Video unavailable it says…. YouTube LIES!
YouTube budged! It’s live!
No vid.
Oh man another weekender and me only with latex undies and the Greatest movie ever made.
Fifth Element?
The Godfather? Saving Private Ryan? The Shawshank Redemption?
Movies that are actually good and aren’t schlocky exploitation films shot on a shoestring budget?
Getting Covid from licking Justin’s head woukd be the least of my worries
It’s working now.
so … justin was an adventurer just like you, until he took an arrow to the knee 😉
I AM COMMENTING SO SUNDANCER DOES NOT WIN AGAIN
IT WON’T STOP HIM!
But we must try!
Also you need to comment on YouTube… not here…. just saying…
Don’t worry it’s been said there too. We will stop your evil winning ways!
By all means do!
“It’s only gone and become the bleedin’ Weekend again!”
Square bases @warzan …. SQUARE! BASES!
We tried to stop you
we tried to tell you “do not rebase”
😉
*giggles*
You can make round bases and fit them inside a square of the same diameter.
You can’t make square bases and fit them in a round base of the same diameter.
So :p
(besides … GW needs an excuse for you to buy more stuff. If they had told you to use square bases in AoS they probably would have picked round bases for the new WFB)
I can see WFB when it’s revised eating into Sigmar sales.
If you want Romans vs Vikings just look at the Saxon conquest – the Angles and Jutes came from lands that are now Denmark, by vacating they left the vacuum that allowed the Danes to inhabit the borders they have roughly maintained for over a thousand years. Worth remembering that prior to Christianisation a lot of those Scandiwegian/north German tribes all had a similar pantheon of gods, in terms of language, culture, art, equipment they all cross pollinated each other so not a stretch to depict pagan Saxons with a more proto-viking aesthetic as Ben says vs the Romano-Britons
I tried to get my RPG group to play in the Old World when the c7 rules came out, but there was resistance for GW behaviour in years gone by… during covid I get them into Soulbound somehow…
But I miss the Old World… all that lovely chaos and plagues… or is that the real world now.
Anyway… I used to play 2nd edition decades ago, one of the first two which they are not using for material because it was too ‘RPG like’… but a good two player starter might tempt me…
It will probably be Empire vs Chaos… unless they sync with Total War Warhammer 3 in which case it may by Kislev.
The Old World.
Really looking forward to this. I think it will be great again.
I think even Warzan will get a new army if he sees those beautiful new GW sculpts, even if he’s not interested now. 😉
For a modular 6×4 to fit in a box that big thats not a bad look
Go Go power weekenders.
Those WotR lads, holeee manma!
The Old World update makes a point of there being a number of factions in the Empire. Also, i thought that humans and the Empire did have magic before the elves taught them the colour method.
they had hedge wizards, but they’re described as being herbalists and healers and it was Teclis and his two companions that taught the few of these accompanying Magnus the simplest of battle magics.
Of course an Empire army with only healers would be a very different proposition on the table top.

WAR Of the Wurzels.
I always saw the miniatures in rank and file style games as little more than really expensive hit point counters that you have to paint. So, you may have 100 minis, but you really only have 3 or 4 models that just happen to have some great-looking hit point counters.
I dunno. The stuff they’ve shown for Old World looks cool, but I don’t see a whole lot of people demanding a return to rank and file games. I see a lot of anger at GW for ENDING their rank and file game… but that seems to be more for the loss of the world and not the game. And if people were actually buying the models, they wouldn’t have a reason to end it.
And in all the years that WFB has been off the market, nothing has been able to step up and take it’s place – or even generate interest in that type of wargame in general. Kings of War still just has its small following, the Fantasy Flight Rune Wars (don’t remember if that was the exact name) failed completely, and the CMON Game of Thrones… well, it’s out there, but it hasn’t exactly generated a ton of interest. Historical games I’m not counting because that seems to be it’s own specific market.
