The Weekender, But it’s Frid…*looks at clock* Bugger.
Happy Weekend!
The Weekender is up that mean it is time to go to bed … happy weekend
It’s the Weekend!
I know I shouldn’t be awake yet – or don’t need to be.
Sod it… Roll VR!
Jeremie BT at http://www.figone.fr always has some cool projects on the go – tends to work on larger scale models but stunning. Has an excellent paint technique book like Angel and you can catch him at Salute.
Talking of Angel Giraldez, it’s been fascinating to see him and his studio adapting his techniques to a variety of games and models such as the Hate KS.
3 Irish guys talking about US Football us either the saddest or funniest thing I’ve ever seen… Oilers LoL The Houston Oilers were last in the NFL in 1996. Now there is a team called the Edmonton Oilers… But they’re a ice hockey team 🙂 The Cleveland team Justin was thinking of is called the Browns and they ended the season 0-16 so that is the biggest joke!
Hey come on, man. 0-16 for Cleveland is a “perfect” season! 😀 😀 😀
Of course there the 1972 Miami Dolphins, the first (and still only???) team to have a perfect season in both the regular season and playoffs. Sports is hardly my thing, but it’s history, damn it, so I’m supposed to talk about it! 😀 😀 Besides, people down here in South Florida still talk about it.
The only Gridiron football game I recall being any good was one back in the 70s which I played with some American friends at an army base in Europe (when I was an army brat). It played on a vibrating surface which caused the players to move (shuffle) in a curve you could set… Can’t recall how the passing worked, but it was all about plotting the plays…
Just looked on t’interweb- of course there are videos and websites dedicated to it, it was called Electric Football. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_Football
Not a miniatures game but I always enjoyed playing Paydirt
Oh – you’ve just opened a can of worms referring to the # character as hashtag!
If anything it’s the ‘hash’ symbol (hashtag is something starting with the symbol originally from twitter)although there are many that will insist that it”s the ‘pound’ symbol… That’s a pound in weight rather than a pound in currency, which of course involves the £ character.
Even more controversial are Microsoft developers calling it the ‘sharp’ symbol, as in C#… don’t get me started otherwise I’ll be ending my sentences with an interrobang !?!¿
To be fair, the symbol is used in musical notation to indicate ”sharp”, so Microsoft is not completely off. But it is definitely hash, not pound.
Is there anywhere in the uk that you can get those colour shift paints?
@pagan8th order them direct had several orders with zero issues
Lightseekers for me would be Dread v Storm.
Bring on the thunder
@dignity …. 6mm mate that American Civil War building is the one I gave @lloyd to prove stuff looks good at 6mm… Seems like I am going to have to start your education into 6mm …lol
There is quite a few of us over here in NI doing 6mm in various periods. Mage try and get Arun up to BoW one Sunday when there gaming to show it off…..If my new order ever arrives that is
That Lightseeker game looks actually quite fun. Also good to draw in people not that involved in the hobby overall.
Lightseeker Order:
Order: Infernal
Elements: Corruption – Destruction – Temptation
Hero: Zarkhan
Studio McVey has kind of shut down, Mike joined CMON last year and is currently working on HATE.
I hope it’s not the bits that Justin has chopped off that end up in the 4Ground hopper.
What a great pleasure again to watch a weekender.
I for one preferred a football game with the real football, not the American version. We could see, as managers, epic figures like Justin Mourinho, Sam Wenger and Jürgen Drummond. And all the teams we like from all the leagues of the world. Finally, if every player had a card in the game you could possibly also have a card trading game. However, Panini won´t like this.
Ah, and Star Wars: Legions. The tension has reached boiling point. Need to take my pills forthwith …
My order for Lightseekers would be Psychic.
The elements would be Telepathic, Telekinetic and Pyrokinetic.
My hero would be Occipita.
Lightseekers is a great game! I bought an intro pack recently and would love to expand that with some new starter decks!
If I could add a new order to the game, I’d add “Stealth” which would have elements Subterfuge, Ambush and Assassination.
I’d like this order to introduce a new mechanic to the game where some cards are played face down and trigger when opponents play certain cards so for example when someone attacks, they take unexpected damage in retaliation. This order would also be particularly good at getting around damage reduction cards in play.
