Happy Weekend. Thanks very much for the mention guys and best of luck with all the projects.
@avernos If that 3D space hulk is by Mark. He lives up on the North coast somewhere
Hi – if you’re talking about the Competition Space Hulk that’s mine. Living in the North West (Londonderry) but travel to play. Playing the Tyranid ship at Beacon in Belfast next weekend – Lord Willing!!!
The last Warhammer Quest I picked up was the original box back in … ’97? I had the painted version on display in the local shop for a couple years.
This Blackstone Fortress is a great idea, taking Quest into 40K, brilliant 8^)
That Joseph McCullough game. If it’s solo play does it mean you always play the Lone Ranger?
From my understanding it’s your Kone Ranger plus a group of hired hero’s
It’s for 1-4 players. Each one has a Ranger (think Aragorn) with the number of companions varying based on the number of players.
Hope there will be even more heroes to choose from for blackstone fortress.
Blackstone Fortress looks like a lot of fun. I like that is is cooperative and you have to work together.
I wish this site had less clutter guys 🙂
Send me a PM please mate outlining a bit of detail on what you mean (which bits are clutter etc)
Always happy to see if we can streamline 🙂
Quite possibly me just being an old git. But will PM you with my whine…hope you have cheese
What flavour Vape would a Rogue Trader choose?
@tankkommander, Emperor’s Breath! All else is Heresy!
Happy Weekend, Blackstone Fortress had some awesome minis, but I don´t know about the game itself…
The weekender is a great way to end my week. Also GIVE ME BLACKSTONE ITS MINE, lol
Happy weekend! The hobby centre/shop idea is really interesting. Have you taken over another chunk of the building to fit things in?
Really looking forward to Blackstone fortress, I still need something to replace Space Crusade!
Happy Weekend. I’m curious how Blackstone Fortress will develop in the future, so far it looks quite good!
It’s the Weekend!
And what a big weekend. An interesting mix of celebration that the Great War ended and many men and women could return to daily lives (such as my grandfathers) whilst also remembering those lost along the way. Also an opportunity to recall how poor decisions in negotiations across Europe led to misery, death and even more war.
Time for some fantasy this weekend me-thinks.
Sorry – most genres are ruined by the addition of Zombies! Lazy product development, usually poorly implemented just to have an expansion/variant. Only excuse is a purpose designed game.
Exactly
Sorry @brennon, I disagree with you about feeling that Claustrophobia is somehow ‘safer’. OK, the games have been manufactured but you are still only a backer with strictly no guarantee of receiving a reward rather than a customer with distance selling safeguards. I can understand why they’ve done it, but it feels like another dagger in the back of what Kickstarter was meant to be (although the platform will be delighted with their cut).
weirdly someone on the youtube comments said the same thing about it being safer, but there is no recourse for this going south compared to a regular preorder where you can at least claim off your credit card or paypal.
Dang, I’m a grumpy old bu@@er this weekend!?!
Happy Weekender! Still watching it, but just had to comment on the Space Hulk project section. Fantastic ideas and wonderfully creative thinking by all the participants. The amazing multi level terrain tiles are the board maps from Advanced Space Crusade, I still have two boxes in the attic, but they will be coming out now! Also, Jerry’s brilliant ‘thinking outside the box’ approach to Space Hulk background, Thanks Jerry.
Super awesome video, keep them going – oh its that time yup yup – the weekender has arrived – amazing prize :-)
Blackstone Fortress looks so gorgeous! I’m very much looking forward to that.
My first minis were some lotr high elves. they were painted in shiny dark blue, white and horrible gold.. i would like to just bury them somewhere deep..
Freshly brewed coffee and Weekender. Another great Saturday morning. Also, those hobby projects look amazing.
I’m really looking forward to Blackstone fortress. Ideal game play for boxing day with a drink and cold cuts !
I sense Jerry is a bit bitter about Rowboats Codex Astartes? 😀
That’s okay my space marines are templars, and both flavours of fists so I’ve put the Legion back together, regardless of what rowboat “I can’t run a legion” girlyman thinks
Still waiting for an updated Codex Black Templars with Primaris Space Marines…
don’t bother with the primaris, fly by night new kids with less experience than a scout..pffft!
Shouldn’t that be Neophyte?
depends on the chapter, but yes it could be one of those as well
But they have better cookies!
Go faster stripes and everything!
Im definetly waiting for a new black templars codex but in the meantime I could live with some rules for using primaris as space marines so that they use the same equipment as the old troops. I want to use primaris instead of regular space marines and then say that they are “regular space marines” as they should been from the beginning.
