Happy Sunday!
Welcome back Warzan 😉
don’t know when you filmed this but would have thought FFG new scalable rank and file runewar game would suggest a move away from self contained game in a box attitude to a more collectable hobby based attitude from one of the biggest players in the industry and is probably the main reason for no more gw licensed games .has this will be direct competition for aos and that can only be bad news for gw because the next logical step would be a sci-fi based tabletop game Anyone up for a 28mm licensed star wars or halo I know I would be
Came out after filming 🙂
Remember a 100m company built on the 40k business modal, so there is somthing to it, but thats not where we have seen the most growth over the last year or two 🙂
Ultimately it boils down to generalising a bit, but accessible products in theory will out perform non accessible ones at greater market scales (generally)
Probably miles off the mark but I don’t see ffg’s foray into tabletop fantasy as anything more than a me too exercise, possibly to test out supply chain before doing a star wars game. Wonder if they do that if the minis would be pre painted?
As for competition to AoS other than being fantasy I don’t see it, its like saying krull is competition to lotr. Sure if you only look at it as a proliferation of rulesets, but AoS does have 30+ years of community, sure the fluff days the old world is no more but people have been in that universe for decades and as such AoS/Warhammer is much bigger than the game. (know the game is set in ffgs fantasy universe but that’s not exactly well known in terms of tabletop by definition of this being their first :P)
I think that part of the growth in the gaming world has been down to people being brought into games ready to play oob, this works really well to bring in new players to our community.
Also it is having another curious effect i have noticed, the older generation of Historical gamer is being drawn into the whole thing by FFG there are guys who when i first met them would not have looked twice at a sci-fi game but are now hooked on x-wing because they find it easy and dont have to spend ages painting.
“would have thought FFG new scalable rank and file runewar game would suggest a move away from self contained game in a box attitude to a more collectable hobby based attitude”
There isn’t really anything new in RuneWars that FFG haven’t done before in terms of how they distribute the game. There’s obviously X-Wing and Armada, though this looks to be very much like Imperial Assault. You buy a big boardgame-esque box with all the minis, tokens, dials, and dice you get in a FFG game. You expand on it with medium box, small box, and individual mini packs. You can paint the minis if you want but don’t have to, and some of the larger minis need to be glued together. Where it differs, is that isn’t played on a board, and it isn’t a stealth minis game hidden in a boardgame.
I don’t think Warren meant ‘one-and-done’ when talked about games being accessible off the shelf (though I don’t wish to put words in his mouth). I think he meant you buy one big box and are playing the game almost immediately. You don’t have to buy several products to get started, and a lot of time on prep. You open the box, read the rules, assemble a couple of things, and you’re good to go an hour after opening. Then, FFG will drop an boxed expansion every so often, you buy that as a bolt-on and keep going. Pretty much how IA plays.
“Probably miles off the mark but I don’t see ffg’s foray into tabletop fantasy as anything more than a me too exercise, possibly to test out supply chain before doing a star wars game. Wonder if they do that if the minis would be pre painted?”
If they were using RuneWars as a dry-run for Star Wars, which would make a lot of sense, it wouldn’t make much sense for RuneWars to not be PPP and Star Wars to be PPP. That’s one of the areas you would want to nail down with RuneWars so you got it right for the launch of Star Wars if that’s the route you were wanting to go down.
I really cant say whether its is a dry run for star wars or not… except that Runewars is Fantasy Flights in house IP and take a look at the interlocking movement trays if this was a proof of concept pitch (the most likely scenario) why would they go through the process of making plastic movement trays? I can’t imagine star wars would have them. Rank and file doesn’t lend itself to sci fi very well at all. If it were a dry run or proof of concept ANDROID would be a better fit, no rank and file and similar mechanics. Additionally, Cyberpunk is relatively underrepresented in the miniatures market, with HINT and kind of Infinity being to only examples. also they could do fewer model which of course would lower entry cost.
The dry run would be more along lines of manufacture, distribution, and reception, rather than gameplay.
@redben for me it makes sense that they would treat PPP as a separate thing entirely if nothing else for the decades of PPP starwars toys that exist, no idea who they contract to do the painting for X-Wing, but i wouldnt be surprised if they dont have a heritage in producing kids toys, so there is going to be a massive difference to the volumes in the IP lines. As such i would expect that anything starwars they produce has at least 3 extra zero’s added to the quantity so the cost of tooling and training the workforce in the paint scheme, is justified plus disney would probably insist on it in the license as to my jaded mind its the toy royalties are what made them splurge on star wars in the first place.
in the interview the guy from fantasy flight was saying if you wanted to get into the hobby side you have that through building and painting, so my guess is they won’t be pre paints.
RuneWars definitely isn’t PPP. I’m interested to see if the factions come in different colour plastic.
I think it’s a smart move by FFG to get to the miniature/hobby game market with something not as big as Star Wars first. Fantasy rank and file is the obvious “void” in the market so why not go with that. There’s testing of the supply chain like you wrote, but also the whole marketing side and seeing what the gamers expect in terms of product quality, do they need to sell terrain and hobby/paint kits, etc.
@redben the minis will not be different colours, I specifically asked that if the idea was to get them on the table as soon as possible. They may change their tune when they go to actual launch.
Halo Ground, Battle for Reach, SPARTAN GAMES. 28 mm Halo game, expandable. You ask, you receive.
halo ground battles is unfortunatley 15mm scale while very nicely done and looking like a great game its not the mass market breaker 28mm might have been
Really l9king the Konflikt 47 gear. It’s got a WWII meets 40k IG feel about it. Looking forward to the unboxing
Even if I don’t win the competition I’ll be getting a hold of a set of the US starter set for Konflict ’47. I think that weird world war is going to be really big over the next few months!
LOL Meet this bollack with legs up my dungeon… WELCOME BACK WARZAN!
Welcome back Warren, I am really happy to see you back on the show.
I really like the look of Konflikt 47, I also like the fact that I can use my existing Bolt Action minis and just add one or two “weird” items to try the game with a difference. I wish more game systems would let you combine systems like this, in fact I wish Dust could have tied into this same system.
I would love to win two starter sets to get my girlfriends brothers away from the virtual gaming, and into the table top world!
im 12 mins in and the guys still haven’t noticed Ben lol
My fault lol 🙂
Everyone was busy with warlord or gencon etc, they hand me a running order and say ‘here make yourself useful and think about xlbs’
May as well have just trown a grenade lol, my eyes light up and off i go like a bull in a china shop getting excited about stuff, and of course meandering through stuff not even on the running order lol
It’s all good haha – but thanks for noticing toshkien!
Konflict’47 does look a lot of fun, saw some pics of the box contents and it does look like a nice starter set, look forward to seeing some gameplay reviews
On dino zoo, ive found some ‘to scale’ little buggy things like worker golf buggies with a open box on the back.
Gonna get some today for zoo staff to use for a speed boost 🙂
@warzan you get to the Viking museum in Dublin?
so how is the game called? Mannypark 🙂 Just checked this xlbs out, I realy enjoyed the dino and meat story 🙂
Konflikt ’47 looks interesting. Weird war stuff is cool. I’m looking forward to this, as well as Bolt Action 2E. Really great that they are compatible with each other and that the various BA theater, army books, and miniatures are fully usable with Konflikt ’47. Very nice. Great going Warlord!
Welcome back Warren. Disappointing show this morning
With eager anticipation I hit the play button waiting to see and hear Lloyd’s eagerly awaited presentation in regards to John Ramsbottom’s displacement lubricator and it’s role in armoured train warfare between 1925 and 1943
Sadly it was not to be
My weekend is ruined
Lol
Probably not the most grognard friendly show this time lol 😉 (except for us industry bean counter type grognards lol)
Maybe Lloyd could do it as a backstage Vlog or maybe just release a PDF of the transcript
Konflikt 47 does interest me so I’m eager for more info.
Welcome back Warren, you always put the Wee in weekender.
Konflict 47 seems to be a -for me- better Bolt Action as I’ve got some problems to play real WW2 games. So I’d love to win this set for being able to play some weird war which is fantasy enough for me not to have moral issues with!
Oh the irony, Warhammer Total War, great success but based on an IP that doesn’t exist anymore.
It pays GW the same either way lol
Happy Sunday … peeps i have to say that i know what Justin means about kingdom death mini’s they are amazing, but its not the sculpts but the paint jobs that are coming out for them that are scaring me…lol
Konflict 47 is an interesting concept especially the origins story i recently watched the first series of Manhattan which is all about the American development of the bombs could be some interesting stuff given the ideas that were flying about in reality
GHQ do some nice 1947 stuff in 6mm but it less pulp Sci-fi than the Warlord game seems to be. I have heard rumours of H&R doing something along these lines as well
Nooooooooooo i have to many other things…..lol
Welcome back Warren. I was going to comment that you had finally taken flight to star in the Wargaming movie, but first, the background gave it away that you shot it in the office and then, Lloyd came on at the end, showing a little gray (maybe it was the lighting or maybe some over spray of paint).
Remember, guys, all dinosaurs all the time. Live up to the name BEASTS of War. Make up a poster with Manny riding on a T-Rex for the next Sharknado-like movie for the SyFy channel, Dinosaurs vs. Irishmen. General Justin could lead the defense with John being the plucky tank commander.
One of the best uses of Dyson-sphere type technologies? Peter F Hamilton’s extended series set in the Commonwealth. He’s used some of these ideas in other books but he delves into what being able to build stellar contstructs like Dyson Sphere’s would mean for a cultures psyche and evolution (he plays around with the concept of the Singularity as well. Quite a bit of stuff for Infinity fans to likel…)
Ohh go on and give us an example please mate!!!
