Great choice Justin for the Indie of the Week… gives me some ideas for creating an Old Worlde Tavern out of MDF?
I think Justin made a good choice this week for sure. I loved the castle!
This one just jumped out at me as something really fun 🙂
Danger Danger! HIGH Voltage!
Very much like the new Russian sculpts out of Empress Miniatures. They could be used to cover WW1 through the later civil wars with Denikins White Army. Recently read a book by Peter Hopkins ‘setting the east ablaze’ all about the Russian Revolution and impact of the civil wars on Asia. Lots to cover including the White Baron Sternberg who declared himself Emperor of Russia roasted prisoners and supporters alive generally bringing terror to Mongolia. I hadn’t heard of him but he took deep dive into horror as dark as Conrad’s col. Kurtz.
I did a lot on the Russian Revolution at college. It is a fascinating but also harrowing time. Would be interesting to see where you could go with gaming in the period.
Our school and college skipped over the whole period, I didn’t learn about Ukraine until much much later through my own reading, harrowing sums that period over such a huge area perfectly. A lot of what I read, especially about Sternberg campaign, felt like the horror Napoleons Russian retreat coupled with vlad the impaler and Heart of Darkness. I guess any wargame could be a blood on the snow encounter. I may give it a twirl but thinking about starting a William Walker Filibuster theme through foundry and Boot Hill minis, complete with a Joe Strummer, that is if I don’t go back to my original colonial French Indochina plan. Too many choices right now…
Wikipedia article on Sternberg – noted owl strangler

Not liking the way GW if doing Kill Team… feels like they are over milking. Same with Necromunda and the endless books that get replaced too often.
Maybe my phase of buying GW product is over…
Yer I do feel like it is going to be a little overwhelming in a short period of time. But – if that element of GW is your hobby then not so bad I guess.
If you’re trying to play a lot of GW games then I can see it being a lot more to deal with!
oh god yes …
I was hoping it would have been like WarCry where you got all of the core factions in the starter set.The way GW is doing it while keeping the upcoming killteams secret is just taking the piss.
The fact that the launchbox got replaced by a ‘cheaper’ set this quickly after launch was annoying as fuck too.
There’s only been two good things so far :
(1) no spacemarines
(2) new sculpts for the every killteam
I think it is safe to say that GW is back to its old ways …
Yes its weekender time.
Gerry keeps talking about Judge Dredd terrain and now all I can think is “I should get that… would also work for deadzone”
Damnit
It is pretty darn useful terrain for sure
Ooh that’s fabulous looking terrain buildings.
I’d love to build a Moonstone town board with this stuff 🙂
Nice any pictures Justin.
possibly… after Salute… XD
Nice one.
Connery’s OUTLANDER ?
Justin will be loving the MDF buildings boasting he has built so many houses as a joiner? Lol.
Wood is Wood… XD
very true Justin an the tolerances are smaller an less forgiving.
With the evil Tasha Yar Justin?
It’s the Weekender!
On the terrain the OTT crew were reviewing, (the 28mm Mega Motorway Overpass Set), @avernos said ‘Judge Dread’ and @fcostin said ‘put a Stargate at the end of it’, while I saw the elevated highspeed rail system from Wakanda in the climactic battle at the end of the ‘Black Panther’ movie, and i believe my ‘Marvel Crisis Protocol’ figures would look grand on there! ??. (now to order some sections of it)
I ordered, on release day, the ‘Cursed Crate’ from Black Site Studios. Love all of their ‘Don’t Look Back’ items. Such a fun game to play. We get really rapped up in it and start screaming, “Run Mot%*#-@$cker RUN”. Followed by, “I can’t believe you left me you Ba$+ered”. Fancy walking home do you”? I also purchased the ‘Summer Camp set’ as sooooo many slasher movies start or are completely set at a summer camp. Now I need to order a Crystal Lake t-shirt and hat!
Is that not Han Solo’s pistol the nun’s holding?
It’s the Weekend!
Did they really miss Ben’s “pun not intended but delivered” statement of painting stained glass windows being a “panes-taking process”?
I’ll get me coat…
fab show guy’s
The Funko board games would be much more interesting if you could mix the games and have the Goonies and Warriors play in the Jurassic Park game. The Truffle Shuffle vs. velociraptors would get my money.
Unmatched might be worth a look then. It does lots of fun stuff with different properties AND allows you to mix them. They even have a Jurassic Park box.
Sadly I don’t think I’ll be watching the Weekender until tomorrow morning now – had a late finish last night at work, and then I’m on family IT support duties this morning before going into the cinema at 12 to watch all 3 Lord of The Rings movies 🙂
Might have to compare notes with @brennon after-woulds….
Spending the day watching all of the Lord Of The Rings is a good excuse not to be watching The Weekender.
It was awesome. Won’t deny I was getting choked up at certain points.
The tau kill team aren’t new sculpts, its the old kit with an upgrade sprue, just like they did with the Cadian troop set, but i do believe the upgrade sprue contains a couple new leg poses, and weapons
Justin and Free so hyped about some “famous” pizza review guy… Gerry: WTF? XD
Gerry is not alone in his WTF moment
Having just posted on the “anti-shiny” thread, the MDF terrain and 3d printed demonic terrain are both challenging my resolve.
Happy Saturday.
I discovered Uncertain Scenery early last year when I was looking for a radar dish. I looks like a mini Jodrell Bank and the lattice work behind the dish is quite cool. You can fully rotate the dish and tilt it from vertical to horizontal. I’m guessing the windmill would have similar movement.
I also follow them on Facebook and he’s constantly experimenting with new builds, some more complex than others.
Very Galaxy Quest there Gerry
never give up never surrender
So how close are we to the big prize?
@avernos, @brennon, @dignity & @fcostin
on the wargames atlantic italians and partisans,
my wifes family are italian and infact there were uprisings during Mussolini’s reign, in her village in the south, angry at the long laws around the government stealing all their food and leaving them nothing to live off, they rose up kicked out the fascists and set up their own republic (pre-allied invasion) in their village, also her family were ardent socialists and were threatened numerous times, so you could easily do small scale skirmish actions around this.
Furthermore, many italians ran to the hills to not be forced back into the army when the germans invaded, by the time ww2 kicked off a reasonable amount of italians were already fairly annoyed with the government, so lots of background to work with in that frame of reference. her nonna remembers when the germans had come to the village and she said people were scared as they weren’t very friendly.
also that blacksite studio pizzaria is awesome! perfect for my sopranos project….which i need to update
also the warriors game is within the top 5 things to buy in the near future!
and the star trek card game is one a friend will love as a present
Uncertain Scenery looks like it would work on my Judge Dredd board.
