Guild Ball Week: Faction Guide – Mason’s Guild
April 24, 2017 by dignity
If you are looking for a Guild Ball team with a winning mentality how about a Guild that has won the Championship two years in a row. In this Guild guide, we take a look at the Masons.
Watch Guild Ball Week
The Mason's Guild is a flexible team that will change strategy depending on the opposition or even mid-turn if the situation calls for it. They are considered to be very honourable and tends to buff one another rather than mess with their opponents

Keep the guild ball videos coming
Yes! Guildball is getting some BoW Love again!
I like the aesthetic of these minis.
Great review. Keep it up
Ohhhh Jack of all trade faction that can give activation to another mini ….. Love that
love the double play from the sisters
Well my teams’ videos were number one and number two. Yeah Honour and Harmony can wombo combo like no other especially if Marbles is in the mix too. I’ve had more succuss with the Masons that with my Alchemists but both are fun.
When I ordered the Kick Off! box I thought I’d end up playing the Masons. I love their sense of honor and what their different players do, on paper. Turns out flexibility just means being able to make more wrong choices, for me! lol
I ended up playing the Drunks instead. They’re pretty straight forward, knock you on your keister kind of players.
These models are gorgeously painted. Unfortunately the plastics aren’t quite as nice. I’ve also picked up seven of the Fisherman’s Guild in metal, though, and they’ve been a joy to paint.
Are all the factions as tricky as the masons. This is a beginner friendly force. I cannot wait until my copy gets here.
Are you sure he’s able to carry a hammer into one of these matches?
Mason’s rock’s 😉
loving the monkey/gibbon mini and the sculpts for the others as well
Sounds like a good guild to learn with like Justin said. Minis look great also.
this is my guild! and i’m happy that hey’re finally brought up to the right scale with kick off. i just hope we will see honor again in the future!
Just picked up the hunters, but after listening to this, really like the sound of the Mason’s Guild as well. Thanks for doing the videos. Looking forward to starting Guild Ball myself, so great seeing the videos.
Been thinking about getting into Guildball for a long time now. Looks great!
Beautiful looking team and loving the Synergy of the members!
Looks like a solid team
Masons look like a good all-around faction. Being flexible tactically is a great advantage.
Keep this coming, guys!
Very good looking minis
Ah, the Masons. Love Mallet’s powerful charge threat! Especially if you give him the ball to kick-off, he can be in and swinging before you know it.
What happened to going through the factions alphabetically…Lol @dignity
LOL! I was coming to comment the same thing
Might have to grab the box of metal masions in my near by store. Did not realise the models were so nice.
The minis for this game are just phenomenal!
I have a question, in the video they mentioned the Masons have a “Season 2” captain. I know that Season 3 is now available. Does this mean that some characters are no longer valid in future seasons and are replaced or is this just a way for you to purchase more characters to give you more meta game choices? I am trying to gauge how much is choice or “must have” making this a game of which player has more money to purchase more characters.
I was wondering the same thing. What’s the difference between the seasons?
The season 2 captain is Hammer. You can play with any combination of captains and players in no matter what season rules you are using so you can still play as Honour with a bunch of season 2 & 3 Mason players. In the story, Honour was maimed and is no longer on the Masons team, but on the table, you can still use her.
There are veteran versions of players as well, so there’s a season 2 Veteran Harmony who has different abilities and no longer synergizes with Honour (better sculpt too). You can still play season 1 Harmony with any other combination of Mason team members, but I honestly think vHarmony is a stronger mini, even without the free activitions from her sister.
As far as I know, Steamforged intends to keep all models playable for the forseeable future.
As for how much you have to spend to play, you really only need 8 players to make a full team (two sit out each game, but you can mix up your line-up depending on who your opponent brings). I have every Mason mini, but my team is usually comprised primarly of season 1 minis. The older minis are still effective. The new ones just bring new tricks to the table that you may want to play with or may not.
New players are added each season but that doesn’t effect who you can play in the game, just gives you new options. Character are introduced and some even die or change teams in the fluff but all models released models are legal when building teams.
Alchemists were my first team. Not many people played so I put it aside. Seems like it’s gaining some traction now though. It’s a great game for sure and the minis are lovely.
First thought on Guidball was that it was a BloodBowl rip off. But now I know it to be so much more!
Far superior to Blood Bowl in every way! And a perfect example of why you should never judge a book by it’s cover!
Loving these models!
Masons I am expecting Tough and hard hitting
with a solid defence
“Chisel” appears to be miss-named. She is armed with a big hammer, when she should specialize in detailed sculpting.
I like the idea of how flexible this guild is.
Starting to get interested in this game
another great set
Guildball!!!!
I don’t know if these guys are my favourite on paper, just because there are some really fun sounding mechanincs in some of the other guilds I seen. I really like the look of the hunters and the morticians.
That being said as the starter box seems like the best way to get into the game I’m sure I’d have to have a few games with the masons, and that sounds like no bad thing.
It’s the working man’s class
I need more GB Players in my gaming club
I like the Mason’s guild the most
Love my Masons!
Me and my friend played our first game on sunday with the Kick Off box and i picked the Masons (thanks to the weekender chat…) and i love them!
The minis are super and love the flexibility of the team 🙂
This is my least favorite guild, model-wise. Except for the armadillo.
Looking at a change of pace for playing, as much as I love my butcher I do fancy a bit of a ball playing game, these are in the collection (twice thanks to kick off)and an option. The flexibility is great and the ‘game breaking’ abilities can provide some great options. They definitely award planning. Marbles and Brick also offer double counter charge, which presents the opponents a nice little puzzle to unpick.
