Antediluvian Miniatures have called in sculptor Paul Hicks to produce a range of new Gallowglass figures for them. So, if you're looking to field some of the fiercest Gaelic fighters around you've now got an option!

Gallowglass - Antediluvian Miniatures

These particular models are based on a piece of artwork by Albrecht Dürer from 1521. It shows a set of Irish Gallowglass with their array of different weapons. Many of them favoured axes in combat but also claymores in later periods. Here is the art piece this is based on...

Gallowglass Artwork - Antediluvian Miniatures

The piece is decidedly stylised and this has led others to believe it was based on written accounts of the Gallowglass rather than seeing them in the flesh. I would imagine many people would have preferred to stay away from the Gallowglass in all walks of life.

Here is a quote I found on Wikipedia concerning them as warriors...

"...pycked and scelected men of great and mightie bodies, crewell without compassion. The greatest force of the battell consisteth in them, chosing rather to dye than to yeelde, so that when yt cometh to handy blowes they are quickly slayne or win the fielde."

Yeah...I'll be letting them hack up the other side of the battlefield thanks.

Will you be snapping up the new Gallowglass when they get released?