Now they are run as their own squads instead of reinforcing the existing squads.
As someone who’s been collecting Wolves on and off since Rogue Trader, and who has Crimson Fists as his “vanilla” Marines list I can appreciate someone who’s all in on the sons of Dorn. Going for a “Last Wall” protocol force by anychance?
no I started this as a crusade force a long time ago, back when the fluff said it was rare to see full armies of marines in action together, instead campaign forces were raised from various places depending on what was needed.
When we played a lot of Epic we always thought the main army should have been Imperial Guard with a couple of small detachments of Space Marines allowed in the list
makes sense, throw the guard at the problem and use the marines as special forces
That’s my current goal – I’m in the progress of stripping my old (3rd ed) all-infantry Catachan army, rebasing my all-metal Cadian army (finished weeks prior to the announcement of the plastic Cadians >_< ), bulking out the Plastic Cadians and adding a dusting of Tanith, Steel Legion and enough Kasrkin to do someone a mischief. Add Space Wolves, Crimson Fists, Deathwatch, Grey Knights Custodes and Imperial Knights to flavour 🙂
And I may be trying to decide whether to use all the remaining Marines I have lying around to do a Crusade list with each squad drawn from a differing Chapter….. There is a good chance i have a LOT more Marine kits knocking around than I realised…
pick a nice campaign badge and you’re all set 🙂
Specially as most Guardsman never ever see a marine!
Bit like the WW2 German soldier asked what he thought the best tank of the war was, Sherman he replied, it wasxthe only bugger he ever saw!
I remember the first story about the grey knights, only 5 landed on the planet. Killed the Blood thirster and the cabal leaders and then the planetary governor killed his subordinates himself because they couldn’t know that such a valuable resource existed. Fast forward twenty years and there are armies of them with walkers and you can see them from space and and and and ffs GW stop retconning interesting facets of your universe to be a intergalactic crock of shite!
Those tables look fantastic, they indeed do me think of my old gaming store I went to.
Blackstone Fortress has me intrigued. It has much potential for expansion. I wish GW would follow the suit of some minis boardgames and include small plastic trays for safe storage.
Also…
AS I forgot to say my traditional line on Youtube…
WEEKENDER TIME!!!
Blackstone fortress does look like a great package. I like how they are bringing in the greater narrative into miniature form, rogue traders etc. Be even better if it were free 🙂
I think I’m a little too excited for the release of Blackstone fortress. You guys are just enabling me by looking at it more.
Happy Weekend, I would love the Blackstone fortress 🙂
Hasn’t Beast of war not done showing old painted models in the past? Because I remember posting them, I think about a year ago.
I’ve wanted a 40k version of warhammer quest for years. The minis in Blackstone Fortress look gorgeous
Happy weekend everyone!
Great show as always, would really love a nice Blackstone Fortress boxed set 😀
I cant seem to add a photo here of one of my first paint jobs maybe 20+ years ago.. but I did add it to my project log (https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1282096/#snav)
Brings back memories thats for sure, I wish I had more of my old armies from the start of my hobby.
i think my first mini would have been one of my catachan guardsman. I recall being messy with the paint ,as is tradition, and for some reason painted his open mouth green instead of black and it kind of dribbled out of the mouth. So my older buddy and far superior painter always called him spinach mouth. The best though, was my other friend who played marines. Now mind you it was a simple scheme and he actually painted them fairly neatly. The scheme was gunmetal armor and purple pauldrons then hit with some dullcoat. He hadnt gotten the hang of painting eyes so one of his minis just had a brown blob under the brow. So the same friend that named spinach mouth ( these two were brothers) wrote an entire song devoted to the marine he lovingly dubbed “poop eyes the space marine”. Set to the tune of the popeye the sailor man theme song. The following were the lyrics.
He’s poop eyes the space marine!
His eyes are not really clean!
He’s got poop on his face,
hes such a disgrace
He’s poop eyes the space marine!
I’m a bit like Justin with loads of part painted miniatures knocking about. I managed to finish a mini that’s been part painted on my desk for the last three years.
I’m trying finish projects I’ve started before starting any new ones but that’s a New Year resolution, so between now and then it’s going to be starting many more projects before finishing any lol…
Who’s this House Delakew @brennon ? 🙂
(It’s pronounced Dell-ak )
I was thinking the same thing but it’s like any made up name any interpretation is correct, see also Tzeentch, and tyranids for more info
And Dwarves
who we all know are spelled dwarfs and pronounced stunties
I was going to with something ruder or maybe inferior hobbits but stunties will do
‘Rangers of Shadow Deep’ is the big one for now. Frostgrave was the one to bring me back into gaming after over 15 years away. I especially like the idea of co-op warbands vs AI baddies, rather than all out war all of the time.