Anyone looking to get in the masons in with the kick off are a great team, I have been playing against them using the kick off set with a mate who now looks like taking the plunge into hunters. The armour is helpful and they are team that as you learn has a lot of depth to offer. All team do but I think the masons have a lot of nuances to the play.
The ‘good guys’ actually sound a bit sneaky with that Honour and Harmony combo.
Just remember that it does leave you an activation short later in the turn. A great move, but one you need to be careful with!
Masons I have only played against once. Fortunately I don’t think my friend knew what he was doing as based on this interview the only character s he was using correctly were Brick and Marbles. Thank %%^% he tried to have a punch up with the Butchers rather than score and he didn’t use the sisters properly ….. It stands as one of my few wins (3 wins from 7 ….I still love the game, it’s a barrel of laughs)
Having played enough tabletop games, I’ve found “forgiving to player cockups” is the playstyle I get on with best.
I have to ask: Why a monkey?
Why not?
Love the faction, but also went with the Brewers!!
Enjoying this coverage.
This faction sounds fun.
These looks like an interesting guild to play.
Awesome
That double move of the sisters looks pretty sick… also I was quite interested on how seasons work, thanks for the comments explaining it… I love games that have some evolution on the characters and storyline!
I like Flint the most and Brick with his Counter Charge :)!
Nice minis but doesn’t sound like the faction for me
I got to play a demo game of guild ball at Salute and was really interested in the mason’s ability to chain activation’s, but I don’t think they are going to be the faction for me.
Think this will be the faction I’ll be playing with
Really like the big guy, Hammer and the armadillo pet and I like paying the good/ornot so worse guys.
I like the minis, but still have the Brewers top of my list.
Masons are okay, I prefer the Brewers, Morticians and of couse the Union.
Still unsure what would be a good starting faction.
LOVE this one!
Monkeys rule!!!!
I like the look of the Masons. Nice sculpts, but still the Hunters for me. Can’t wait for the vid of them
Played the Masons in a demo game. They are very much one of my favorites so far.
I can see why this faction was included in the starter box, simple but powerful play style.
That monkey mini looks great
Masons also gets me interested in!
One of these days I’ll get round to playing Guildball, and when I do this will no doubt be my faction.
these have som really lovely minis
Brick looks great!
Nerds of the sport
Absolutely live these guys, they look awesomr
Masons is one of those factions I like because of the adjustability, but shy away from because of the lack of character (which comes with the territory, of course)
very nice figures and yet more temptation……..BUGGER!
Think the brewers are more up my street, but as you get both in the box a bit of game play will find out.
Very nice
Models with unique syngery is great.
Dont forget about the high armour values of the Masons!…And love to Mallet who is my favourite Mason player!
I like the models and the flexibility could be helpful. Still going to wait to hear about all of the factions before choosing one.
Definitely a nice solid team. It’s the one I gently pushed the wife too and she’s loved them.
brilliant sculpts, worth getting just for the miniatures
Not sure I really got a feel for these in the demo, although that big hammer is awesome.
Guild Ball is so good, just got into last month
The masons are currently my team of choice. I’m running Honour, harmony, Mallet, Tower, Marbles and, of course, Flint.
The Masons would be lost without Flint!
From reading the comments I now know that there is a developing storyline that somewhat affects the game. That is pretty neat. Still like the fact that you can still use any of the miniatures even with the developments.
These are some amazing sculpts, very dynamic
The Masons are the team I have played my single game with. Great fun, despite losing horribly! Flint did score once for me though, so it wasn’t all bad! Great game!
I like their playstyle. But alchemists still wins on style.
Mymy how nicely painted thouse figures are!
I’ve found the minis from the kick off set really fun to paint.
Looks like the new player guild. I’m usually not a fan for factions built for that purpose but the flexibility looks like it would make them interesting even at high level play.
The masons are my second team. They seem like a good middle-ground for the game
Loving the look of The Mason’s Guild, i like the little extra`s that they can use during a game.
They could be the guild i`ll go for, but first let`s see what the other guilds have to offer first.
It was fun!
Those paint jobs are amazing. Love the details of the mini’s in this game.
i like the masons
i love these miniatures
Looked at these a while ago, they’re starting to peak my interest again, especially seeing theasons and engineers especially
I really like the style of this guild, the color and combined with the metal armor plates almost give them a “noble” look. They sound very versatile as a guild and sounds like this might be a good starting point, I suppose this is why they are in the starter set….
Loving how they incorporated the masonry attitude(s) into the mechanics. Solid design concept considering background like that.
I also like the mixture of solid down-to-earth building with high(er) values and flashyness reflecting that masons of earlier times combine what we today see as builders and architects.
The double tap tag team is very cool.
As are the mascots.
I think Masons look rather simple to play but are actually really hard to play well with all the decisions made very early in the turn, which will influence activations later in the turn.
Really a fun looking game. The starter set is a great way to get friends into the game
Double tap away then?
I like flexible teams. Sounds like a winner.
This is a team that plays a lot differently than I would normally play, but it seems fun no the less.
Chisel is the only model I have from this range. I bought her as an unconventional apprentice for Frostgrave. She is just a magnificent model. When I assembled her I was almost pushed to buy more models from the range just for the sake of it. I haven’t painted her yet though. 🙁
No armadilo looked this cool ever
This is one of my favorit factions. very cool that its one of the factions in the kick off box
Not a fan! Give me the butchers instead.
Didn’t realise they release new models for each team with each new ‘season’. That is very cool!
Strong team, great advantages with honor and harmony’s special ability’s
A pal just gave me the Mason half of the starter box, I’m excited to give this game a try!
Not sure they’re for me, liking alchemists better.
Lovely models – really torn between which faction to go for!
