New Warhammer 40K: Kill Team Set! Ratlings Versus Ork Tankbustas
October 7, 2024 by brennon
Games Workshop previewed a neat new Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team set coming for the new edition of the game. With it being Orktober, Brutal And Cunning pits Ork Tankbustas, the Wrecka Krew, against plucky Ratling Snipers!
Brutal And Cunning // Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team
As the fighting around the Great Gun heats up, the Orks have got their eye on some tasty technology. That Great Gun does represent a lot of Dakka. With that in mind, they have sent in the Wrecka Krew to crush the defenders and grab some scrap on the way out.
Wrecka Krew Kill Team // Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team
This set comes with some heavily armoured Orks that can blow apart defences, vehicles and Ratlings with ease. If you prefer the up close and personal approach then you also have Tankbustas with rocket-tipped hammers. A classic loadout. The Kill Team is completed by a pair of Squigs who come laden with explosives. I don't think there's going to be a lot left when these Orks have been fighting.
Going up against the Orks, we have the Ratlings who are a very ranged-focused force. Take your shot and scarper!
Ratlings Kill Team // Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team
All of these Ratlings have had to scavenge their equipment from Astra Militarum supplies but they make great use of sniper rifles to pick off their enemies at range. You will also note that they have plenty of kit which helps them get from place to place. If the fighting gets too close, they can set traps to take down aggressors and their Battlemutt warns of incoming danger.
The Ratlings also have a special rule called Scarper which means if an enemy gets too close, they can dash away and get themselves in cover. I sense that these Ratlings are going to be quite the handful!
All of the fighting in this new set takes place in the Volkus Compound which is a more heavily fortified location.
Killzone Volkus Compound // Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team
This terrain fits in alongside the new scenarios from the Brutal And Cunning set where you'll be defending the breach against the enemy. The terrain is also modular so that you can represent where a wall has been damaged by just popping it out. The terrain also plugs into the ruins from the new edition core set so you can mix and match easily.
If you're tempted by this set, see if you've got a friend who would like to try out Kill Team with you!
A Ratling Vignette!
With Ratlings taking centre stage in the new Kill Team boxed set, it makes sense that they would also take the slot of the new festive miniature for 2024.
Provisionally Prepared // Warhammer 40,000
Provisionally Prepared represents a Ratling Sniper Team holding out in a warzone, popping heads from their vantage point. They also seem to have pilfered the supplies from the canteen and are enjoying a light snack to celebrate racking up so many kills.
A fun set to paint and I believe this is also going to get a scenario for you to play out in Kill Team as they hold out against the enemy.
An Emperor's Children Tease
Last but not least, Games Workshop also dropped a teaser for what's coming next year for Chaos Space Marine fans...
Emperor's Children Tease // Warhammer 40,000
After getting a lacklustre digital update earlier in the year, the Emperor's Children are going to be getting a full Codex next year alongside a rather exciting range refresh. There are whispers of a new plastic Daemon Fulgrim and I would hope that we'll see a new Lucius The Eternal and Noise Marines to match.
Kill Team and Emperor's Children; what are you most excited about?

Wouah des ratlings j’adhère complètement, après la superbe boîte hivestorm , les news warcrow c’est mon couple qui va prendre une claque en plus du portefeuille.
Ratlings are Halflings not skaven… this is getting confusing.
Even as an orc fan, this Kill Team leaves me a little cold. The Railings though are fab!
Cool Ratlings!
I have lots of Orks.
I love it. I love the Orks. I love the ratlings. I love Sly Lardo* in particular.
Top left: lasgun and “you call that a knife?”
The temptation to have 1 squad each of these Ratlings, WGA Sneakfeets and Vic Minis Hafling Snipers is great…..
loving these lil ratling dudes.
Gosh darn it…I think I have to get this. I’ve always liked Ratlings and have been wanting to get some Tankbustas for a while. I love the Orkiness of a rokkit-hammer. Great models all around!
