It’s the XLBS Show………Happy SUNDAY fellow CoGs!
@warzan you have the makings for an AWESOME personal gaming space! Great start and lots of potential for more doings. I look forward to any future looks at your digs if you decide to continue sharing them!
Ohhh, and a Coffee machine as well! You have me wanting to visit OTT even more now. Very very NICE!
I have to ask…..did the ‘Shed Studio’ get moved to your new location Warren? (I still remember when you guys built that thing….I can’t seem to find the videos of it anymore though)
.
.
Love the Banners…….I need to do some of those for my PathofConquest armies…..
@avernos You always inspire me to continue working on my Victorian British troops. Well done!
@jelosloth7 Your Marvel Crisis Protocol miniatures are excellent. I wish mine were all painted! I seem to have bogged myself down with buying two of each and modding one with a costume not featured buy Atomic Mass Games. (the curse of a life long Comicbook fan I guess)
Love the ship @osbad really nice. MY D&D players back in the early ’90s hired a crew, convinced them to retire at sea, and took over the ship, and based their adventures from that point on in the ship as a mobile home and wreaked havoc on that region.
.
.
.
It’s good to have you boys back on my TV!
.
..
…
….
…..(side note….I bought your book suggestion @avernos. I even ordered a used copy so maybe it’s one you’ve loaned out and it’s made it all the way to the USA….it could happen!) π
if you look at the Project now there is a photo gallery of all 12 turns that seem to be more or less in order.
Let me know what you think of the book once you’ve read it.
Fantastic, my wife is off to work so I’m off to Zululand with your troops.
(my wife is threating to steal the book from the mailbox before I get it. Maybe it’s time to change the lock code to the box) π€
So @brennon, you are looking for a new Supermarionation show?
There is a group called Century 21 Films that made 3 new Thunderbirds episodes using voice recordings made around the time the show was produced that ended up as vinyl records. The production was funded via Kickstarter.
During lockdown in 2020 they made a new series called Nebula-75.
Here is the first episode – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqivVh5KvTw
Thanks for sharing that link @hobbyhub
That type of show brings back lots of memories. (I watched the episode and smiled the whole time. I really enjoyed seeing the behind the scenes coverage) If one was ambitious, one might try to do a version of OTT in
Supermarionation style! Oh sh*t, now in the back of my imagination I already see an episode forming!!! π
There is also Firestorm I think its called by Gerry Anderson’s (not the radio host) son
@torros Are you thinking of Fireball XL5?
That predates Thunderbirds. I was thinking that Ben was after something new, hence the suggestion. That and it is probably not that well know, since it is hiding in the needle in a haystack that is YouTube.
If you didn’t see the Aquaman movie, that had the opening of an episode of Stingray right at the start of the movie. Must have been very strange for those Americans, and others, that had never seen the show before.
@hobbyhub No this
https://youtu.be/P-yhwYMoRfk
I will certainly check that out π
“through Warren’s key Hole”???????? Do I need to book a course of psychological counselling before I watch this eppisode?? ….. Feeling genuine trepidation
MY GOD !!!!! I stand corrected … looking through Warren’s keyhole was well worth it. That is inspirational Sir and has me thinking about what I can do. Thank you so much for sharing
Heya all happy Sunday
Unfortunately Wofun donβt yet do a Zulu war range, like Gerry Iβve been keeping out a keen eye so I could play a islandwana or khambula game, but like Ben mentioned yesterday Mr Dennis has created so many illustrations itβs very likely new ranges will follow Iβd expect after the full napoleonic range is released. Itβs a popular period which will look so well and Iβd expect sell well. Iβd love to see a Zulu war and a War of 1812 range but I do have the Texan war collection which allowed for a game recreating the Alamo along with the prop set Wofun supply, was a great game. The Mexican horse are just lovely. Iβm not too keen on the side on look within the historical fantasy range either but fair play to them for trying something different.
