First? How the **** did that happen? It must mean…
It’s the Weekend!!
“B*LL*CKS!” Is I think the appropriate word here. I briefly saw the Senjetsu KS a couple of days ago and set ‘remind me’ with the intent to take a closer look this weekend, obviously didn’t spot the Early-Bird opportunity…
I’m glad there was no mention of the interesting TV adaptatio, “The Watch”.
Damn… I just mentioned it didn’t I!
I think I threw up in my mouth
Will be interesting to see the cost and range of the new speed paints.
Happy Weekender Guys. I may be the only hobbyists who has yet to try a contrast paint. I tend to go 6mm so use tube acrylic as the cheaper option however I do like Army Painter and I’m always impressed with the results achieved by HazyBoy when using them. I’m not a fan of the GW fantasy range however I am liking the more traditional fantasy sets coming out for oathmark so I may have to did my toes. Enjoyed the Silver Bayonet article this week I can see that becoming very popular. Lovely Discworld Minis, especially the busts, I have only read the first 2 books but they seemed a lot of fun.
they get much *much* better after the first pair
First…dang, you good.
@brennon Have a look at this mate, I emailed you the link as well
https://youtu.be/W7lqp4EHC6s
Amazing!
I would really like to see a miniature range based on John Norman ‘Gorean’ series
Ah yes… “The Houseplants of Gor” an epic title
Have the Gurps Discworld RPG. Tried running it, but it’s very hard to run a comedy RPG and make it fun without it becoming really silly.
I got around that by just running it as a standard fantasy game, you can throw in dark humour occasionally if you’d like and often my group would do the same, it has comedy elements scattered through it without becoming Carry On.
Any time I tried to do it as a straight comedy it fell flat.
I had the same problem with Red Dwarf RPG.
And our often games deteriorate into Carry On [insert game here]… mainly when the dice turn against the players… which doesn’t take long.
Sounds like the few games of Vampire the Masquerade we played. Always ended up like Love at first bite
Was Love at First Bite the Leslie Nielson Dracula spoof?
Over the year we have played…
Carry On Cthulhu
Carry On Up The Dungeon
Carry On Against The Reich
Carry On Superheroes
Carry On Star Wars
There are more…
That would be Dracula dead and loving it
No weekender next week… does that also mean no XLBS? *shock*
That would indeed be the case
BOOO HISSSSsssss.
Show’s good, but Free’s shaky camera could do to be fixed for the next one. It did make me feel a bit queasy.
A little creature may have been knocking it
Yes, apologies! Kitten has been lurking… The shaking was cables being clawed at ?
YAY for the weekender.
Ho-hum. First I get tempted with Discworld minis and then when my resolve is faltering, you sucker punch me with ratkin. Bugger. Sold.
nothing is scary’er than no weekender Guys
It’s the weekender… boom time
I’m pretty sure Lion Tower Miniatures produced a set of City Watch minis on his patreon a few months back? His not-Sam-Vimes was pretty cool. https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-the-city-watch-32mm-scale-miniatures-bundle-114312
Will take a look!
It’s the Weekender. ??
And now I have to stop myself to only watch half the show and Dave half for next week!?
That should have been “Save” not Dave………dang auto-curupt! ?
the diskworld figures are looking great.
love the discworld minis. Yet another gamesworkshop boxed set? Newest gw thing I have is space hulk 4 edition so I’m not there best customer. I do buy there paint though.
I was thinking only the other day of getting some Discworld Miniatures to paint for Xmas as I’m reading ‘Snuff’ a Samuel Vimes/ Night Watch mystery adventure (39th book in series by Terry Pratchett). It’s a really enjoyable read. Great Indie recommendation. ?
i think the sormcasters were better when they were ghost/spirits.
is that a warped raindeer mouse?
a nice weekender guys.
Justin… editing whilst hammered on his Armenian brandy “Adam” enjoying his alone time with a Mutinus Tutinus shaped bottle far away from the prying eyes of the rest of the crew as they remain safely sloshed at home
“I’ve only seen the movies”.. *group grumble*..really Justin…. your better then that
It is Weekender! Imo start with “Colors of magic”. You get a overview of the world and some characters, but you have to accept characters change.
