New Plastic Sisters Of Battle & Inquisitorial Henchmen On The Way For 40K [Updated]
December 20, 2016 by brennon
Games Workshop seems to be bringing some plastic Adeptas Sororitas to the tabletop in the new year alongside some additional Inquisitorial henchmen to build up a bank of characters based on the agents of the Imperium. You can see the leaks for Warhammer 40,000 HERE...
The image that we've seen so far reveals a unit of Seraphim in their golden armour with bright white wings behind them. It looks like they've taken on some of the skills they used when putting together the Prosecutors for Age of Sigmar and have used them for these new miniatures.
Still, as some people have pointed out they are going to be pretty to look at but hell to play with on the tabletop.
Update: Here is a much better picture of Saint Celestine and the Geminae Superia...
This all is joined by news of just what is around the corner for the world of Warhammer 40,000 as we look to the Fall Of Cadia (trailer above).
"The Eye of Terror is about to open and unleash a tide of darkness, Daemons and traitors into an already beset Imperium. Against the unified might of the Traitor Legions stand the heroes of the Cadian Gate, who will stop at nothing to drive back the Gathering Storm.
The scene is set for the most epic narrative in the history of the 41st Millennium – a fitting celebration of 30 years of Warhammer 40,000 and a great way to kick off the next 30 years of grim darkness in the far future."
This does sound like something quite cataclysmic and you can keep an eye on the Warhammer Community for more over the next few weeks.
Inquisitorial Retinue
It looks like the Sisters Of Battle are going to be fighting alongside a plethora of new units from the darker side of the Imperium. Another image showed off a Female Inquisitor/Witch Hunter.and a Magos. If anyone has played the Dark Heresy role-playing game you can see where this is going...
One would assume that as part of a larger force going forward the Sisters Of Battle will be the supporting cast for a range of new Imperial characters on the tabletop. This feeds much more into the compartmentalised and 'themed' way Games Workshop are doing lists now.
Since we've seen these plastic Seraphim along Celestine it would make sense that we're going to see some core troops soon too one would hope. How they turn out...we'll have to wait and see.
Update: As with Celestine we also now have better images of Inquisitor Greyfax...
...and Belisarius Cawl who is the size of a Carnifex!
One hopes that we're going to see a lot more supporting this. It would seem right that Celestine is followed into battle by her own warriors as well as the Astra Militarum when defending Cadia from the forces of Chaos.

Only the day the Harlequins were re-released beat today…..oh yeah and my wedding day…;).
As excited as I am about the return of the sisters and the look of the new models, I have to say that new lady Inquisitor is right up there with them. That model is almost exactly how I would have wanted it to look. Happily the Inquisition and my beloved Sisters are all in the same codex ;).
Happy days.
Looks like its going to be really steampunk!
I wonder will they ever return to Inquisitor (54 mm) but with standard figures?
or Killteam with inquisitor gangs…
The AOS stuff shows were they can go with dynamically posed figures – its a new era 🙂
I used to play Inquisitor in 28mm, we called it MiniQuisitor haha – just had to tweak a few of the measurements and fudge things on occasion.
Much easier to build warbands then. I think I had a sort of Hive Ganger warband and then one with an Inquisitor – man, must have the models around somewhere…
If Inquisitor is coming back from anywhere, then it’s going to be from the newly formed Specialist games that is part of Forge World.
As things stand now, I suspect they’re incredibly busy with Blood Bowl; plus there are rumours of epic scale Titans coming back, and I’d wager we’d see Necromunda before we saw Inquisitor .
But you know….the GW that has appeared in 2016 has been a rather strange (and lovely) beast, so who knows?
There is actually quite a large following for Inq28/Inquisimunda. I believe there’s an event that’s going to happen (entirely fan made) based at Warhammer World. tbh the models people are creating from the rules are beautiful and weird as they should be.
Personally I’d rather see GW devote resources to resurrecting epic instead. Nothing against Inquisitor (I never cared for the rules honestly, they felt pretty clunky for what they were doing … some sort of hybrid between an RPG and a minis game). As Brennon said in our group we tended to use 28MM (though a few of us went all in on the range of 54mm stuff) just so we had more terrain, etc. … decent 54mm terrain is not easy to come by for most of us …
Loving these 🙂
Flyers look a little fragile though (from a guy who drops models)
A solution to that. Place small metal weights all around underneath the base and wear thin gloves with magnets woven into the tips. 😛
Don’t worry, they are “Flyers” after all.
One wouldn’t mind dropping a bird either : D
I love what I see there. Greyfax and Crawl are amazing !