Gerry’s talk of an Ork space hulk being an asteroid immediately clicked in my head with the awesome trench board John and Justin made for Desert boot camp. I loved the idea and look of it, but had no where to use such a board. But the idea of making modular ‘trench’ corridor pieces & rooms has got my mind racing with possibilities. Could even double up for a custom ‘Blackstone Fortress’ board??
I’m off to buy foam!!
I have yet to play either of the newer Warhammer Quests. Very very tempted by Blackstone Fortress.
Sigh.
Zombies for the win. Pulp fiction in the 21st century….not original but fun!
Really like the look of the black stone fortress about time “quest “got a 40k outing
Black Fortress got my interest, not because of the game itself but for the models that comes with it. Just imagine the kitbash potential.
God, you miss a month and a new beard appears! 😛
Oh My! I really want the Blackstone Fortress!
First painted miniatures:
Lord of the Rings Uruk-Hai, carefuly following the step-by-step painting guide in the LotR Strategy Battles Game Magazine series. Result: excellent, tabletop standard models.
First painted 40k miniatures: Dark Angels, paint way too thick, Army Painter Strong Shade Dip way too thick, GW Purity Seal way too thick and frosted. Result: disasterous! Ended up scrubbing all the paint and gunk off with antisceptic solution, repaired and re-base-coated using Army Painter Angel Green. Time-Jump to today, 8 years later. No further progress, just a bad memory of me absolutely making a totally mess of some really great models.
So, what horrors and Ancient Tech are/is waiting to be discovered in a Blackstone Fortress? We now know the terrible truth: badly painted miniatures in lurid, bright colours from our early days of tabletop wargaming…
I like the inclusion of Ratlings in Blackstone Fortress. Very The Hobbit. In there for their tea-leafing abilities I hope.
Blackstone Fortress is looking awesome!
Happy Weekend guys!
Happy weekend! Im already looking forward to see xlbs tomorrow. Always nice with some more historie!
People are making some intresting projekts for Space Hulk. Im gonna look into more of those projekts 🙂
I think i should think Genstealers with space hulk, but my Brain is way to orkish for that! Its the best plaze for some ork boyz. Lots of loot, and genestealers, demons or some spiky humans to fight ;D
Blackstone fortress looks so good! Just been reading about the diffrent charcters. And the robot is pre imperial, and it “play’s” the role of being a simple robot, but it has an IA. The figures have a nice mix of new and old stuff. Beastmen is back 😀
I need blackstone just for the Eldar ranger 🙂 .Jerry you are very entertaining to listen too and should be a regular on the show.
It’s good to see GW exploring some of the more interesting aspects of the 40k universe in Blackstone Fortress.
Zombies can be added to any game and improve it? I challenge you to do this with:
Noughts and Crosses
Monopoly
Twister (Well, fine. I’d watch that being played)
Chess
You can add zombies to almost any setting, but it isn’t always an improvement, and these days its a little obvious and lazy, although I agree in many situations it is a fun extra.
Noughts and Crosses
Surrounded characters turn to the other side (zombie infection)
Monopoly
Outbreaks on squares cause crash in value and spread to other squares. You have to pay heavily for exterminations and defences.
Twister (Well, fine. I’d watch that being played)
lol yeah me too
Chess
Instead of taking pieces you turn them to your colour.
🙂
Noughts and Crosses
Interesting. I think you would need a much bigger board for that and its then straying in to a form of checkers or solitaire or something?
Chess
Sound like the N&C game you layed out and therein is the problem. if every game becomes the same, has it been improved? Good effort though.
I think you’ve gotten Noughts and Crosses confused with Othello/Go @warzan. 😉
lol
Hey everyone, hope you all have a great weekend. I have preorder Blackstone Fortress because there is sod all chance of me winning it.
Enjoyed the show, very jealous of the skill in the project system at the moment you are all smashing it out of the park.
I’ve never got into 40k but for some reason, Blackstone Fortress is really appealing. Can’t wait to play it!
yes the weekender is here!
Very much looking forward to the Rangers of Shadow Deep; will wait for the book, though. A 200-odd page PDF is misery incarnate to me.
pdfs are evil, my kindle makes a very good paint pallet though 🙂
Ha! I’ve never owned one. Related: I can’t move for wobbly piles of books.
my friend had a story published on ebook thingy only so I got one for that, a year later it was properly published in a real book, the kindle became an easily wiped clean paint tray^^
I buy small pdfs from places like wargames vault that are easy enough to print out,and I have the Libby app from NI libraries to download ebooks to see what there like but proper books are still the way to go
I’ll always take paper, parchment, or vellum over ebooks/PDFs.