So, like Warren said, GW are claiming it’s totally new, but really it’s the exact same… I don’t know if they’ve done enough market research on this.
but surely every model in every wargame is just a wound counter?
Hmmmm… This is also truth.
Maybe it’s just the way that a group of ten minis moving around individually vs a block of minis stuck in a formation that makes it still feel different to me.
I suppose it comes down to the type of warfare you prefer. For myself rank and file warfare is the pinnacle and it’s the loosely separated skirmishers that evaporate as soon as contacted in those games that only really act as moving terrain to protect your units moving into combat
@warzan whisky an vodka is a potion Firewater?
The cardboard beds are for sustainability, not to prevent nookie. So the Scandinavian high jumpers will be at it exactly as much as I imagine they are usually.
also happy World BDSM Day!
Crikey really? And I forgot to make a cake!
it is? Oh happy days…
where’s my whip..
that’s a fantastic set or terrain.
will work well for Dredd.
Its the Weekender. Unleash your Wild Hobby Urges! ??
Im unleashing Moonstone Madness again!
How dare you @brennon say that the Templars were bad people! ? I’ll forgive you this time, as you are our spiritual leader here in Kansas for “Burrows and Badgers”. ??
Loved the Acid House build sequence.
The quick pace edit and music choice was very enjoyable. ??
Onlyu improvement I can think of would have been the classic Benny Hill chase music and even more heavily sped up 😀
Boris Woloszyn deserves a bust of himself in at least 1/10 scale!
It would rest on my shelf in my hobby studio with honours.
I’m really do love all his sculpts. ????
a fun fab show guys.
I dò sometimes wonder how WFB was ever called a mass battle game. There isn’t that many figures involved
in the same way 12 element DBX games would be
Hi from the USA. Can’t come to UK Expo but Historicon is coming out of Covid and happening in November! Everyone please stay healthy!
@warzan Rome and the Scadinavian people definately traded but more importantly for you they probably clashed towards the end of the Western Empire C3-5th AD. There is a massive influx of roman gold to Scandinavia during the roman collapse in the West and it’s unlikely that it was a result of a massive imbalance of trade. The difficultly is that 1) Roman records for this period are broken due to destruction, civil collapse and being lost over time. 2)Romans were racists in that everyone to the north of then were ‘Barbarians’ and only the biggest ‘German’ tribes are named. People like Teutons, Sami, Suonie and Geats (proto-Vikings) aren’t always identified properly. The Vikings also traded/raided and worked for the Eastern Romans (Byzantines) famously becoming the Emperor’s bodyguards, the Varangians.
Protovikings clashed with the armies of Charlemagne well before they raided the UK.
On Warhammer the Old World, GW are taking the piss. Basically I suspect they are just keeping copyrights alive and stringing the community along to stop AoS being abandoned and stop games like Kings of War from becoming more successful. It doesn’t take this long to write a ruleset, especially if it’s a collection of old rules. Besides, GW have NEVER put that much thought into a ruleset before!
the cynic in me says everytime Mantic have a big announcement, like Summer Campaign, we get another trickle of Old World news
The cynic im you would be absolutely correct about the timing. I don’t think they ever forgave Ronnie for the amount of Warhammer players he picked up with the death of the Old World and the launch of KoW 2nd Ed. GW wasn’t going to chance Warpath being a success and broke its 3 year edition cycle on 40K from 6th-7th and it wasn’t just because 6th ed 40K was hot garbage!
I wondered if i was the only one thought along those lines! ??
I have already seen the greatest battle ever of a real person vs fictional Petty Wheatstraw vs “THE DEVIL”
Happy Weekender all. My reaction to Sludge was the same as warrens. It’s certainly unique.
Is weekend for example!
omg what a fantastic prize
V&V Minis look amazing, looking forward to the event coverage. Great show again!
Loving the Westphalia Monsters…and thanks for highlighting the Acid House terrain reprint, I missed the first KS and nearly missed this one ?