You’d be doing well to break them. I reckon I’ve knocked my Stormcast Prosecutors off the table or shelf a dozen times and they’re still fine. One major upside of plastic minis.
Do you think models like these are GW fighting recasters in addition to just being beautiful? I cannot imagine a recaster being able to copy these models in resin. I’ve never liked the IP poachers in the first place and simply making your model harder to fake seems like a wonderful way to fight those people off.
@paragon I’ve thought the same thing for a while. Sometimes the GW models I’m building seem way over engineered for what they are. Would make it a nightmare to build in resin.
My wife adores the Sisters and this year spent big on the Raging Heroes kickstarter to field a Sisters Army, and now this teaser drops. Well! Looks like I know where our hobby fund will be going for a month or two, lol.
Not a bad thing. As the saying goes; happy wife…. lol
Awesome 😀
That’s 3 years on the trot GW have ensured that my january pay is spoken for lol
Im liking the synergy between plastic 30k releases and 40k evolved versions as it was pretty much a forgone conclusion that SoB’s would be getting plastic releases given how well done the Sisters of Silence were sculpted for burning of prospero, gives them a solid visual vocabulary to evolve from
@brennon think my 40k 8th theory is getting stronger every time they release flavor factions 😉 now for them to be brave with the fluff…
There’s a live Twitch event on at 13:00 GMT today. Campaign seems to be called ‘Gathering Storm’. I’m pretty sure an event with the same name preceded ‘The End Times’ in WFB. I’m getting worried now!
@irredeemable i have a wild theory of how 40k end times will pan out but in a nutshell emperor returns, as does russ, the lion, dorn and girlyman, cypher kicks its all off and is a good guy after all, and the imperium/lords of terra get levelled by returned primarchs and emperor, mars kneels to the one person who RTFM’d every STC (the emperor) and half of the imperium gets cut off and creates a new renegade faction who act very much like rouge traders, tau become the ascendent empire, elder unite and orks get smart, necrons wake up, chaos gets in its own way, and the nids eat everything, with 40k 8th being told from the perspective of the events trying and failing to stop the nids
A division in the Imperium would give them a lot of opportunities for new styles.
Although do you think this could just be their way of catching the current storyline up to the 13th Black Crusade? Cadia was left a war-torn ruin after that. I have the White Dwarf with the results somewhere but I’m pretty sure control of Cadia was split right down the middle.
I think the new 13th crusade is the prelude to the endtimes, along with the warzone fenris stuff, thats brought magnus to the 40k table, perfect opportunity for russ to stop mucking about in the warp and come back….
And not so much a division of the imperium but more of a contraction i.e. they are not seperatists but cut off due to needing to refocus defence on the core of the empire and those who fall the wrong side of the line are cut off and blockaded out… Would make interesting ally options, as they could realistically join tau as citizens or go for a more piratical approach ala DE raiders, or even turn to chaos and give GS Cults free reign to take control
I believe the table of contents for the Agents of the Imperium was released and don’t recall seeing Sisters of Silence on that list.. does anyone know if those boxed set models will also be useable in 40K/Kill Team ? do they have another name in that table of contents I just missed?
I know that it’s easy to knock GW, but over the past year or so it seems as though they have actually started listening to their customers, amazing deal bundles for starter armies, Plastic Heresy Marines and now Plastic Sisters, well done GW !
It all looks great, although I’m slightly surprised the SoB that are leaked are the Seraphim and not the bog standard Battle Sisters.
I’d have thought the latter, i.e. the Battle Sisters, would be released (and thus leaked) first, so I’m slightly worried that we might not see all of SoB stuff come out (that said I would find it very odd if Battle Sisters weren’t redone).
I guess Sisters of Silence are not too far from an independent of the board game release either?
I’m slightly worried that there’s not going to be any new Battle Sisters; Warhammer TV suggests that it’ll be Saint Celestine only, leading a Black Templars Crusade to the Cadian Gate. And that makes me sad… 🙁
Near the end:

Don’t forget that this is just a preview of 2017 and the Fall of Cadia is just one release. Have faith my friend ;).
Glad to see the Seraphim being redone. I was tempted to pick up a couple of squads recently to use along side my Grey Knights but the sculpts put me off. the metal tags coming down from the feet just gave the impression they hadn’t been taken off the sprue. GW have got a lot more creative and clever when it comes to flying models so while they might be fragile, they’ll look great.
And that new Mechanicus Techpriest looks absolutely brilliant. The best one yet.
