VLOG: D&D Display Dungeon Part #6 | Extra Cavern Height & Tentacles Of Doom #DungeonBuild
October 21, 2020 by lloyd
Warren continues his epic D&D Display Dungeon Build VLOG and in this update shows a cool way of adding extra height to the Archon Studio Dungeons & Lasers plastic kits.
This allows them to create dungeon caverns and how he's adding some really cool narrative to the D&D diorama using ropes and tentacles of doom!
Let us know in the comments what you think of the Dungeons & Dragons diorama so far, is this ticking your dungeon delving boxes?

it’ll look fabulous painter warren.
@warzan if you are keen to give the dungeon a greater sense of depth and make it seem interconnected to other sections, the bottom floor back walls behind the spiral staircase (at 17min 14 seconds in the video) have archways set into them. would it be worth considering carving out the plastic wall under the arch and setting in behind it a picture or printout to make it look like there is an arched hallway heading down away from the central staircase? Sort of a forced perspective thing. Example pic for the type of thing I mean (but obviously colour matched to your terrain…)

Re blending the walls with the roof I wouldn’t be overly concerned. if you decide on your preferred paint scheme for the walls and mix a similar paint colour into the mod podge mix for the foam you will probably land close enough that nobody will notice. Unless the hewen stone was painted after the fact it would end up being a different colour regardless. Plus it’s not going to be the focal point of the display. As an alternative, using an airbrush or similar and painting on dark patches onto the roof to resemble smoke and soot stains from generations of torches might make it contrast intentionally?
Hope you are having as much fun prepping this as we are watching 🙂
In the cavern at the bottom right you could print out a picture of a big cave and stick it to the back wall. Go for a sort of Trompe-l’œil effect.
Maybe 3D print a tentacle reaching up out of the well.
continues to look awesome and it will be a hell of an achievement when complete
Warren, the dungeon is looking great! The foam is really working in expanding the height and giving you the ability to shape the dungeon.
Couple of fun suggestions:
– In the graveyard you can now carve out a few open graves. You’ll have to line them up to the walls below so you don’t have an odd ceiling in the dungeon. It still keeps the area open and places to put mini’s.
– Put a wood dowel inside the caverns support structure to firm up the diorama.

Ten tickles.
Yes I’m sure they’ll reinstate the downvote button for this
ffs lol
Why do paladins wear chainmail?
Because it’s holey armor.
How does the paladin protect against the heat of a Fire bolt?
He turns up his AC!
Looking great!
Just getting better and better. I think your technique for the ceilings is working wonderfully. I like the idea of details and minis not glued down in order to change up the narrative from time to time.
