Another great show.
My favorite minis are the chaos ones, the sculpts are amazing, so great detail and look really dynamics
I have to admit that the new Chaos marine miniatures are looking pretty good. I still wonder if they are getting some none marine options like traitor guard.
Im liking the new Chaos stuff. Not sure if it beats the Geanstealer cult for my affections though.
I’m sure I could find something to do with both sides
Chaos all the way
As an “grumpy” aside, I noticed the conditions for winning prizes on the Weekender has changed from “Comment for a chance to win” to “like, subscribe, share and comment to be in with a chance of winning”.
Now for those of us on the OTT site it’s pretty impossible to do the “Share” option, and totally impossible for those of us that don’t dangle our feet (and precious hobby time) into the evils of “social media” (and facebooktwitterapps and such like, ludditegrognard grumble).
Been wondering why all the winners for the weekender prizes have been on YouTube……..
So it would be better to change it to “Make sure to like, subscribe, share and comment on our Youtube Channel to be in with a chance of winning”, thus punters are directed to where they need to go for a chance of winning and not thinking its still the same old system and posting here (as well as Youtube). Hey it’s social media and you need to spread the word to broaden the number of viewers to the site, so it’s an understandable condition. But I think many of us thats been commenting (and moaning 😀 ) on the Beast of War site for many a year have forgotten to actually read (and just assume) nothing has changed.
I’ve never played Warhammer 40K, but because I was a US Marine (a long time ago), I have no doubt the Space Marines would be my favorite faction. The minis look cool, their paint schemes are incredible and they’re some badass motherfuckers! Semper Fi! OORAH!
Once A Marine, Always A Marine
Slings are super easy to make I do it all the time. $2 worth of Jute String makes about two and a half slings, half and hour each to make and you’re good to go.
Before I first used one I just wrote them off but once you see just how far and fast you can sling a rock it makes complete sense.
The Romans would sometimes issue them to regular Legionaries, they’re so easy to use you can deploy them enmasse with little experience.
Nice to see an old Hammer Studio reference @avernos if anyone’s going to steal your project it might as well be Dr. Frankenstein/Van Helsing
I prefer to think of it as Air Commodore William Raymond stealing the death star to help out his old buddy Biggles
Does that mean Christopher Lee is Algy?
It’s the Weekend!
Happy Weekend!
(Tut… People’s manners nowadays…) 😉
Looking forward to locking gazes with Gerry across the head-tops that will be the intervening treacherous terrain of the Salute peoplescape!
I’m bringing platform shoes
Chaos!!!Finally my favorite faction Chaos, Black Legion espacially, is getting the love they neede.
I dig the idea of the Vanguard being Space Marines who actually DO get Tactical, but I think the Chaos Space Marines portion just looks more interesting….
Deamonkin for me…. those Primaris are a bit too deus ex machina for me
I think for this one I would wan the vanguard but rather than keep them as they are I would look to maybe do some work on them to make them a little corrupt as if they were turning traitor and had defected to a planet with daemonkin.
Happy Weekend all.
I’m a long time Space Marine player,so it’s the Primaris for me.Those new jump troops are looking great.Gripping Beast have announced a pre-order for the ( old ? ) Revenant Warband and a Shieldmaiden Warband as well.
For doing shots a lot of the time the slinger would just stuck his thumb into a bucket of sand and use that as the mould. They have found some shot with finger(or is that thumb) prints on them
It’s a bit hard not to vote Chaos on this one – the new stuff looks fantastic. Keen to see how it scales with the older models – is the “re-scaling” of 40k still evidenced here…
Just before I start watching, I am guessing Lloyd has shunted some trains into the running order… he looks too chuffed!
Please don’t wave your hands in the air when doing Kermit hands. I wasn’t concentrating properly and thought you were doing the International sign for distress and phoned the police. I have to say they weren’t very understanding and I’m hoping to get away with a community service order for wasting police time
lol 😀
At first I liked the Chaos but those Marines have really grown on me after seeing some conversions of the Suppressors.
Although I prefer Imperial Guard, in Shadowspear it’s the Chaos minis that intrigue me. So, we will see!
Imperial Space Marines – and add them to my Dark Angels and Black Templars. After reading many Gaunt’s Ghosts novels, I find myself instinctively fighting against The Forces of Chaos.
Really like the chaos marines. But the marines look cool. Gonna have to get this and convert the marines to Space Wolves
I like this one (chaos) but I also like this one (marines) if you win a copy you collect both. This is one great boxed set.
Ha, airports.
I just got my wife to bring back the new Night’s Watch starterset for A Song Of Ice And Fire from America for me.
