Massive 40K Apocalypse Gaming Table Build [Part One]

Preparations for the epic 40K Hobby Weekend are well underway as Lloyd and John explain the plan for constructing the MASSIVE 20ft Warhammer Apocalypse gaming table.
We have a ton of sprues to build from Archon Studio's Rampart range which was on kickstarter and taking late pledges now. This modular Gothic terrain set will make up the crumbling city-scape that attendees of the hobby weekend will fight over.

Justin has been busy printing up Space Marine statues from talented Thinigverse creator FractalNoise which will add some dramatic set pieces.
We've added some pre-painted resin terrain pieces from GameMat.Eu which will provide some cover for units out on the streets.
Then, once built, the painting process can begin and for this we've gathered as many Army Painter supplies as John's wee arms can carry.

I have a couple of incomplete and unpainted Shadowswords I could possibly get done in time for the Bootcamp but couldn’t guarantee it… but I could come up for a day to give you a hand with the tables (perhaps in the last week in July or first week in August) if it is any help.
@lloyd On a hunch, was the last plinth you were happy with, the T34 on a plinth for the Team Yankee boot camp? Or possibly the 28mm BA figure on a plinth from the same event?
@johnlyons I am bringing a 3k Tyranid army if you fancy unpacking your Baneblade?

The failed 3D print statues, instead of a dremel, if you have a heat gun with a focused nozzle on it you can melt the edges to look like it’s been hit by a massive energy weapon, and that will also take care of the supports inside. I don’t know if you want to cut holes in your tables, but if you did (or more realistically if the dividers are removable…) and put trays in you could make a few basements or collapsed sewer/underground railways so that the board will effectively be even taller without hitting the roof. You can hide the Justin-model in the Imperial Vegetable Garden. No one will expect him to be there.
If you gave them 6mm stuff you could probably knock it out in half the time and still use the apocalypse rules… ?

You guys Really need to hide the Coffee before you let Lloyd lose on the public, or at least he needs to come with a public health warning. I’m exhausted just sat here watching him go.
That’s a shed load of clipping and glueing to do before you even think about priming. Is 4 weeks enough? That would be a years worth of hobby for me.

Do you plan to fight lengthwise or across the meager 4 foot width? Could it be 6 feet wide? Artillery? Gun emplacements? You have to have a bell/radar/radio tower in the middle for snipers. Destructible walls? After all, the super heavy should be able to plow right through the rubble. Now, over a basement, on the other hand…roll a die. Roll wrong and bye, bye baneblade.
I’ll be interested in seeing the finished product as it’s something I can never do… so much plastic would costa fortune and I don’t space for such a large table.
I have the Kill Team starter terrain and used spray cans to paint that. Doesn’t look bad and that stuff is tedious to paint due to the large areas of blandness.

you could use some buttresses to create bridges in your gaps between gaming surfaces as is, or between buildings even

OK looking forward to this. Not as much as Lloyd obviously. I don’t think anyone could be as enthusiastic as that over this much work! I expect it will look awesome when finished.
