High Marshal Helbrecht by fleboy

We start off this week with some impressive painting for Warhammer 40,000. Here we have fleboy's work on a very, very cool High Marshal Helbrecht.

High Marshal Helbrecht #1 by fleboy

I am a massive fan of the utterly "40K-ness" of the Black Templars and I like that their miniatures really hone in on that idea of Sci-Fantasy in Warhammer 40,000. To that end, it was awesome to see the work here on the High Marshal Helbrecht figure with all of those details brought right to the fore.

High Marshal Helbrecht #2 by fleboy

The miniature itself is as much a diorama as it is a miniature to use in wargaming and I think that the look is spot on. It gets all of those core Warhammer 40,000 vibes down with plenty of the grimdark on show PLUS some over that over-the-top action movie pop. I do really like "grim" but I think this works just as well.

I like the work on the additional miniatures in the piece too including his two retainers and the base itself. The lighter/colder dirt colour works really nicely against the black and "hot" gold of the armour. I think this is a really awesome paint job, especially once you get a look at things like the dirt and grime on the cloak and such. Great work.

Bot War by sundancer

Next up, we're looking at a project that has been long in finishing. sundancer finally got their hands on their Bot War miniatures and has been putting paint onto these awesome robot warriors. The progress has been fun to follow and I like how it features so many fun, 80s/90s style primary colours.

Both the good guys and the bad guys have come together really nicely and I like that the colours just work. The Speed Paints have done an exceptionally good job here as a tool to bring out the light and dark portions of the miniatures. sundancer has really used them well.

Bot War #2 by sundancer

The miniatures have now all been painted up and look ready for action. I really like the finish on the bases, rimming them in blue and red. It makes them immediately pop on the tabletop. The black basing is also pretty good for now as it will give things a neutral finish.

Bot War #3 by sundancer

I absolutely love the glowing red sword of the big bad guy above and that darker green has come out really nice indeed. Now we just need to see sundancer setting up to play against a willing victim.

Horus Heresy - Sons Of Horus by brushstroke

Finally, we return to Warhammer but from back in the annals of history. The impressively talented brushstroke has been working on more miniatures from The Horus Heresy and the Sons Of Horus. This is awesome.

Sons Of Horus #1 by brushstroke

The painting is clean and crips as per usual and I love how smooth the armour finish is. That teal blue/green works nicely against the black under armour and the notes of bronze and steel that you see from the weapons and extra armour pieces.

Sons Of Horus #2 by brushstroke

I love all of the work in the helmet itself too with those red glowing eyes peeking out from beneath that helmet. I love that the miniature has all of the vibes of a Traitor but one that has just turned over to the other side.

Sons Of Horus #3 by brushstroke

Additional notes here and there take the miniature to the next level. I really like the skull hidden beneath the rocky base that speaks to the brutality unfolding on the battlefield. You've also got the dirt and sand spreading up over the boots which ground the miniature in reality.
