Pre-Orders Now Live For Mantic’s Kings Of War 4th Edition!
October 10, 2025 by brennon
Mantic Games has kicked off pre-orders for the new 4th Edition of their 28mm Fantasy wargame, Kings of War. You can now snap up the new Rulebook, a new Starter Set, supplements and an entirely new army, the mighty Xirkaali.
Claws in the Sand 2-Player Starter Set // Kings of War
Claws in the Sand, the brand new Two-Player Starter Set, contains everything that you need for commanding your armies in your games of Kings of War and the new edition. You get two full plastic miniatures for both the forces of the Xirkaali, the newest faction to join the armies of Pannithor, as well as the Trident Realms who have assembled on the shore to repel these invaders.
Xirkaali Warrior Pack // Kings of War
This set comes with loads of awesome new miniatures for you to use in your games. On the one hand, you have the hard plastic Xirkalli Warriors/Spearwardens who will act as the core of this force alongside the Yan Infantry. A mixture of feral warriors and their human companions who fight as one on the battlefield.
Yan Infantry // Kings of War
These warriors are led by a MasterCraft resin Xirkaali Matriarch miniature who will command your initial foray onto the battlefields of Pannithor. On the other side of things, you have the forces of the Trident Realms led by a Depth Horror Eternal (PVC) who brings alongside some more of his kin.
Depth Horrors // Kings of War
As well as the Depth Horrors, the Trident Realms forces are also made up of a much-anticipated set of miniatures in the form of hard plastic Placoderms. They bring their sharp spears to the fighting, holding them at the ready as the forces of the Xirkaali surge up from the beaches.
Placoderms with Spears // Kings of War
This set also comes with a set of the hard plastic Riverguard miniatures as well, which completes the complement of figures for the new Starter Set. You will also get yourself a slim Rulebook for Kings of War and a Getting Started Sheet, plus two Army Profiles, which also include your assembly guides for both forces. A solid set of new figures to get you excited for wargaming in Kings of War and Pannithor.
Expand Your Xirkaali Force
If you're looking to expand your Xirkaali force or perhaps start without the Starter Set, you can also get your hands on a great number of different sets for the army. We can't show all of them here but you'll get an idea of what's on offer.
Xirkaali Battallion // Kings of War
The Xirkaali Battalion, in particular, is a good starting point for someone who doesn't want to go with the Starter Set. It comes with a couple of new hero choices plus regular and elite infantry that can be used to bolster the Xirkaali.
Xirkaali Witch Hunter // Kings of War
Witch Cage // Kings of War
This set includes the Witch Hunter and the Witch Cage, both of which focus on the magic-hunting element of the Xirkaali on the tabletop and within the lore. As well as that, you also get the Xirkaali Warriors, Yan Infantry, Wildfang Miniatures and some of the ace Plainstalkers that cap off this set. It certainly gives you a better idea of the different, wild units that you can use as part of the Xirkaali.
Sticking with the hero theme, you also have some great options for just getting your hands on more of them! You have the Hero Pack...

...which includes the aforementioned Matriarch, a Siegemaster, a Yan Lieutenant and the Yan Beastmaster. All of these are resin figures, which complement what you've already got in the range via the plastic releases.
This is by no means all of the miniatures available, as there are some fascinating miniatures in this collection.
Xirkaali Shaoquan // Kings of War
Xirkaali Witch Hunter Shuugch // Kings of War
Xirkaali Lionsnarl Cavalry // Kings of War
If you want to go BIG, there is also the towering form of the Xirkaali Gokluu Dragon!
Xirkaali Gokluu Dragon // Kings of War
This impressive miniature represents the wingless, snake-like dragons that live within the realm of the Xirkaali. They are not only battering rams on the battlefield but also inspire courage within the warriors of the Xirkaali Empire who march beside them.
You can head over and check out more of the pre-orders for the Xirkaali over on the Mantic Games Website. There is a LOT for you to dive into.
New 4th Edition Books
Capping things off, we have the new books!
Kings of War 4th Edition Rulebook // Mantic Games
The new Kings of War Rulebook comes with all of the rules you need to learn the game plus options for building lists for sixteen unique factions. Alessio Cavatore has had his hand in the rules once again, reshaping and updating the core Kings of War mechanics so they are approachable for newcomers. The book is now broken down into core rules, advanced mechanics and army lists but also lots of artwork and lore for the growing world of Pannithor.
You can also check out the Invasion supplement for Kings of War.
Kings of War - Invasion // Mantic Games
This expansion book for 4th Edition Kings of War comes crammed with lore, stories, art and full army lists for the Xirkaali Empire, Trident Realm, Halflings, and Salamanders.
"As their forces surge across land and sea, the western powers face an enemy unlike any before. But in the chaos, old powers stir… and new opportunities rise. Introducing the ancient Xirkaali Empire, this exciting new book includes full army lists for the Xirkaali Empire, Trident Realm, Halflings, and Salamanders and is crammed with riveting lore, background and artwork from Pannithor. The Xirkaali Empire has turned its attentions westward. They are coming."
This will be initially available as a hardback book but after its first run, it will then be available in a softback format. A great way for you to enhance your adventures in Pannithor and Kings of War. All of this is just the start when it comes to the new edition of Mantic Games' Kings of War.

Fantastic! IMHO the Xirkalai rival GW’s Cathay. It seems the dogmen mentioned in Marco Polo’s travels were the inspiration for this army – maybe. I will be getting the books for now.
I see a really good christmas present in my future 😀
Big beasties that look like werewolves ? I wants.
Let loose the dogs of war.
These look amazing although I do find the Shaolin Monks to be a bit disappointing. I wonder what the rationale behind making them human was. It just seems a strange inclusion on an army of dog men, to have a unit of humans.
Someone has to through the balls and rub the bellies.
Agree; happily pick up the rest of the models but the yan are bad.
I don’t think they’re bad, just out of place. I would much rather have seen the same style of unit but done as dogmen.
Yarp, the search for alternative models will be fun 🙂
Cathay vs. Lizardmen.
I’m all over this like poo in a baby’s nappy. Love the new range love the two new plastic kits for trident realms ( who have quite a lot of plastic kits now with the frogs and frog riders last year) love the way they are pushing the narrative . Love the fact they brought back Alessio Calvatori to polish the new rules. Got my orders in ….. * sighs contententedly*
Oh and you didn’t include the Orangutan mon in the preview ….,. HOW CAN YOU NOT INCLUDE AN ORANGUTAN MONK!
Mantic are really improving the quality and look of their minis, bravo! Both forces look fantastic! I especially like two minis not shown here: the the Xorxoi hunter and the ape kung fu master.
Least favourite are the kung fu monks, but that may also be due to the paint scheme.
The new stuff is looking fantastic (except the human monks, they are a hard pass for me). Really excited for a new addition and getting to add a new army to pile of unpainted Kings armies? Sign me up!