My hero’s name is “Garrotte” – short and straight to the neck 🙂
I roughly remember Magic coming out, playing a game or two. Also the GW Mail Order rumour mill telling of (the one, the only) John Stallard in the boardroom tearing up Magic card after Magic card shouting “Blasphemy! Blasphemy!”. (Subtext: a successful fantasy game WE didn’t produce.)
Probably apocraphal, definitely believable.
Also love the look of 4th Quarter. I know at least one other tabletop gamer who’s enough of an American Football nerd to love this.
My only reservation is resin minis in a board game. I’ve winced at the way (some) boardgamers handle even plastic painted minis and wouldn’t let (some of) them near a resin model.
PS 49ers++. It’s not been easy the last few years but next year is our year!
Sounds like someone’s hoping for the next Joe Montana to arrive! 😀 😀
I’m hoping he arrived at the end of last season 🙂
Lightseeker Order: (entering for my daughters).
Order: Destruction
Elements: Void, Chaos, Entropy
Hero: Nocturn
Huston Oilers moved to a new city and became the Titans about 15 years ago.
Your thinking about the Cleveland Browns.
Superbowl February 4.
The average lineman is between 280 to 350 pounds.
It’s ok guys it’s our game. If you have questions just ask.
They moved twice, and were the Tennessee Oilers for a couple of years before becoming the Titans in 1999; the year of the Music City Miracle and ‘one yard short’. See, we know a bit on this side of the Atlantic :p
Mr Somegeezer you have a good quarterback again. That’s pretty much all you needed. Good luck in the draft.
It’s amazing the difference he’s made. I loved watching Kapernick, he was so hectic, but someone who can pass? This is a game-changer!
Now even I would not be able to do worse than the local football team 0 wins all season – ladies and gentlemen I give you the Cleveland Browns, the team so bad they try to get them to move to Baltimore (inside joke) – the Oilers seem to be a Canadian hockey team, but they should do better on the football field than the Browns
We all tried to warn you, @rasmus , when you told us you were moving to Cleveland. We all tried to warn you! 😀 😀 😀
I know… The mistake by the Lake, the burning river …
And don’t forget a city in the rustbelt with a team called the Browns … what are the colours?!
Orange and brown … just try that combi on a mini
Aside from the Browns, Cleveland have something going for it, great food and drink, loads of microbreweries – the Rockhall (Rock and roll hall of fame) and me
As we say in England: oh mate!
To the credit of the locals the had a parade in artic temperature – for the “perfect” season
ha! I love that!
Another great show guys. Lightseekers would be another great game to play with my Granddaughters. Will Lightseekeras be demo’ed anywhere in the USA. I’d love to check it our first hand. Again thanks!
Hey irondragon6 we are demoing it all round the USA at the moment it’s just a matter of when we get there! We’ll be at a lot of the big events this year including PAX and GenCon as well as lots of hobby shops. My advice would be to head over to http://www.Lightseekers.cards and from there you should be able to see our future dates for visits.
Going to Origins as well ?
Ben’s Secret Nudes! Cmon guys stop messin with his feed.
I laughed my butt off. Maybe next week we can see “Ben’s secret robbery plans” or “Ben’s erotic boudoir photo shoot”.
Two things I liked about Lightseekers. The really big easy to read cards and the inclusion of the card box. It is a little thing but huge because you have everything you need to get started.
Lightseeker Competition
Order: Fruit
Elements: Starfruit, Guava, Kumquat
Hero: Smoothie
haha I like your style 🙂
Thanks 🙂
I was torn between fruit or vegetables but isn’t that always the way in life?
@AZ No link for the Green Stuff World Paints?
Happy weekend. I am disappointed in your lack of American Football knowledge! 1 game on a Monday night, another on a Thursday, but most of them on the Sunday!
Back in the 80’s I played Avalon Hill’s Statis Pro Football plenty. A card game, but very tactical and played fast. Crash Tackle rugby is the only non-fantasy, non-futuristic, sports miniature game I’ve tried, though I prefer it with player tokens to minis as a game, just for clarity on the board.
Living in Canada, I player ‘our’ version of the game through high school and college – 12 a side, 3 downs, a field 33% larger with 25 yard deep endzones. Yes, you can run a 35-yard post from the 10 yard line. Plus the CFL’s motto from the mid 00’s or so wins, ‘Our balls are bigger’.