She put it in her handluggage so it wouldn’t get damaged on her way back. She wasn’t impressed because she got stopped and had to take the box out. They had to put the box through the scanner three times before they let her through.
I think that’s the last time she brings anything back for me from America. 🙂
I normally don’t like Chaos miniatures but I really like these ones in the Shadow Spear box.
But I still would pick the Primaris Space Marines.
Happy weekend!
The Shadowspear box looks soooo good!
I’m torn by the factions, I collect both but I think the Librarian swings it for me, what a great model!
So for the new Chaos stuff, you dont need to buy the new Codex but you can use the the one from 2 years ago but you need to buy Shadowspear, some PDFS and and a campaign book to have all the new material to keep your force up to date. Seems strange
it’s pretty much the GW way, buy buy buy. I remember they released a dark elf army book a year apart because it needed updated.
But I thought this was the age of the cuddly and fluffy GW who were in touch with the common man
Oh, they’re in touch with you & your wallet! ?
lol
To be fair, if one bought the electronic version of the codex, one gets the updated electronic version for free….
That can’t have happened often.
If you have the digital version it is being updated for free. TBH i don’t see what more they can do. Short of someone coming round to the house of everyone with a physical copy of the codex and glueing extra pages in, how are you going to avoid extra paperwork?
Gerry, you will have to ditch 4Ground, sneak out and have a drink with the London local Beasts.
The Frostgrave mat looks great. Will see if they have in a 3 x 3.
Love the Laughingboy kitbash idea. Defiantly interested. Never played Mordheim so will need to research first. ? Great show. Now off to bed. Night shifts are pants sometimes.
Faction in the box? From W40k? Or any faction ever? Chaos, Orks, Imperium (Star Wars)
Mike Loades is great to watch. I’ve got a couple of his books, which are fantastic, he writes with the same amount of enthusiasm as he talks.
Wonder if they’re on audible and if so does he narrate them; needs to be him doing it to get the full effect. 😉
i think from painting, chaos are more the more interesting faction
The new Chaos Space Marines look really good. I’m almost tempted, speaking as a decade long Imperial player – I’m even in bed, Nurglified at the moment!
At any rate, I’m at least looking forward to playing against them if not with then.
Great show guys, a nice way to start a Saturday
THANKS
Happy Weekend! & goodbye Youtube monetisation ?
Definitely liking the new Vanguard Marines from Shadowspear.
I’m for the Imperium. Thanks for the show, see you all tomorrow.
OMFG Shadowspear! I’d play Chaos because they look awesome! The Alt-Chaos marines (the blue ones according to Gerry) are fine models too and I’d play them too. GW won me back when they released Rogue Trader for Kill Team, bringing me back to when the first Rogue Trader came out and I played Space Orks vs Womble Marines. I still like the beaky helmeted gents.
so Chaotic I’d keep my eyes on Horus 2.0 or Rowboat as he insists on calling himself!
I’d go Chaos for Shadowspear but wouldn’t be getting being painted black… its Chaos, open to every colour under the sun and they paint them black…
Also those Warlord/Saxon Miniatures are fantastic as are the new Footsore cavalry command. Agreed with Gerry on Paul Hicks. I particularly like his faces.
They’re painted black because Black Legion are the Smurfs of Chaos. ?
Great show again. Maybe Chaos, but the marines are nice too.
i like all the minis in this set however i have to leen towards the marines as it was the new primarus figures that got me back into 40k
The new Chaos minis are fantastic!
It may he an unpopular opinion, but I haven’t added any Primaris models to my collection yet, so I must say the Vanguard in the Shadowspear box are looking pretty good to me!
Un-spikey Chaos!
New Primaris models look awesome!
Oh for a venomcrawler to tiptoe into my Deathguard…… Yup my pick is the ruinous powers of chaos
Any terrain in a SW game – that’s the beauty of 40k too; slap anything down and you can justify it. Even something like Infinity terrain that’s too sleek and ‘clean’ can be explained away as belonging to a minor Xenos faction. In fact the way things are in 40k you could even slap down sci-fi stuff next to unmodified Dark Age stuff and it fits.
Spikey Castle – I can imagine it’d get annoying quickly if you keep catching your hands on the spikes. Not as bad as a block of pikemen with brass pokes mind you, ?.
Mike Loades is historian gold.
I’m with Justin; those footprints are just Bob wandering about.
Frostgrave lighting would be great for Mordheim too. 😉
As usual, I wanted to attend Adepticon this year. But once again work has risen up and slapped that bit of hope out of my hand and shredded that dream to bits. I’ll be relieing on Dawn & Gianna to give me that “you are there experience” through their reports and interviews.
