Happy Sunday everyone!
Happy Sunday Backstagers!
A Space Themed XLBS is just what the doctor ordered.
Speaking of Space Fleets, I actually found a bag yesterday with some models from the 90s games, Space Fleet.
Rise of Skywalker… After the big Ewok party in Return of the Jedi, Luke gets drunk and gets very affectionate with a bunch of Ewoks – so loads of Ewok Jedi Knights are on the Forest Moon of Endor. They sense Ray on Endor and fly down to see her and then go on to dominate the Christmas toy market as kids go mad for Ewok Jedi. Think I’ll avoid the movie now.
You should have mentioned the central role played by Jar Jar in teaching the Ewoks how to dance in a then contemporary style!
Force sensitive ewoks, I was handed one as one shot with the West End system long ago but this makes perfect sense as to how it happened.
Happy Sunday!
Happy Sunday everyone. Building out the Falklands campaign in the “Naval Command” system, and getting ready for some British vs. French Darkstar action later this afternoon with @damon . 😀
Happy Sunday all! Looking forward to this one!
Great Show Guys.
Did some measuring and the moon is about 90mm Across while the blip thing is only 5mm. So the blip is 1/18th the diameter of the moon, bit of Google searching and the moon is 3,474km in diameter, divide that by 18 and we get 193km. There is absolutely no way we here on Earth have a 190+ Kilometer Space Craft and keep in kind that since it’s behind the moon it’s even bigger than that.
@warzan is right about keeping secrets. Bletchley Park (where they cracked Enigma in WWII) was kept secret for decades, The Firs (basically the heart of Allied Commando weapon development and the heart of their organisation) was also kept secret in fact almost all the WWII British weapons/tactics development centres were kept secret until the State revealed them.
I hate to do this because you get a lot of joy out of it @warzan but the video is a fake created by a guy called Hollywood Scotty on Youtube. From the description “Everything was created using After Effects, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and FL Studio. If you’d like to use this or any of my videos for any purpose, please contact me first at [email protected] or on twitter at twitter.com/HWoodScotty”

@dignity is right about the gravity thing. When you orbit a planet at any point you’re basically just falling towards the planet and aiming to miss. As an object increases the effects of gravity multiply exponentially on every small nut, bolt and seal and a bolt can only handle so much before it just shears off.
The reason we came so far so quickly is very interesting.
The first is that Technology hits bottlenecks.
In the late 19th early 20th century we had the light bulb, the refrigerator, the air conditioner, the electric heater and most of the other modern things. What the issue was that we had hit a giant bottleneck called “Getting Power to the Home”. We didn’t so much take a giant leap from then to now but rather we put the last piece of the puzzle in place that allowed what we had to be marketed, designed for and sold to the private sector. Rather than inventing a Refrigerator we just had to make it smaller, cheaper and easier to produce and even then it took decades.
I know far more about guns of the period than houses so I’ll use that. Before 1886 you had a giant bottleneck called “Black Powder”, Bolt Action Magazine Rifles existed, Machine Guns like the Gardner and Gatling existed but their progress was limited by their use of Black Powder Ammunition. By 1900 we had all the Rifles and Machine Guns that saw action in WWI and the Machine Gun could finally rise to prominence. It wasn’t that Technology made a giant leap of innovation it’s that the last piece of the puzzle was put in.
When it comes to Space Development the Technology was not there lying dormant and all and to be envisioned, designed and created.
As ridiculously excited as I am for Star Wars to do the Old Republic I’m very skeptical that they are going to utterly ruin it. Those stories are a Giant Part of my Star Wars experience, Revan, Bastila, Atton, the Exile all of them are amazingly fleshed out characters that I hope they treat carefully. The Old Republic is meant to be Grimdark, entire planets are nuked from Orbit by the Sith, the Sith are truly evil, the Sith routinely win and I do not want any of that to be sacrificed for the sake of making it more child friendly.
Star Wars is still good classic pulp scifi and as Gerry has said it’s laser swords and pew pew guns in the grand tradition of the Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers film serials of the 30’s and 40’s. Darth Vader is just a reimagined Killer Kane isn’t he?
For anyone with an interest in learning to 3D Model please send me a PM. So far three people have expressed some interest in taking part in some basic tutorials/ a basic tutorial please let me know. All the software is free, the tutorials are free, I want nothing in return but to help the community learn to 3D Model and with 3D Printing on our horizon I think it’s going to be invaluable knowledge for us in the hobby.
I am incredibly flexible so don’t worry about your timezone or availability, if you can only do it at 2am my time then we’ll do it at 2am my time. Any skill level from know nothing to just need to fine tune please get in contact with me.

Say no more @warzan I was halfway through making the bases when you said my name, so glad we’re on the same wavelength. If you give me an email or place to upload them I’ll send you the .stl files in a few hours. Happy Easter.

