Hurray for the Weekender!
It’s back and it’s glorious!
All is right with the world once again.
So many good things have been on the site lately.
Agreed!
Nice to have this back and the Gloomspite stuff looks awesome!
@lloyd the rules for the Kroot kill team are in the January White Dwarf.
Class, I’d heard there was but couldn’t put my finger on where to get them 🙂
its amazing how much longer a week feels without a weekender. Im glad its back!
To be fair, it has been at least two weeks without one, so that’ll be why!
Goblin army name, Shroom Lords!
I’d call my goblin army the Illunimated Toadstooly Brethren of Dah Sky-Spida King
Nice to see the boys are back and continuing with a good show!!
Nice mug @warzan.
Topic for XLBS…… Why can’t I use XXX mini’s from XX game in YYY game. Does this annoy people, or does it give you a more…. “diverse” gaming experiance ??
you can, I allow you.
You can print that out and show it to anyone attempting to stop you 🙂
I was going to reply but I thought the answer was kinda obvious so I didn’t. Well I have now but you know what I mean
I do, I thought so also, but some people out there will always ask to see where it’s written in the rules.
Happy 2019, glad to see you guys again on the Weekender.
my wife and i watch the lord of the rings trilogy every christmas
Hooray! The Weekender! Love that terrain!
How about the Mushie Monsters for the Goblins?
Or The Shiitakers
That sir,is genius.
The only upshot to being off sick has been being able to get through the Extended LOTR Trilogy. Should probably hit up The Hobbit Extended Editions next…..
Hope you are on the mend now mate. Take care
oh yes yes – how i have missed the weekender – would call them ‘GloomDivers’ after back in the day i remember the goblin skydivers
Well it’s good to see the gang again. Happy 2019!!!
I have a Northern Irish Great Grandma and Grandpa however location in Australia precludes the BoW team using my special skills* on your team, sorry . Good Luck anyway
* These are probably skills you could do without.
you could be our cuddly mascot
Well the the Wallabies always put a toy wallaby on the side of the pitch when they play . You just need to find a stuffed Bearded Dragon to put on the side of the table
I would call them… “The Shroom Marauders”
17th!!
I agree with the sentiments that goblins are cool. I once made a grot army for 40k just because I could. It was quite expensive and only had about 650 points in it but it was so very funny, made some of my own rules for it and pointed up special characters like a mech who just loved explosives that was sitting on a UXB and would randomly detonate it because he was tinkering too much. had a war boss in some knockoff mini-mega armour with ridiculous weapons on it which might work, but then again, might not. after those characters there were killa-kans and artillery but then it was just death by 1000 cuts from the mob.
it was a lot of fun and very silly but super cool.
for a solo play game I really like the walking dead all out war, the prelude to Woodbury expansion really allows you to tell a story during your games of how ‘you’ survive. the limit really is your own imagination and I like that.
I would call my gitz army ( not that I’ll ever buy one) The Terrible Teasmades
On solo games, +1 for Mr Babbage in The Men Who Would be Kings. It’s a very good set of solo rules; not just “attack the nearest unit”, there are nice touches like “pick off weaker units if possible” and suchlike.
I’ve not played it yet (100-odd minis to paint before I get the pleasure – and yes that’s this year’s big project) but I look at these systems with a programmer’s eye. I really appreciated the amount of detail squeezed into a simple instruction set.
Unrelated: Shoblin Gits or maybe a nod to the shroom theme: Champignons League
My goblin horde would be known as: Pokey sparks and the sqiugoths
Someday a Troll of a man will walk into your store, swinging a huge baseball bat grunting “I’m looking for @warzan…. I want to DING” *smashes table* “his DONG!” *smashes another table*
@avernos instantly falls in love, @dracs drops dead scared to hell, @dignity and @johnlyons make a run for it while @brennon watches it all on stream. @warzan enters the room, baffled and speechless. The Troll walks up to him, looks down and reaches into his pocket revealing a small bell and making it go “bing”.
Troll leaves office through the hole in the wall @dignity and @johnlyons left on their escape. @lloyd come from the cutting room shouting “keep it down I need to wo…..”
Good morning everyone, now I will watch the video. Thank you.
That Intro…. one time there will be a man the size of a troll entering the shop with a baseball bat in his hand.
“I’m looking for @warzan I want to DING” *smashes a table* “his DONG” *smashes another table.
@avernos instantly falls in love, @dracs drops dead with a heart attack while @dignity and @johnlyons make a run for it. @brennon watches it all live on stream while the Troll walks up to @warzan looks down on him an reaches into his pocket pulling out a little bell and make it go “ding”.