Harnessing that kind of power must open incredible possibilities.
@warzan quite a few dyson spheres in neil ashers polity universe, mainly used for firing moons at adamantium laser crabs (prador) through sub space as well as powering an infinity style human expansion (although controlled by ai’s) prador moon is a pretty good hopping on point to the series
The first book (Pandoras Star) is based around the notion that an Astronomy professor sees a star blink out suddenly. Turns out it was enclosed by a shield generated by a station on the edge of the system. There’s a culture in the later books that has weaponised entire star systems, encircling them with Dyson Sphere’s to power galactic level weaponry, all intended to form a cordon around the void at the center of our galaxy that periodically increases in size.
There’s also lots of great stuff with wormhole tech that caused us to bypass conventional space travel so most transit between planets is done via trains. There is an AI that people download themselves to that has become a power in it’s own right. Humanity has mastered the art of rejuvenation, resetting your body to it’s late teens so pensions are used to fund those instead of retirement. Most people are fitted with a chip that begins recording personality data that allows them to be reborn into a cloned body of they are killed and then either the chip fitted or a backup copy downloaded. And that’s just a fraction of the first book. I could go on but needless to say Hamilton has written some of my favourite SF of the modern era.
Alistair Reynolds has some similarly big ideas. Hell, one of his books (the House of Sun I think?) starts with a family whose trade is in building Dyson Spheres and stellar engineering. Then again, that might be one of the most post-humany post-human books I’ve read….
Dyson sphere’s are a fascinating technology though. The scales and resources involved are mind breaking, but the potential benefits….
Dyson. Sphere?….Is that about a vacuum cleaners
its the dyson wheel barrows with the orange ball wheels?
you cover a star with solar panels pointing in, completely enclosing it to harness all of its energy. The main logical flaw with it is that it would take so much energy and resources to do that any civilization capable of doing so would pretty much never have to.
Spot on!
Thanks for the show, entertaining as always. Just wanted to say that the quality of the content of late has really been a cut above (maybe due to the benefits of the studio redesign flowing through??). Everything just seems to have that little bit extra. Also, really loving the hobby lab scatter terrain challenge, really inspired idea and a great way to encourage our community to show off their ideas.
Keep up the good work team!
Happy Sunday!
That guy in the intro – you should get him on the show sometime…
… Oh he is! 😉
You want weird world wars? Very much looking forward to what Wyrd are slowly revealing about “The Other Side”, their ‘more mass’ battle game where things from the Malifaux world crosses back over the Breach to invade our world. Check out the BoW Gencon Wyrd video (Day 2?) for some more tease.
Just because we can’t think of a good reason aliens might attack doesn’t mean they can’t. Until we actually meet aliens pretty much everything we hypothesize about their motivations is just uninformed fiction.
I am reasonably certain that humans will attack any alien civilizations that we think we can beat and that might be a threat to us. Also, quite a few of our religions are centered on the premise that humans are special and have a divine right to take/destroy what ever we like. There is also the fact alien life would contradict a lot of religions origin stories so I wouldn’t be surprised if we launch a holy war to wipe out any trace of extra terrestrial sources of life. I guess Halo sort of covered that premise though…
Also, found a great set of bits (on Tumblr of all things) that raised some points about how alien races might see Humanity:
#Homo Sapiens is utterly unique within the biosphere for our capacity to survive injury that. to any other species, would be potentially life threatening. Break bones and in all bar the most serious cases we heal and are at least functional remarkably quickly. Pain thresholds are noticably higher, and we can survive the loss of multiple limbs as well as massive amounts of soft tissue damage. Our stamina is so remarkable yet we take it for granted: there is evidence that our ancestors became the apex species on the planet as we could outlast the animals we hunted, causing smaller injuries and tracking them as they fled until they had bled out. To an alien species observing us we’d be the frikking Terminator (Oh, not counting the fact we implant metal in our bodies for decoration and scarify ourselves with tatoos. Stuff The Terminator, we’re bloody Orks…)
#We breath oxygen. It’s the most fundamental element we need to survive. What if oxygen based life is an anomaly? We know that in certain mixtures it can produce dangerous compounds and can be dangerously toxic. Imagine a race for whom our biome would be toxic, they’d take one look and call us “Death-Breathers”….
Yeah that comes up in one of the episodes of Enterprise the last of the TV shows, they come to a world which is on the brink of WWII except “ALIEN” WWII and when they are examined they find that we have iron in our blood, and they say how can that be, that’s toxic. Little stuff like that is fun.
Warren, You can call you Dino game, Saurus Safari! Sounds like a cute game and good fun for you and your boy.
Beasts of warasaur
that sounds like its from Poland…lol
Not enough sz, cz, and rz combos in it to the Polish
Oh that is criminal that you had no thumbs up for that here take mine.
I’m no high-end painter but sometimes I need to use fancier techniques than I’m used to. For that I have a bunch of Night Goblins I practise on. They give me a bit of freedom to have a go at, say, freehand or blending before risking a mini I’ve already spent time on.
@warzan I have to see if I can find the D100 I had from my RPG days, it was a pain to use as it was almost a ball.
Welcome back and happy Sunday
not as bad as the d120, which is like rolling a golf ball and then trying to read a number off a dimple.
Same thing just 20 less dimples
Some interesting stuff being painted at the moment. I really like the artillery piece, especially as an ex-gunner. Painting has been the part of the hobby I’ve been jumping into more in recent months. I’m considering doing mini dioramas with my artillery pieces for Napoleonics. My next project will Chaos war band for Sigmar, though I plan to convert a lot of it.
My major problem at the moment, is finding time and space, my in-laws are over for my pending wedding. So space and time has become an issue…lol
Love the giant spider and thank you to Dawn and Gianna for being at at Gen Con 2016.Reporting on some amazing cool stuff. Did not know that there will be a Cthulhu Pandemic coming out Can’t wait to buy a Copy!!
i dont think a 40k movie is viable theres too much backstory, best would be a series like netfix has done for marvel one following an inquisitor, another would be an arbite or possibly a techpriest build up the world with human layers that are relatable ,one of the flaws of the spacemarine movie was they didnt have character just lots of noble sounding that felt somewhat robotic
I stand by my line of thinking that Warhammer/40k would work best as drawn animation, maybe with a bit of an anime vibe to it for the over the top nature of the games @dekinrie – do you think that might work in a shorter TV style format?
Welcome back Warren my Sunday is now complete :o) I have missed your form of Justin bashing, Hilarious!!! :oP. If you like more human like orcs check out Atlantis Miniatures… Cannot wait for Konflikt 47 I think some of the guys who I game with are going to have a fit when I roll this out..
Atlantis Miniatures do make some excellent Orcs – will have to check out what they’ve been doing lately
Happy Sunday guys. love the comments about not being afraid to paint minis that’s one of my troubles. I have some Infinity minis and just don’t want to spoil them. they just sit there primed. well its time to give them a go.
Thanks again chaps to another wonderful show as i build my Kingdom of Men army from Perry’s War of the Roses minis.
Konflict 47 sounds such an interesting idea and from what you chaps have said about how it has happened, the background and such plus it also means that you can use your BA armies its a winner. Looking forward to see this develop
I am really looking forward to Star Trek Ascendency now.
Konfikt ’47 looks promising as well and do like the background story with the two rifts and the Soviets fighting everybody. This will make a few great scenarios methinks…
@warzan
I think you need a Konflikt ’47 Fallschirmjäger army now matching the BA FJs! 😎 😎
oh @dignity … a Star Trek fan who doesn’t know about Dyson spheres???
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relics_(Star_Trek:_The_Next_Generation)
Reasons aliens might declare war:
Earth used to belong to them and they want it back
Intergalactic civilization fell and they lost their ability to selfh sustain and now just take from other
Some alien races could be dicks
Earth is a giant farm for creatures that think on a different time scale and see us a no more intelligent than we see cows.
Dropzone Scourge type creatures that need new hosts
Intergalactic war forcing a retreating army to takeover and hide on earth / use us as a strategic location
Aliens are so vastly different to us that they don’t recognise us as life and crush as before they even notice us.
I hope Konflict 47 sells adaption kits for those who already have tanks, and it resolves the bolt ation issue where you can bring lists that cant actually damage some enemy stuff. I’ve played tank heavy Bolt Action games vs some heavily armoured german stuff and there are issues there.
You know if I could get driven over to the BoW studios I would show you how to play Kingdom Death with my painted minis.
Lets do it.
Reach out to justin and well try to organise it 🙂
I want to see that 😀
Yeah I will email and then we can see when we can sort it out
Happy Sunday! Really like the look of Konflikt 47 especially as you can use your existing Bolt Action stuff!
If Jystin is such a big Star Trek fan I can’t believe he didn’t know what a Dyson Sphere was! Has he not seem the Next Gen episode Relics???
Ok – so here’s the thing – looking to divorce my husband (@benc) who will ONLY play historically accurate World War II; to get together with someone who will play Weird World War…anyone? Just me? I’ll get my coat….
Happy Sunday
Welcome back Warren
Thank you for the shout out, painting is always more fulfilling when others enjoy your work. There are so many talented painters on this site, many of them in WAYPN so real honour to get selected for community painting picks for a second time. You would be interested to know that the pieces used in the conversion; head, chest plate, gun, shin pads, and jet exhaust are all 3D printed.