FOr those interested in how the bases turned out
Gerry, This is canon about Sith Ghosts

Also one of the rumors is Rey is a clone from Lukes Hand from Bespin created by Sheev Palpatine.
Before everyone gets happy here is the quote from KK about the old republic.
Speaking with MTV News’ Josh Horowitz at Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm head honcho Kathleen Kennedy cut straight to the point like a lightsaber through butter when asked if they were developing any projects around Knights of the Old Republic.
“You know, we talk about that all the time,” Kennedy said. “Yes, we are developing something to look at.”
also, this is rumored An Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series is reportedly being developed for the Disney Plus streaming service.
Here is this panel for The Mandalorian Panel

and you can search YouTube for the footage that they cut the feed.

The looking at the old republic might just be the Rule of Two similar to the legends novel series Star Wars: Darth Bane
Here is the info about the Rogue One show
On November 8, 2018, it was announced that a live-action prequel series was officially in development and set to go on Disney’s upcoming streaming service, Disney+. The series will take place before the events in Rogue One and will focus on Cassain Andor with Diego Luna to reprise the role.
Great show.
For the Giant Skeleton. You probably have the Myth skeleton boss. The one where four skeleton’s are carrying a big one.
https://mellis1644.wordpress.com/2015/10/26/myth-undead-the-big-guys/
or from Green Horde zombie dragon
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cmon/zombicide-green-horde/posts/2010203
Will have a look.
The Skeleton boss is a bit campy, but I think would look awesome smashing through another army/force.
Zombicide Black Plague and Green Horde have several models that might interest you.
It may be mentioned further in the comments but Mierce miniatures do a number of Epic Giant Skeletons.. one in particular has a platform on his shoulders that carries skeleton bowmen.. they are pricey but well worth a look.. https://mierce-miniatures.com/index.php?act=pro&pre=mrm_dkl_jut_wht_mbs_802_000
It’s obviously too late for the show but the Grenadier range is sold by http://www.mirliton.it and I love it all
Cool, might be a place to get some skelly cav 🙂
Ben, I backed this on KS for Norse
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/800873007/svilland-a-norse-mythology-themed-campaign-setting
Or alternatively go for a dedicated system like Fate of the Norns: Ragnarok?
Read “The Broken Sword” by Poul Anderson. It is essentially Saga Age of Magic the Novel. Set in Dark Ages Britain but featuring battles between elves, dwarves, trolls, frost giants…
On the basing aegument
#1 I have too much stuff to paint to rebase anything
#2 As I play King’s of War and 8th edition whfb I still need to movement tray certain models so what I do is assemble fantasy figures on round bases of the appropriate size. Sally 4th do round 20mm mdf bases. This is what I’d use for your elf army.
For slot filling in bases I use acrylic filler (decorators calk) as it’s insanely cheap.
From my space ship orbiting from behind the moon, Happy Sunday! (Really, I’m sitting in a house in Pennsylvania but don’t tell Warren. Let him think this is from a spaceship 🙂
Morning all. Ah the new Sunday tradition. Watching Ben lose the will to live. How long can he last. Great xlbs as always
he knew the risks
It is my greatest struggle…
You should sit there and read a book and see if they notice
Happy Easter everyone.
I remember when Fantasy Flight Games declared that the Warhammer Fantasy RolePlay 3rd edition product range was ‘complete’. It was obviously newspeak for ‘abandoned’. Episode IX feels like that.
although in the case of WFRP 3rd the world let out a sigh of relief that no more of that shite would be vomited forth ^^
Quite.
Happy (Easter) Sunday all
As @warzan said, the music from Star Wars just takes me back to my younger years and the inner kid in me gets all excited, very much looking forward to December. It was my birthday last friday when the trailer was released, wife wasn’t impressed when I said “best birthday present ever!” 😀
Happy Sunday folks.
For the love of all that’s holy and your own sanity,3D print them with spaces for coins lads.
Had a comment typed out but the website glitches so had to reload the page and copy&paste ate the comment, now I can’t remember what I was going to say, so can only comment on what I watched after the reload. 😢
When did Justin cosplay as Gollum? Think we need pictures. 😛
What’s wrong with uniformity in fantasy armies? I agree for something like greenskins that they’re not going to have uniforms tailored for the army, but something like dwarves, elves or humans with a standing army are going to have uniforms; at most you might get slightly differing shades where they didn’t have much quality control so used slightly different dyes which have aged/weathered differently, but over all would look uniform. For undead it would depend on where they’ve been raised; to make an army the necromancer, lich, Vampire or whatever would probably go to an old battlefield and raise a mass grave, which means they’d have on the clothes the soldiers were wearing when they died (minus any boots that have been nicked by survivors), in which case it falls into the above where they might have been an army that wore a uniform. So overall, pretty much uniformity in a fantasy army would follow the same trend as a historics army – eg you wouldn’t paint your Celts uniformly, but you would do your Romans.