The Troll then leaves through the hole in the wall @dignity and @johnlyons left on their escape while @lloyd comes into the room yelling “keep it down will ya, I’m trying to wo….” @warzan goes *meep*
Anyhow, back to the video 😉
huzzah we got to see it now
Both versions…. let’s have a poll which one is better 😉
I like this one, I think the Warren going “meep” wins it. Like Beaker from the Muppets
Is this thing on?
Edit: it is. strange.
probably an issue your end, have you tried turning it off…and just leaving it off 😉
No, my last comment got an “awaiting moderation” notice :S (See techforum). The comment system doesn’t like multiple mentions of users it seems.
If you don’t already know, there’s Kroot Kill Team rules in this month’s White Dwarf. I’m glad to see the gobbos getting some treatment for AoS. Greenskins were a faction I always liked in Warhammer but never collected. I quite fancy AoS but haven’t tried it yet, maybe this will give me that push.
If I were to get into the Gloomspite Gitz my army would be called Anghor’s Knee Whackers.
Wow! What a way to start 2019. Those goblins look blooming awesome, and didn’t think anything could top that……but that terrain. I doff my cap to the wyrd team for that.
Terrain is the “third army” on the table top and manufacturers seem to be realising it’s an integral part to creating the “feel” of their worlds.
PS: my goblin army would be named Centri-fungal force. I too love a spinning fanatic.
The Warcraft movie was bad…..it was like a dodgy 80s sword and sorcery film with slightly better effects…..it was utter drivel and I wasted two hours of my life…and this made me want to get a lobotomy in the hope of removing its existence from my brain…
Excellent weekender Happy New Year
bout ye son
Wow! Lloyd is on a weekender? Did that happen at all in 2018? I’m a little concerned about Warren pounding his meat on the show. No one wants that.
If I had a Goblin army I’d probably just call it “my goblin army”. I don’t tend to play wargames in a particularly narrative way.
Great show, happy that you are back! Been tinkering with a solo-mode for Kill Team, starting easy with simple A.I and gradually working my way up from there.
A goblin army name: “Looney Moons” or maybe “Shroomy Goons”, with cartoonesque features from a certain franchise.
Great to have you all back. My goblins would of course be Iron Dragons Clan, what else? Thank for the show and Happy New Years!
Would love to try build a Gloomspite clan but it would mean owning two hoard armies
welcome back guys!!!!… my army would be called spikebang kings
happy weekender, i missed the show. i hope 2019 brings in more fun in our beloved hobby..
finally someone spoke about solo gaming, this is my reality, and it has been for the past two years. it became more difficult after i had my second child. my brain became more default to thinking about every game on how i can play it solo. i search and pick up up games that i can play solo, sometimes i customize rules to make the game more out of my control or predictable. so far it
s been a great way to always play, plus the other aspects of the hobby offer more ways to get involved. however, the only games i couldnt figure out how to play solo are the role playing ones.Welcome back folks,
Great looking buildings from Wyrd there, I want some
What a show and what a way to start the New Year. Great to see the “A-Team” back at the table, really fantastic show and a big thank you for the best 58:36 of painting companionship I had today. Can’t wait for tomorrow!!!
The new Gloomspite Gitz look great. I’m tempted to start them as an army
Worrah terrain. Love the show and the Gitz.
My Goblin army name the “Marshland fireflys”
Everyone loves a fanatic……
So with OTT and the visitor’s centre up and running now it seems space is at a premium. I really like the effort the team is putting into using its limited space to store as much as it does. Keep the good ideas coming as I am sure there are other community members looking to optimise their limited hobby spaces too.
I have missed the weekender so much… I know I don’t post in the forums or even comment all that much, but I seriously am on the site everyday reading the articles and watching the vlogs… really missed the weekend shows. Happy New Year!
the goblin army name would be squigum’s revenge. I thought the Warcraft movie was great. I have to go my tablets and white coat have arrived.
XD
I’d name my goblin army after my old goblin bloodbowl team; Gitzkrieg!
As to solo play games I occasionally play the Walking dead solo. I can run a campaign in it, where I can pick up, or leave it whenever I want means I won’t burn myself our with it.
My goblins would be The Bad Moons A Rising. Sorry Jerry but on my first glance I thought Justin was growing some hair again!
I don’t think he can 😉
Happy Weekender!! Well, this competition is an easy one for me, as I am building a goblin army and they’ll be called ‘THE WEE SHITZ’
I missed the weekender. My weekends off work weren’t as bright without you guys.
I know I’m not exactly the most forgiving of GW at the best of times, and fully recognise my bias, but, by God, the names just get worse.
The Wyrdscapes terrain is just lovely though. If I sell a kidney I might be able to think about getting some!
the key I found is not to sell more than one kidney at a time. Otherwise they’re likely to ask where you got them.
I am not into Age of Sigmar yet, but with those new, or better, revisited Goblins I´m really tempted. What a difference to the very old figurines!
