Happy weekend all
Happy weekend
Happy weekend Beasts!
Does Shadespire mean there will be no new Mordheim on the horizon?
I guess they said at the GW panel at the Nova Open that there was currently no plans to bring Mordhiem back in the foreseeable future, but there is no saying what could happen way down the line. So I take that to mean we probably won’t see it for maybe a few years but if the Specialist games they have and are bringing back continue to be popular we probably will see it at some point, at least I hope so.
It’s the Weekend.
Not any weekend, this one marks the “Return of Brian”. Following the “Life of Brian” his followers have eagerly awaited his return, only this time he’s pi$$ed off chasing after Ophelia!
Chain of Command’s campaign books sound interesting. I like that it takes in to account how your troops and Commander feel about you.
Awesome show. Glad to see Too Fat Lardies finally get some attention!
Nice show
Thank you As 😉
Wow Dark age models look so nice. Is there a distributer in the EU whit this game?
Just on the playing time of Gloom of Kilforth. The 45 minutes is per player, and it probaly takes a little longer than that. For that reason I only play it 1-2 players.
chain of command sounds fantastic especially the mini campains
You know I’ve always seen Two Fat Lardies at wargames shows but never really checked out their stand, I will definitely change this at Salute next year.
Really like the look of Shadespire. Pretty sure it’s not a replacement for Mordhiem
Really different from Mordheim for sure. Much more of a board game arena feel to it. The free choice of unit activation and deck building also really mix the game up. Az
Its my weekend off time for tea and Bow. Brush in hand time for painting.
Such a plan! Az
Chain of Command, the best platoon size game I ever played.
Chain of command sounds good. I have been looking for another WWII set to use my Bolt action armies with. I haven’t played much BA since V2. Could this be a good replacement?
The pint sized campaigns sound like a great idea.
Nice Weekender guys, have fun at Essen!
I got to try out Chain of Command. We have the rulebook at the club, just need to tempt someone to a game. I’ll definitely check out the pint-sized campaigns.
Thank you kindly @guillotine! 🙂 Az
I agree with the richness of real world history versus the contrived – it wins hands down every time as not writer can ever conceive or create anything like the depth and detail that exists in actuality – not even Tolkien and he created entire languages for his Middle-earth!
I love the idea of mini campaigns though I would like them to vary in size and duration just like real operations – anything from 3 to perhaps 7 or 8 games with the 4 or 5 being more typical. There is an old computer game called Blitzkrieg with several add-ons wher you track units from the start of the war to the end – the outcome of every battle affects what you have available for the next one so if you lose a veteran tank crew in one engagement you get a bunch of rookies for the next one. You can play as German, British, American or Russian side depending on the core game and the expansions. You have airstrikes, artillery, paratroopers and on the D-day battles German coastal artillery emplacements with HUGE guns.
Downfall looks amazing
AZ, did you revile the prizde for the Awards voting! A BIG BLACK box full of goodes! Sounds like Kingdom Death Monster to me. lol
It’s back baby! I can safely say that if we had a Kingdom Death Monster to give away, it’d be in my house locked up 😛 Az
as good as downfall might be and as pretty as gloom of kilforth is, KD:M monster is up for pre order Az mate.
There’s too many “life destroying” games out there – Gloomhaven, Kingdom Death, 7th Continent. If I start them all other things will have to take a back seat, including eating, sleeping and weekendering…. just can’t risk it 😛 Az
I feel your pain. although it seems only fair as I have been on the gloom of kilforth kickstarter, tis a thing of beauty.
like shadows of esteren the sound track tipped me over the edge. a game reaches another level for me when it hit me emotionally. beautiful art is one thing, but for a game to be beautiful on the inside elevates it way beyond mechanics.
peace and love and pixie dust
Happy weekend everyone! 😀 Az
Shadespire looks good
Happy weekend! the pint sized campaigns sound very interesting, I like narrative campaigns.
congratulations @warzan!
Congrats @warzan !!!
Really want to get into Chain of command – I don’t have the biggest of flats so a small sized skirmish platoon sized game played on a 4×4 sounds great for me 🙂
HAPPY SATURDAY EVERYBODY 🙂 🙂
Richard seemed to have forgotten that TooFatLardies actually produce a set of Science Fiction rules. They’re called Quadrant 13, they’re company level and are written by my mate Robert Avery. http://toofatlardies.co.uk/product-category/quadrant-13/
I love the TFL stuff. Great to see Rich on the show!