Konflikt 47 looks fantastic, I play Finnish in Bolt Action so am really interested to know where they fit in. Because of course they swapped sides from the Axis to the Allies, so I am guessing they get German tanks, and then Allies mechs maybe. Either way, excited to see what I can do with them
Any another great show, have a great week
Finns get battered by Russians in Konflikt, but initially ally with them rather than the allies.
It is awesome seeing them talk about us on the backstage that is for sure 😀 I still want bigger pictures of your stuff :'( So I can do a bit more of a deep dive. I have been meaning to do a recording all of this weekend but I had an old friend over, and a project to do… but there is painting too.
great show could you tell me if clock work goblin and warlord will be releasing the 15mm sculpts of konflict 47 that i saw at shows the last couple of years
Loved the show, I think the enthusiasm of Warren is infectious, and clearly makes the various topics not just interesting but informative too. He so much reminds me of me, cos when i am with are group of players, talking and playing, I often just ramble on, and on. 🙂
Keep it up guys, well worth the subscription. I look forward to more of the same humour and gaming trivia next week. This is my fist post ever on your shows, and just wanted to thank you for the many hours of entertainment you’ve given me.
Nice to see Lloyd and Warren being interviewed for a change instead of doing the interviewing. It’s interesting to hear about how you guys got started and leave me hungry to know more…
I’m looking forward to Konflict 47, I just hope it has benefited from the Bolt Action 2 rules cleanups! I might get the book just for a good read.
re-usability of BA minis is a huge plus
And I want to see what they do with Fireflys
Happy Sunday. Welcome back @warzan . I wonder if GW ends it’s relationship with Fantasy Flight whether that would be the end of the IPs in the market such as 40k Relic. Or if they would negotiate to keep some of the more profitable in production by GW. If they throw down the large my idea axe they could leave a good few people very pissed.
I’ve never been much into weird world war games per se, since he actual history is interesting enough as it is. But after some thinking, I may actually turn around on the idea since most(if not all) of my friends prefer some sort of fantasy/sci-fi gaming. And with something like Konflikt ’47 I could simultaneously collect WWII minis, but also try and bring my friends into a game that provides a middle ground between their tastes for the unreal and my need for history.
Also, olive drab mecha really just turn me on.
@doctorether
@warzan
That would be fantastic!
The problem with all the simplification and plasticisation and reduction of rules to a Monopoly or Cluedo level ruleset is taking away from everything that got me started into 40K back in the 80. The models, whilst still great, have lost their character in favour of extreme detail and heroic, often unrealistic or impossible, poses. More seals and more skulls seems to equate to a better model these days. I much prefer working with metal models, I love reading and re-reading rulebooks to try and get the most out of a game. I love waiting to see what is released for my faction/army next. This whole move to contained, simplified box sets really puts me off, particularly since I pay twice as much by living in Australia. Seriously, the Silver Tower game is $265 vs $170 AUD in England or $196 AUD In America.
Love the massive spider thingy but not delving your dungeon to find one…
loving the idea of konflict 47…..as a commission painter it would be nice to do something a little different now and again than run of the mill 28mm ww2 bolt action …..but am wondering at the end of ww2 the germans where looking at huge tanks ….maus etc …..will there be rules in game to do similar 47 style ? ….ie baneblade or bigger ww2 / 47 nd supertanks or land fortresses …..would like to do one or two of those
Interesting piece by Lloyd at the end.
Sleeping under a desk sounds uncomfortable.
Conflict 47 looks good, love the walkers.
Dayson sphere stuff is always interesting and keeping the Star Trek theme going, the orcs look like Klingons. I kept hearing “there’s Klingons on the starboard bow” in my head.
‘I’m sure Adam would, perhaps, agree with me here. the moment you bought it you’re not to think about the work he put into it’ —
Umm, literally every base (well base ‘cover’) has I heart Poots moulded into it 😉
I really like the Norsgard Orc’s. They definitely look more Elder Scroll than Warcraft, which is much more my style over the Warcraft looking Orcs from GW.
Aye its sort of a mix of the two @martley – they have some of the look of the likes of Gul’Dan from Warcraft but with the more realistic look of the Elder Scrolls Orcs
Konflikt ’47 s looking nice
Pol Pot? New game called Genocide??? I could see the gears grinding in Jason’s head
Happy Sunday!
I’m really looking forward to more Konflikt 47 content.
Nowadays I play more skirmish games like Malifaux, Infinity or Frostgrave. But I keep being attracted to bigger scale games. Still have most of my Ghar unpainted. Oh well, with Konflikt I’ll be able to use my painted Bolt Action Germans…. With werewolves!!
Really looking forward to Konflikt ’47, it’ll give my the opportunity to get some crazy Russian stuff ^^ Stalin in a mech maybe? :p
need to unpack my bolt action models
We did after the show – and then tidied up and rearranged the games room…
Great show today, always enjoy the painting tutorials & seeing what other way more talented painters can do. Probably will give Konflict 47 a go – though it seems a bit strange to bring out a game that uses the 1st edition rules just before the 2nd edition is released. Though I do like the fact that the weirdness factor is left up to you – I also especially liked the panzer iv that was on the show the fact it’s two vehicles in one – standard H/J or weird version both of which can be built from the same kit. I hope this continues with the other more “mundane” pieces of kit – separate turrets or even just plug in & out guns like they are on the Antares skimmer, failing that just releasing the new components on there own so that you can upgrade your armies without having to purchase complete kits.
@warzan
In case you don’t know what the testicle on legs is, it’s Spidicules one of the expansions for Kingdom Death Monster
Really like the look of konflict 47′ the German spider tanks are lush.
@warzan with all this dinosaur talk I’m surprised you went pigs, get some T. rex and raptors in there 🙂
A Happy Sunday afternoon. Another great show guys. Warren you have to read Larry Nivans Ring World series of books about an alien culture that has built two rings around a star the inner ring controls day and night for the larger ring which has the world on the inside facing the star with no roof. Also do you know if they will be bringing out British commonwealth and Russian starter sets for Konflict ’47 and do you think as well if there will be a Borg and Domion factions for the Star Trek game?
The whole alien part not attacking us is bid difficult to predict. You do not know what aliens are, they may not even be visible to us and the way life on earth is build up may not be the blueprint for all life. Maybe we are just a small dust on a cloak of a huge alien lifeform. Maybe there is alien life already on earth but we can’t detect it. Maybe they are build up from a certain energy that we can’t detect. There is so much to think about what makes it fun to do. With that in mind you can build up a scenario for konflict 47′ maybe an alien race has send all this tech so that we can destroy our self and when the time is right the will invade and have no problem dealing with the destroyed nations!
Ah, my weird war fetish gets another set of rules (Have Acthung Cthuhlu, AE-WWII, Dust, Gear Krieg, Secrets of the Third Reich and various RPG rules/settings). Already have the book, but have loads of 15/18mm Clockwork Goblin (and DP9 Gear Krieg) so that is the rules of choice.
Liking Konflikt’s background and design for the ‘weird’ stuff, and the ‘lack’ of magic (though I do have a soft spot for Black Sun forces), with things being science based. Just one thing – why oh why does everything have to have Zombies ? (not really an issue, just won’t field them).
And no upgraded Command elements in the force lists (so you can’t do a pure Heavy Armour/Rift-Tech force as you need command squad/group – already working on house rules for that, Shocktroops appear to cost 3pts more than regular veterans (German), so additional points to command squad should do the trick. Unless they bring out ‘Konflikt Sourcebooks’ – first supplement, which should include Japan, has already been mentioned.)
I just think it’s funny that Justin (@dignity) spoiled manny’s likes before Waren (@warzan) could hit that punchline.
I like the idea of getting your son into D&D, unfortunately not dungeons and dragons it’s more Dino’s and Dilemmas. I suppose the dino’s could evolve into dragons or lizardmen and then you can progress to other games.
In the mean time what do the dino’s do for leisure, perhaps some dino races, Think wacky races with dinos or dino challenges where dino’s can team up and compete in Olympics style stuff (that’s pretty relevant to now).
anyway, just have fun.
Norsgard’s Orcs, I have a few of the first ones they came out with – the make great Nosferatus
Oh nice!…I love the weird world war theme!…and combined with Bolt Action is just lovely. I need to try that dice determining unit activation mechanic. Love the idea of the scientists putting a new turret with a new weapon on a known chassis…thats the way to do it!
And a good thing with the Rifts and the storyline behind the War dragging on! Im going to include some of the minis from Achtung Cthulhu and merge the weird technology and the secret covens of Nazi Occultism with a H. p. lovecraftian twist!!! Order of the Black Sun have emerged!
The Norsgaard Orcs just reminds me of the roleplay game called Earth Dawn whee the concept art of Orcs and Trolls is very similiar to these minis.
Either we are alone in the Universe OR we are not alone – both is equally frightning!
Happy Sunday
Lasse
Ha ha ha, who’s that bloke in the introductory clip from the Mini Wargaming Film? I think I recognise him from somewhere… Any idea @warzan ?
…And, now I’ve got to the end of the show, there’s someone else who looks vaguely familiar too! @lloyd !
Rune wars Miniatures games was announced from Fantasy Flight Games… It’s no Star Wars, But this is HUGE.news, and maybe an affirmation about Warren’s theory of the split between Workshop and FF.
FFG knows the tournament scene .. So yea this is going to be awesome.