I remember that Dystopian wars video Ben and Warren did back in the day I think itβs still on YouTube I think, you guys look so young. My preorder for Dystopian wars is in and have some Spartan Chinese ships to paint up so happy admiral. I really like the new models but I appreciate how Warcradel have grandfathered the older ships into the game so players can still use those old Spartan collections. Very much looking forward to Lost World Exodus, grew up on Edgar Rice Burrows and Arthur Conan Doyle and judging from the recent Teddy Roosevelt mini itβs going to tick a lot of boxes for me.
I saw this on the news earlier, quirky but impressive bit of hobby hitting the streets around the EU https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/entertainment-arts-55575666
Book club is a great idea, look forward to taking part, for now my book selection: Empire of the Summer Moon by S J Gwynne – the rise and fall of the Comanche Tribe
it’s only a matter of time
I will raise a mug of tea to that π
Battle of Acre
Day one
7.00am Dysentery
8.00am Mad religious type has a vision,Dysentery outbreak still ongoing
9.00am Leaders of the Crusades still squabbling, Head religious type says Dysentery is a sign from God.
10.00am Bit of fighting
11.00am Dysentery again
lol – I need to look at writing some diarrhea rules by the looks of it π
Happy Sunday mate
And a happy Sunday to you @warzan and Gerry and Ben and Karl or is it Vernon?
McCarthy’s bar is a great book
“It’s a big room.”
Big room??
“It’s a fucking barn. We’ll never fill it.” https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/5bb85655-f949-4e70-92b7-f27ea91824fc
Happy Sunday!
I like Lloydβs lightsaber suggestion but rather than have things sticking out of the wall, you could make a floor display. Like the Jedi have arrived for a powwow and as a symbol of the conclave have stabbed their lightsabers into the floor. The colours could be Green = Yoda, Blue = Obi-Wan, Purple = Mace. The yellow is more tricky from the same era but could be the test piece!
Or a coffee table with the lightsabers under a glass top. Can hide the end under some edging I.e. the intention is not to see the whole thing, just the hilt and part of the beam. Would look very cool illuminating the drinks on the table!
Suggestion for book club, pick something that has an audiobook, for those that prefer to consume books that way.
@warzan If you sink those lights permenantly in to foam or walls please consider the heat and fire risk involved. Would be a shame if all those star wars toys burned.
@warzan The Stand is a new adaption of the book (which is the best Stephen King book). The base story is the fight between Good and Evil and links the main villain Randall Flagg to the Gunslinger from the Dark Tower.
The trailer for the original adaption for the stand is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsMp2pZK-Cw
The 2020 Version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l–4gu4CQBM&t=29s
Book cub suggestion : The Stand π
I would recommend David Weber – On Basilisk Station (Hornblower in space)
Gonna throw this out there as a suggestion for the book club: Legend, by David Gemmell. My definition of “warm blanket” reading, and the book that really set me on the road to loving heroic fantasy (and helped improve my reading speed). Plus the Siege of Dros Delnoch is great.
Failing that, might I suggest what is regarded by many as his best book? Ravenheart. Ignore that it’s billed as “Book 3 of The Rigante”, Ravenheart stands on it’s own right and mashes his usual fare of heroic fantasy to a more swashbuckling Jaccobite setting.
(if I was a sadist I’d have plumped for something by Brandon Sanderson, say The Final Empire, or if i never wanted the book club to end the brick that is The Way of Kings…)
Ravenheart is good but I think Hero in the Shadows is his best, but as I’ve often said to people the nice thing is if you like one of his books you’ll like them all
Oh indeed. Gemmell was an incredibly accessible writer to get into (and handily a good chunk of his works are on Kindle for 99p up)
You get water out of a boar’s hole…… Right….. π
Weren’t we supposed to learn this Sunday what that Slaaneshi mace looks like? Did you lose it in the boar’s hole? πΉ
On the subject of books, I am terrible at paying attention to books and really struggle reading unless it is history or factual stuff, kind of like Lloyd. But I have found that through Audible I can get through some. So these are my recommendations:
The Poetic Edda: Stories of the Norse Gods and Heroes by Jackson Crawford
– The title says all.
The Red Flag by Julia Maiola
– This is an interesting story set near the end of the golden age of piracy and really depicts well how and what pirates really were even though this is a fictional story.
Happy Sunday Cogs.
How wide is your hole?
