Happy Sunday Backstagers, CoGs and OTTers!
Hold fast @brennon, on the hole, your edging might well be worth the wait. Blow you load of cash after Mo’ Money March which is better than November and Gerry’s squirrel girl situation.
@avernos you have given a face to this nearly mythical opponent of yours. Truly pics exist so it did happen. (By the way look out for that Baditz Maru in the background. He’s an ornery penguin)
@johnlyons So much hobby so much to speak of. Good luck on the new collection. Ben can guide you on your way to furniture for the space it will occupy.
The struggle is real. I have more stuff waiting for me to come back around to it than I can ever have the time to come back around to. There comes a point where that strategy becomes a storage issue!!
Northumbrian Tin Soldier does a few crows as well as cats, although a couple them have those arms that give Ben the ick.
The only kickstarter i waited almost a year for, i played once and thought it was extremely average, so sold it as soon as I got it. Luckily the hype was still good enough to recoup my money. Most of the kickstarter games are under playtested and rarely as good as they look. One of my gaming group buys almost every board game kickstarters. so I see alot of games that are under developed.
The first version of anything on the market is rarely as good as it could be at release.
Some get lucky and simply need a few tweaks whereas others need a healthy dose of reality.
No amount of testing can prepare a game for actual players, because the in-house game testers inevitably become far too familliar with the game to give good critique from the perspective of a customer.
Kickstarters tend to emphasize this because they generally are done by small teams with zero experience in creating and publishing games.
Problem … if no one risks buying into that first iteration then there won’t be a second more refined version for you to play either.
lol … these video thumbnails crack me up 😀
Some crackingly good stuff there this week.
they’ve done Wingspan for fish
they’ve done it for Dragons …
so what about Wingspan for … planes and tanks ?
It’s all GW’s fault.
At least that’s what I tell myself. Back in day GW’s lessons to me were that their product is at it’s cheapest point at release and that after a year or 2 it may be gone forever, thus triggering FOMO. Of course at the time I couldn’t afford to get certain products which then strengthened future FOMO when I could afford a bit more.
Now I don’t buy GW modern products anymore, but that fear of missing out has moved to different companies. Some games from these companies may have a limited shelf life, especially if they’re licenced products or a product that does not gain the traction it deserves. A crowd funding project may offer a reduced price (well I’m saving money really?). 3rd party retailers have sales were I might as well buy that because it’s a bargain. A company’s newer army box might have less in it than the old one, so I better get the old one before it’s gone (Compare the price and contents of some of Mantic’s more modern Mega Army boxes to the replacement Battalion sets). There is also a company that has ebay auctions where I grabbed some ‘bargains’.
All of this comes down to FOMO and perceived value, but the problem is exasperated by being a slow hobbiest and having limited time. Currently I’ve not bought any miniatures this year, but the fulfilment of the Damned crowd funder is floating up ahead like a giant iceberg. So as I said it’s all GW’s fault and I take no responsibility for my actions.
PS. Jamis Cutts buy those bargain miniatures from Northstar if you’ve not already.
Sunday isn’t it?
00:00 Maintain hype? No! Bad boy! Down! Hype is bad! Maintain love, excitement and passion! Not hype!
01:00 Buying board games on purpose. How else do you buy them John? Throw a dice?
12:45 TV shopping?
18:30 Imagine *grave style plastic minis for B&B
45:00 psssssss!
52:00 I’ll just look at my wallet any time the urge rises to go for the shiny. Usually helps XD
1:05:00 Tank goes booom
Already over? aaww 🙁
Hurrah Happy Sunday Gang o7
Happy Sunday! Thanks for the but-but-ding!
The thing with ‘Sharp’ and anything historical is that there already are rules out there.
it’s not like a fantasy game where you have nothing to work with until the actual rules are released.
I think there even is a game about Sharpe’s rifles themselves from the random movement guys.
There’s Blood&Bayonets that has stats for the unit the series is based on. There’s Blackpowder from Warlord that could be useful too.
In some ways historicals make life easy, because your unit is going to work for almost every set of rules already out there. At best you’re going to have to add a few extra bits and bobs.
The better question is: what exactly are you waiting for?
Have you looked at what is available and found it wanting?
Or did you simply not know these alternatives existed?
If you are a hobby butterfly then waiting for a specific release is pointless, because chances are something else will come along and make you go *squirrel*. As such it is better to cease the moment of inspiration that boosts your hobby mojo.
And if you aren’t a hobby butterfly … what’s the worst that could happen after all that pre-game excitement?
A painted army without an opponent to play against ?
Did you not have fun while preparing for the release ?
Happy Sunday Backstagers, Cogs and Otters.