If I can’t buy a set of rules or fluff in paper, then I download the PDF and print it at home.
Which leads me to say, if a company is large and capable of producing a paper rules set but does not, I tend to drop their status in my eyes down a notch. It just seems less professional.
I know that the ‘Go to excuse’ is “Oh it’s a waste of time and effort, as the rules change often and this keeps players up to date faster with electronic updates that are fast and free”.
But my response is, “Maybe this is a sign of not enough play testing before rules a printed”. Yet another sign of professionalism dropping a notch.
Or maybe I’m just a crotchety old grumpy gamer! 🙂
Anyhow, I’ll keep my printed tombs!
Blackstone Fortress is the game I’ve been waiting for since I started in the hobby with Necromunda and Warhammer Quest in the 90s.
Blackstone looks great. Happy weekend!
This comment has the single purpose to win free stuff.
Gib loot!
Blackstone fortress looks great, GW been making great models and I love it.
Pre-ordered Blackstone Fortress this morning for £70 with shipping included. It’d be cheeky not to buy it at that price!
Fantastic weekender. So much news and fun crammed in 🙂 Happy saturday all.
Blackstone Fortress looks pretty sweet. I love the chaos gaurdsmen
Blackstone Fortress has me very excited. I love the models and the game itself sounds pretty cool with the stasis mechanic and everything.
I’ve been out of 40K for over 10 years now but the Blackstone fortress set looks really nice. Too bad I don’t have any spare cash at the moment to spend on it.
Rangers of Shadow deep seems like a good game also.
Blackstone Fortress looks absolutely stunning! I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
I’m liking the look of Blackstone Fortress, interesting to see GW do their own play through video
Great show as always. Nice to see this community celebrates the efforts of everyone, no matter what stage they are at. If you are getting hobby done then we are proud to have you here.
The Blackstone navigator looks so sweet, hope they expand upon that range
Happy weekend! Lovely to see all the fantastic Space Hulk projects, a lot of effort and skills involved.
@justin — you can take your vape stick to Dr Who world and they might believe it is a sonic screwdriver 🙂
In regards to Rangers Of Shadow Deep, I kinda wish someone had taken the Diablo IP and made a game in that Universe with the Miniatures following the Shadow Deep ruleset.
I’m really liking the idea of Blackstone Fortress. It looks cool.
I have no idea what the game play for Blackstone Fortress will be like, but I’ll be getting at leas one copy for the miniatures alone. I love that they’re integrating the human and xenos this time out (as they should). Great sculpts with lots of character.
Blackstone Fortress is on my list of stuff to get. Been a bad year for GW… bought so much of their stuff…
Ork Dastardly (as I call him) arrived today… Megatrakk Scrapjet to the rest of you… he will stop that pigeon…
Great show. Thanks for highlighting some of the space hulk projects.
Blackstone Fortress looks amazing. I’m very interested in what GW has in store in terms of supporting the game. I’m not sure if it’s possible but I wonder if some kind of cross-compatibility with Kill Team would be possible. My thought would be to use the Blackstone Fortress setting as a place to run a Kill Team mission/game in.
On non-nids in Space Hulk: one of the Ciaphas Cain books has him going up against Orks in a hulk. He starts off going in with a squad of marines, but quickly gets separated from them and him and Jurgan have to make their way through the hulk to get out whereupon they stumble over the ork infestation.
@dignity: Chaos Dwarfs use magic. 😉
Pronunciation of Delaque: Is it De La Cue? I always thought it was De Lack. ?
I fall in the Del-Ack category of pronunciation
Name a game that isn’t better with zombies…
Panzerblitz…
Advanced Squad Leader…
Yatzee!
Always enjoyed Warhammer Quest and Blackstone looks amazing.
Some great project stuff there
The space hulk projects are most impressive. There are so many unique, well executed ideas it is amazing.
Excited for Blackstone Fortress, great way to get my board game friends into mini wargaming
great show again!! nice weekend!!! I would looooove to win blackstone fortress! amazing game and the minis are incredible
Neeeeeeeed some of that blackstone fortress. Intrigued by the men of iron
Great show lads. Blackstone Fortress, at last a 40K game with solo play, time to start saving.
Going by what i’ve seen so far Blackstone Fortress looks set to be the closest thing to those somewhat ‘open’ dungeon crawlers of yesteryear; those that were that wonderful canvas of possibilities and that teased, then dared you to look around the next corner. Promising.
