Expensive for what’s in the box. It makes Necromunda Dark Uprising look like a bargain. I’d rather have plastic terrain than gaudy coloured cardboard.
Really? I gotta disagree with you there completely.
Its less than half the price of dark uprising (in Aus at least) and comes with a full rulebook.
You can spend the difference in price to grab some awesome knights of dice buildings and scatter to fully kit out a 3×3 table.
Or you can go ttcombat for even cheaper terrain (but not as detailed).
Its a great two player starter, with full crews including iconic characters so you can play full games out of the box without needing to buy more minis (maybe true with uprising until you wanna equip a model with a weapon not in box…hello forgeworld prices).
Context: dark uprising $490, plus I gotta get the rules $88, and if I wanna play a proper game of necromunda drop (I’d imagine based on GW terrain prices close to $1000 on more plastic terrain).
Batman: $216, slap about $150 for builings and approx $100 for a game mat.
Dark uprising is more a sample box than a starter.
I tend to build based on what is in the box, but I have sprues form other GW stuff that I could always import if I needed it.
Can’t vouch for australian prices, but in the UK I got Dark Uprising for under £150 with two teams of minis and the rules. There’s a good chunk of terrain in Dark Uprising box, but othe purchases in recent years have given me some other usable terrain.
Persoanally I don’t like cardboard terrain. I have some TT Combat stuff for Carnevale and that’s pretty good, but no use for Necromunda obviously.
As for the teams in the batman box… not that impressed… but I’m not that fond of the bat or joker as they’re a bit boring. Had they kept the marvel licence I might have been more interested…
But each to their own… something is good value if you think you’re getting a good deal.
Thats not a bad price, we do get slugged more in Aus because…reasons.
With regards to them being starter boxes though, I can’t say dark uprising is close to value for money. Having other sprues to add is always an advantage but I’m looking at them purely as boxes intended to get people into the game. In which case dark uprising is too limited (not a complete set of rules) and too expensive and requires a massive further investment to play the game properly.
I can get that if you don’t care for batman as an IP so much tjen yeah, its not the game for you to be sure. But thats more down to taste than of its good value or not.
Now underhive was a great value starter. Even in Aus, it was the price of buying two gang boxes (even if you needed to spend more on extra books) and getting some scenery from ttcombat still left a lot of cash in my pocket.
I just can’t say the same for dark uprising, the chaos gang looks meh, enforcers I can get separately.
Terrain looks amazing, but to get enough to fill a proper board I’d be out well over $1000, which is approx £500.
The worst part about Dark Uprising is the paper mat… that’s worthless…
Fortunately I have Underhive so got the got the nine boards from that.
One thing about the Dark Uprising paper mat… it’s 2×2, not 3×3 like Underhive…
I’m presuming (still working on scenery, so only skimmed rules) that Dark Uprising is intended to play on 2×2 due to the 3D element, whereas Underhive was sold as 2D with expansions for 3D, so filling a 2×2 is not that difficult.
Selling the gang books 1 by 1 then doing a hardback for all previous left a bad taste…
The terrain is versatile. Designed to be stacked with bits to make sure it doesn’t topple.
The fun fair looks great.