Btw.. You need to check out the v2 of Mansions of Madness
Konflikt 47 looks good to me. I Like it that I can use the army’s that I already have from warlord
For this. With a minimum investment you can play another game! I’m wondering if warlord are gona build the US and German forces first, or if they will release starter-sets for other factions first. Anyway it would be nice to win these starter sets to get me started with Konflikt 47. I would give the US set to my friend, and keep the German set for myself, but it would be a nice way to get someone else involved in weird world war games as well. Maybe even incorporate some of my old Dust equipment in this game in the future.
Keep up the good work and looking forward to the unboxings and Demo games of Konflikt 47!
Oh I do hope FFG will get into a full star wars miniature game. That would make it so much easier to get my boys hooked.
The eldest one (9 this month) is already asking about getting his own star wars mini’s to paint.
Happy Sunday!
Welcome Back Warzan.
Konflikt’ 47 is looking very interesting cant wait to see more of the Russian, Japanese and especially what the British forces.
A Dyson Sphere and similar steller-scale megastructures are potentially, the products of a Type 2 Civilisation on the Kardashev Scale ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kardashev_scale ) present day Earth is roughly between 0.5 & 0.75 on that scale.
@warzan I love your editorializing on the state of the industry. Bizarrely enough it was these sections of the weekender that convinced me to join backstage in the first place. Instead of making it a random off topic ramble you should plan it into the weekenders on a fortnightly or monthly basis. That would be epic.
Well Konflict 47 seems like a sure fire way to get suckered into WW2 historical stuff! I’ve done my best to keep my nose clean on that front but I like the whole weird world war thing and although Dust is back, I’m liking the cross-over of Konflict 47…. Hmm! Damn you BoW and damn my lack of willpower….!!!
on the weird war front is a comic called uber with enhanced humans rather than tech not pulp superheroes but replicateable weaponised humans quite mature with views from both sides
What’s GenCon short for? Presumably not Geneva Convention
That’s exactly what it’s short for :). The early shows were held at Lake Geneva in Wisconsin.
Im looking forward to Konflikt 47, I was tempted by Dust before starting bolt action but when i saw and heard of what was going on i left it alone, now it seems i can have the best of both worlds. Fingers crossed the resin turrets will be available separately so i can just up date my Panzer 4. I would have thought that the rules would be updated to coincide with Bolt Action 2.0 instead of the original rules? Either way im a happy camper. Now i can have Undead Zombie corps…….
Struggling to choose between konflict 47 starter and bolt action 2
Now I dont just want Konflict 47… now I want Dinobots in Konflict 47…
Great video again guys, thanks.
I like hearing about the new stuff and your opinions on everything, but this week, the community painting picks was by far the best segment for me. I really love painting, although I’m not especially good at it, and seeing what people accomplish with models inspires me so much when I’m struggling to find time for things or just having a bad day.
That showed some beautiful work from the community there, really enjoyed it.
I really like the direction companies are going in with where I can buy a single box. I’m not a huge gamer buy the likes of imperial assault and tanks by gf9 have really drawn me in.
Konflikt ’47 is really drawing me in, I am keen on starting Boltaction and Konflikt ’47 is tipping balance and really getting me excited about.
Hi Guys,
Thet was another afternoon well spend painting away and enjoying listening to you guys going off on a tangent.
Well done!
Cheers,
https://imgflip.com/i/18kkjc
oh boy, how I want this, I never won a thing here I’m ready to change that.. Happy Sunday everyone..
I note there is a dinosaur wargame with figures and rules
http://www.magistermilitum.com/rule-system/dinomight/dinomight-rules-v2-5-download.html
And they even have mammoths …..
I’d not been very interested in Konflict 47, or most of the other Weird War games because while there are some really cool bits in there, there are also always miniatures or elements of the story that really break the illusion for me.
The change came with the Achtung! Cthulu miniatures game, which appears to combine WWII with call Cthulhu bits and not very much else, and I can see myself playing that kind of game even if I ignore the official story.
Which brings me to Konflict 47 and the Bolt Action rules. I’ll give Achtung! Cthulu a try, but if K47 makes it easy to entegrate Weird War stuff into a Bolt Action game, I should clearly have a look at this too.
Great show as usual. thanks.
I wonder if the GF9game mat does not restrict the game sizewise. I guess it is great for most games but if you want to play this really epic game, it might bee too small and a generic bigger game mat might be preferable. Also, I was not too happy with the GF9 Firefly game mat. The material is rather thin and I was expecting something thicker and more durable.
I always love talking about the business side of the industry. Who owns who and what licenses are being bought for what type of gaming is a lovely web to pick at.
Asmodee is large enough now and has a reputation for listing to their customers and offering a finished product that can grow new fans rather than scare off the current base. In North America at least, FFG (Asmodee) has a better connection to the customer and a larger marketshare overall. How long before Asmodee make a bid to buy GW and Citadel?
Keep an eye on the News & Rumours part of the forum. It’s where the business posts go up 🙂
First, holy crap that Konflikt 47 looks amazing. Big Dust fan and I might finally have to jump into Bolt Action. This would even make me want to pick up some ‘regular’ army units for Bolt Action. My bank account will be destroyed. Really like the how rifts created this new alt universe but the old gear is still viable.
The discussion of Fantasy Flight and Games Workshop. Personally I think the board game and any miniatures are probably gone. What I see staying is the cards games and maybe the RPG. GW might not have the infrastructure yet for card games and RPG’s. This would give them the time to ramp those up and to continue to get licensees cash.
Space Maps. Make the Dyson’s Sphere, but make it with multiple energy collectors. That way you can put it anywhere on the map. Maybe the factions are fighting over control on these energy collectors or even have these weaponized. Weaponized could attack either faction, have factions take control of them, or just have a faction pay points to control one on the game board.
Nice show guys, but who are those men at the begin and end, are they famous in the minature world ??
Kon47 looks realy nice , and i loved the bit about dino farming, what i missed warren the last 2 weeks, so funny how his crazy mind works.
ps justin, very nice shirt dude.
Genuinely pleased to see you back @warzan. And looking relaxed and cheery too, huzzah. I’ve missed my regular dose of “It’s your hobby and you get the most out of it your way.” Sometimes it’s hard to remind ones self of that. Funny how the word accessibility was used for smaller contained games, but it was exactly what I was thinking watching the Konfluct 47 talk. I’ve never been remotely interested in weird war but somehow this has really ticked a box and I think it’s for the same reason you all gave. Been planning a What If Patton kept going scenario with just Bolt Action rules but K47 is screaming for that too be done. An IS3 and/or Pershing tank war army anyone?
I have some friends that play Bolt Action. I have not gotten into it yet, so Konflict ’47 might be a fun way in.i like weird.
I like the way Konflict joins up with the bolt action and started geeking about it to the wife. She actually showed interest in a minis game for the first time. Wow, the world is changing. I need to go see if the four horsemen are riding down the street now. Good show guys.
Such exciting times to be a tabletop gamer. Both the old hands and new bloods looking to innovate and push the hobby forward can only mean great things ahead. GW is far better off looking to the video game industry then movies. It’s been the fastest growing form of entertainment now for close to a decade. The movie industry still hasn’t found that sweet spot for converting popular video gaming franchises into blockbusters.
In my opinion if they were going to do any movie they would best be setting it just before the Horus Heresy. Show the events leading up that cataclysm. Show the great irony in the Emperor wanting mankind’s future to lay within the realms of science and knowledge not religious fanaticism and dogma.
oh wow Konflikt 47 looks ace! i’ve always wanted to play bolt action, but with this the weird world war look to it i think i’ll want to definitely give this a go, plus on of the game designers looks like jake gyllenhaal 😀
After seeing konflict 47 in the flesh at salute this year ,liked what I saw . Think
You will see a lot of counts as using dust models or repointing dust models to use in konflict 47
Both systems have there strengths and weaknesses ,so it will be interesting to see
What happens next.
warren star trek over STAR WARS “I find your lack of faith disturbing”
thing to consider
1) STAR WARS addresses the spiritual nature of reality in a way star trek can only dream of.
not saying star trek dose not touch on this and star trek does address a deeper spiritual nature to reality. its just that one emphasises spirituality where the other emphasises science.so I guess it comes down to which emphasis touches you , or more likely touches you more at that given moment.
2) no jedi in star trek (lightsabers warren , tell me one weapon in all of human imagination cooler than a lightsaber ?)
3) the empire is sexy , the sexiest bad guys ever
(star trek is sexy too of course but only jean luke is empire sexy)
4)the rebels are cool (kirk would have a blast with han or poe but the federation in general does not have enough mustaches to be cool like x-wing pilots)
5) lovable characters ( R2D2 ,BB8 ,Chewbacca and the lovable rogue himself “the names Han Solo I’m captain of the millennium falcon”. the list is massive) it fact characters in general.
6) the music of john Williams (this one is massive , luke and the binary sunset , the princesses theme , the imperial march god dammit.i could write for days and not be finished with this one .never have we seen such a symbiosis between film , story telling and music.
i’m stopping here or else this is going to go on all day.
someone from the beasts of war team best read this or i’ll be sad and stop commenting on weekenders and backstagers.
I know Lloyd still loves the wars.
you can love them both , and even if you still love star trek more after all I have said that’s ok.
their is a crazy old hermit with something to say before you leave for federation space.
“remember the force will be with you ,always”
old obi wan kenobi
Oooooh you nearly had me @emptynessisform 🙂
Really I’m gonna put it down to age/experience/just a phase
When young it was star wars all the way, nothing came close, just as I’ve grown (and not in the eating way! lol) I think society and how it can shape itself is somthing I spend alot of my time thinking about.