As for the bat stuff on GW minis, yeah it is a bit excessive; although I would dispute Lloyd’s claim that the definitively wouldn’t have died in that gear. Don’t know the fluff for AoS, but in WHFB which most of those minis were designed for, the focus of the Vampire Counts was mainly the Von Carsteins and Sylvania, and bat and skellie heraldry featured heavily in the livery of the living armies of Sylvania before the undead took over, so I think it’d be believable that the raised troops would carry stuff with bat themed decorations to some degree. I imagine similar arguments could be made for AoS with some places in AoS having a bat theme, dying out and then a necromancer or vampire moving in and raising the dead (or even them being from the Realm of Death and having those decorations because they directly worship the undead). I also find it odd that Lloyd is the one complaining about this stuff – could swear on a previous show he declared in fantasy anything goes because it’s fantasy. 🤔
Btw Lloyd, if you don’t want your Mortarch feel free to send it to me. I won’t give you anything for it, but you’re welcome to just send it to get rid of it. 😜
hey @lordofuzkulak
I think about a skelly army moving across a land and raising new troops as it goes. So they wouldn’t have armor of one particular faction/city etc.
For me it’s just become a personal preference to reduce uniformity across an army. Absolutely people can paint as they please but I like the idea of changing the shades of a colour scheme. Not everyone is going to end up with the same shade of blue or red. After all there clothing may not have been made at the same time, can be dirty or sun bleached etc.
Might have been worth mentioning that in the vid as it came across as you being angry about there generally being any uniformity in a fantasy army and specifically that there’s zero reasons for any skellie army to have any uniformity whatsoever and that it was impossible for any skeleton to have bat-themed wargear. When it comes to mass battle games, as I said, the spellcaster would be raising mass graves, not the odd body here and there (you’d have to be a rather pitiful necromancer to be doing that, not to mention that’d be impractical to amass an army in dribs and drabs); at most you’d have unit A looking different to unit B. Also there’s only so much variety that a company can put into a kit, so over smaller sized games you’re going to have repetition as default as something unavoidable unless you go to different manufacturers and mix them. And as for the bat stuff that ticked you off, as I said there was fluff reasons for it. Obviously fluffwise a Vampire operating out of Bretonnia wouldn’t have skellies with that theme, but it wouldn’t be practical or cost effective for GW to produce ten different skeleton kits to cover as many possibilities as they could (why do you think the only skeleton Orc and skaven minis were a single Dog’s of War unit afterall?). Now to be fair, they probably should have stuck with a generic skeleton kit, but iirc those skellies with the heavy bat theme came out after they discontinued bits ordering, so at that point it was no longer an option to bits order a few sprues of shields to theme your unit to a specific faction so that probably factored into the design process. But even then, at this point we’re getting into the realms of conversions at by now uniformity doesn’t matter as much as if you want to convert you probably won’t think twice about ordering a few boxes of a couple different units and kit bashing them with the skellies to get a hodge podge of looks.
When it comes to painting, it’s going to come down to the individual painter; not everyone has the time or energy to sit down and mix slightly different shades for each colour.
Thanks @warzan the box of smugness was indeed cut with the k40 and took about 45 minutes of cutting including the engrave and longer to put it together. I decided to try the k40 whisperer again after what you said. I didn’t give you an informed opinion of the software on last weeks comment as I fell out with it fairly quickly. ( didn’t know completely what I was doing at that point, despite using these in the past but that would be 20 years ago.)
Shame but completely understandable about your decision on the laser cutter. Most of the advice I give is to use a Fablab and someone else’s to start before even considering to take the plunge. There is also a very good reasons companies like 4ground would never consider these for long for production machines. I did have a slight hope the 3d printer revolution would also effect laser cutters in terms of software and usability and sadly this has not happened yet for budget machines or even some mid ranges machines.
OMG! life changing for me moving to the whisperer. So much faster than putting up with the utter crap software that crashes more often than not and ruins cuts due to having to rely on me remembering to include reference points so things line up. Still only used it for a quick thing and made a pendant (so I can mock a friend for being a brony) with raster and vector engravings and a vector cut without the hassle. This would have taken much longer than before.
I know it wasn’t your intention but that’s for inspiring me to try it again. My workflow on the laser cutter should be faster and cause much less cursing.
On a side note, the picture of @Squirrellord ‘s Smug face was worth the effort. Glad to see it is a most powerful artefact.
In keeping with today’s space theme …
Here is a quick peek at the Darkstar live game set to begin in about half an hour (1700 GMT, 21 April). If anyone is interested in spectating or participating, send me a PM and I’ll send the link to the web conference.
Hope to see some of you there, and Happy Sunday!

Meanwhile, to weigh in on today’s conspiracy … I must reveal that yes, that moon footage is real. It’s just from 500 years in the future. I’m not sure how it got slipped back in time like this, but the UK and Lloydoslavian Star Navies have been working on this research installation for some time now …

@warzan @justin — take a look at this KS. These guys are looking for people to help promote their 3D products. The company makes a product called Glooped! Glooped is a glue and a paint. The Paint already does the smoothing and the glue is made for PLA. Worth a look, may want to contact them https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1672378622/glooped