The Norman leaders look sharp and the Breton Chargers will make great conscripts for my Norman army.
Spectre Miniatures are currently shipping their new rulebook ‘Spectre Operation Second Edition’. It’s a really well put together book and builds on the first edition. I’m looking forward to diving deep into this volume and generating some interesting Modern Warfare 28mm scenarios for the tabletop! If you missed it “G” gave us a first look at this new rulebook on Thursday’s SITREP Twitch Channel.
As far as the box set goes, I want it all. I love the direction the sculpts are going.
Favorite faction is Chaos, Word Bearers FTW
I watched the unboxing, now I want this! I like the chaos but I prefer the marines of course
I need them for my Alpha Legion…Both of them…>:)
So many great minis in the box that would make great kill teams.
Great show.
And that fortress does have Army of Darkness written all over it.
Gonna have to roll with the Vanguard – Space Marines
I do love the new shadowspear box, I’m a fan of most of the 2 army boxes GW do. Problem with the new chaos marines is the same one I’ve always had, that they’re a bit too ornate the easily nurglify. Shouldn’t complain too much though as nurgle has had the most new kits in the past few years though.
Great show as usual, in response to which faction do i like the most in Shadowspear i have only one thing to say:- “Hail the God-Emperor of Mankind!”
A really good selection of kickstarters this week and in particular being just on the spectrum myself i really love both the concept and design work of Critical Core. My youngest son is also on the spectrum so i will definitely be looking to get a hold of this for when he gets old enough to engage in roleplaying.
I have to just say, the intro to Warren meets Matt cracks me up to no end, i am literally in tears every time i see it!! 🙂
Can’t wait for the XLBS guys, keep up the great work your doing.
ould love to start over with 40k, sold all my stuff a while ago. I really like the Vanguardn marines
As far as which faction in Shadowspear I prefer goes all I have to say is Death the the False Emperor. Those new Chaos Space Marine models have made me like Chaos even more. I was already building Death Guard army but those make wish that I had picked some generic legion like Black Legion instead one dedicated to one of most popular if not the most popular Chaos God.
Happy weekend guys!!
Shadowspear factions? How can you make someone choose between all those new awesome sculps? I think when it came down to it, it would have to be the new chaos guys, mainly the possessed I really like these new ones, it really is great to see some new releases for them.
I can’t make salute this year 🙁 I’m moving house that weekend so can’t even squeeze it in. I’m intrigued by your visit to 4ground though! I’ve liked the look of all their releases and upcoming stuff, sneak out my fabled realms pledge while your there too!! I’ve not managed to pursuade Big Ben to release mine yet ?
Krennick is awesomr, dare I say that Rogue One is my favorite star wars film ? its definitely up there with one of my favorite sci-fi films of all time. Anything from that film is going to be a win but the sculpt really is good, definitely better than some of the other characters that FFG have released.
I love that frostgrave mat! Its so awesome, I’m definitely going out and getting that one. I love how the snow doesnt cover it all, it will go great with the ruins of daldor buildings from 4ground!!
The demonkin are my favourite. Great show fellas.
Hi Lloyd,
The space marines are the best 🙂 Really kewl sculpts.
Cheers,
Max
I’d go for the Chaos Marines, simply because I don’t like primaris marines. It would be a great start for an Emperor’s Children army.
It’s got to be the Chaos Space Marines, especially with the release of Abaddon.
The new Marines do look great though.
Awww, that chaos stuff is tugging on my walletstrings. Nice!
Enjoyed the Weekender once again. Not quite as frantic as some in the past. The Shadowspear boxed set looks like a great starter set for the “new” generation of Space Marines and Traitor Astartes. I’ve shied away from the Primaris Marines, mostly because of my ton of metal and older generation plastic marines waiting in the closet to be assigned chapters and painted up. So, to pick a side, I would go with the spiky traitors. While my current chaos army are grey mkIV Word Bearers with Forge World Gal Volbek popping up when you least expect it (probably should all be mkIII grey) the Vigilus Daemonkin could still work right in.
Really want shadowspeiar just so I can paint contrasting camo clokes
Spikey ones for sure.
Want the chaos army for shadowspear but am sure the other half will claim them and I will have to boost my marine army….such a shame..NOT.
@avernos if you want anything posted back to BOW HQ meet me at salute and I can send them via DPD from work no problem.
cheers buddy, I should be okay, but my favourite part was when Justin wondered if London would have somewhere to post things from 😀 😀 😀
happy weekender folks.