Star Trek just has a bit more of that in it for this point in my life.
The spiritual side you mentioned is interesting as yes I’m a bit of an oxymoron in that as well as a deep love and appreciation of science and politics (<- like I said this more recently) I also hold deep spiritual beliefs and have a strong desire to explore this aspect of my life. I'm certainly not anti religion, but I believe (personally) that as constructs they perhaps hide the truth rather than reveal. So regarding Jedi - yes, but before mediclorians 😉 lol
I’d love to see more on Konflict 47. I have lots of weird wat stuff that would fit the bill.
Looked at some of the stuff on social media about Blood and Plunder there gutted I missed the kickstarter. On the other hand Konfilict’47 looks great wanting to see what the other fractions get before I commit as I am looking to pick up bolt action at the same time. Kind of like how each faction has diffrences in how there tech works and how well its thought out from you chatting with Chez. To be perfectly honest very tempted to do a Capitan America/Hydra theme with both US and Germans with some house rules thrown in as K’47 is just screaming that at me.
The book is worth getting first then as it has all the factions in, lists of what they can field (like the Bolt Action book; as well as images of the mechs etc. Just watched an ‘unboxing’ of the book and it looks amazing.
On 40K and movie adaptations. This is discussed by Tom Kirby in the preamble this year. It seems as if surrendering toy licensing rights is something they would have to do to get it made, which isn’t going to happen. Marvel Studios originally came about when Marvel saw how much money FOX and Sony were making from merchandising X-Men and Spider-Man, and how little of it they were seeing (comparatively speaking). They decided they’d be better off just making their own movies and keeping all the money.
I love when Warren is on the show, we always get these existential conversations. Or at the very least interesting discussions that sort of meander and remain fun and engaging. Welcome back!
I never really thought about the industry from a business point of view, I really liked the insight into FFG. I really enjoyed the interview with the guys from Warlord, I’m even more excited for Konflikt 47 now, so glad I pre-ordered the main book.
Nice to see you all back. Nearly spat out my coffee when you said John was intrestead in Konflict 47. By the way not sure if you know that the Chat Now box is overlaid on the comment box and obscuring part of it.
Great show, was wondering about silver tower and would like to see what you guys think how it stacks up to dungeon saga? also I have just picked up bolt action for myself and my son so 47 would be a nice add as I prefer sci fi and fantasy to history wargaming.
One thing, if only physical objects could come through the rifts in Konflikt ’47… like DINOSAURS!! Forget ITV’s Primeval imagine weird world war Dino riders!!
Now there’s an IP right there!
O why cant life be like when Kirk ruled the world? No films and no telly.
@warzan I might be wrong but I thought that there are various theories that gold and other heavy elements didn’t originate on earth. Would suggest that other planets also may not have gold, potentially a reason to invade.
Although given the 60+ years of TV being beamed into space which generally says “we kill aliens” extraterrestrial life will either stay well away or think we need to extinguish this upstart race before they invent interstellar travel!
Really great show today guys, especially love the entire rant about space. Nothing better than a group that can talk about these things without arguing about what does and doesn’t exist. I don’t get to talk about these things that much where i live, (in the bible belt). I’ve never played Bolt action before, but the new Konflikt ’47 game looks very cool. I like the idea behind the factions deciphering signals from an alien source. It’s as if the alien source is indirectly related to the war, unlike many games where the earth is being invaded. Very cool take on an alien presence, I’d enjoy playing this game. The lore sounds very cool, (who doesn’t like anything related to the world wars?) and the miniatures look great. Once again, overall great show guys, absolutely look forward to these shows every week.
I’m in the Bible Belt, too; we should form an enclave, 🙂
Star trek fleet captains, for me is still the best.
Tv series in a box,perfect.
Have any of you three played it?
I long for West Wind to make their 2.0 SotTR rules where I´ll be able to use all mechs and tanks with their rules for making your own mechs ^_^
thanks warren mate.
a man after my own heart ,science, religion and philosophy are just ways of making sense of reality you would be mad not to consider all views.
quantum mechanics and its understanding of subject object are close to the Buddhist teachings on dependent origination .
be it the cult of celebrity and materialistic nihilism or the man who seeks to understand an infinite reality with finite measurements to the yogi in the cave we all have a view.
would love to sit down and talk about your view sometime , you never know.
So tuned in to check out the Konflict 47 videos, but have to say that Watzan managed to actually get me interested is business reports and accounting. How did that happen? Who knew tax returns could be so Machiavellian?
No reason to be ashamed, kids should learn where their food comes from. Yeah he might be young, but I believe it’s never to early to start learning.
what was the big bolock it looked wonderful and like you I would love that on my table lol
I could be tempted by some Weird World War stuff…. Too many shinies – and Corvus Belli are talking about a fantasy game, and now fantast flight have basically made Torchlight in miniatures…….
Too much stuff.
Looking forward to Konflikt 47 even though I am a big Dust fan.
I’m so excited about Konflict – 47 it looks great
The should make an Infinity movie. Or even better a series. Netflix original INFINITY THE SERIES. About an Aleph renegade in the Infinity universe. That would be great to. Still waiting for the role playing game the be send.
Del toro does movies, polpot does genocide…hilarious.
I’m excited about bolt action getting a little weird, I only hope my huge collection of dust miniatures can be used.
I’m very interest in the Konflict ’47 kits because I absolutely adore the way the models look, and I think it’d help me get into Bolt Action as well. Plus, I have a group of friends who play bolt action and I’m not sure if they are planning on playing Konflict. I’d love to paint these models up and take it to them and play a couple demo games and show them how beautiful the models are.
Love the weekenders ! It’s why I became a back stager . I dig the conflict 47 minis, I have a Japanese force for bolt action. I can’t wait to see what kind of heavy troops and walkers they come up with. And it is cool to hear you guys have lives outside of Beasts of war. Good for you I say. Keep up the good work boys!
Oh that starter set means at least 2 new players to fight against at my shop!! Would be so amazing to win
konflic 47 for me go good with my bolt action minis
I would like to do a Conflict 47 army with the Panzer Fauste orcs and dwarfs. It would be like a weird world war fantasy game. Great. Or wold just Bolt Action with dwarf and orcs be better? A WWII fantasy game.
The barest hint of a Star Wars tabletop game (10 or 15mm mass battles please) is very enticing.
Also: Gimme the Konflikt ’47.
Zombies, Walkers and Werewolves using Boltaction rules. How cool is this gona be.
Really like the idea of this Konflikt 47, I have a bit of bolt action and love the game, this then provides a great expansion on the game. Great idea of the rift and opening up the new tech.
But integrating this into the normal bolt action is a very good idea and clever. Obviously this expansion won’t be for the ww2 traditionalists but will bring in some of the sci-fi, 40k players.
GIs with jet packs, looks cool.
I have been liking the look of the norsegard figures. As well on the topic of alien races, I cannot help thinking even with all their sciencitific advancement their culture outlook may be the same as ours therefore may be a bit xenophobic against other lifeforms
I finally took the plunge to jump into Bolt Action. I have been looking for a reason to get into this game for almost a year now. The miniatures are amazing and I like the history aspect combine with weird world 2.
Also, we have to give credit to Warlord games for making everything Bolt Action related compatible with Konflict 47.This proves to me that this is a great company that thinks of their customers and doesn’t see us as a dollar, pound, or euro symbol. Keep up the good work Warlord Games and thanks again Beasts of War for another amazing show!!!
Good to have you back Warzan! Great show as always. Can’t wait to get a demo of Dino Zoo 2017 at next year’s Gen Con!!
OMG I’ve been waiting this for YEARS!!! Konflikt 47 and it plays with my Bolt Action army
Porkine tech! No please no!
Welcome back @warzan !
That new Star Trek Game is very tempting, i’d like to see a bit of a demo game but, the rulebook is available on FFG site so, i will check it out some more.
Really like those Norsgard orcs, they look awesome!
See you next week
Looking forward to see if K47 gets Lloyd hooked into Bolt Action and his love of Weird War.
Darn don’t seem able to edit my own comment, but was always going to add this got on my radar when you guys where discussing DUST alternatives a while back and showed some of the models.
Well I do like watching you guys rambling on – you even make sense sometimes 🙂 – as I construct yet more Kings of War figures (or paint). I do like how Warlord have extended their Bolt Action ( a game being heavily supported in our local club) to Konflikt ’47. May they succeed!! Umm Dino Zoo – that has a ring to it – or is it an excuse to by yet more dino models…
Rabbits don’t even have enough nutrition for humans, let alone something the size of a Deinonychus or T rex. You really want to feed them chickens at least.
So looking forward to Konflikt 47 as an addition to our Bolt Action Games. These new rules actually work out for us because in our household we have Germans, Brits and Russians…we have been trying to come up with a decent scenario as to why we all be fighting against each other. Thanks to Konflikt 47 we have our answer 🙂 I was a Dust fan and that has kind of died a death, so the weird will be great to play again. Great show today!
Love the idea of a Star Wars wargame, I’ve wondered for a while why they haven’t made one, no I have the answer. If they make one I think it’ll need to be in 15mm any larger and the vehicles will be huge and suffer from the same problem that 40K does. I mean I loved your Hoth game at Salute 2014 (it’s how I found you guys btw) but for me a massed battle game needs to be big just not physically big. If you want to play a skirmish game you can use the Imperial Assault rules and models.