Lardies Dux system is great, I`m currently campaiging in one
Chain of Command Campaign, would suggest 11 Armoured Division in Europe.
Good morning and congratulations @warzan. So glad to see Richard Lard and CoC content here. Been looking forward since the first announcement during the Dunkirk week. Great game that we are beginning to explore in our gaming group. It’s got nice mechanics (patrol phase, jump off points, fire and move…) and a whole lot of tactial choices to be made, hence it plays really smooth. Hopefully the Let’s play videos will come up some time soon. Ideas for pint sized campaigns? Hmm, I would love to see something for Market Garden (my favourite), maybe some early war Italian vs. French in the Alps (4th Infantry Division Livorno) or something about the early war Middle East theatre with the British fighting Vichy French forces in the Levante / Syria….
Congratulations @warzan and family!
I’ve been wanting to check out Chain of Command for a while now. I’ll have to motivate myself to actually get around to it some time soon.
TFL do some awesome sets of rules and CoC is the best set of WW2 rules I have gamed.
Happy Weekend!
Shadespire’s looking awesome, I’m feeling torn between the Stormcast Eternals or the Sepulchral Guard, although I may wait and see what other warbands come later, Kharadron Overlords eventually?
Omnissiahs Cogs! the Astraeus looks magnificent, what else has Cawl got up his numerous sleeves.
Great show guys 🙂
Another mini-Johnston in the world. Congratulations @warzan! Best wishes to the entire family.
Chain of Command is a fun game, with a very nice community online and so. And TFL is an amazing company, they make good rules that don’t need a thousand books or expansions nor make you buy any specific minis.
Congrats @warzan!
Thanks for another great show. The campaign system is going to cause me to drink one less pint (or two). Jack, welcome; its a great world with lots of games to play.
Still not sure about Shadespire, Chain of Command looks interesting though.
Im interested in Chain Of Command especially for its Pint sized campaign’s. Im playing the two bigger WW2 games and i think this will be so much easier to get a game on and keep interest
Great show. Congratulations to Warren and family. Chain of command and Gloom of Kilforth are so tempting my wallet is shaking with fear.
I like that CoC can be play at 15mm to 28mm so if you play FOW, Battlegroup or Bolt action you can easily get into Chain of Command. i also am interested in there print size campaigne where there are consequence for throwing your men into a meat grinder.
i’d like to see some campaign stuff in the early WWII far east setting exploring what could have happened if the British etc had carried on resisting instead of retreating and eventually surrendering in the mistaken impression that it would save the lives of their men (& civilians)
could have more determined (and costly) resistance have made a difference or were they doomed from the moment Japan mobilised against them
and congratulation to Warren & family
I hear nothing but good things about Chain of Command. An excuse to paint my German Heer?
Safety First….
Lardy games are fantastic! Great to see more TFL coverage on BoW. I’d love to play one of their games through a pint sized campaign.
I love seeing the Lardies get more press!
Really great to see some Lardie content. They produce great rule sets that are all about the game and the narrative, not about how many more models can we sell. Probably the best company name in gaming, certainly the most appropriate.
Pint sized campaigns great idea. How about some earlier war volumes for some really gritty infantry battles, e.g. Finland v USSR in winter war, Crete or some of the battles in hill country in Tunisia or Italy. The US Marines on Guadalcanal would also work well.
We got some Sharp Practice and Chain of Command content coming over the next few weeks @mark28, be on the lookout 🙂 Az
Looking forward to seeing the Sharp Practice 😀 .
Congratulations Andrea!.
Well Done.
Warren how was your induction?
Another great show, thanks guys.
Chain of command sounds Good
Congratulations to @warzan and family.
I really like playing Chain of Command. It allows some realistic play and in 15mm it is to scale. I have not done any of the campaigns yet but I think I will get the campaign guide and set up some of my own since I play EW France. Thanks to BOW for starting coverage of Too Fat Lardies and I look forward to the battle reports.
Not sold on Shadespire. Arena combat isn’t really my thing, and the thought of a GW game with an FFG expansion model terrifies me! But no doubt it will fly off the shelves Hopefully it won’t take down any other games with it.
It’s about time Mantic started to introduce smaller level fantasy gaming. Being able to play at multiple different levels is one of the things that really helps build a world. Up till now Kings of War has just been mass battles and dungeon crawling, so Vanguard fits in a nice space.