The techpriest is lookin awesome. The amount to detail is something @warzan talked about on one of the Weekenders. It can be a real pain to paint 😉 The flying gals resemble these flying dudes with bows/javelins from AoS Stormcast Eternals faction, but still I like them.
Apparently he’s the size of a Carnifex!
Prosecutors 🙂 – Yeah they really have drawn from that posing
I’m tempted to get them and convert them to AoS. Really just need to loose the guns and replace them with a shield or something like that.
I do like what I’m seeing!
The female inquisitor looks spot on 😎
Need to get all those plastic heresy marines I’ve got done so I can justify throwing more money at GW..
@nakchak
Can’t reply to you for some reason up there.
But Rob has just posted in the Twitch comments that
“Hey gang, in case you missed Rob’s message -2017 is 40K’s 30th anniversary. So we’re kicking the year off with a bang and ramping up from there. Don’t worry, your galaxy will still be here at the end of it. Just sporting some cool new editions and the remnants of epic confrontations!”
Another comment,
additions ie a massive warp rift…
sweet 😀
New campaign book shown – looks so good!
New plastic Inquisitor confirmed as Inquisitor Greyfax from the Ordo Hereticus.
Belisarius Cawl is the new Archmagos. He’s from the 30k timeline!
Wow this one has been a looooooooooong time coming! I’m very interested to see shots of sprue, etc.
Something else to take from all this is the timing. The lads have said that this story arc will roll right through 2017 and into 2018. If the campaign books are broken up over that time (or at least the Gathering Storm having two parts) then it runs right through when we think 8th edition will drop. With campaigns and releases cluttering around it I can’t see it being the huge change that many think it will be. Definitely nothing onto AoS.
I think 40k endtimes will be to rules and mechanics of army building not the universe, other than to ratchet the story onwards, could be a cunning way to introduce new ruleset via a global campaign, buy book 2 of campaign series, get the new rules free sort of thing
If they could just make it a bit easier/faster and combine all the rules for a unit to something similar to an AoS warscoll then they can have all my money’s .
At last GW has answered prayers of every SoB and Inquisition player. New 40k army, here I come.
Out of curiosity I just checked the price of the metal sisters still in print on GW’s website and nearly choked. A ten figure retributor squad for 103$? A normal SoB squad for 80$? That’s completely over the top, even for GW. How did that happen?
They’re not actual squad box sets but rather the collection of blister packs needed to make them. So you’re really paying for the Sister Superior, Special Weapons team, Icon Bearer and 2X Battle Sisters. All metal.
That’s still a ridiculous price. And what happened to the box sets? Because they used to have those. Even then, the only difference between the two is packaging.
Oh it’s a bonkers price for a single squad. The starting price for a full Sisters of Battle army is crazy high.
I actually managed to watch it live today. Those new figures are so cool,i especially like the saint.
Also the big mech guy thats 10000 years old is awesome, maybe hes been looking after those marines in mars that warzan mentioned not long ago on a XLBS.
Very excited to see whats in store for us this year!!
I look those Seraphim.
More information has popped up on the Warhammer Community site. The central Seraphim is Celestine! https://www.warhammer-community.com/2016/12/20/gathering-storm-first-look/
What? Plastic SoB?! ALREADY?!
Cimgratulations. Please accept one (1) Internet. 🙂
Liking the Sisters but my word! That Inquisitor is an instant buy for me! She looks spectacular!
GW is starting to remind me of an old girlfriend who is hell bent on the two of us getting back together. Pulling out all the stops now to try and seduce me and making promises of all the wonderful things which could be again.
I haven’t cracked GW…..but now I see you may have matured, I may yet be persuaded.
One things for sure though….if you try and fleece me again like you did in the past, its all over for good, period!
Gawd I need to be careful over Christmas…..with alI that booze in me I hope I don’t end up doing something which I regret!
Haha. With the ex girlfriend or with the shiny plastic mini’s?
Both Mate…..that’s what makes it doubly scary!
lol … yeah, GW do seem to be doing a lot of really good and interesting things lately.
Let’s hope the trend continues and that if/when the new rules for 40k do appear they have dared to bring them into this century (we can hope … ).
So it will finally happen. 🙂
The models look good, although maybe a bit too shiny and clean for the grimdark. It doesn’t quite fit the oldschool, grungy, heavy metal artwork. But I guess the right paint job can solve that.
The teaser trailer appealed even more to me. It took me a little while to realize this is probably Abaddon we’re listening to.
Greyfax is nice but that Belisarius thing is unbelievably busy. When are they going to get that less is more.
Let’s hope the price isn’t discouraging.
