and KoW and now dungeon saga are gonna be my new getting back into the gaming hobby thing :).
Happy Sunday!
Great show guys. Here are some mammoths http://www.ironmammoth.talktalk.net/imd/MMF.html
@warzan @dignity
Waiting for Dungeon Saga to arrive – so in the meantime, watching and drooling 🙂 At the moment our gaming group plays a bit of a mix of games – Kings of War for battles, Pathfinder for our role playing and board games for a bit of a break (Betrayal at House on the Hill, that kind of thing) and we enjoy the variety. I really liked the way Warren tried to inject the atmosphere and mood in the game play demos (as opposed to just ‘you need to get to this door here’, which kind of misses the whole building of an experience) and would LOVE to see a series on Dungeon Saga on the site…and the idea of sharing cards seems great! Hope it happens!
Guys… Funniest show in a while! Funny you’re doing a dungeon delving week-end on the very week-end the pledge manager for Myth: Journeyman is finally out! Can’t wait to get my stuff next summer!
Hero Quest is the game that started it for me. I then went directly into roleplaying with the first edition of Dungeon & Dragon before being totally sucked in the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay universe. As I’m getting older, I’m coming back to boardgame and such as it represents less time investment. When I discovered Myth and called my gaming buddies, we knew we would be teenagers once again, impersonating heroes and fighting evil.
Only now, it isn’t illegal to be drinking beer while doing so! 😉
I used to love Advanced Heroquest which added the warhammer range to Heroquest it was just a shame the boxed game was all the same Skaven figure. Loved rolling to see what was around the next corner. What room and what was in it.
Mammoth weekender droogs. Thanks for the laughs. I am looking forward to seeing more Dungeon Saga.
You talked about the “time between quests” or “side adventures” These are a great opportunity to move out of the dungeon and say into a town and create a narrative for the group that lets you add a new item or spell to the inventory. Maybe join with an army on the march and fight in a KoW battle. I’m loving this.
As for building dungeons, i will be awaiting eagerly manorhouse workshop underground modular project. It’s basically what i need for dungeon crawler : rooms and doors easy to assemble with an underground / sewer feeling that puts you in the mood of exploring some deep below rooms (and not a fancy fairy castle :p)
It’s taken a while for the laughter to subside….
I’ve realised that I’ve been a bit of a “get to the end of the dungeon” sort of guy most of my playing life. Something has clicked, @warzan has put it in such a way that I can see how to get my son into this. It’s his imagination I’ve been trying to stimulate (he has a vivid one but only in a copycat style) and make things up in his head. DS looks like being the route.
Barney?! You want them to get into barney? Barney Fife from Andy Griffith? Or his namesakes from Half Life? Shame on you.
The Conan wargame had a mammoth and the ogres in Kings of War are supposed to be getting a mammoth figure.
I like probably all of you watch and re watch The Weekender and XLBS (being one of those who proudly helps keep the shows going) and I go through the archive and watch and watch. I’m wasting £100 a month on Sky as all I watch is BoW on my phone. This weekend has been f@#$/^g awesome..AWESOME. Really entertaining. Great to be part of this amazing special; albeit only a viewer.
Finally getting to see this, I think a regular Dungeon Crawling episode series would be really cool
Time to get the Fimir from Forge World!!!
Thx warren for sharing your love
Happy Sunday!!! Love the ideas of expansion, once I buy this game I may look into the Hirst cast molds to make my own 2.5 d dungeon.
So my wife walks past me watching and manages to catch only “I just want a child” an then as she double takes “….a child with a sword”….shakes head and walks away.
Jolly good fun!
Hirst Arts stuff is fantastic.
I was casting yesterday. And this morning I thought, that looks familiar.
Search for Hirst arts design derby and be wowed.
thanks for the show guys!
Loved the show, loved the combination between Dungeon Saga and an RPG, and LOVE the idea of a dungeon diving “battle report/ campaign”. @warzan add in the narrative, play when you can, and let the rest of us live vicariously through you all!
Great show guys! Acheson Creations is on the wrong side of the pond, but could be a good resource.

They do dinosaurs too!
Ok, so ‘A Dwarf, a Mammoth and Roger the Mammoth handler walk into a bar….’
Sigh…….dungeon crawlers………fond memories of me and my best mate getting our Ral Partha minis and setting up a domino dungeon……………..life was good.
Kind of surprised Warren never mentioned Advanced Hero Quest; is wasn’t a great game but still it was a dungeon crawler and is was released between Hero Quest and Warhammer Quest
Had a question, I normally watch this over AirPlay, but this episode will not play. Previous episodes still play.
I am a tech guy. Any ideas? Any plans to make any sort of streaming to internet connected devices such as roku or Fire TV?
Happy Sunday…. on Monday afternoon!
I always preferred 2.5d dungeon crawlers to full on RPG because it focused the attention of the players. Like @warzan I enjoyed adding RPG elements to the physical, and using the random elements to keep things interesting. Usually because I would have to be both DM and Wizard. No-one in mu groups ever wanted to be the Wizard…
can’t wait for this! now i just gotta find a cool group like you guys to play with. if only my brother were into this. And all i can think about is making my own 3D terrain how sweet would that be. the idea of having a building and then making our way down into the dungeon sounds so epic! great vid guys. Oh, and the dungeon crawler series would definitely be a great addition
It would be nice to see dungeon delving series with 4ground buildings too.
Dungeon Crawl show sounds excellent, have to get my kids into this
Great vid, guys!
must dig out my Heroquest from the attic and have a look again]
minis = tactile and tactical
Lovely show as always. I’d like to see you do a series of dungeon crawler games.
