Fantasy Flight Games has now revealed more details about their upcoming Star Wars card game, Star Wars: The Deckbuilding Game. Dive into a head-to-head clash between the Rebels and the Empire with a new two-player game coming soon.

Touted as an easy-to-learn game, each player will start out with a core deck and work to destroy their opponent's bases whilst also enhancing their deck through upgrades. The first player to destroy three bases will win the game and shift the balance of power in the galaxy.

During gameplay, you'll be fighting over different bases but you'll need to boost the power of your deck in order to do so. You'll use resources generated to buy cards from the Galaxy Row, all of which will go into your deck and provide you with additional support in future turns. Deckbuilding basics!

What's neat about the game is that the cards that your purchase can be used to damage your opponent's bases but also take out cards in the Galaxy Row. When a card is sent to Sabotage (Rebels) or Bounty Hunt (Empire) a card in the Galaxy Row, you can take them out of action (so they can't be purchased by your opponent) and you gain a reward for doing so (more credits for example).

Additionally, the game makes use of The Force in a fun way. You can generate Force by using certain cards or taking out your opponent's cards in the Galaxy Row. This then shifts a Force Track (see below) which gives you benefits and can trigger additional mechanics on cards if "The Force is with you...".

I like that Star Wars: The Deckbuilding game is a self-contained affair rather than it turning into another big collectable game from Fantasy Flight Games. The two-player format seems like a neat idea and I like the tug-of-war you seem to have in effect during play.

I will certainly be giving this a go. I am a big fan of deckbuilding games and I like that there are ways that you can affect your opponent's options. It will build an interesting back-and-forth to gameplay and also force (hah) you to make some tough decisions.

Are you tempted by this new card game?