My first WHFB box was the starter box with Elves and Goblins, cardboard terrain and cardboard heroes, chariot and more. That was from 1992. I bought more individual models afterwards, fanatics, command teams etc. They were and are really good, but whoa the new ones blow me away.
Just do what I do any play Kings of war with them
My Goblins would be called the “Midnight Munchers”.
After consuming copious amounts of shrooms and shroom beer they pour out of their tunnels in search of food and Bugmans xxxx. And boy do squigs with a case of the munchies need a lot of snacks.
That is a good excuse to refight the old scenario from way back in the day where Goblins attack the Bugmans brewery.
The Malifaux terrain looks just stunning.
a fabulous start to the year guys the scenery buildings are looking brilliant and they would work in many tables like labyrinth I think.
I think I would make a squig focused army and call them The Beasts of War
Love to see you again,
I’ve missed you, lol.
we missed you too. Warren cried, but I was a brave soldier
Good to have you back.
I love the look of that Malifaux terrain.
My goblin horde would be called Gobsplatta’s Fun Guys, and they woyld be paainted as clowns and other members of a travelling circus
Welcome back “Weekender” we missed you, and of course you guy
s. Loving the new buildings from Wyrd Miniatures, going with the way you guys mixed and matched with them, theres no limit to what you can do with them. As for using them to make dioramas, gets my vote and i can see lots of them popping up.Goblin name, not an easy one to do, but ill give it a go……………….The Crooked Tooth Knee Nibblers, lead by One Tooth Knee Sucker.
Happy New Year!
Great to see Wyrd doing something like this, large and solid buildings you can really get your teeth into. (or is that coming from the Neverborn side of me). Especially with Feb looming around the corner. Our club is about to start. the Magnificent Seven campaign. (seven factions, each individual factions Master can only be played by one player (as we know there can be only one). Six games to be played, each against a different foe/faction. Six games centered around “Turf War’s” The seventh game is to find out who becomes top dog.
The night is dark and full of fear,
The Night Goblins are back; at last, they are here.
Raise the war banner, bang the drum.
May Gork and Mork have all the fun.
Bring forth the hero’s, Squigs and Trolls.
Let Farquarts Masses show their alls.
My goblin clan would be run by Warlord Shroomnads Gibberjobber. The Shroomnad clan. Excited here about brushing off the old goblin army. Great show as always.
I want to win the lottery so I can move to Ireland and join one of these teams.
Glad to have you guys back in the new year!
That’s some awesome terrain
I would probably call my gits Toxic shroom gitz with all the fungi and fungi beer they consume 🙂
Even though I was always a Dwarf player there was always something delightfully great about the gobbos with all the merry chaos they were spreading 🙂
A full table of the Wyrd stuff is going to look brilliant.
Have to hand it to GW, they have done a great job of updating a classic range. I’m glad that they haven’t really changed the concepts too much, but brought them up tyo modern standards and expanded out as bit like with the truffle sniffing squigs. If I were to get into AoS I would very tempted to go goblin.
Gobbo name: Garry and his Gang of gloomy goblin gitz
Happy New year. Great show. The Terrain does look awesome. Bolt Action Team Ireland sounds like a cool idea and hope it takes off.
Having a massive collection of old school night goblins, I am really excited for the Gloomspite gitz. The character models especially are something I would love to use to enhance my old fantasy armies as I felt the old fantasy hero miniatures were no where near epic enough.
Sadly funds are incredibly low so I’ll just have to hope I win myself the competition. lol.
On the subject I think my gang will be lead by the infamous Skritsnak. Skritsnak’s Skulkin’ Gitmob sounds suitable gobliny (if that’s a word, lol)
And Weekender is back, yay!
Greenskins and company are so, so , so awesome!!! No brainer pick in destruction modelwise!
And back to picking jaw from the flor after those terrains. WANT ONE! Or hundred… 😉
I’d name my goblin army the Badland Buccaneers in honor of my husband’s Blood Bowl team.
When playing solo I’m much more inclined to start up a computer game than opening up a board game box. The current favorite being Stellaris.
If I do have to choose a board game to take with me to a deserted island it would probably be Kingdom Death. I would finally have time to explore all of its brilliant insanity.
The GW releases are becoming more impressive with each passing month. So much so that I’m even tempted to give their games a try again. I used to play an Orcs and Goblins army in the old Warhammer Fantasy. I did not have a name for the army as a whole, but I did have some interesting characters, most notably Wotzit the Squirely Snotling, based on one of the ancient Chaos Familiar miniatures.
I would call my grot army mushroom lovers.
My gobbos are the ‘shroom-Loons
I like how GW has merged some factions into a bigger one, letting them flavour eachother. I hope that they do something similar to the grots formerly known as gnoblars.