So as per usual I am a little late to the craze. So I want to say a few things…
First off welcome back Warren @warzan I hope the barn treated you well. You certainly tan better than I do, but I think I may look more English than most of you lot ha ha.
Alright the second thing, but perhaps the more important thing, I loved seeing the community picks segment! I think the reason I really liked it is because I love seeing members of the community up here on the backstage. Some of the times seeing all of the new products you get a little flooded and your like ‘She can’t take no more captain, she breaking apart’ (A Star Trek line 😛 ). However, when you see people up there who you is strongly a part of the community you feel like they are being recognized. I see so many of these guys and they are fantastic painters, and a lot them are really humble, and I think some of them believe they aren’t as good as they are. So getting that recognition, really makes them believe they are as good they are
I am really glad you guys liked my star effect but! I did something slightly different to Romain which I think you could help make the board with that will come after this. So I love Romain’s stuff because he is really interested in it and you can tell that he does. So onto how to do the board, so do the standard technique that Romain does then this! The toothbrush technique!
https://youtu.be/0ebVULQPc-s?t=5m50s
That will allow you to use Romain’s technique without loosing your mind from doing hundreds of stars.
Look forward to that Star Trek board, let’s see it on WAYPN, alright guys 😀
Keep those brushes wet 😀
So good to see Warren back, I forgot how much I miss his mad off the wall tangential discussions.
I finally got time to watch the show.
Great one, it’s nice to have Warren back slaughtering running order. Great tan by the way ;-).
Your take on the business side of this industry was pretty informative as well as interresting.
The Dino Zoo sounds really cool. Who wouldn’t want to feed Bambi to a T Rex and play with Triceratops poo ;-D
Boy, I can’t wait to see what you guys have in store about Konflikt 47. I’m really interrested in seeing more about it. Unboxings, gameplay videos, painting tips, etc…
You could mount Axis Zombies on Manny’s Dinosaurs!
Firstly I like how the regular three presenters Justin, Lloyd and Ben, made the new guy Warren welcome and encouraged him to speak (Jokes Warren welcome back).
Secondly Warren is entirely correct, I have been where Justin is (and in all honesty Justin IS a better painter than I am ) and not painted models because I was worried I wouldn’t do them justice, but Warren is right, have a dig and develop your skills. Use painting videos, Romain, is a fantastic resource and one of the best painting tutors on the net. aint something and improve. i am trying stuff that I never thought I would ever do, and while I am still not great, I am getting better. I have seen your stuff Justin, you and Ben, even though you are hard on yourselves are actually pretty good.
As an Australian, I am concerned that we have inflicted ” The Sullivans ” on the British Community as well as our own. I thought we just had to apologise for “Neighbours”. The bloody thing ran for 6 or 7 years. I remember as a little kid being traumatized when Tom Sullivans best mate Bert stood on a mine in North Africa and had his leg blown off and later died in hospital. I didn’t sleep for weeks after that. (The fact I remember the names, is indicative of how deep the trauma went ……. Bloody Sullivans)
I love Warren’s bit about the new games he makes with his kids, I am sorry mate but the old lady was out of line, It was a simple statement of fact, some dinosaurs ate other animals. You can console yourself with the fact, that you are a better man than I am, as I would have walked off telling my son something to the effect of ” or if you don’t want to feed it cows how about interfering old ladies?”
and lastly, Damn you Justin , I wasn’t the slightest bit interested in Konflict 47 until now …… I currently have Warlord Games site open and i am admiring the stuff ….. bugger
After seeing them ‘in the flesh’ so want to get into this, they look amazing. Had my doubts but have been won over. The armored US look excellent, can’t wait to see what comes out for the Brits, Soviets and Japanese.
Loving the look of Konflikt 47, I could never get excited about Dust but maybe as this is more of a mishmash between normal WWII and Weird WWIIit just seems more interesting and I love the idea of being able to just add to my current Bolt action armies to play it though I think i’ll wait for the British starter box before I jump in.
Happy sunday, though I know its monday by now 🙂
Konflict 47 looks nice, might end up being my way into bolt action 🙂
As a Dust fan who’s been leery of making any additional purchases and as Bolt Action player who’s happy as a clam, I’d love to get my hands on those Konflikt 47 starter sets. It would totally make my day!
And great job to all the painters. That’s a lot of inspirational right there. I can’t get half way through a mini before I want to start over and set the bar higher. Thanks guys!
I am surprised you mentioned Dust when talking about weird war gaming, yet no mention of Secrets of the Third Reich which is very similar to Knflict 47 with a slightly more occult background.
Romain’s vids are excellent, great to watch and entertaining. He does amazing work
@warzan thanks for the kind words about my Maw-Krusha. I would love to pop into the studio some time but living in Australia makes that a bit tricky :). If I am ever in your neck of the woods I’ll let you know.
Let Lloyd know I’ll be uploading some Maw-Krusha ass tomorrow. 🙂
Happy Sunday,
Don’t worry about it Warren I’m pretty sure you didn’t even come close to crossing any lines talking about meat for dinosaurs coming from animals.
I really enjoy the Julian May take on higher lifeforms which is more that they watch and then shepherd suitable races into the galactic sphere and cordon off those you can’t and won’t make it until they safely (from a rest of the galaxy perspective) take themselves out of the running.
The Konflict 47 stuff does look quite interesting to me, but it’ll be a while before I make my move on it on a bit of a self imposed limit on hobby funds for a few months while I catch up on projects.
I have been using Roll20 for a few years now and I really love it. It allows
Friends from my past and present to game together for a few hours every
Couple of weeks or so for a few hours after work. It’s really a lot of fun.
Having official D&D support will certainly save me hours of setup and prep
Work. Can’t wait to try it out
Konflict 47 sounds interesting. Bolt Action has been a big hit at my local club and lots of people have armies for it, but I’ve never bothered as WW2 doesn’t really interest me that much, but the inclusion of ‘weird’ elements might tempt me into it. Will have to look into it at some point to see if any of the factions catch my eye.
@warzan: I’ve been playing D&D via Roll20 for a few months now and I highly reccomend it as a way to play if you don’t have a local group or your local gamer friends can’t sync their schedules up. The group I play in has a few of us from the UK, a guy in Sweden, a girl in Denmark and another in the US. We already have six people, plus the DM, so I’m not sure if there’s room available, but if you want I could probably give you contact details for my DM for you to enquire about joining.
Also, you’re not restricted to D&D, so you can run/play other games using it easily. In fact, I think you’d easily be able to run a Dungeon Saga campaign via Roll20 if you wished 😉
On the topic of Dyson Sphere’s: correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Dyson also say that any race that was advanced enough to build one would be so advanced that they wouldn’t need to.
On alien invasions: doesn’t matter if they’re a rogue element rather than a whole civilisation – if the tech gap is broad enough, we probably won’t stand a chance; even if they only had half a dozen outdated (by their race’s standards) ships with dozen nukes on each, we wouldn’t be able to survive a full on attack by them. As for slavery, technically if they wanted humans for pets or zoos, wouldn’t that count as slavery? Also, while the bulk of labour could be done by robots, what if their was some environment which scrambled the electronics but didn’t harm organic life, then it’d be more efficient to use slave labour than robots (even if said slaves used non-electronic machinery).
The Runewars game from FFG is definitely my highlight of GenCon so far. I am a pretty big Warhammer 40,000 player but I unfortunately didn’t get in in time to play old school rank and file fantasy. I have been looking at Kings of War for some time but I think moving away from 40k into something to uses simple mechanics excites me. Yes, there is Sigmar but I don’t think it has grabbe my enough for me to keep playing it. What Runewars is doing for me is combining aspects of X wing and Armada and putting it into the fantasy setting. The movement templates and dials suystems are what is really grabbing my attention. Being able to just chill, set up a board and chuck some dice and spin some dials while sipping a cold one will really give me a great excuse to really delve into fantasy games over sci-fi, and hopefully get me to put down my dark angels and my tape measure! Bringing the set out in a 2 player starter bundle is also a smart move to keep up with competitors and to bring more people into the wargame market (to those who may be pure x wing players or board game players, a Fantasy Flight logo may draw them in and let the game do the rest)
Fantasy flight continue to impress and, while I know some people will not enjoy this style of game, what they intend to produce with Runewars really gets me excited. It also gets my shiny syndrome senses tingling, ready for collecting some incredible looking minis to flesh out an amazing force with beautiful sculpts that FFG flawlessly bring out. This upcoming year will be incredible for players new and old. And I hope companies other than GW lead the charge into a new era of wargames as the hobby continues to grow.
2017 is going to be an expensive year for me, but my goodness I can’t wait!
Konflikt’ 47 Is looking so good but I do like Team Yankee as well…and I don’t have the money for both. 47 is a great idea because so many people have Historical minis and now they can add some spice to their game. But Team Yankee just looks so cool..
MIssed the saturday weekender, but XLBS made the work!
Some amazing miniatures showcased this week from the community!
Those Konflickt 47 mechs look really good. Strike a really good balance of looking like a thing that could have been manufactured at that time with those tools.
Go, go, gamer dad! 🙂
I think the old lady was a vegetarian.
So… Is anyone esle thinking of ways to explain how nazi’s could get dinosaurse though these rifts? Because now I want to see spider tanks and rapter calvary, OH! And T-Rex tank!
Do reaper miniatures still have their museum scale dinosaurs?
Hey @warzan I would totally be up for putting you and a couple of other guys on the BOW team through a one or two session game just for you guys!