Sick and tired of space marines… they’re just so… bland…
So I’d have to choose Demonkin… they have some texture.
like the chaos minis in the box set, they just look better. Really like the spider tank not practical just a nice model.Reminds me of the creature from maze runner
Those chaos modles look sick i like it
love the lights @warzan you will have to have them going for the Nazaire dock raid.
https://www.warhistoryonline.com/world-war-ii/8-facts-greatest-raid-st-nazaire-raid.html
love the weekender video guys.
Here is one unlucky git, always. 🙁
I just love Gerry , what with his ” As long as they don’t touch quote ” and his approach to Orkish negotiations. XLBS on Sunday should be a riot, Keep it up Gerry.
Love the Jungle Terrain!
Just for the new Abaddon mini to lead them I may have to go Black Legion, but I think I would include a mix of blue, red, green and pink shoulder pads amongst the units to represent the 4 gods and make painting them a bit more interesting
YNWA Gerry mate!
Hello fellow gamers. Just getting to this as I spent the day at the local hobby town USA where they had a 40k tournament. Genesteelers won first place. I did not play as I was too busy painting up 9 more Rohan Royal Guard CAV. Right @warzan and @dracs no surprise there!
As far as shadowspear, I took a good look at the box today at the store, those space marine vanguard are awesome so I’d have to say they are my favorite for sure!
Chaos for sure
Space marines for sure, love the flying marines. You guys sure love saga, gonna go do some research and see if it’s something for me lol.
The new chaos minis look really good.
Great show as always lads 🙂
My favorite Faction is Space Wolves.
I’d probably go with the Space Marines..but they don’t seem really Blood Angely…seem more Ultramarines
Yeo its the weekender and Gerry is there 13/10
Looks good favourite faction would be the space marine vanguard
Thx for the show.
We are Legion and i am Alparius. So i would work out my Alpha Legion. So let me win.
Just put in my pre order for the new Vigilus book and good old Abaddon, so it’s Chaos for me at the moment. Somewhere down the track though I leaning toward starting either a White Scars or Salamanders army, so both sides will probably end up getting some table time :).
Shadowspear – Sounds great and really encouraging that the chaos are compatible with the older kits, means all my still-on-sprue boxes of Chaos can be mixed together seamlessly.
Loved the Frostgrave mat! But the logos on mats really irk me, ruins the fantasy.
always chaos – blood for the blood god
I’ve always been tempted to paint a lizardman army, but then I go off and look at the GW models and they lack something for me. The infantry are too generic and lifelss and the dinos don’t quite do it for me. Not sure why. Something about the GW art style doesn’t always agree with me. However, thise lizardmen are clearly similar and look awesome. Very tempting, but I’ve too many minis to paint already and no current use for them.
As for Shadows Pear, I quite like those Chaors sculpts and they would go well with the minis I’ll be working on soon so thanks for ignoring everyone else and giving the box to me 🙂
Gimmi the Chaos guy’s please 🙂
Great show! The new Chaos minis are great
So cool to have new chaos sculpts ! They are my favorites. And who dosent love big giant spider machines?
Whole bunch of great stuff in this weekender. The Doom terrain, lizardmen and the Frostgrave mat are gorgeous. As for Shadowspear, its gotta be chaos. That spidery machine they have is rotten! Love it
That lizardman kickstarter is to die for…
Surprised Justin has never heard of a poachers pocket. Ever Barber jack I’ve owned had had one. There brilliant for holding alsots in
The faction i would take is the space marines. Although I’m not the biggest fan of Primus marines, these are good models and the librarian is fantastic.
hmm which to like well im working on a chaos force and they great the new ones
I was stopped at Frankfurt airport security – my laptop was glowing white hot on the heat sensor. I’d been using it just moments before, in the cafe. I went through the bodyscanner and forgot I had a pocket full of wires and microchips (I was returning from a weekend fixing some electronic displays for a pharmaceutical conference). My bag was confiscated because I’d left the wire snippers in the outer pocket.
As I joked with the woman on security, about being an idiot and explaining why I had loose electronic control gear in my pocket, and gave her my wire snippers to dispose of (I figured it would just be easier to replace them when I got home) and pointed out that, yes, it was my laptop bag that had set off the heat sensors, her face turned stony serious.
It turns out that a random swab test on my laptop keyboard had returned traces of explosive powder!
I was kept in a back room for two hours, while security called the consulate, my bank (to trace the purchase of the laptop over three years earlier) PC World in Hove (where I bought the laptop) Hewlett Packard (the manufacturer of the laptop) and then I tried to explain that the battery was a cheap chinese aftermarket knockoff. It wasn’t the battery that was the problem, it was the “explosive powder” on the keyboard. I was terrified, as armed guards where at this point, pointing their automatic rifles at me, while I expected a big burly guy in rubber gloves to walk in at any moment!