I’m looking farward toteat the new AP speedpaint colors.
Well that Samurai game is going to have to get reskinned for Jedi combat! I think I’ll have to back it for that very purpose!
oh! you little genius
I have my moments ?
I like how Fate looks just like Vetinari, but in a toga, given Vetinari is the ultimate puppetmaster deciding everyone elses fate.
where’s Lloyd when there’s a teeny tiny photo to complain about?
Have a few of the discworld miniatures … think lipwig and the 3 witches on brooms . Yet to assemble and paint though.
I was just thinking of trying contrast paint.
Now Army painters speer paint looks good.
I’m going to wait for that and get that because I already use Army painters paints.
Can’t wait till it becomes available.
Hi Guys, I only saw it briefly, but I’m pretty sure Binh Nguyen will be Vietnamese-inspired, so would be pronounced something like “Bin Nwin”. Hope that helps!
Really looking forward to getting my hands on the speed paints.
Great show
Haven’t been tempted by Saga yet but Age of Invasions might be the push I need. A skirmish game based around a collapsing empire sounds like compelling narrative which I love
Finally some free time to watch the show…
Purple Haze sounds like a board game version of Lost Patrol Amiga game ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_Patrol_(video_game) ) – could be really interesting!
Can’t wait for the Speedpaint range do be available!
Great show, got to say Guards Guards is still my favourite of all the discworld books. I seem to remember reading a sci-fi book by Terry called Strata many moons ago which I think is the only one of his I’ve read which wasn’t strictly a discworld book but they have ended up on the discworld (don’t hold me to that) but that was my gateway to the colour of magic and all the rest of the gloriousness.
The army painter speed paints look good, will keep an eye out for those next year.
I’m a fan of contrast paint but not how they flow differently from paint to paint. I’d like to see how the consistency of speedpaint will turn out.
Ah the Discworld. I found it with the excerpt of Light Fantastic in White Dwarf 80(!) Jeepers I’m old!
Never really tried out Contrast, let alone looking at another brand of similar now..
Goobertown Hobbies looked at Contrast paints two years ago, and, since they use a similar formula as Les Bursley’s wash (you apply contrast paint like a wash), I’m going to try GH’s formula first. As someone who assembly-line paints to advanced tabletop, I’ve found that I use a fair amount of brown and black for terrain, and imagine anyone painting an entire army will need a fair number of bottles of the same color. With DIY, besides saving money, you don’t have to run off to the FLGS if you find yourself low on paint or missing a color. Also, the GH contrast formula should be usable to make washes.
All you need is:
* 50% Matte medium
* 50% Acrylic Ink
* …and a little flow aid.
If you’re familiar with Les Bursley’s wash, released on Dakka back in 2009, you know that these ingredients and water are what makes LB’s wash. And you know that contrast paint is applied much like a wash.
GH wants you to experiment, so doesn’t give an exact recipe, but I’ll try 9-10 drops of matte medium to 1 drop flow aid in an eyedropper. When I want some contrast paint or a wash, I’ll add an equal number of drops of ink. If I want a wash, I’ll add as much water as I added ink. (In contrast to GW contrast, you can add water to GH’s recipe to make something similar to Les Bursley’s wash.)
I actually brush-on colored primers then use a wash, since contrast paints still require priming. Colored primers are sold in 2oz and 4oz bottles, making them less expensive than hobby paints (I buy ’em for the caps so I don’t need a palette!), and, for advanced tabletop, can also be used in place of hobby paints. I’ll still pick up contrast paints if they go on sale, but GH and LB’s DIY options give me more options when painting miniatures.

My work schedule keeps me from watching the Weekender for far too long sometimes, but seeing all the amazing Discworld yumminess makes the waiting worth it!
I’d never thought of using the nightwatch in Frost grave. Intrigued by speed paint.
