.,…..it’s the XLBS Show! Happy Sunday Fellow CoGs! I’m really enjoying the Saturday Live Broadcasts. I’ve downloaded those one-page rules and I’m dig’n them. @brennon I once built a ‘Lan Party Computer’ into a toolbox. It was pretty cool. You rock on with your ‘Miniatures Travel Case’ toolbox. 🙂 Congratz to all the Golden Button recipients. Well Done! As far as non ‘Main Stream’ I like ‘Reign in Hell’ Pretty simple to get into and not a lot of rules. Ready to try the ‘One Page Rules’. I don’t know if ‘Marvel Crisis Protocol’ is considered ‘Main Stream’ or not.… Read more »
Happy Sunday,
another day to watch the Greatest Movie ever Made. Ever
Brings a tear of joy to my eye to see other people are still using toolboxes to transport miniatures
well … if it works it works, right ?
Joyeux Dimanche!
Ben mentioned he was playing in his local store… if it’s a GW store he won’t be able to play anything else. That’s always been part of GW’s value proposition, that the money you spend pays for the stores, staff etc. which gives you that convenience including the community and someone to play and teach you how to get started. (Not that I’ve been there for years except for paint).
Open Combat is a great game and Karl is one of the nicest blokes I’ve met in the industry. The expansion is definitely worth getting, and I’ll be ordering the Black Powder expansion as soon as it’s released. When Ben mentioned his local store, I wonder how many folk then looked up where it was lol I started playing Warhammer Fantasy from 1st Edition and the early versions of the game were much better, and 40K is the same. As it’s trundled along it’s become bloated and not very user friendly. This is probably because they’re building a game to… Read more »
Yes, yes, yes… it’s so good to be last again. Yesterday I had this nightmare that I was first! ?
Very enjoyable community projects. Well deserved accolades… ???
well done to al the golden button winners , well deserved
I’ve been looking at one hour wargames for a quick historical game maybe doing the battle of Dorking. Good excuse to look at periods I’ve not done before with some quick easy rules
Warren on holiday, Gerry on Pearl Jam hunting… who’s making content?! XD
all the rest
Happy Sunday. Three great golden buttons there. I’m excited to hear where @avernos adventure with Open Combat leads. Always on the lookout to add to my rules toolkit. I was looking into Thud & Blunder by Ministry Gentlemanly Warfare which is a generic fantasy skirmish rules. One page rules looks like the way to go for 40k but I’m having a hell of a job convincing my friends. I understand @brennon when he said he plays it more out of habit now. I have a similar Stanly toolbox which I’ve used as my bits box for years. It’s even had… Read more »
I never played a single game of Warhammer40k, so I never was part of any ‘mainstream’ to begin with. So, what are you talking about again?
One page rules has more than just 40k armies, there are a lot of Mantic armies as well like the Ratmen clans. They even do a Rebs list. Lots of narrative possibilities for established or unique universes. Would be a good rule set for the great crusade era as well
I’ve picked up some Tyranid models for Quarantine 37 and had a look at some 40k vids for that army. The number of combos, special rules, stragems, adaptive wotsits, whathaveyou is dizzying. As someone who plays very few games I’d have no chance to get a remote idea how to play them. The playthrough was a hoot and OPR looks a godsend.
Hi XLBSers.
The vermen tunnel rules would be great for starship troopers game’s.
40K is the elephant in the room because the rules are way heavy an too complex for quick game’s
Fab show guy’s.
Have a great holiday @warzan you will enjoy the hot tub when your fighting with the old house to ease the pains of the job.
I’ve laughed, I’ve cried (from laughing) and I’ve successfully avoided shitting myself and wanting to die (from laughing). Its been another great XLBS and I think that the mini agnostic and skirmishy small narrative games have gotten their due. I’m moved to check out Open Combat thanks to Gerry and I believe I have more Giftmas inspiration. There are 5 more months before this shit needs to be mailed in order to get there for filming.
Mainstream wargaming, is rather cyclic, by the 80s scifi wargaming was Star Fleet Battles and Historical Rules became increasingly not bloated but dense, with weird charts and tables, and average dice, which were not user friendly, and you needed hundreds of figures for an historical. Then 40K happened and Warhammer had a presence but 40K really launched it, and it may be difficult to think, but at the time, 40K was the not-mainstream innovative game, simple rules, low model count and a different scale. So today’s indie could well be the mainstream of tomorrow. Also, a game doesn’t have to… Read more »
I may have an argument with one of the onepage rules guy on stream…
I stand by what I said…whatever it was
Happy wednesday!
I think i’ll be checking “One Page Rules” for Grimdark, i was getting some Necrons ready to battle my friend but, he decided he had it with 40K’s bad rules! So i’ll need an alternative!
In the meantime, it’s Stargrave, Frostgrave and very lately: Moonstone with another friend of mine! I might get back into Star Wars Legion with the Shadow Syndicate faction coming out, it will add variety and who knows… might end up as other factions for “One Page Rules” 😉
Have a nice working vacay Warren!
See you guys on the next Weekender