Roger!!!! hahaha LMAO
Enough with the Mammoth already! :p
You guys should really do a dungeon crawl series, the banter is hilarious! 😀
Happy Monday…sorry a day late!
I love the sound of what @warzan has done at home with the game, I’d love to see more details of that.
The look of disgust on Lloyd’s face when talking about D&D. Wow! If you haven’t tried it you should you might like it. Granted most of the “game” is in yours and the DM/GMs imagination. When D&D is done right it can be very immersive and a lot of fun. My experience is that Miniatures and Terrain are used to accentuate the story telling.
Great show guys. I can’t wait till my Dungeon Saga stuff comes. 🙂
I think the a monster manual for Dungeon Saga would be cool. I have the D&D board games which come with a ton of monsters. Plus I’ve been picking up Reaper Bones plastic monsters.
I can see me picking this up and converting old D&D campaigns for Dungeon Saga. With plans to take it outside the dungeon into the wilderness and urban locations.
Not sure if someone has already asked this in the above feed but I would love to see a hobby lab on resin casting. Thinking of purchasing some of the Hirst Art molds and would love some tips on how you have done it and what materials you used.
I fear Warren’s crevasse.
Great vids guys. I have been part of a group of role-players meeting weekly for the past 10 or so years. We have played D&D, WHFRP, D&D modern, M&M. We used models in D&D when encountering multiple monsters as it was easier to keep frack of who was where. As a stop gap between changing systems I ran WHQ using HeroQuest furniture a really looking forward to DS and companion expansion.
Age 56 going on 15.
So I gave in and have pre-ordered it. Can’t wait
Please, please, please do a dungeon crawl series. That would be amazing! I never thought I’d say it, but I wanna see Warzan’s Dark Crevice.
Happy Sunday – More Dungeon Saga!! Can’t wait for me KS to arrive in October.
Mantic had another hit on it’s hands.
thats a top idea Justin, think you need to come up with dwarf drinking songs
Right, conversion time: I’m off to make Justin the bald dwarf, riding into battle atop his noble steed, Barney the Mammoth.
Love the new Dungeon saga, but and this is no criticism of Mantic, I think we might use WHFRP ver 2.0 as the game mechanic with the mantic adventures, (bit of tweaking may be needed, but as a long time GM / DM that’s no problem) as it gives a bit more of an rpg, at least until the adventurers add-on comes out, but we will use the mantic rules to bring the grandkids in to the hobby. keep up the good work guys.
Happy Sunday
There are a couple of guys on youtube (The DMG info & the DM’s Craft, they have tutorials on how to build 2.5D dungeons from, card, matchsticks, lollysticks and polystyrene, pretty good too.
The more i see of this fantastic game the more i would like to have it. The fact that you will be able to create you’re own party (with the add-on) makes the game so much more better, being able to use those models that we all have that are so very cool. this game pushes so many of the right buttons for me, i love the look, the simple play rules, it;s just a book (box) full of rpg goodness. i would love to have a copy of this game.
Dungeon Saga looks awesome!
You have to teach your kids to loose gracefully or you are not preparing them for the future…so you should taunt her with out mercy when you win as well
It looks like a fun game with nice miniatures, but I do agree with adding more diverse spells to add more flavor to the game.
Hi Guys, thanks for the weekend, loved it. Me and a friend, at the moment converting my Dungeon Saga set for our 2 six year old daughters. Miniature wise, I’ve bought a set of adventurers from Dark Sword, animal adventurers are cute and the girls love them. The baddies are the Dark Sword Frog range. The adventurers turn the frogs back to puddles of frog spawn, instead of bones! The adventure is called ‘The Cellars of Lillypad….or Toads in the Hole’….I’ll share when we sit down for the first session in the next few weeks,
Happy delving….Si
nice show guys, love the flooring.
This is the big weak and strong point for the game easy to lear for a 4yo Player but maybe a veteran Player Will upset for that i mean ok you can learn it without reading any rulebook, comparing with the heroquest hq25 or imperial assault (lots of things to do and learn about each character and ítem) is much more a plain game, but not bad at all, just mentioning it!
I would love to see Mantic do some plastic dungeon terrain. I was really sad that the Maki / Manorhouse Workshop plastic dungeon terrain Kickstarter was cancelled – it looked just perfect for this kind of thing: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rolljordan/modular-underground-project/description @warzan you should have a look at it and keep an eye out for if/when it comes back – hopefully pretty soon.
I’d be interested in seeing a games mastered dungeon delving series following you guys, as long as it’s a custom scenario. I don’t want you to ‘spoil’ the commercially available scenarios by doing them before I’ve been able to!
Great job once again guys! I am so excited for DS to show up now, and I cannot wait for all of the expansions that Ronnie and the guys/gals at Mantic have in store for us.
Ah, I could not make up a good excuse so far to get my that awsome tavern. I was sad but on the other side happy to save the money. i almost forgot about it and now this. Now I have to get it. Damn you!
The Tavern as startig point for the adventures, as HQ for rearm and fill up resources before entering the dungeons again. My girl is going to kill me 😉
You have to do the dungeon crawler show!
What about a dwarves sons of anarchy mammoth rider gang ?
@dignity Justin, you may need to look to the game Brewhouse Bash (produced by GW way back when) for some more inspiration. We had some fun with it during our gorkamorka campaigns.
Cain’t wait to watch you guys get into Warzan’s crevice 😛
