Victrix Miniatures have now released their newest plastic set for your Historical wargames. You can now get your hands on the 28mm plastic Late Roman Cataphracts that are going to introduce some heavy cavalry into the mix running down your foes.

The set comes with sixteen miniatures clad in their heavy armour alongside their mounts. There are eight different horse head options for the mounts as well as thirteen different head options for the various riders. You will also find loads of bonus bits and pieces for customising your miniatures including axes to hang from the saddles and swords for the scabbards.

You will also get the arm option to give one of your riders the Draco Standard if you prefer. Armour-wise, the set comes with bodies clad in mail, lamellar and scales. The arms and legs are then covered in the traditional flexible, tubular metal rings that you'd expect.

There are also various arm poses with you either being able to hold your kontos upright or level on the charge. The Cataphracts were like wrecking balls, smashing into the enemy line and sending them scattering with very little getting through the armour of mount or rider.

What I didn't know and was highlighted by Victrix was that the Cataphracts wouldn't charge into combat but trot. They would need to keep the line steady and make the most of the impact of their kontos (lances). I could imagine the immense sound of these heavily armoured riders moving forward and steadily crushing through enemy ranks.

Will you be picking up some of these for your Late Romans?