Vince McMahon of WWE wrestling fame(?) is also starting up the XFL again in 2020 (lasted 1 year in 2001) on his own dime. Might be interesting to see how that evolves. There is also the arena football league (indoors with side boards) and the Legends Football League**
**(somewhat NSFW if googling)
“Legends Football League: – originally the Lingerie Football League. Actually not kidding. They re-branded and gave the players more clothing to “update their act.” 😐
The Gridiron game does sound good but a little too rich for my blood at the moment unfortunately. Though I do remember there being a American Football set of rules for Blood Bowl published in one of the expansion books back in the 90s. Not that fun if I remember.
Also a Bears fan here. Got into watching in the 80s when it first started being shown on Channel 4. Walter Payton and William “The Fridge” Perry were my favourites.
Here in America we have this game call Electric football and the figures actually move on the board by themselves, when you turn the board on
Kujo painting on youtube is a great channel with some very detailed, insightful and well demonstrated tips for painting. His work is absolutely incredible. Always loved his guild ball Brewers paint jobs. Doesn’t get a massive amount of views so I’m guessing maybe he’s not so known?? Not sure, but if you haven’t checked it out take a look at his channel.
guest painters, hallelujah. you guys really don’t make the most of your position in regards to hobby. games companies fall over themselves to get on the show, what makes you think painters and paint ranges wouldn’t be the same? why not get scale75 in the studio to do a painting series to show off the range in the same way army painter did? having Dallas in to show off P3 last year was something else, your man was a class act. getting Angel in with Vallejo would be prime time box office. who’s painting god tier for steam forged? that would be both awesome and happening, same goes for mythic. given your relationship with these two i’m sure you could make it happen. outside off the big names like Jen Haley and Bohan there is some fine UK talent out there.
Ben stay strong mate. i’m down to just Infinity and my moonstone kickstarter.
it’s going to be tough though mate. STAR WARS legion and god tier are going to put the pressure on this year along with Potter.
i know the no new games extends to card games but what about RPGs and boardgames?
it’s going to kill you if you have to let Mythic battles Ragnarok or a potential mierce miniatures dungeon crawler pass by.
Actually his views have climbed now that I check again, was just grabbing the link — https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyMPU99KvmxIMkD8NZQu1tA
@thisisazreal definitely a nod to @dignity, also hang over from my D&T teaching days. As to the Primus reference 90’s metal band with the song Wynona’s big brown beaver – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYDfwUJzYQg
Glad you covered the greenstuff world paints, and I think that would be great for custodies, which I am totally not looking at since I realised it could be a 30 model army.
As to painters it is well worth looking at on twitter/twitch/youtube etc – Kujo miniatures, Brushworks studio, Trent Dennison, Kelfrei and Em (@ICantThinkEm ) who used to do some videos with Duncan
Order = Energy
Elements = Heat, Motion, Sound
Hero = Thermonator
Great show as always!
oh, and damn you guys I just backed Tiny Epic Zombie and picked up Tiny Epic Quest from Amazon.
You missed the best of the bunch, Tiny Epic Galaxy and the Beyond the Black Expansion
Happy saturday and welcome back Sam !
Shcheboor – this is how you should prenouce Ścibor GUS, I will teach you in february.
Lightseeker Order: Metal
Elements: Copper, Titanium, Mercury
Hero: Gold
A great show guy’s liking the light seekers card game, the new custodians look fabulous especially the bikes.
Happy weekend guys!
Welcome back on screen @dracs /Sam!
Stop talking about Star Wars Legion! or i’m going to give up resisting!
First, thanks very much! It’s great to be back.
Second, resistance is futile.
Lightseekers:
Order: Arcane
Elements: Knowledge, Lore, Alchemy
Hero: Eso
I meant to say, thanks very much to the team for the spotlight and kinds words re: the first part of our Vietnam article series. Indeed, our first article has been met with a great response, not only in the volume but also the temperament of comments. There haven’t been many disagreements, but even those few have been characterized by very civil, mature, and thoughtful debate.
This really is one of the most mature and polite communities it’s been my pleasure to run across on the web.
http://www.beastsofwar.com/gaming-in-the-vietnam-war/50th-anniversary-tet-offensive-part-one/
Welcome back to @dracs !
And don’t worry about pronouncing the name, @dignity . 😀 I still remember when Warren used to call me “Ork-i-shanee.” 😀 😀 😀
Yay!
