Not-So-Bored Games has returned to Kickstarter to try at another run for their 28mm miniatures to be used in such games as Pandemic. They have regrouped and have a come up with a new plan to be successful this time around.

What is it that they are trying to accomplish? Well, they believe that having some special miniatures can help enhance your game experience. I agree with them, replacing the wooden or plastic generic pieces with some nicely detailed miniatures helps to add to the atmosphere of the game.

Within this campaign, they war looking to create three different levels of miniatures, from the base set of seven that will easily fit into standard disaster board games up to a 15 and finally 23 unique miniatures to give you a wider choice of miniatures.

They have enlisted the help of Chad Hoverter of the Mice & Mystic fame sculptor to help bring the miniatures to life. Also helping with the concept design is Jens Bengtsson, a designer from Sweden. A nice international mixer of talent.

They have many different pledge levels to fit all kinds of budgets and interests. You can even back at a certain level to help chose a miniature in your or someone you know's likeness. I am considering doing that level to choose the helicopter pilot and having it done in my father's likeness as a tribute to him as he was an incredible U.S. Army helicopter pilot for many years.

The following is the list of miniatures they are looking to create:

Base Level

  • Researcher
  • Hazmat Suit
  • Computer Aided Dispatcher
  • Planner
  • Scientist
  • Foreman
  • Medic

Epidemic Level

  • Helicopter Pilot (Male)
  • Pantsuit (Female)
  • Military Officer (Male)
  • Field Operative (Female)
  • Hooded Gas Mask (Unisex)
  • Suit (Male)
  • Field Doctor (Female)
  • Surgeon (Male)

Pandemic Level

  • Hazmat Suit #2 (Male)
  • Pharmacist (Male)
  • Field Operative #2 (Male)
  • Field Operative #3 (Female)
  • Archival Technician (Male)
  • Lab Technician #1 (Female)
  • Lab Technician #2 (Male)
  • Lab Technician #3 (Female)

A nice well-rounded list that gives you a nice variety to choose from for many of your games.

Why not take a look at the Kickstarter page and see for yourself. They are half way funded at the time of this article.

Do you think miniatures adds to the board game experience?
