Mantic Games launched their new board game Kickstarter this week for Assassin's Creed: Animus! You'll be able to deep dive into the video game and take on the role of iconic characters like Altair, Ezio, Kenway and Cassandra as you face the Templar threat throughout the ages.

When you dive into a game of Assassin's Creed: Animus, you will truly be able to pick from all the various eras that the video game franchise has explored over the years. Play as Altair, exploring the streets of Middle Eastern cities during the time of the Crusades or Eivor, raiding and plundering their way across the British Isles during the Viking Age.

You will pick your favourite Assassin and then snap up your player dashboard, which is themed to your time period. From there, you'll equip your gear and then dive into hunting your targets. You'll move around different locations on the board, playing special cards that can be used to advance your adventure. Other Animus Cards can then be played to foil the plans of other players as whilst you might all be Assassins, you're racing against each other throughout in an asymmetric challenge.

The game seems fascinating and I like the asymmetrical nature of using the different Assassins, allowing you to have all of the different time periods interacting at once. It should be fascinating to see what it's like once you chop and change which characters are involved, especially with this being a two-to-four player game.

When it comes to pledges, you'll have two options to choose from when you dive in. You can either go for the Initiate Pledge or the Master Assassin Pledge.

Both of the pledge options will include Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed III, Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and Assassin's Creed: Shadows. It should be noted that both Valhalla and Shadows come with Kickstarter Exclusive miniatures representing the other Eivor and both Yasuke/Fuijibayashi.

If you go for the Master Assassin Pledge, you get access to Assassin's Creed: Unity, Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, Assassin's Creed: Origins and Assassin's Creed: Syndicate. This is in addition to any of the unlocked Standard and Deluxe Stretch Goals that you'll unlock as the Kickstarter campaign continues.

With Mantic Games doing great work on other intellectual properties of late, like Halo: Flashpoint and Worms, the unique features of Assassin's Creed: Animus feel like they could draw in a lot of Assassin's Creed and general board game fans to try this one out.