About this wide *goatse hands*
@warzan did I just see…. a 12-string Tele??? Yeah, yeah, nice room, nice toys, Star Wars, yada yada.
But a 12-string Tele?! Surely not?
π
lol yeah it’s a 12 string ‘telecopy’
Music (Rock and Metal) has been a big part of my life since I was a boy, but it’s been 10 years (Pretty much from the start of the BoW project) since I got to play. Just didn’t have space and time. I really enjoy recording music and years ago I and Lloyd had a mini recording studio as part of our work.
So Andrea has given me a small part of the basement elsewhere to create a small home studio, on the condition I relearn how to play alongside the kids.
So I have gathered up some used basic home kit (Mixer, Control Desk, headphone amp, a couple of amp modelers, a keyboard etc) and have it all in the space to fit out a small ‘silent studio’ (so everything is done via amp modeling and headphones to keep the noise manageable)
So i managed to grab a couple of instruments I always wanted to try on the cheap, an electric violin, a basic bass guitar, and yes the 12 string tele – I have always loved the full sound of a 12 string and always wanted one, so when I saw this I thought let’s do it lol
Now I have to save up again to get each of my guitars to a ‘setup guy’ to get them all back up to scratch and little electronic issues (noise and interference and the odd damaged pot etc) fixed.
Then I’ll get the kids into the routine of Friday night rock sessions lol
That is so cool! I’m determined to learn to play guitar “properly” this lockdown-around. I had one of those double-neck guitars a while back – twelve strings on the bottom neck, regular six- on the top. I sounded lovely. But, man, it was sooooo heavy! I think I gave it away in the end (all I know is I don’t have it any more!). So when we’re all finally allowed to move around again, I’m not only bringing my electronic board game for you guys to check out, I’m bringing my electric guitar too π Jam-tastic!
That would be fab!
Italeri also did make a 1/72 Rorke’s Drift battle set(nr. 6114) in 2015 in which you get 96 zulu’s and 40 british soldiers. The set comes with MDF(Sarissa) hospital and supply depot and stone walls, brick walls and sand bags. All you need to fight the battle like Gerry said. They have other 1/72 battle sets from Roman era, Napoleonic, 100 years war, French and Indian war, French Foreign Legion, American Civil War, WWII and Vietnam War. All come with buildings and soldiers so you can play a small battle on a kitchen table.
Dang, that sounds like a great box set!
….but I’m already invested deeply in 28mm figures. Still, there is always room for more troops! π€
@WARZAN Nice basement, its big enough to use as a temporary studio whilst stuck at home to film some vlogs and other items. I was pretty chuffed when I converted my garage at Christmas last year but that basement is on another level.
00:00 THUNDERBIRDS ARE GOOOO!
04:12 What the hell did I just watch? XD
04:13 Happy Sunday!

32:20 For @avernos RD you need high tables… you don’t want to give Gerry a bad back now do you?
34:00 “Lightsaber?” “Yes, PLEASE” Always say please.
45:00 Speaking of… where is the DIY book? Which table is getting supported by it? π

Martin McGuinness? Martin McGuinness!
For Christβs sake @warzan give us a warning, Iβd just supped me brew and had a scalpel in my hands, spat tea everywhere and nearly cut my bloody finger off!! πππππ
Can I recommend the Silmarillion please for book club, tried so many times to read that book, would be good if I could listen to somebody else struggling through it ππ³ππ
Awesome basement @warzan! And thanks for the show and the golden Button. I really wasnβt expecting that one! Cheers and have a great year.
There are no Russian models on my dystopian wars stuff though – the group shot had Covenant of Antarctica, Prussians and Britannians π
I do remember that first video with @Brennon about dystopian wars. I think thatβs what got me into it in the first place!
Iβm slowly building up the project for my Epic Steel Legion Army, @avernos! There are 3 posts now π
I wonder if @lloyd can do something terrain wise with the perfume π
Anyway, happy sunday!
Thanks for the Golden Button guys! A nice surprise.
Oh I certainly have enough redcoat and zulus to give it a go #avernos maybe I can talk the wife into playing it during lockdown. Or not
Northern Ireland: ‘Basement’.