My vote for fictional vs real: Mutinous Tutinous vs Justin
Wow, that Acid House terrain pack looks very tempting… Fill a table in 30 minutes, yes!!
Warren is back, thank you. I love the humor you bring in this show. Many people are too serious about the hobby. You see the really fun part of it. I like it. We can’t be that serious playing with some miniatures on a board. I also like all the facts and semi-facts you bring. So I enjoyed the show very much.
About the Old World. I don’t know. It is made dead by GW, and there are a lot of other games who jumped into that gap. I think Old World can be great again. But I really like my Nighthaunt army on round bases. Some converter trays would be nice to bring out for all those people who rebased there miniatures. And like Soulblight and the new Swamporks, they could easily fit in the Old World I think. I also agree with Free (why is she not in the intro? She is that long in the show) it is nice to use miniatures crossfit with games.
That’s how I will use Necromunda miniatures. They scream to be used into the next Killteam edition. That terrain will also be very lovely.
Hi Warzan,
This boardgame about starting your own brewery or distillery must be the perfect game for you. 🙂
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/paversongames/distilled
Sooooo. If The Old World is coming back, anyone think GW might use it as an excuse to give a few of the Black Library characters lovely new plastic sculpts like they have done some of the more notable 40k characters? I know the timeframe they are going for means it’ll be a few hundred years before some of the more notable mortal heroes were even born, but c’mon – who could turn down a certain unsuccessful Slayer and his put-upon sidekick if they were reproduced in finely detailed plastic?
Weekender time again
Wont lie… pretty excited by a return to Warhammer.
God Boris is just an incredible sculptor, isn’t he? Achieving things digital sculptors can’t. They have a sense of life and movement to them, the guy’s an Artist
Those V&V Miniatures look excellent for some Saga forces.
Welcome back King Warren! Can’t wait to see what the Old World brings. The weekend starts now!
The Westfalia monsters look fantastic. I think the Cat Dragon is possibly my favourite of the two, but the stretch goal goblins are extremely characterful too.
I really shouldn’t be looking too much into V&V, although I would really like a game of SAGA again. Well, maybe I’ll get some Frostgrave or Rangers of Shadow Deep played with a friend in August.
It will be at least interesting if not downright entertaining to see The Old World finally coming out, for all the net hype, rage and comments if not for the game itself. I started miniature wargaming with WFB, but that was a long time ago and if I ever go back to mass wargames it’ll be in 15mm or 10mm scale and not with a GW ruleset.
Blaster magazine looks pretty awesome. I wished it was more readily available on the EU mainland. I’m not really into pdf’s for hobby material.
But I think I might figure a way to have some nice print outs of a binding service if that’s allowed….
I have quite a few of those games in my library.
Great Show.
I don’t have any good city terrain and that Acid House KS looks great.
Just debating on the cost. I have room for normal buildings, but this looks good since I don’t want to fill my storage area in sci-fi terrain.
Does anyone have this product and can they comment on the durability? Is it like or better than Corespace stock?
The Old World was a nice place
V&V Miniatures look good
Unmatched, match up: Former US President Donald Trump v’s Chef from South Park
Or Starsky & Hutch’s Huggy Bear v’s Former British Prime minister Margaret Thatcher
So much yes.
Vladimir Putin on a bear in the mix and you’ve got yourself a diverse set of characters! ?
I’d like to see an Unmatched duel between Connor MacLeod and Achilles, since both can only be liked in a specific way.
A lot of good stuff on this one.
That terrain though, I really like it.
Not sure where I’d use it. But want it..