First weekender in a while with @Warren, and would`t you know it we get “Hairy Legged Ball`s”…………………..Nice to see you back @Warren, and carrying on where you (like he had never been away) had left of.
On hearing about “Konflikt`47”, i was not sure about it. Where “Dust” just had me cringing, i mean tank`s with leg`s……..come on it just does not happen. So when Konflikt 47 showed up, i just thought here we go again, but i was mistaken. For some unknown reason i`m liking Konflikt, and as you can add it to an army you already have for “Bolt Action” and use the same rules system…………It`s a winner in my book. I nipped over to “warlord`s” site and i`ve had a closer look at it, and must say i`m very impressed with what i have seen. I spent a while looking at the German starter set, and will at some point be adding some of them to my “Bolt Action” German force……..(Wonder if they will ever just sell the “Turret`s”, as i have a few spare tank`s and was at a lose end what to do with them)……………On first seeing the little “Spinne Light Panzermech” i was not impressed, but now seeing one painted and with other mini`s it get`s my vote.
Liking @Warren`s Idea for a Dino game, lot`s of idea`s being thrown around. So here`s another one for you Warren, when you buy some Dino`s don`t forget to buy some small one`s. They can be used as babies for the bigger one`s, and they get to play with there dinner before eating it.
Norsgard`s Orcs, what can you say that`s not already been said. They are some of the best i`ve seen to date, and i think Warren hit the nail on the head………Spacewolf Ork`s, get`s my vote.
@ Justin the BoW most “Secret weapon”, do not feed after midnight…………..You have been warned
I am stuck on LoTR, but all the starter sets make other gaming systems very appealing. I am super thankful to have BOW as a means to stay informed of the gaming industry and the community. Keep up the great work and JUSTIN FOR THE WIN!!!
Thanks for giving us a chance to win! I’d love to win the Konflikt starter bundle cuz my buddy keeps breaking the models I loan him to play other games. He can build and break his own army!
Warren, when I think about dinosaurs I always think about old Arcade game, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. There was also a cartoon (Dinoriders I think) with dinosaurs armed with laser weapons etc. Maybe something like that: Your lets say 40k minis/infinity whatever VS sons dinosaurs. Simple rules like in AOS and voila 🙂
Happy Monday 🙂
well, I must agree with @dignity on the I am afraid to paint something stuff. I have an issue with Infinity and how Angel paints it. I know mine will not be as good. 🙁
Interested to see how Konflict 47 might work as an alternative to DUST
I am so genuinely excited about Kon47. My gaming buddy and I are long term GW fans and regularly play 30k/40k. He introduced me to bolt action some time ago and I’ve got the day it’s a great rules set. Really pleased to see Warlord co-operate with a company producing some awesome Wierd WWII pieces – looking forward to the unboxings!
i like that Konflikt 47 still feels like a WWII game with a twist. Dust just feels like a Sci-Fi game.
HAPPY SUNDAY,..nice to see the bro-mance with Warren and Justin is back in XBLS, brilliant show guys loved the articles covered and Warren’s explanation for why we wont be invaded from outer space…but i think you forgot one thing,,Underpants….lets be honest there might be advanced races out there but can they make underpants like us Humans i think not my friends, i think not!!…oh yes beer and porn..Question: can Aliens with the hands ..do a five knuckle shuffle..???
@warzan funnnily enough my son was playing with dinosaurs as I watched this. He’s four and has moved onto pirates now. So the dinosaurs attacked them. The pirates had a skeleton and used it’s bones to distract the dinosaur.
Stock up on pirate playmobil now.
Have to admit the ability to get into s game quickly and easily is definitely a bonus
However the depth and detail also appeals to some. My current game of
choice is Infinity, not a game without its complexities. I looked to get into Dust Tactics as another game that would be easy to get into, but the challenges around the KS have sort of put that off for now. Fingers crossed it finally gets resolved. So interested in seeing more of what Konflict 47 is like as a potential alternative
Weird world war 2 games always make me pine for a command & conquer game.
Tesla tanks, mammoth tanks, stealth tanks, rocket troops, apps… And of course commandos.. Would be epic!
For me FFG has been about bringing RPGs back in my life. I love the 40K universe and they have really brought it to life with their Dark Heresy line of RPGs. Sadly I don’t see GW making an effort in that area if the IP is heading back to them.
On another note, the Konflikt 47 seems really good. I simply love that they have incorporated their Bolt Action line into it. Simply brilliant! I just got my first BA minis to paint and thinking I can continue with them and then incorporate the weireder parts later makes me a very happy man.
My army Commander is going to ride in on a Dinosaur with rabbit ears on his helmet. That’s how deep I’m going to get WEIRD!!!
Love the Konflikt 47 stuff. Had to move the past month for work. So I had to miss Historicon and Gen Con. Great to get some coverage of Gen Con from BOW. Would love to win the two starter sets.
I really love the idea of Konflict ’47. I wondered why we needed another Weird World War game, but now I see it. The dual purpose of the Bolt Action base with flavors of weird. That makes it a much more solid purchase. Now to convince my gaming buddies of that too!
Looking at what you have did over the last year or so I’ve been watching Beasts of War myself and a few others have went back into new and old gaming, With modern and older games this Konflikt 47 might tickle a few people. Working with the same rule ideas as WWII which took off like a house on fire in our club, this might well add more spice,
You are the one’s which have made me spend more money into a hobby that i thought i had enough areas in lol “Shinny” cant put a price on enjoyment.
Buy Paint and Play “Enjoy.”
I unfortunately did not make it to GenCon this year, I live in Chicago about 3 hours away …looks like it was a great one though. For about 10 years I never missed a day of the Con. Sadly this year I did not have the time or the money to go. The coverage was great you guys did a gr at job
I’ve done a review of the Konflict 47 rules here: http://www.warlordgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=83&t=26249
Essentially it’s Bolt Action 1.5 with a definite influence from Gates of Antares and some new rules for the Weird War stuff.
I anticipate that when Bolt Action 2.0 comes out my group will use that rule set for both Bolt Action and Konflict 47, using just the weird war rules as a supplement to Bolt Action.
I think you guys have missed the point of the FFG entry into the fantasy wargame market. I think Warren missed the mark because his view was so GW focused. We know that GW warned FFG away from miniature battle games. Then FFG got the Star Wars rights and GW is a distant second for earning potential compared to X wing, Armada, etc. GW is big, but FFG off the back of Star Wars is HUGE. GW can pull every licence from FFG they like and it’s still worth it ($), so FFG can say FU to GW.
Have a look at shows like Essen and Gencon. GW has booths that they don’t always staff and don’t show off any new releases. Everything GW does is so UK/EU focused that it may be big in the UK but is a much smaller player world wide. FFG by contrast has standing room only at the flight report, sells thousands of games at each show and produces boardgames that are quality products played consistently for years.
How does GW’s boardgames compare? Super expensive, designed for predominately 40K players looking for cheaper miniature bundles. There are people who play games like FFG’s ‘Descent’ for years. GW probably won’t even be making Warhammer Quest Silver Tower in a years time. Is anyone still playing ‘Betrayal at Calth’? ‘Renegade’? ‘Execution Force’?
40K is no longer the biggest selling miniatures game in the market. X wing is. GW relinquished it’s hold on the fantasy market thinking that the 15% of it’s overall earnings that fantasy made wasn’t worth the effort and the loyalty of their customer base was a risk worth taking. Well it turns out other companies think it is worth the effort and probably will win customers loyalty.
Saying GW is moving into the boardgame market is stretching a massive bow. Saying that FFG are moving into the miniatures gaming market is stating the bleedingly obvious.
Remember this was recorded before we knew about the fantasy game, and was based solely on ‘less’ 40k licence stuff being promoted by them 🙂
I realise that, BUT it’s still true that FFG makes board games for a massive range of IPs and have games set in the same IPs that are completely unrelated. In the terrinoth world you have deckbuilding games, board games, dungeon crawlers and now a wargame. In other IPs you have LCGs, tactical boardgames, RPGs, fleet battles, dog fights, dice games, etc.
Where are the GW boardgames of yesteryear that were actually interesting and innovative? Dracula, Road Wars, Chaos Maurauders, Talisman, Blood Royale? They gave them to other companies (mostly FFG). Doing games like those would be innovative for GW. Instead GW has miniatures for one of two IPs in a box with cut down, extremely haphazard rules that GW wont support in a year or two, that it is trying to sell you to get you to play either AoS or 40K with.
Konflict 47 seems a great idea. Warhammer historicals could have been the same idea but in reverse.
Just got my Konflikt ’47 in the mail from the UK today! WOOOHOOO! First off, it’s quality as usual from Osprey. Great printing. Warlord rules (something familiar) and Weird War fluff from Gobo. I am a little bummed that there aren’t any customization rules for the walkers. I can definitely proxy some of the SOTR models I have (US Armoured Inf.) but as SOTR had the kitbash rules, I have some “other models” I was hoping to bring in. Let me know if there are some ideas on how the point spread works. I have some some Chickens (Starship Troopers) and Dust I would like to work in.
A bit late, but I hope I can get in the draw! Now that Bolt Action has gone ‘fantasy’, I am more interested. I can paint the troops whatever I like and don’t be blamed not to be “accurate”. That’s what puts me off in historical games. Well, that and the fact that “this two factions never went against each other” and other “this didn’t happen” things that cuts my creativity 🙁
Loveley stuff!