Chain of Command Pint Sized campaigns are really impressive for the cost, packed with information. I’d love to see a series of linked campaigns following the Market Garden operation – the American airborne taking the bridges, XXX Corps’ push up along Hell’s Highway, the fighting at Oosterbeek and of course the iconic stand of the British paras in Arnhem.
I really love playing 2fatlardies sharp practice and I have seen chain of command being played. But as yet I have not collected it myself. But this campaign system looks really good. Keep up the good work lads I love the weekenders. I am also loving johns vlogs on the tank painting.
Any Pacific War for Chain of Command? Also could Chain of Command be used for the Russo-Japanese war or Manchuria?
Too Fat Lardies has some of the best, under appreciated, wargames rules around. “Sharpe Practice 2” is a great black power system covering the whole period. In additional to the rules, the Lardies publish loads of free to download army lists for a variety of theaters. Same thing for “CoC” which is also loads of fun. For WWI and the Russian Revolution, they have “Through the Mud and the Blood.” IABSM is an alternative to Flames, and, Richard, you did publish “Quadrant 13” for a bit of sci-fi. Everyone should visit Lard Island very soon.
Speaking of Chain of Command, why not have Warren’s big mug on the screen? He could show off his “hobby time” (Jack) and “induct” him into the world of gaming. Congratulations, Big Daddy.
Crackin’ show
One of the best things TFL does are their summer and Winter specials. They are usually full of conversions to their own rule systems and lots of scenarios as well
I really like that ideal about shorty campaign, in my group people drop out of our long runny campaigns.
I am really enjoying all of the Shadespire coverage. Thanks for all the good stuff!
Congrats warzan with the new baby .
Shadespire kind of bothers me. The fact that I’m going to essentially buy every expansion in order to get all the non race specific cards seems like a real money sink. If they let you purchase a complete card set, that would be different. They wont though and therefore I probably wont be playing this.
Love listening to rich i have TWO FAT LARDIES Platoon forward which is just brilliant….it can be used with Bolt Action it give each of your soldiers in your platoon character traits, like honorable or selfish, it bring them to life plus it can make solo games in bolt action excellent using Platoon forward i will definitely be looking into this campaigns and Chain of Command.
Hi Justin, It is very nice of you to invite me to join you for Sunday gaming – First it is 9:00 am Sunday morning here and the earliest flight I could get (assuming I could afford the last minute airfares) would be mid afternoon – arriving … ok would never make it!! Anyways thank you for the invite, maybe next time I visit the UK, my wife, Dawn, and myself may come visiting… well maybe….. Lots of laughter, Tom from the Land Downunder, Aotearoa Keep up the good works and Congrats on the new gamer joining the family..
Always wanted to try Chain of Command, looks good.
Chain of Command and the Pint Sized Campaigns are some of the best games I have played with my gaming mates
Just love the Lardies Games, Chain of Command is one of the most inovatives of then all
Great Show guys. I’ve been flirting with the idea of Chain of Command for sometime now, and that campaign system sounds brilliant. I hope you guys post some of those Chain of Command games Justin and Rich have been playing.
Massive congratz Warren and family, hope mother and baby are comfortable and well.
Loving the idea of the pint size crusades for Chain of Command..
Damn predictive text and my thumbs ‘campaigns’ ;-P
Chain of Command with all the extras is a great game, good rule set that allows for good story telling. Good to see those guys over in the studio.
I love the sound of the Pint sized campaigns – lots of flavour and narrative. Keeping track of what your commander and troops think of you is a really nice touch. I think I may need to buy a “pint” or two…
Another thing I like is the fact that most of the TFL rules etc are available as PDF downloads – great for someone living in the antipodes who suffers from expensive postage and a lack of patience 🙂
CONGRATULATIONS @warzan although Andrea has done all the hard work! hope you and the little ones enjoy the new addition its great news.
The pint sized campaigns for Chain of Command sound really good and fun. I haven’t played Chain of Command yet but I’d like to give it a go at some point. As far as what campaign I’d like to see, it would be interesting to do a US Marine island hopping campaign in the Pacific. Each campaign series could be for an individual island so you could have several books/series for each island as you make your way towards Japan.
congratulations @warzan, a great show guys downfall & gloom are very interesting looking games.
Played CoC couple of times and liked it, and is a nice alternative to Bolt Action
Congrats @warzan. That’s awesome!!!