@dignity the fleshy looking boards are from advanced space crusade on the 3d spacehulk table. ?
Had a good nose at Blackstone in the local GW. Very very cool stuff.
Happy Saturday
Another suggestion for a spacehulk would be a sleeping Necron ship that could be floating along or even inside of or embedded into an asteroid.
Mine first miniature was from dark elves warrior, and oh my .. it looks like all I knew or had from paints was silver and black 😛
blackstone
Blackstone Fortress looks seriously good, what a fantastic idea by GW. Very exciting.
Happy weekender love the hulk tables covered.
I’am realy looking forward to Blackstone Fortress.
So looking forward to Blackstone Fortress. First one sense Gorkamorka that has me waiting with baited breathe.
Gimme Blackstone fortress!! 🙂
do like the look of the new 40k
My fist mini, is one that I cast my self, did not know what primer was, and did not want to paint over paint, so you can see tenn lines between the colors, and the face did not cast well, so it is just skin tone with a smiley face painted on it 🙂
Imperial guards on a space hulk must be… interesting
Grats to the hobbyists mentioned and keep up the great work!
What an amazing looking prize!
I don’t dare post my first models. Heroquest orks partially dipped in humbrol enamels. Dark times.
Really looking forward to blackstone. Stunning minis, narrative driven game and more gorgeous minis 😀
Looking forward to Blackstone Fortress
Blackstone looks great and is hopefully a step from GW further into more narrative based gameplay! Its great to see the last couple of years bringing back the ‘independent game’ outside of the Wargame. Reminds me of the classic days that spawned original Space Hulk, Blood Bowl and those Classic Troll games (that came with Audio Tapes). Can’t remember what they were called!! 🙂
Now we just need a Proper EPIC return…. 🙂
Blackstone Fortress is looking to be an awesome game by itself but the miniatures alone are totally worth it for Kill Team and 40k.
Excellent show this week. Thanks for mentioning “Rangers of Shadow Deep.” Did not know about but will be picking up the PDF. Frostgrave and the sample file on the OBS RPG sites are a great endorsement. I jumped on the “Claustrophobia 1643” the day it opened. Always wanted to pick up the original as well as “Hell Durado” the first time around, but never could. The 30-Years War period was one with the creepiest potential. Just look at “Lamentations of the Flame Princess” RPG.
Blackstone Fortress. Games Workshop is on a roll in the right direction. They seemed to get blinders on for years with only WHFB and 40k while their entire universe was expanding. I think Forge World and 30k helped them sit back and take a serious look at what they had created. I hope they continue to flesh it all out.
And more importantly, Sunday is the centenary of The Armistice of the Great War. Here in the USA, people don’t seem to realize what history our Veterans Day has. People scratch their heads when I ask why no one sells poppies. I hope we learn to remember.
Now, it’s time to have Becca Scott teach me how to play Blackstone with her video.
Thanks again for a show worth watching, though interrupted by the Brazilian GP Quali.
@oriskany I’ve been enjoying your cenntenial series on WW1. Have you seen The Great War YouTube channel?
As for Blackstone Fortress, those minis are nice. GW has been killing it with their sculpts.
Awesome, thanks very much, @blipvertus . 😀
Actually, I haven’t seen that channel. I have been re-watching the “World War One in Colour” with Kenneth Branaugh… or at least listening to it, while we run through our Battle of Hamel 1918 test game (Valor & Victory 1918):
https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1288632/
Hope you like our XLBS video and the last part of the series to go out Monday. 😀
I’m really excited to try out Blackstone Fortress. Wonder how long a complete playthrough will take and how well the challenges scale.
Blackstone fortress looks like a lot of fun, need to crack on with my space hulk in the next couple of weeks
Blackstone does have some nice esoteric things in it I must say. Hearing good rumblings about the game itself already as well.
Some great stuff for Space hulk, my own painting has gotten de-railed. Blackstone minis look fantastic especially the kroot, still not sold fully on game play but the legacy system is intreging
Beautiful minis in Blackstone fortress
Can’t wait for Blackstone Fortress! Claustrophobia looks awesome too but i haven’t seen anything like it before. Anyone know how the mechanics work?
I really excited to see what the play is like in Blackstone Fortress as the models look awesome!
Some of those projects are above and beyond. You should have an annual BoW award for best in hobby in the Annual awards.
Great show. Oak and Iron has attracted some attention at my gaming club. Can’t buy into this one but hoping to get a game if someone dives in.
I love Frostgrave as a world and to paint models for, but haven’t got many games in. The Dark Alchemy solo scenarios were great and the new Rangers game with more RPG and solo rules sounds great.
