Fireforge Games has been showing off even more Byzantine teasers for their upcoming Kickstarter campaign. We lead the way with another character, the deadly looking Harald Hardrada!

Harald Hardrada New - Fireforge Games

So, this rather fancy fellow is looking like he would be a brilliant leader for your foot troops in battle. You can see plenty of that Viking aesthetic in his design and of course, you'll have to find a way for him to fight alongside his legendary Varangian Guard. I like that the design of him is also reasonable enough that you could move him back to Northern Europe if you wanted to and have him be a Viking warrior before his trip to Byzantium.

As well as the mighty Harald, you can also pick up some cavalry options as part of their campaign as they showed off the Koursores who will be thundering into the mix atop their rather sturdy looking mounts. I like their grim looks of determination on their faces, ready to build up for a charge.

The focus of this particular cavalry unit was to engage enemy cavalry and protect the flanks of your force as they engaged the enemy. They were drawn from the kataphraktoi but were less well armoured and therefore could fulfil a role which relied on speed and being able to manoeuvre to deal with different situations.

You will also be able to pick up the Horse Archers who, as anyone who has played Age Of Empires or Total War knows, are a pain in the arse to fight.

As you might imagine, these riders would be good as a skirmishing force that will be an irritant in the side of your enemies army. If you deployed these properly they would be able to fire at their foes before disengaging and racing away, perhaps even drawing troops into terrible positions so that they can be counter charged.

What do you think of their latest Byzantine offerings?