After being held for nearly two hours, they asked the cafe for a copy of receipt, as I’d had a cup of tea and a bun while waiting for security to open. After they got the receipt, they let me onto the next flight.
The moral of the story?
Don’t eat cinnamon buns before boarding a plane (it turns out cinnamon – and custard powder – often show up as explosive substances). And if you do insist on eating a sugary treat, don’t then smudge your sticky fingers all over any electrical items!
My (unasnwered) question to security was – knowing this, which kind of lunatic sells cinnamon buns just metres away from an airport security gate??!
If I had to call favorites I would say the chaos minis. They look really good and have been much needed.
Great show – as always!
Shadowspear – hmm – Cool new marines or cool looking chaos marines? It’s a tough call for me – I usually fall for the more evil choice, but, even with the older chaos marines, the amount of spikey bits and pointy bits and trinkets / skulls always annoyed me! My Fallen army were based on marines with just a few chaos bits added (or Khorne heads with chain axes). I think it’s going to be the less spikey, not-so-chaosy Marines for me.
Chaos! 🙂
Happy Weekend everyone
Good show guys. Vanguard looks nice.
And, Gerry is a fellow red. YNWA
Happy weekend!
Really like the Frostgrave mat but, i’m already getting one from a KS coming in a month or two…
For the THM KS, i got 2 of them at home and they are great and will be getting this one, for Frostgrave Ghost Archipelago and Star Wars of course!
Shadowspear: it’s been a long time since i was interested in BOTH factions in the box! I was going to get it but, backed out because of my unfinished Tau army… Maybe later then…
Thanks for the show!
Shadowspear and new Chaos marines looking very nice.
Shadowspear looks great for new players, for us old gamers it’s just space/chaos marines same old song. Great show, and great prize as always.
Some of the other chaos stuff which has been leaked looks great too
Much as I like the New Abbadon think Mine will be done as Alpha Legion. the infamous Kevin thinks I have a theme,. Raven Guard for Loyalist and Alpha Legion for Chaos, in both are behind the lines sneaky , to Quote Tony Curtis on the Persuaders, ‘sneaky is best’.
Actually I brought a nice set of Alpha Legion decals from Forge World when I met John and Justin at Forge World last year.
got to be the rangers with the cloaks, a really nice aesthetic difference that ive not seen on marines before.
I like the Primaris but I’ve been fighting the urge to do Word Bearers. Shadow Spear is making it REALLY hard!
The mold for the primaris captain is not very good. it has seem lines across flat parts all over and as some one who is not very good at fixing stuff like that it won’t look to good when painted.
Chaos looks great, but my Raven Guard need (even more) stealthy primaris reinforcements!
While the Vanguard Primaris will be very cool for my Shadowhawks [Raven Guard successor], the new Chaos has to be my pick.
Pure awesomeness, in all their spikey glory! Long awaited & much needed major update to the Heretic Astartes line. My Knyghtbreakers [Night Lords] are very, Very, VERY happy!
Blaster was here…
Belated happy Saturday!
I like the new stuff in the 40K box, but think I’m more interested in the spikey chaos. I likw the Primaris, but am now used to seeing them and the Chaos dudes really needed an upgrade!
Chaos looks cool.
Never before have so many rings been probed! Except maybe in alien abductions?
So cheeky, as usual.
I’m all about the Primaris Marines in this one. It’s a newer feel and aesthetic to astartes where the Chaos guys are still just chaos, albeit to a much higher standard visually.
Really like the infiltrators and lieutenant in shadow spear but not a fan of the chaos as it’s overdesigned to me. Also the eliminators look huge! The kneeling guy is same height as some of the standing guys what’s up?
Great show, all. And kudos to GW for a well-deserved update of the Chaos Marine line. However, my favorite are the Vanguard marines. They really embody the mobile tip-of-spear expeditionary force role I always imagined for the elite SM forces.
Chaos is back and they look fantastic.
Looking at the pugzlelock kickstarter I am tempted now to buy a 3D printer just for that
Happy last Weekend! Yeah late to the party. Even I take a holiday some time.
So late to the party but Friday night is painting night ahead of my first peroper 40k game in a while (been too busy with Kill Team).
Have to say I am an Imperial fanboy through and through but for Shadowspear it has to be the chaos models eeking out as best of the box. They are gribbly. They are menacing. They are everything chaos should be. Can’t wait to shoot at them….or turn to the dark forces myself…
Probably the Chaos Space Marines. They look a lot more dynamic and happening. Although I find all the chaos bling silly rather than menacing. Vain buggers.