I will try to get involved in the Space Hulk challenge. I hope making my Genestealers from Lost Patrol and my Kill Team Genestealer cults guys will be good enough for a start. I also painted some Dark Angel terminators a while ago that i would like to smarten up. I free handed the dark angel sign on a shoulder pad just to challenge myself and would like to share that as part of the project.
Rangers of Shadow Deep looks really interesting
Needs a physical copy though
Blackstone Fortress looks like a lot of fun.
Blackstone Fortress is looking pretty amazing, definitely something worth grabbing.
Also I wonder if they intend to release new heroes like they did for the AoS version of Warhammer Quest.
Blackstone Fortress looks soooo awesome!
I’m hoping GW put a lot of effort into future expansions and additional campaigns.
It’s interesting too the emphasis on cooperative over competitive play. You use AI as the enemy until you have a fifth player to overtake the antagonists. Well, at least that’s how Warhammer Community video explained it.
The ‘Warhammer Quest’ is another umbrella of products that allows GW to reach out to new players with a much lower cost of entry. Kudos!
This looks like an absolute blast! Loved the original Warhammer Quest back in the day!
Well done lads! Not a Warren in site, no chaos but plenty of content.
The weekender gets me trouble every week. I know I’m supposed to be getting the kids dressed and making them breakfast but it’s much easier watching this.
The only think that could get me in more trouble with the wife would be if I won a copy of Blackstone Fortress ?
What a great box that blackstone fortress. Sure would love to paint that… Wink wink
at our gaming club we are excited for blackstone fortres. characters are already spoken for by players, we are ready to get playing
Good show guys.
Cheers!
I saw Blackstone Fortress up close at Warhammer World this week – the painted models look fantastic. The Becca Scott video shows that the game is decent too. Definitely on the shopping list!
oak and iron looks cool
Well up for Blackstone, could almost use the hex boards for a weird game of shadespire ha ha. Also, there is a guy doing 6mm mdf space hulk terrain for the travel gamers out there, well cool.
Very nice show as always. Some of those Space Hulk projects are amazing! Really digging them.
Black Fortress is a nice box, I really like the chaos guardsmen and the imperial characters, very colorfull and varied.
Very intrigued by Blackstone Fortress
My first ever miniature I painted was an orc from the advanced heroquest paint set… i didn’t shake the paints first and his skin ended up being a glossy watery pale green
Another great Weekender great work thank you.
Interested in both Rangers of Shadow Deep and Blackstone Fortress mostly for the decent looking solo/co-op play. Would like to see more games with that option.
The Blackestone Fortress box looks great. I’m very interested in the Iron Man and the potential with the Warhammer 40 rpg. I know of one occasion that a certain commissar found a factory for the Iron Man. What would happen if one of those entities operates within the Mechanicus and the Inquisition discovers this. Will the unique position of Mars save them from judgement or is the threat greater than any arrangement with the Imperium.
Blackstone Fortress looks fantastic !!
I’m a late joiner (BOW) but enjoying it very much. Gone from considering retiring Space Hulk to – New ideas, new space hulkers – New life!!!
Blackstone Fortress looks awesome, the models GW are producing are just amazing I really look forward to new chaos models. The tables you guys build look awesome I wish i could visit, keep up the great work!
Nice show guys.
I don’t agree, Justin – Zombies do not make a game better regardless. In fact I find the trope overdone, especially in regard Weird War settings as they always seem to be there for no apparent reason (did like the idea from the original Weird Wars RPG supplement of the walking anti-tank mine in north Africa – strap a teller mine (or two) to a zombie, bury it and wait for a vehicle to come along. An occult ‘skitter’ mine), as if often the case – just because ‘zombies are cool’. And it’s generally always the Axis forces – I could see Russia using them – a reusable human wave, Ho Ho. You can have too much of a good thing, I suppose.
Rangers sounds interesting, might have a looksee.
First off, Blackstone Fortress looks great… not to mention all the options for crossover with stuff like Rogue Trader for those Heretics, or some great character models… plus of course those models could fit into 40K or Combat Patrol versions of 40K.. and that’s all assuming Blackstone Warhammer Quest in Space isn’t just great by itself!!!
As for first models painted, I still have my first cleric from my first D&D game from about 1992… enamel paint.. orange cloak, green snakestaff, flesh face.. green flocked base… pretty sure it has to be an old Ral Partha cleric… lol
I have to wonder about GW’s thoughts on who is buying Necromunda vs. Kill Team. And if they will have rules to mix both together.
Great work everyone on the Beasts of War team.
Some really awesome and inspiring work in the Space Hulk projects. Loved the game ever since me and my mate Chris played the first edition as teenagers.
