Happy Sunday!
I love big tanks and I cannot lie…..
I’d love to do a Late WWII German force in 28 and 15mm. Both forces centred around a Maus (i know, I know so don’t start!) with some tigers (I&II), Panthers, Elefants and Pumas backed up by Panzer Grenadiers. Obviously it would be a bit big for Bolt Action, but maybe suitable for Tank War?
It’s the XLBS Show…………Happy Sunday Fellow CoGs!
Does a completely scratch-built, very movie accurate, Star Wars Legion-scaled Lambda-class Imperial Shuttle with rotating stabilizer fins and an optional landing gear count as a BIG PROJECT? After 8 months, it is finally finished:
https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1629987/
There are passion projects and then your Sistine Chapel cieling level of insanity, good fellow. Good to hear the news and I hope you rest a little before the next thing you do.
nope, that only counts as one thing 😛
Okay – now I HAVE to do my screen-accurate, Star Wars Legion-scale AT-AT next. I’m serious! 🙂
Another good week in hobby for the Sexual BS (as Gerry isn’t here to proclaim).
@brennon Your Arthurians require paint and need to be done before @lloyd gets onto his Pagan Rus. We’re counting on you to kick him into gear. Its either that or animate gifs of Ace Ventura popping out of S-tanks.
@dignity We await seeing your next thing of beauty to grace the tables. Many many ideas and a Shae on the show to fight against from time to time.
@johnlyons Your Red Brigade will be forthcoming. I can see it now, you’ll move onto the next army before you’ve got paint done on anything other than your test model….heh heh heh
Good stuff from other CoGs and a good kick to my own backside to get back to work on projects. Alright, back to the grind I go with gold NMM… argh.
What this man said @brennon – your Arthurians require paint and need to be done.
lol I can talk.
John Vlog is great idea! please follow this idea i like short series
Must admit as cute as Pascal was/is, Dogs are so much better ?
Really enjoyed today’s episode. Would 100% back a John Cold War tank documentary ?
Big projects I’m currently inclined to are
Kublai Khan and the Mongol invasion of China, building a Mongol army. I’ve been re-watching Marco Polo on Netflix lol.
Another is a Team Yankee project where China has invaded Hong Kong, so Brits and Hong Kong units against PLA. I’d even go mad and build a Downton Hong Kong table for a full on urban warfare games.
Happy Sunday! Thanks for another great show!!
A couple of weeks ago? I only just finished watching that on last week’s weekender.
Time is behaving awful funny these days….
Cheers for my the Golden Button. Really appreciate it. The Tiger is actually 1/72 scale Tiger tracks, but the rest of it is British Tamaya 1/35 scale parts just to build up a hull over a bracket. And the old coat toggle engine parts were a nod to a tiger too.
They were really fun to put together. My son had the exact reaction you described. “It looked a bit rubbish when you bodged together, but now you painted it, it looks quite good.” High praise. ?
?Hi COGz?
Don’t forget the bunker under the cross in the passhendaele memorial grave site.
Today’s episode is brought to you by John an chobham armour.
Congratulations to the golden button winners: beautiful projects!
Listening to XLBS makes me want to dive into games I’ve never considered or found interesting settings before.
As for big projects: I’ve been thinking about diving into Napoleonics with a Russian force. That, or a gritty Sludge army!
Happy Sunday.
Three very nice Golden Button winners there and hurrah for more Space Station Zero mentions.
Nice job with the show @brennon I rate you 11 out of 10 badgers.
As for big projects I’ve got an old Warhammer dwarf army that’s almost all metal but hasn’t seen much in the way of paint. I bring it out now and then to have a look at the miniatures and remind myself of what I have then, a few days later, I put it all away again. I’d love to get it battle worthy again, maybe for Kings of War of One Page Rules.
Burrows V Dragons Ben?
Great show guy’s.
Don’t forget to hide the dug if Gerry visits in case he go’s missing as a snack Justin ?!?
Happy Sunday

Happy sUnday,
I have massive terrain pieces. I also watch the Greatest Movie ever made. Sometimes i do both
Yes to more John vlogs and documentaries. Not fussed about video length.
Happy Sunday, got it in the right place this time…..Ben you read my mind, A dragon rider army but with a twist where there are Sky battles with just the dragon riders.I think there was game a few years ago with pre-painted Dragons and ground troops but can i remember it, but i wonder could you adapt the X-wing rules for the dragons, oh now there’s a thought me thinks i will have to look into this, i know me and my grandson would love this.
You should time your Bovington trip with the one day wargames show in July, you could then spend three or four days thoroughly covering both.
I would love to see a vlog on the East German force.
Large projects!
I would love to finish my Samurai project from hell ?
I would love to build a Necromunda table from scratch with canals and multiple floors as well. ?
Next big project will be working through the Barons War Outremer Kickstarter. I went all in, so there’ll be a nice heap of metal arriving early in the New Year.
A roman legion. I keep looking at the 10mm from Pendraken, then at rescalling rulesets, wondering who they would fight and what fantsay elements i would add. Before promptly sighing and closing down the tabs. Hopefully next year.
Well John think that Team Yankee force should work well, to quote quantity has a quality of its own.
Did try a test game with a similar styled force on my Team Yankee project, with a Mass of Soviet Equipment vs an Elite unit of American … no infantry or helicopters in is as trying to to get head round basic rules.
not as many T55’s as you had, but found American force had bigger fish to fry , and ended up being outflanked as you postualated, and 5 of M1A3’s bit the dust, which was most of the points in there force.
Not saying anything against the hordes of T55s but just wanted to say a few words on what killed Team Yankee in our club, at least in 15mm , we are actually resurrecting our micro armor ( 6mm or 1/300 ). Main issue is on a table, the warpac became parking lots where artillery was the best thing to buy for NATO as they had to be bunched up.
another thing was the cost of units, you could not field enough to beat Warpac as modern NATO vs old russian was unbalanced. Was the 115mm good enough to defeat a M1 abrams….ok, controversial but the gulf war proved M1 was impervious to T72 guns so AT vs Armor was just wrong, i know its’ a game but its just wrong.
Another was the motivation for Warpac, were east germans that indoctinated to be that powerful vs NATO ….given how quickly East Germany collapsed, i think Battlefront got the morale wrong, only maybe Russians would be good against NATO, otherwise, Warpac not that eager to fight, given that they would defect when they could. If push came to shove, i think the warsaw pact armies would be mop up forces, not front line, my thoughts on the matter. US still had M60 tanks , M1 just joining so T72/T62/T55 vs M60 and a few M1s is most likely.
and don’t get me started on the A10’s….never has a weapon been so underwhelming as the A10’s in TY. I know warpac would have AA but the a10s should be able to hit i would say more than 4 targets with it’s cannon, our house rule was 2d6 shots, and if it hit a line of units, choose a target and 1d6 in front and 1 d6 behind the initial target….it was always devestating but it worked ( the russians were given the rule of ending waves, if a unit is destroyed, another comes on to replace it if it rolls the morale ( the hordes of commie tanks ). Again, nice to see it painted but TY in modern era is just not representative. I like 1973 October war for US soviet match up, brutal fights ( thanks Oriskany ) and shows what could have happened and why the M1 was a game changer in terms of tank development ( i know, the design is old but it’s still useful and works, nothing but trouble with autoloaders and RC tanks just not there yet. My 2cents +2 cents more.