I’m the complete opposite. I love the busyness of Belisarious as I feel that’s exactly how a 10,000 year old Archmagos would look. Continuously adding upgrades and extensions with no thought given to aesthetics.
I’m not blown away by Greyfax at all. I think it’s the pose of the left arm but she looks like a clunky action figure to my eyes. If you compare her to the metal Ordo Hereticus Inquisitors from the time of Codex Witch Hunters I think they’re all far superior. A clenched fist, more threatening colour scheme for the armour and I’ll be slicing off (or just not adding) the hat candle. It makes her look like a Discworld character.
Tech priest looks insane. Also named after a nice Welsh stew.
Celestine and the seraphim look great in plastic. So much more dynamic than their old incarnations.
That inquisitor though. So nice. Inquisition warband for 2017 for me.
Hmm, plastic Sisters of Battle. Only a decade too late.
Inquisitor is fantastic! I’m not much interested in sisters, but they are well done, and the admech guy is a bit busy for my taste.
Good stuff.
Honestly I really love these models and think they are some of the best I’ve seen in ages.
Saint Celestine is pretty much exactly what I hoped for in her update, and she gets two cool looking bodyguards as well.
Love the female Inquisitor too, what a nice surprise! I love that she has a candle on hat, allthough I personally wouldn’t ask her for a light when I wanna smoke one up, as I expect it is for burning heretics.
The admech dude is basicly blanche personified to me, it’s insane, overly detailed and crazy but that is a style I like. I hope this a sign of future mechanicus, as while I thought that range was well done, I really wanted more bizarre stuff like this.
I am going to speculate this will be all the models they do for this release (“the new black crusade book”) as I think the rest of the month will Tzeentch : https://war-of-sigmar.herokuapp.com/bloggings/1524
so I think the rest of january will be tzeentch, and then maybe in feb we will see the full sisters army? I could be wrong of course, but it’s fun to speculate right?
Please excuse my fanboyism.
@bstractalien Would be rude not to give the female inquisitor a retinue of bodyguards known as the apoptygma berzerkers….
Could add some Suicide Commandos as part of the Front Line Assembly, should all number 242 as well of course.
Looking for prices…
they do look good, especially the inquisitor and cawl.
a little sad to see the metal sisters army go though. it was my favourite army outside of forge world. always thought it was nice that they had a tip of the hat to the old school.
understand them getting a resculpt and going to plastic mind and i’m probably in the minority wishing they had cast them in metal.
might be a good time to pick up the metals as I always fancied painting that army.
After browsing the website the word ‘no’ comes to mind. Do people really pay this?
Did you find prices for these guys?
You’re probably looking at the old metal ones they currently have for sale. They’re silly money and even I can’t believe people pay that for them.
Still more cartoony than i’d like, and not true to scale obviously, alas, but none-the-less my interest is garnered, and that tech priest is interesting.
the new era of GW is a company I feel I can get behind again, maybe I’ll dust off the orks soon.
Really hoping that the SoB’s aren’t just a couple character models and more pushing the far more expensive and old metal ones…
I haven’t been serious about 40K since I returned to gaming in 2001 and found that my beloved 40K army’s name had become the standard term for an army being cancelled. The pain was unbearable, I hated 40k, GW and Jervis (mainly for his explanation …. It was selling but we couldn’t make the fluff work !!!!!!????!!!! WTF!!!!!) and I didn’t believe there was a way back for me. ** Cue Sad Music ***
I remembered my scrapbook of cut out info from White Dwarf. The happy day when Gw collected it all in a White Dwarf Annual. The cute litte minis with beards bikes and funny walker suits .. ahhh. .. and I thought %$$% you 40K, obviously I am not your target audience. Over the years I mellowed dabbled in a few orks or Raven Guard. Loved 30K to bits started to follow and buy the campaign books starting with Sanctus Reach. The only time, the red mist descended was when my less than masculine, pointy eared freak loving friend would start banging on about the new High/Dark/Wood Elf or Dark Eldar/ Eldar nodels (and then Harlequins!!!!! $%$ there was almost murder). I still haven’t taken the plunge and started collecting an army.
Long story, short (ish) These models are great and I am sorely tempted to leap in. Particularly with the way they are finally advancing the story. We will see (although you can put money on the fact I won’t be playing Eldar of any description)
Not impressed to be honest. I would use raging heroes as proxy if i would like to play them. Their estetic appeal to me more mow this days.
@radegast6 the raging heroes daughters of the crucible are unbelievable good
They look great. Hoping for an entire plastic range that can make this army affordable.
will this be a campaign box like Calth / Prospero or the new 40K box in the works?