Love the multi level affair incorporating tiles from advanced space crusade unless my eyes deceive me. I’m gonna try and get and get something going at the club using the expanded rules for other races eldar, imperial guard etc.
P.S. Warhammer quest meets 40K Omg! Sign me up.
Some very cool work from the community in there. And I’m going to have to think about this Axis and Allies and Zombies thing.
Seeing my Terminator Sergeant on the title screen was a bit of a shock to be honest.
Do check out what I did with those biscuits that were the projects title picture when the weekender got filmed. I would love to read and hear what people think of my idea and the following experiment.
Actually the entire project is one big experiment that will hopefully yield a squad of Terminators I can use. In the beginning I really wasn’t sure if this would work out.
@dignity I am aware the current novels paint the Primaris to be taller than regular marines. I read the novels and quite like them. However I choose to disregard that bit of lore on account of the Terminator models really having strangely short Torsos and the regular marine models suffering from the same problem coupled with too tiny legs. All while the previous lore and lots of the official artwork depicted the Marines as far taller that regular humans. Which the models just never were, because they were just proportioned in a very weird way.
I am actually really happy, that Games Workshop have finally addressed this problem with the Primaris models. And they had to fit them into the lore somehow when actually Space Marine should have always been that size.
And I have an in universe explanation too:
The Howling Griffons are a very old chapter that has been founded by Bobby G. himself entirely from Ultramarine gene seed sometime after the third founding, never mind the details. And don’t let the color scheme distract you either, he just decided that he liked red and a yellow, that is not at all a bit beige, better than blue that day.
The chapters home world of Mancora is a world inhabited by a hardy warrior people that are being generously shielded from the softening touch of civilization, the better to serve the Emperor once they are enlightened and uplifted. It works for the Space Wolves, gotta be a good idea right? Anyway, those warrior types are pretty tough and healthy, and grow into really tall Astartes. Guilliman, the Howling Griffons founding father, is a pretty tall guy himself as far as I recall. I never heard of anyone who was taller than him.
And don’t believe those rumors about the above average birth rate of psychers on Mancora. Rest assured that the Howling Griffons well staffed librarius has the matter in hand and is directly overseeing their processing, making any involvement of the Black Ships entirely superfluous.
It has been said, that the Howling Griffons had a very high turnover of recruits, so high in fact that at times they need to recruit from several worlds other than Mancora, but that is just because they are campaigning so very rigorously. Any health issues in the chapter are being taken care of by the apothecarium which is also extremely vigilant about the recovery of Lord Guilliman’s gene seed, in order to make sure any eventual defects would be discoverd as eary as possible. And to keep it from falling into enemy hands of course.
Really like the low budget Space Hulk map sections. Really cool idea. be interesting to see how many sections they end up with.
Killer content. The relic. Blade stuff looks awesome. Might put me over the edge on buying a set.
lol; once upon a time, back in the year of our Lord 1975. i painted my first figures. Coming out of the world of, move; shoot; flick dead. To wargaming. Airfix ACW, a group of us got together in school with some teachers and made a club.
which went like,
Teacher: you take a box of infantry and paint them blue. You take a box of infantry and paint them grey. you take a box of cavalry to paint them blue and you.
well, you can see the way it went, and by the time and a few weeks later we all had 3×24 infantry units, 1×12 cavalry units and a canon with a crew and a canon being pulled behind a team of horses.
the paint was none of this easy stuff you get from games workshop. no lol and our or should I say at least my figures although just plastic ended up with paint heavier than a metal figure the same size.
By gum lads, they were the days, my friend.
I keep wanting to do something for the Space Hulk challenge, but I haven’t the foggiest idea of what to do.
Please cover Rangers of Shadow Deep more as it comes out! And those new Relicblade miniatures may suit Shadow Deep quite well!
Sorry, no pictures of my early miniatures: That Hero Quest set has been lost to the mists of time, and I stripped my early Dark Angels week’s ago.
To me, the biggest appeal of Blackstone Fortress is it delving into more obscure aspects of the 40K lore. For example, UR-025 being one of the AI robots which turned on humanity during the Dark Ages long before the Emperor has amazing possible implications on the 40K universe. Even just a Blackstone Fortress being found after so many of the known ones were destroyed is very cool. The drones alone being based on an ancient and unknown form of technology. All of these things present so many great possibilities for 40K’s evolution.