I like the Chain of command campaign idea. Especially the following a unit all the way through the war. That sounds epic.
Will have to see if my buddies have tried it yet. We have used BA but this sounds lnteresting!
I forgot to say, as a Kiwi, I’d love to see pint sized campaigns for less well known battles, like Crete – defending the island against German paratroopers. Or the Greek campaign. Also I think the desert battles have a lot of scope for all sorts of campaigns – but the LRDG would be a perfect candidate.
Hi Guys – great show!
On the Primaris, only the Repulsor (from the instructions in the box) says that it can transport 10 primaris (gravis count as 2 primars in this calculation)
The Corvus Blackstar Cannot transport Primaris from the errata.
The Vehicle called ‘Rhino Primaris’ can transport 6 infantry, but cannot transport primaris (though I expect there will be an errata for this – there is no errata (and also no model) at the time of writing.
Just Check this – the Rhino Primaris is the old command rhino and nothing to do with the new Primaris (currently a forgeworld exclusive) – it is nothing to do with the new Primaris
(that should be Warhammer world exclusive)
Listening to Rich talking about games especially the pint sized campaigns encapsulates what wargaming is about for me. Being designed to keep all parties engaged learning some interesting history. Really liked the bit about naming characters, it reminded me of the old joke about how you get good at wargaming, you name all your models and when they die you sit down after the game and hand write a letter to each of their mothers.
Happy weekend!
Chain of Command sounds very nice and this concept could be used for Sci-Fi games too i bet…
It would be nice to tackle the Battle of the Ardens with this…
See you on sunday!
Have a happy weekend. Have ordered Shadespire and can’t wait to play it.
Played a little Chain of Command – love the Pint Sized Campaign concept – been collecting them to run next year (in process of packing to move house atm).
What would I like to see in a Pint Sized? – I suspect that something based around Australia’s 39 Battalion in the Kokoda campaign would be interesting – green troops with very little support fighting against seasoned Japanese troops in, let’s face it, hellish conditions. A great example of the “improbable-but-it-did-happen” actions that Rich described.
Something in the Bardia and Tobruk areas might also be fun – though I will admit to the appeal of fielding a captured Italian tank decorated with big white kangaroos might have something to do with that!
Have a good weekend all!
Chain of Command is a class game and can be used for many different period too like the Spanish Civil War and Very British Civil War as way as the Second World War. I would love to see an extended D-Day Dodgers campaign as they march up Italy
I think a Burma campaign would work really well
I don’t play Bolt Action for varying reasons but I don’t see why these pint sized campaigns couldn’t be converted across quite easily to this or any other post WW1 game including scifi
Liking the idea of those Pint Size Campaigns. Plus £3.60 isn’t a bad price for a pint!
Chain of Command sounds like a good game to pick up to slot in with Bolt Action and Nuts!
Great show guys! Chain of Command sounds awsome going to try it 😀
@Az – don’t worry so much about hurting a baby. I was exactly the same before I had my two girls. Both are hale hearty! Babies are a lot tougher than they look!
I like the look of both of those Kickstarters. I am surprised BoW has not mentioned 7th Continent at all, though. That was HUGE!
The TFL’s modern game had a working title of I ain’t been nuked mum. Not sure how far along its been developed or if it’s going to happen
IABNM is/was aimed at Company level – much like IABSM. CoC is Platoon level – can’t remember the working title for the modern version offhand (They don’t always match up – Dux Britanniarum was, at one point at least, “Beerwulf”)
I think Chain of Command is what I’ve been looking for. We play Bolt Action but I want something that’s a little smaller scale. CC sounds awesome.
More CoC please!
Congrats Warren!
Most def want to give those pint sized campaigns a go!
I had a lot of fun with „Through the Mud and the Blood“, so I think I should give „Chain of Command“ a try. The background generation and campaign system really sound fun.
I’ve been eyeing this system up. A starter bundle would be awesome!
Chain of command sounds interesting
I’m also really pleased to see Richard on the show and looking forward to more Two Fat Lardies.
I’ve got Chain of Command, ready through most of it, thought ‘gosh, this is very different to the fantasy / SF games I usually play’ but also ‘gosh, there seems like a lot of interesting ideas in this game, I’d love to try them out’. Although I havne’t managed to yet.
The campaign system sound very good – especially for people who can’t commit a lot of time!
I would guess Monte Casino would make a good pint sized campaign.
The German invasion of Crete might be interesting to see done this way.
