About the Project

Note on change of the title (09.01.2021): I guess it is quite self-explanatory. Since some people apparently follow this project and may be interested in following it forward, I decided to keep it alive for the time being. Original description: I intend this project to be chronicle of my hobby progress throughout the year. I usually post photos of my painting on the forums, but I’ll probably add more pictures here with occasional recipe and maybe a battle report from time to time.

I usually paint my minis in bright, flashy colours but with the two bellow I wanted to take different route, well it came up more dark and lacking contrast than gritty and dark as I intended, but what can you do. BTW, I didn’t use oils at all with those two – somewhat unusual for my recent style.

Black site Agent – Unit 9

Yesterday I commented on one of the minis painted by @joshtogo in his project and  thus got inspired to have another go on cammo pattern used by Kujo on Youtube, but again, it came out to dark and unreadable for me.

Another one painted with my recently standard mixture of airbrush and oils.

And, as hinted before, the rest of the Hospitalers. Somewhat accidentally I also painted Uma Sorensen (alternative pose) from Defiance set. She was prepped and the colours matched, at the beginning. She was actually source of frustration as she is to small for me, I just can’t see which detail is what, where It begins or ends… anyway, I probably painted her three times and in the end used completely different paints and techniques to the rest of the PanO troops bellow.

Oh, and to avoid upsetting the project system with too many pictures I compiled them into 4+1 (BTW I somehow managed to skip one pose on the HMG guy).

A mini finished last week, but since it was an entry to a contest, it couldn’t be revealed earlier.

The armour is done with oils – deepest shadows are black (tinted with Ultramarine), base colour is cobalt blue and the light is styled on a sunlight on a cool day –which in my eyes looks like white with some chrome yellow (like 5 parts white to 1 yellow). Similarly tabard goes from mixture of cobalt blue through cadmium red to the same cool light (but since it is not so reflective as the armour, light are not so pronounced).

The white cross on his chest is a freehand, while crosses on his pauldrons are self-made decals.

I didn’t expect to win the contest, wince level of some works presented there is usually insane, but this time I was surprised to get a mention (for anyone interested: https://youtu.be/e4tBpNH59BY?t=1923).

There he goes:

His buddies are also ready – waiting for the paint to dry before taking photos.

First hero from Defiance set. It probably doesn’t show in this project blog, but my first and biggest Infinity army is Haqqislam. I started playing the game in 2014 and my first army was Qapu Khalqi. That’s why it felt like no brainer to start Defiance with Rouhani. This is actually alternative pose mini, a bonus starch goal during Kickstarter. I painted him to fit my other Haqq minis.

Backdrop on the photo is my new ‘concrete’ mat.

That’s exactly it! But officially it is called Blue Wolf Mongol Cavalry.

I painted this mini as an entry to Bromad Academy Painting Contest last quarter. It was a crazy run, I received the package on March 25th and sent pictures of finished paintjob on the 31st… and I used some oils in the process.

Anyway, it was mostly painted by airbrush – with my normal mix for the Yu Jing Yellow (orange brown>gold yellow>ice yellow>white and then overall ice yellow glaze), but this time I deepened the shadows with a mixture of yellow ochre and magenta (+some black to desaturate and darken it) and made final light points and edge highlight with some white and chrome yellow mixture.

To add some flare to the model I designed some easy decals.

The it goeas, oh and results of the contest shall be announced next week.