WOW!!! The Wookie unbound indeed! Look at all that hair. 😮
it distracts from the unbound gut and ass 😉
Man, that terrain is really tempting. I’ve been good about not being on Kickstarter but this would be super handy now that i have a table i could play on…much to ponder
@warzan and @avernos gotta remember that during the late roman period there were raids by for example the Scots (gaels who would later settle in West Scotland and go on to form scotland)
Would also presume that early vikings would culturally be significantly different to late (for example the naming conventions around gods)
You could probably field an army of viking minis, mixing in Anglo saxon and even some ancient germania (wargames foundry) to get that “not quite as advanced vikings”, I would probably make chain mail a bit rare, so give it to bodyguards, lords etc. as alot of the viking culture overlaps with the saxon and germanic
Ultimately you have to remember Scandinavia is a ‘cradle of civilisations’ meaning it was easily over populated, which would cause migrations into Europe etc to re-settle elsewhere, which is probably why there is so much overlap with scandi, baltic, germania, saxon culture and religion.
So there you go, tribes already raiding roman Britain, scandi tribes on the move, real potential for aggressive wargame contact
That Sci fi terrain is excellent
These Westfalia sculpts are sculpts are so amazing that I would be too afraid to try and paint them !
oh no it is always worth splashing paint on them, the important thing is you enjoy the process and are happy with them
One day I’ll get to watch the weekender rather than listen to the Pod…. One day. I’m looking for to UK Games expo.
Great show guys, nice to have Warren back on the screen again.
I’ve started looking at the V&V Miniatures range as a source for some minis for Five Leagues as they have the right ‘feel’ to them and the level of detail is outstanding. Thank you for bringing them to my attention. It’s this kind of segment that sets the Weekender apart from so many other ‘hobby’ shows.
Keep up the good work!
The V&V Miniatures look terrific.
^Those V&V minis are totally lovely
Great show as always. Can’t wait to play some Warhammer old world. Tomb Kings!
As to what the proto-vikings were doing, check out the massacre at Sandby borg: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandby_borg
Hello, folks!
Fun having Warzan back on the show. I am really looking forward to playing Overdrive as, like Gerry, I already have a lot of Mantic’s big Dreadball players.
I don’t think I’ll go back to the Old World unless it’s a new Mordhiem style game. There are better fantasy and historical mass battle games on the market.
Yeah nah on old world wfb ….Kings of War has filled that patch for myself onwards and upwards i say . Oh and Sludge looks very interesting wonder if my Death Korps of Krieg could fit that thematic along with the new plastic shiney ?
The vikings may well have run into Charlemagne’s armies by the time they raided Lindisfarne. Charlemagne was conquering Saxony at that time, which was well close to the Danish territories. I’m not an expert there though…
I think I’m with Warzan on the whole turnips vs. Old World matter. The Old World sounds tempting, but the dark aesthetic of Sludge and Turnip28 even more so for me. I might convert an unfinished Imperial Guard army, which has some cavalry lizards in it. I bought the digital edition of Blaster 3 right away and the rules for Sludge look very promising! They have a very interesting mechanic with gore building up on the battlefield, making units more prone to failing nerve tests. Haven’t finished reading it yet, however.
That said: I will keep spying on the Old World from the corner of my eyes. Just because the Old World had such a well-developed history and setting in general. That said, much of that history takes place after the new setting, so let’s see how that turns out.
Anyway, for now: turnips, sludge and gore!
Square bases!!!!!! finally the correct shape!
All i know is it’s hip to be square ⏹
queue the music
Regarding the Old World, I’ll happily take the miniatures back. The rules… highly unlikely.
Sludge Wars look cute!
Poles hate templars too Ben @brennon!
The Old World is coming back!
Glad to see support for Oldhammer. Still need to play in Marienburg as a Ratcatcher with small vicious dog!
Speaking of Oldhammer, issue 2 of Hero Hammer is available now:
https://herohammer-fanzine.com/#_fanzine
We need more Old World stuff!
I liked the Old World, but I can see that the Mortal Realms give more gaming opportunities
Mantic’s Overdrive looks good
Acid House makes nice terrain
The weekend starts now!
The Old World takes me back to my childhood 🙂
Blaster is interesting
I miss the weekender, but I hope the UK Games Expo 2021 will be just as much fun
