KOSMOS are going to be taking a jaunt into the world of Middle-earth later this year with a new cooperative board game, The Lord Of The Rings: Adventure To Mount Doom.

The Lord Of The Rings: Adventure To Mount Doom // KOSMOS

This new game has been designed as a cooperative family affair where you and your companions will take on the role of The Fellowship as they make their way across Middle-earth trying to throw The One Ring into the fires of Mount Doom.

During gameplay, you'll take on the role of the individual members of the Fellowship, moving them across the board using a special dice-based mechanic. Different coloured dice determine which figures can be moved and the value of those dice dictates the distance they can travel. Let's hope there is a little bit more to it beyond just a standard "roll and move" style affair.

But what of the threats to The Fellowship? Well, black dice also get rolled and these will trigger different foes like the dreaded Nazgul and also bring encounters to the fore. Additional encounter cards then build on the threats that lie ahead of you on the path to Mount Doom.

I have to say, I am totally on board with the artwork for the cards and the game board. I'm not totally sold on the look of the cover for the game but I reckon I can forgive that if the gameplay itself hits all the right notes. As I mentioned, I'm a little wary of the dice-rolling for movement but it will be interesting to see how it actually works in practice. It's also Middle-earth and I am a sucker for anything set in that Fantasy world.

Could you be tempted to give this a shot later this year?