Can’t wait for the individual releases i’m going buying a starter set now just for the walkers and tanks
So now my frikend have preordered the US starter box…and
I have to get the german one! Like the german heavy walkers but Think the Spinne is a little flimsy…why NOT keep the kfz. 222 armoured car instead?
Great show, got me really Konflicted between hobby time painting some Bushido and reading about vanishing stars!
Great show this week, the paint jobs are amazing.
Konfilkt 47 looks good and I wont have to but tons of new stuff, but just most of my Bolt action stuff I already have tons off.
Loving the Star Wars vs. Star trek debate. Could you guys maybe do an editorial on sci-fi universes and the sociatal backgrounds and how each of these have been portrayed in games? X=wing and attack wing are clearly very similar games while the background is not, so how does a setting influence the possibility for “gamification”?
Great show this week chaps, well done. Personally I’m hoping a giant rabbit comes along and eats the T-rex.
Konflikt 47′ looks like an interesting way to have an army that works in two ways – most of it just fine for a regular historical game, then add a few fantasy bits and bobs and you’ve got yourself a weird war game, even if it is slightly lighter on the pulp than others.
Fantasy Flight’s Warhammer licenses may not have been renewed after Asmodee acquired them. The cost of the license may not have been justified by unit sales of the Warhammer branded games to Asmodee. I’d be fine with GW taking back their games and making them, if they commit to selling them outside of their normal distribution. I’ve been interested in buying and playing Battle at Calth, but it isn’t readably available where I live, and because of GWs restrictions about selling GW products online, there is not a great place to pick it up for a reasonable price.
I think GW needs to have wider distribution of their board game products with less restriction about advertising and selling them online. I think those changes would propel their sales of board games.
Great weekender.
Glad I pledged on the miniature wargaming the movie kickstarter.
Shame we didn’t unlock warlord filming miniature.
Hero Quest was also my first introduction to the hobby, but it was only in my 30’s now that I have finally had enough money to get involved.
I love the look of the Panzerfäuste miniatures game, with the WWII ork and dwarf miniatures. I would love to get these guys into my bolt action armies for some weird world war action.
I am looking forward to the Beasts of War Konflict ’47 games and unboxings, but the new plastic US airborne has me just as interested. Not enough cash, not enough space, but no doubt I will still buy cool stuff. lol.
It’s my son’s birthday this month and he loves tanks and he loves X-wing. Yes, I bought him the new Gale Force 9 Tanks! I met Warren at Salute and he advised me to pick the game up and much like the line Warren enthusiastically uses on Justin “when he’s right, he’s right” 🙂
QUESTION:
Konflict ’47 seems to be Bolt Action rules plus the required future war tech enhancements tweaks to create it’s own flavour. Version 2 of the Bolt Action rules is about to arrive on the market. You have the original Bolt Action that people will still play. Konflict ’47 is still heavily version 1 based with a few exceptions. Version 2 seems to go far beyond a tidy up of the rules and holds some improvements and changes in store.
How do we feel the community will react to having 3 rule sets all arriving at the same time?
I can’t find a local gaming club and only play with my son. For me I think I will just commit to the version 2 rules because from what little I’ve read, some of the changes make immediate sense and will improve the game. For people that carry armies around and commit to playing a variety of opponents I would wonder if they will disagree on what rule set to play and whether weird world war has any place in their gaming.
Please let me know your opinion.
47 is very much influenced by Gates of Antares and BA 2.0 will also be. Konflict 47 is more like BA 1.5 than the full 2.0. Konflict 47 has more reactions, like escape and firefight, but lacks the multi unit activation and templates that we know 2.0 will have.
For my group we’ll probably use the BA 2.0 rules for both Bolt Action and Konflict 47 and just keep the weird war stuff from 47. The point systems are exactly the same as are the platoon building rules.
I’m not sure I can watch this anymore. It’s feeding my addiction! How can I possibly afford konflikt 47 yet, by the same token, how can I live without it?!?
Have thought about trying Bolt action and/or Dust (because mechs) but with Konflikt 47 I can kind of have both, so really keen to try it out. My father’s collecting Bolt action models so would be fun to drag him into it too.
I will definitely be giving K47 a try. While the new technology/weapons doesn’t appeal to me at the moment, taking it on with my existing late war units does.
I’ll be interested to see the points cost compared to old school tanks
@warzan nice to have you back, you look refreshed.
Loving the gamer dad update, a Dinosaur Farm (with food supply) sounds like a cool basis for a game
Really looking forward to see what happens with the FFG direction now they are part of the Asmodee North America clan. I am thinking that you are right that they and GW will part company, it makes sense for both companies in my opinion.
Weird World War is an interesting direction to take Bolt Action in, but the re-usability of the existing Bolt Action models and the fact you don’t have to have all WWW makes for a great concept.
Warlord has a good idea there adding onto a game to give it a different flavor. The way it’s described I like the adaptability of the system.
I’m really looking forward to getting some of the automated infantry and heavy guys to add to my Market Garden themed army. Very keen.
great show, definiately like the look of Konflikt 47, I wonder if they will just make upgrade kits for existing tanks?
@warzan although the movie sucked battlefield earth did raise some points, gold is one of the best conductors for transmitting data/electricity. And it may be easier to mine in space we already have a large amount stockpiled.
Maybe not an attack from a civilization but an evil corporation that sees no problem robing an “under developed” planet.
I’m with Justin though… I have some Kingdom Death minis… I’m just too afraid to paint them. I’ve even considered taking them to a “pro” painter… even then I wouldn’t know how I wanted them painted…
Got to say the more I see of Silver Tower the more I’m intrigued, although my heart is slowly moving on from GW, it’s a sad feeling like drifting apart from a lover. But I’m middle aged now and WW2 is calling.
nice/funny show guys loved @warzan & @lloyd s video
I like and agree with Warren’s point about getting stuck in. I have quite a few Kingdom Death exclusives that are just sitting there due to me being hesitant to paint them. I should just bite the bullet!
Really happy with what Warlord Games is doing lately. Would love to see a battle report using their Zombies.
Konfikt rule book arrived the day after I went on holiday. Have to now wait two loooong weeks until I get my dose of WWII weirdness
It seems that the Dyson Sphere / Star Trek discussion is pretty much the McDonald’s argument of nation state war. @warzan talked about this along time ago I think but it comes down to no two countries that each have a McDonald’s will not go to war with each other because they have reached a certain point on the civilization progress bar.
I can see the argument but I also think there will be another step along that civilization progress bar that places those same nations against each other.
Konflikt ’47 has definitely become the Weird World War game for me. With the added benefit of it basically being a 2 for 1 game opportunity. By helping my friends build up K’47 armies, we’ll also have Bolt Action armies at no extra (minis) expense. And I might actually be able to talk them into playing historical WWII for the first time. 🙂 🙂
Really looking forward to the pick and mix approach to turrets and hulls.
really excited about konflikt 47!
Oh, man .. Konflikt 47 looks like the bees danglies .. gonna be getting myself some of that stuff .. time to start saving the pennies!!
Glad you had a great holiday, everybodys done a fab job but nice to see you back
I’ve never really been a fan of Weird World War for whatever reason but the more I see of Konflikt 47 the more I want to get into it. I think it’s because the rules seem similar to Bolt Action, a game I really enjoy, and I can use my Bolt Action minis to add to Konflikt 47 so I don’t need to start completely over with armies. Also the minis don’t seem too over the top Weird World War wise.
As a huge dust fan i love the look of this stuff.
Pol Pot, alive and well as Del Torro…
Who’s Pol Pot? He’s the one that does genocide.
Great viewing.
I think Jurassic Park on the SNES had dino-rearing game-keeping missions like ‘mend the fence’ and ‘find the stray eggs’.
what’s that joke about the naïve visitor asking to see a Dinosaur at the London Zoo? – ‘the Rhino-Saurus!’
…and it might be true :-O
https://ph.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081118114841AAcHAMo
Totally understand Justin. I’m sitting on limited edition Kingdom Death figures and don’t feel I’m good enough to paint them and worry about ruining these irreplaceable beauties.
The Germany heavy infantry on the starter box art look pretty epic, looking forward to getting my hands on them for sure!
After I finished the watching the weekender I went hunting for the Heroquest unboxing you mentioned. I’m glad I did, it was very funny. The best thing about today was the XLBS though 😉
Interesting discussions once again, glad to have you back, and on form, on the xlbs Warren.
Orcs meet space wolves: sounds like Klingons to me. I certainly think that the Norsgard renders have that Klingony vibe; even down to the writing on the sash!
Bring on the Brits/ANZAC’s for Konflict 47.
Do you know if there will be any Italian models in the pipeline? The Italians must be able to design some stylish new tech vehicles.
Konflikt 47 and then very soon bolt action 2.0! Oh my wallet is in tears!
I can’t be the only one remembers the Dyson Sphere and Scotty?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6K7C7f9tqtk
Nice to see you back in action Warren! 🙂
Konflict looks cool, just painting up some British Airborne, so would will be interested what they could add to that force. No doubt jet packs will be an option.
When kickstarter section goes on my budget scrambles and terrifies, lol. Haha ha!
Ok just watched both unboxing’s for the starter armies and Konflict is looking nice and this from a gamer how doesn’t play world war 2 games. So can I please win the starter sets.
Konflikt ’47, Dust 1947, Secrets of the Third Reich, Mauser Earth and don’t forget Spartan’s Project Gotterdammerung too! This is truly the golden age of Weird World War games!
Diving into Konflikt 47 with Both feet!