And some less historical historical scenarios would be cool too… A ‘what if’ invasion of Gibraltar? ‘Where Eagles Dare’ turned into a wargame?
I’m tempted by the Chain of Command starter bundle. The scouting rules make for a really interesting dynamic. Even if you play other WW2 games it’s worth a look to get ideas for ways to vary deployment.
The Chain of Command campaigns sound very interesting!
I am interested in Chain of Command
Great show folks! I’ve been curious about Sharp Practice 2 and Chain fo Command for awhile now. I’m going to have to give them a harder look.
Tempted to pick up a COFC starter bundle..
I love playing Chain of Command and particularly enjoy the narrative style of games that Richard and the Too Fat Lardies develop.
For WW2, I would love to see 2 pint sized campaigns – (1) following Easy Company of the US 506th Parachute Regt (obvious choice!) or (2) the exploits of 1st Battalion Royal Fusiliers (my dads regiment) in Italy 1943 to 1945 – the forgotten army covering Anzio etc. where Roger Walters (Pink Floyd) father died.
I love TooFatLardies games!
Two Fat Lardies doing Cold war goes hot, that sounds excellent.. and modern warfare, looking for to seeing both of them 🙂
pint size campaigns are excellent 🙂 🙂
Great show. Sorry I’m late getting…life sometimes gets into the way.
I wonder if the pacific theater will be covered in these pint size campaigns, I would live it if they were. Chain of Command is a great game that adds elements to wargaming like ability to continue the offensive when your higher ups think maybe you should not be the one doing it lol
Well that left me speechless… winning the Dragon was a total surprise so THANKS! Looking forward to trying to paint it to bring out the best in the model. After far too many years to count the wife has just rolled her eyes at my excitement!
I really like the look of Shadespire. The minis look fantastic and I really like that it’s a low model count game. I’m afraid I don’t have a lot of free time for larger games with high model count.
Yea, pledged for Downfall. A great show, thanks guys, and of course, congratz to the Warzan family.
most intriguing for me is the chance to have a fully fledged campaign yet not take up a huge part of my limited yearly days of hobby.
Congratulations to Warzan and family
chain of command has always been one im aware of but never looked into. i didnt realise it was 28mm!
@gambit505 It can be any scale you want. As far as I know TFL have never pretentious enough to say a game should be played in a particular scale
Congratulations @warzan
wow that chain of command prize sounds amazing surely i get picked this time it give a reason to dust of my bolt action army lol
I’ve wanted to play CoC and IABSM for ages now!
Awesome show. Thanks guys. And congrats @warzan
Chain of Command sounds really interesting! Love the narrative way it plays with units recieving casulties going into the next game with fewer men. And the fact that you are being watched by a superior who gives you reinforcements or not depending on your status. Likewise what a great idea with the men respecting you as their commander…and being able to get a medal of valour!
I hope to win this deal and will grab some of those pint sized campaigns.
Which scenario would I like to play?…Think it would be the 101st going into Carentan or Saint Eglise sûr Mer.
Chain of Command is a great looking game
Not just great looking – its a great fun game. Kinda simple, yet complex.
Probably the most enjoyable WWII game I’ve ever played.
Bloody awesome!
Awesome games!
The names that TooFatLardies give their games are great, pint sized campaigns, classic double meaning….I also like that they include some history for every campaign. The concept of the effects of one game carried forward in the campaign will leave you having to make some hard choices at times. I think you might get quite attached to some specific models in the process.
Shadespire looks amazing
Glad to see Lardies getting some coverage, I’ve not dipped into any of there publications yet, ,mostly on account of Osprey wargames such as Bolt Action, and Lament range. There talked of very positively so will be watching this articles with interest.
I always liked skirmish games
I’d like to get the chain of command in my hands.
I like the approach the Lardies take about publishing
I have seen all the videoes TFL have made on YouTube about Chain of Command and I really like the gameplay. The way the deployment bases are placed before the game begins is a nice idea and a way of tactical thinking that could be exploided by a planning player…a way of making a unique deployment zone each game.
I like the way you roll command dice and look at the results to see what units are able to activate this turn..and that you can combine a 1 and a 2 to get a really needed 3 result (but at the loss of an activation – 2 dice end up as 1).
It gives the game more control, as you know which and how many will be activated and you know which turn its gonna be next round…it takes much of the randomness out of the normal dice activation mechanics from say Bolt Action.
Im a fan!
