Warlord Games have got a few options for those who want to go and fight in the island hopping theatre of war that is the Pacific front. It all starts with the new Bolt Action supplement called Campaign: Marianas & Palau Islands.

This book covers a lot of the island hopping action between the US and Imperial Japanese armies as they fought to try and take control of the many islands dotted around the Pacific theatre. You'll be zooming into the year 1944 and following their campaigns through the Mariana and Palau Islands including the battles around Saipan, Guam, Peleliu and Anguar.

When it comes to the bloodiest and deadliest of fighting in World War II, this campaign was right up there. There were hostile conditions to deal with, resilient enemies who had no fear of death and such a weight of weaponry in the mix that it's a miracle that most of these islands still exist. This is a serious "hot zone" for you to play out your battles from the period.

Bolt Action US & Imperial Japanese Starter Armies

To get you started in this endeavour you've also got the chance to pick up two armies. The first of these is the 2nd Marine Division also known as "The Silent Second".

The Silent Second US Marine Starter Army - Bolt Action

Inside this bundle, you're going to get a fair chunk of stuff to get you started with your beleaguered US soldiers who are battling up the beaches and into the jungles of these islands...

  • 1 x Campaign: Marianas & Palau Islands (with Special Edition Miniature)
  • 1 x US Marines plastic box set
  • 1 x Sherman III medium tank
  • 1 x USMC 30 Cal MMG team firing (FREE)
  • 1 x USMC Bazooka, Sniper and Flamethrower teams (FREE)

As well as the US army, you also need a set of Imperial Japanese soldiers for them to go up against. That's where the Saipan Defence Force comes in...

Much like with the US offering, this gives you a headstart on your army and you could probably play out a good deal of scenarios with just a set like this. I love the idea of focusing in on smaller elements of battles rather than the whole thing.

  • 1 x Campaign: Marianas & Palau Islands (with Special Edition Miniature)
  • 1 x Imperial Japanese infantry plastic boxed set
  • 1 x Japanese Type 95 Ha-Go light tank
  • 1 x Imperial Japanese Sniper and Flamethrower teams
  • 1 x Imperial Japanese tank hunters (FREE)
  • 1 x Imperial Japanese MMG team (FREE)

If this is all appealing to you then don't forget that during the pre-order period before the start of September you'll also be able to get that special miniature called Cappy, Devil Dog. Here is a little about the history behind the model...

"Cappy, Devil Dog, is a Doberman that saved hundreds of lives during the Battle of Guam. An unsuspecting camp of sleeping marines would have fallen prey to an enormous advancing Japanese force were it not for Cappy's intervention. He, unfortunately, succumbed to wounds suffered during the subsequent battle and was the first of the Devil Dogs to die in battle on Guam. A statue of Cappy is situated there, overlooking the National War Dog Cemetery and Memorial. Our miniature depicts him with his handler, PFC Allen Jacobson."

Cappy certainly has some serious teeth on him but maybe you'll be able to play out the Battle Of Guam and make sure he survives until the end!

What do you think of these island hopping options?

"...maybe you'll be able to play out the Battle Of Guam and make sure Cappy survives until the end!"