@m3kman do i see some floor tiles from another GW game called tyranid attack mixed into the space hulk tiles? great work
i have just picked up silver tower to paint about 2 weeks ago. im now wanting blackstone fortress just to convert and paint the chaos marine lord into a space wolf lord! but its too close to christmas. (i have an agreement with my wife not to buy anything else so she has choices for gifts for me)
Good show today guys, I really enjoyed all of the amazing work that everyone is doing for the hobby challenge. Regarding Blackstone Fortress, I’d love GW to invest more thought into the game board, the last few games have all had very detailed boards but the colour pallet used obscured most of it. I’d also like them to think about how they can raise the terrain off the 2D and give it some justice for the amazing models they always produce.
Thanks for promoting the project guys.
Watched a playthrough of Blackstone on GMG and looks good.
Those space hulk projects are insanely awesome, makes me want to dust off my box and play… then build my own 3D hulk!
Blackstone Fortress looks amazing; and it’s the perfect compliment to Kill Team: Rogue Trader. Games Workshop is firing on all cylinders at the moment!
My first miniature was a scaven “painted” in enamel, unfortunately it has gone to the same place as the other socks.
Blackstone Fortress seems interesting because it comes with a few minis that sort of depart from the typical GW aesthetic. It’s cool to see them branch out.
Really interested to hear about WW1 wargaming. Blackstone Fortress looks cool.
Pretty sure I’m gonna make that 3d Space Hulk board…
I am always amazed by all these folks who put such awesome imagination into making these custom pieces. The 4-tier set is just bonkers and the 3D set with the boarding tube is awesome ((BTW, anyone notice the little head poking out of the top?)) Always love seeing the look into kickstarters even though my wallet howls with emptiness.
Kroot!!! Love the kroot. Also loving the Space Hulk projects.
I got my start w/ heroquest, and I’m a huge 40k fan. They basically spied on me and found yet another way to empty my wallet. One of these days, I’ll find the hidden camera…
Uhhh, I want that prize soooo badly!
Oh, and thanks for yet another great weekender.
I’m such an old git that I remember collecting white dwarf articles for rules on other races in the space crusade boardgame. Blackstone Fortress seems to scratch that itch too!
I really like the chaos minis in Blackstone Fortress. Hopefully the rumours are true and we’re getting some new chaos space marine sculpts
Although I no longer have the minis and never bothered to take photos, the first minis I painted were GW’s Catachan Jungle Fighters. They had black boots, hair, and guns, and wore blue jeans and white t-shirts. With the exception of GW’s Pallid Flesh, I used generic hobby craft paints, and all colors were painted on in one thick layer. Also, I never even bothered priming them.
Some beautiful Space Hulk projects as well as fantastic community spotlights.
Happy tuesday (again, sigh)!
I don’t have any of my first painted minis, they were done like 35 years ago! They were the smaller scale D&D by RAFM or Ral Partha… My first one was a bear and not knowing about primers at the time well… it took a lot of coats! It almost became a “blob bear” lol
Next weekend, i’ll be on saturday for sure, i’m not working!
See you there guys and thanks for the TUESDAY-ER!!
i am very intrigued by gw new take on warhammer quest. i had the 96 edition which was great fun because of the bestiary and the rpg lite aspects… i hear that gw annonced a continuous support on this which is great if that gets us more campaigning stuff
I backed Claustrophobia it looks amazing! And Blackstone uuuuuuu
Really great to see all the hard work from the community Space Hulk hobby challenge. Thanks for showcasing these on the vid. Takes me back as some of the first minis I ever painted were those original Space Hulk terminators in their cramped monopose 🙂
Great show again guys! Oak and Iron looks interesting. Will have to watch the Lets Play. I’ve not gotten into Blood and Plunder yet but my buddy is tempting me with his awesomely painted minis. Maybe after I move back to the U.S. in December.
Late seeing the show this week. Glad that I went back to watch it!
Last night i saw Darkstone Fortress in the flesh. Holy crap!! Awesome
Thank you again for another great weekender. Love getting the news from you guys.
Blackstone fortress yes please…
BlackStone Fortress looks amazing! And the rules are pretty neat too.
The Rangers brought my attention too. Frostgrave is great, so Ill keep an eye on this one.
Great Weekender guys!
The space hulk projects look amazing.
Love the episode and the Relicblade love!
With Blackstone Fortress it looks like GW is further expanding the storytelling aspect of their universes. It makes the world come alive so much more than mindlrss war.
Interesting that other systems are being developed for solo play – I like the board games that are two player specific rather than a tweak to rules to accommodate player numbers.
Blackstone fortress i’ve not really read up on – but i’ll sure like to win it and record a play through.
Man, the minis in Blackstone are freakin’ gorgeous!
Happy very belated weekend! Had a busy few weeks and finally catching up on these…
