Weird movies to inspire WWII action? Say no more! Dead Snow and Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead (surely something to inspire @shayott with Russians). Yet again, another good show.
Thanks for the suggestions!
@brennon Have a look at the film Attack with Jack Palance. It’s a great underrated movie about a squa of American infantry squad in WW2
I will put that on the list – sounds intriguing
Wasn’t the MX-5 originally nicknamed the Hair dressers car when it first came out.
A true gunner would be pulling that lanyard inside the Basilisk. On the M109 we use to pull the lanyard whilst stood inside, only the Americans pulled it outside. We did it for speed, on a charge 8 (highest charge) the returning breech would reach centimeters from your knees.
Sometimes in artillery you accidentally put the wrong charge in, like my gun did in the Gulf. We were supposed to to be using a charge 7 as we firing on an Iraqi artillery position, we accidentally shoved a charge 8 in. Over the radio came which fuckers fired a Charge 8, cause they scored a direct hit on a fleeing vehicle
Kelly’s Heroes
Where Eagles Dare
Dirty Dozen (I’m sure they had sequels?)
The Guns of Navarone / Force 10 from Navarone
And of course “a bridge too far” and D-day itself
oh … Cross of Iron
Got to have that one on your list for the Eastern Front.
Thin Red Line. It’s more ‘modern’ but it would fit.
Watched Where Eagles Dare over the weekend and The Dirty Dozen (it does indeed have sequels). Really liked Where Eagles Dare and didn’t see the twist(s) coming.
I have been focusing heavily on Bolt Action the last two weeks fleshing out units for scenarios that I’ve always wanted to build boards for. While doing that I finally pulled the trigger on Warlords three boxed sets featuring ‘Kelly’s Heroes’. I’ve eyed them for years and just last week decided to treat myself. Planning to do several scenes/scenarios from that movie. ??
It seems the heavy water movie (Kampen om Tungtvannet) from 1948 is being remastered and re-released on blu-ray this year, with English subtitles. Not confirmed, but I’ll keep my eye out.

For films with the original people involved, there’s a 1946 film about Arnhem called Theirs Is The Glory which was actually filmed in Arnhem with a lot of the original paras (including John Frost) and civilians involved. It is on Youtube.
The Airfix edition of Blood Red Skies is currently on sale for £24.99 on the Airfix website.
Also “To Hell and Back” about Audie Murphy starring Audie Murphy.
I need to weigh up if I want the Airfix edition or see if I can hunt out an old Battle Of Britain version
Could it have been 303 Squadron ?
It’s been a kickstarter last year I think.

That looks like it could be the right one!
James Coburn in Cross of Iron,
I thank you
Out
I enjoyed hand of brothers and Pacific but I struggled with mighty 8th which I felt Memphis had covered in one film. There is also the nostalgia of getting snuck into a theatre to watch it on the big screen. One I recommend highly is greyhound with Tom hanks, fast paced and full on gritty action. It’s on Apple + mind. I really enjoyed the remake of midway which very nearly got me into victory at sea….and might still do. The greats like bridge too far, battle of the river platte and merrils maurarders still play big part in my… Read more »
The Chinese film 800 is worth a watch

Cross of Iron, Talvisota, Das Boot, Letters from Iwo Jima/Flags of our Fathers, Stalingrad…
Plus of course Band of Brothers and Generation War.
Saving Private Ryan still does a good job, despite its rivet counter offences.
For entertainment… then it’s Kelly’s Heroes and Where Eagles Dare, followed by the recent Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare for a pop corn fuelled comic book riot of WW2.
Happy Sunday XLBSers and COGz ?
Yay Mr Edd go’s to the football ?
I have a jumper that’s older than your car, John.
They could be accidentlly removing commander’s from the command structure like they tryed in the Gaunt book’s? Guy’s
Russ returns looking like a 40K looking very Gotrick ??
Gotrek? or should that be Go-Trek??
Is that another JD Sports subsidiary?
The World at War was a big source of my GCSE history. Magisterial stuff!
I remember it was one of the few good thing’s on the T.V. apart from that new film’s on over Xmas?
“down this road, the soldiers came”
Have you seen the (Soviet) world at was dubbed version series Ben can’t remember the name but I’ve see if I can find it and stick the link up for you an the war fan’s.
It’s Soviet Storm @brennon A great series I think anyways
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=97iOxxH_64s&t=2895s
Yeah I have seen that one.
It may be a bit pro-Soviet (in the same way that Western documentaries tend to be pro-West), but it does a good job of showing that part of the war.
I’d say that for me it was the reason to want to do a Soviet force.
Yes our Stan ?Boardman? is a fantastic comedian Gerry
Ha! Yeah I heard the “these Fokkers were Mescherschmidts” tale from Stan Boardman as well.
A similar video @avernos

Fab entertaining show guy’s ?
Happy Sunday.
Love Sonic Sledgehammer’s videos. He demonstrates painting and techniques that most people can do rather than some of the “inspirational” techniques some of the more advanced guides show.
Nice Raggy Dolls reference there.
I love the idea of things on your table affecting things on other tables as was mentioned with those basilisks. I still threaten on day I’m going to take my Time Bandits minis and to a historical show and travel from table to table with them, lol.
Also A Billion Suns uses multiple tables to jump from which is cool.
Yeah he does super videos and they really get me in the mood to paint stuff and be happy with the final results regardless of “technique”.
Happy Sunday! @johnlyons the worst part about cars is the electric system as soon as it has a computer as a brain. When those start to break anything weird can happen. Everything purely mechanical can be “banged together” to a degree. Enjoy the car and the process. And stay away from cheap ebay parts. And without meaning to be mean to anybody on the team: I think this an episode I really enjoyed way more than the last few others. couldn’t put my finger on it but maybe it’s because it’s “just three dudes having a laugh about the hobby… Read more »