Thanks for the mention of The Clowns guild.
An Agelast (pronounced AGE – as in “how old?” – and LAST – as in “Last in the queue”) was a word only common in Victorian times when there were so many social situations where laughing was not OK that some people prided themselves on not laughing or just developed the trait.
I was hoping to expand the roster with other bits from comedy history. I wrote a comedy trivia board game with over a 1000 questions. I guess some of the facts rubbed off on me.
The 7 Roman tenants of comedy (they did love to analyse things bless them) are not seen to actually cover all the bases today, but they were – Pastiche, Farce, Satire, Slapstick, Parody, Irony and Surrealism.
So Irony was going to be a beefy defender covered in frying pans and other metal based comedy props strung together as make shift armour.
Surrealism might not make it to the roster… But willing to take input as to what he might look like. 🙂
Those Vertus Praetors are just outstanding! If GW bring out anything better looking this year I will be amazed!
Lightseekers Order: Ocean
Elements: Water, Pressure, Salt
Hero: Riptide
haven’t played a training card game in years maybe its time to get back in to one.
Remember seeing the Lightseekers at UK Games Expo last year, had such a vibrant stand and look forward to seeing them there again this year.
Cleveland has not been any good since they left and went to Baltimore. The new Cleveland team has been atrocious. Good seeing you back Sam.
So I’d love to see more painters doing there thing on BoW. One who has inspired me a lot is James Wappel (http://wappellious.blogspot.com) – he’s constantly experimenting and showing off new techniques, including the colour shifting paints (I think he has a video coming up that will cover them).
But if you do get in guest painters, please make sure they show off differing techniques – there’s more than one way to skin a cat, and it’s good for people to see and try different things – it’s made all the difference for me over the last year.
Order: Enlightenment
Elements: Knowledge, Faith and Hubris
Hero: Logar
Welcome back @dracs!
Good show as ever. Can’t say much about American football, but I am a huge baseball fan (Go Blue Jays!) and thoroughly enjoyed the “bottom of the ninth” board-game which does a good job of replicating the key bits of a baseball game in a quick and consumable format. Lots of great expansions too, which I need to track down! So I can imagine if you’re a fan of the sport, and a game feels thematic, it can be great fun.
I picked up a couple of LightSeeker starter sets at PAX: Unplugged last year, and have enjoyed playing it now and again. Nice and clean, and very fast to play.
LightSeeker Order: Law
Elements –
Punishment
Capture
Judgement
Hero: Liberty
Another great show, its nice to see Sam.
I don’t know about Lightseekers. It looks cool for a younger audience. Tho it strikes me as a product designed by a marketing department.
Cleveland Oilers, LOL It was the The Houston Oilers(Tennessee for a few years in the late 90s), as in Texas and Oil. They have been Tennessee Titans for the last 18-19 years. While I’m a NY Giants fan I always liked Warren Moon and he played for the Oilers way back in the day. Then you have the Cleveland Browns who broke the record for longest losing streak in NFL history and its still going.
There is alot more than just throw, catch, run, score. While QBs and Recievers get alot of attention. I understand, those long pass plays for TDs are def exciting, there is alot more to the game. I think, a great offensive line, a strong run game, an amazing defense, reliable special teams, competent coaching staff and maybe a good game managing QB who doesn’t make alot of mistakes makes for a much better team than just some super star QB and wide receivers(still will need a good offensive line). But putting all that together can be alot harder than it might sound. Like my team the NY Giants spent over $100million on their defense and only won 3 games this year. While Injurys def took their tole there was alot of things to it.
My Lightseeker Order is Ocean and the elements are Surf, Tide and Pressure. The hero is Cetacean.
quick idea for an order.
order name = light
elements = absorption, emission and optics
hero name= prism
I’m a big fan of music during gaming! I try to make it match the theme of the game. But I don’t play it to loud.
Great Show guys!!!
Fourth Quarter Football is a great representation of the game on the table. I have been lucky enough to have a pre release set and have been playing for a few weeks now… I think there will be ‘various’ levels of game style to play so any board gamer who vaguely knows how US football works will be able to play it and enjoy it – no more fixing Blood Bowl rules to work like gridiron 🙂
Please, no more TCG crack, my wallet can’t take it!