I’ve always wanted to do a rusted Goblin army. Grishnar, the Rusted Knight, is what made me want to do this. Picture an army of goblins all decked out in stolen, rusted, heavy army that try their best to be honorable but in a warped and odd manner (because goblins obviously). They are allowed to pretty much do anything they want if it helps them complete a knightly outfit. I.E. they steal and rob in order to get armor. They might murder someone for a sword. Anything in order to get the look of a knight is allowed. I’d call them the chivalrous gits.
I had the MOST ridiculous idea for my Gloomspite army: paint everything like a Mario character. Paint the grots like shy guys, the cave squigs like goombas, the mangler squigs like chain chomps or yoshis, paint the Forgeworld colossal squig like frikkin Bowser, and paint Skragrot like Kamek. So obviously, my army will have to be called “Da ‘Shroom Kingdum”!
Great first show of the year!
Happy New Years Weekenders!
Yes, the new Black Fortress expansion monster is incredible! Love the new goblins, even more, the new trolls. The new terrain for Wyrd lools awesome too, can’t wait to see some of it painted.
For the goblin prize, i’ll also be original and use a mushroom pun for my name: The Matsutake clan.
I picked up one of Wyrd’s terrain kits at gencon. The price initially seems kinda high, but I can almost guarantee the kit is a lot bigger than you’re probably imagining it. Very high detail and quality, I’d definitely recommend them if you like the look of them.
Re: Gitz, I think those sneaky snufflers are my spirit animal. Awesome looking range all around but I really love the squiggly beasts.
I’d have to call my goblin army – The Mouldy Spores
Mollog’s Mashin Biguns (Trogg list)
@lloyd The Kroot have now been put into this months White Dwarf. They look interesting enough! 😀
On the topic of solo wargaming and completing campaigns. Two Hour Wargames fits that niche pretty well. http://www.twohourwargames.com/ In particular the NUTS rule book has campaigns for late war WWII.
My Goblin Gang wold be called
Podriks Cutthroat Possy
(The madcap masters)
Great first weekender of 2019! I must say, not meaning yo be unkind to Justin and Sam, but that line up is the BEST!!! You should definitely get the BIG guns of the team out more often!!!
The gloomspite gitz look incredible!! Will definitely have to pick some of those kits up just to paint!
The WyrdScapes also look AMAZING!! Dave Taylor was painting one set on the Game Trade Media painting happy lil minis show a few weeks/months ago. Looked even better with a lick of paint!
Goblin Army name;
So everyone’s heard of the Badmoons but what about the Benevolentsuns.
Instead of living in caves eating mushrooms all night. The Benevolentsuns live out in open field underneath their God. They eat thoughts humans that live everywhere, in those pens they call cities. Their most devout, they’re blind Prophets raise their arms and scream to the heavens Praise the Sun!
Really disappointing that GW are discontinuing the Kill Team starter. Especially as I hadn’t got round to buying it yet!
Love the new goblin models – most of them anyway.
If I had an army of them, they’d be the followers of a very wise goblin shaman type character who knows a lot and they’d go around looting stuff.
Hence their name, Da Noze Pickas!
Nice terrain.Looks nice and solid, not sure if i would use the inside but if one wall had magnets that might work.
The locking lugs on the walls for building them would probably be enough without needing to magnetise them. But the largest floor with the balcony all the way round has no way of taking it off without a ton of magnetisation
The new gobbos really look amazing. Hopefully they play as great as they look. I loved the randomness and chaos of the gobbos of old and I hope that GW bring that into AOS.
Late to the party and finally able to get to the weekender.
@sundancer LOL. I am forever changed in how I will think of Carol of the Bells. For that I will respond with a video and things to think.
@dracs Cover your eyes, it’s Japanese!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16gXUCJE4xA
Apparently it takes some time, study at great length and some fancy duds to achieve the impressive size of this dong that goes off once a year. The catch is that it gets dinged 108 times over the course of the night…. This is the last time these men were heard from again.
The first edition of white dwarf I ever bought had an article about night goblins in and since then I’ve loved them. I’m glad this edition hasn’t altered them too much.
Ive always fancied doing a goblin dragon hunting party just simply called the fodder
Belated Happy Weekend! Fantastic show as ever, looking forward to all the new content in the new year. That Wyrd Terrain looks awesome!
On LOTR I think it’s tricky, Tolkien portrays the magic as very powerful, but not showy (i.e. the ring providing almost immortal life, keeping an entire forest a hidden and protected kingdom, locking away powerful beings like the Balrog). But no one throws a fireball, I have to say I do like the more showy-magic of the WoW film (which was, not great, but still it’s more of the kind of thing I like, so I wanted it to succeed so we could see better versions of it!). But I wouldn’t say the magic as portrayed in LOTR was wrong with regards to the source, or not powerful, but its not so showy.
