Happy Weekend!
Happy Sunday or it would be, I’m not well 🙁
Sad I didn’t back Dropfleet Commander, but at the time I just wasn’t an option. That said I did back Twisted, and I’m so pleased that I did, it’s just looking better and better with every new element that they announce.
As it is a Saturday maybe I should just go back to bed!!!!!!!!
Get well soon mate
fanx
Look forward to tomorrow’s show. Cheers Lads
It’s the Weekend!!!
I need to clear the decks a bit in preparation for Dropfleet. Hoping to find something that indicates how the sprue parts fit together – expecting to make extensive use of my airbrush and hoping I can paint large part-assemblies separately before final assembly of each model.
The other (counterintuitive) tip about Stanley knives is… Keep replacing blades to keep them sharp.
Blunt blades mean you compensate with more force …
more force == less control…
less control -> accidents
Phr players are going to need to be rocking an airbrush more than the others i reckon 🙂
That dropfleet commander artwork looks amazing.
Patrice is damn good at this art malarkey haha
True. It’s amazing what a difference artwork can make to a miniatures game. You’d think that the mechanics and the miniatures (and the community) would really be all that mattered. But the artwork just makes it feel like something so much bigger, better and more important and inspiring. I love it.
Awesome stuff on Dropfleet… So looking forward to getting my pledge 🙂
Not really a sci-fi ship gamer – but those models are just WOW!l
These shows are making my weekend. I recently got back into painting miniatures and Beasts has really inspired me. Just need more money now to get into as much as possible.
You’ll have to include some of your work in the forums and show it off 🙂
The new Bolt Action starter set looks great! If preordered you get yet another box of infantry on top as well. Together with Konflikt 47 all my WW2 needs are covered it seems 😎
Dropfleet looks stunning but I’ll hold my breath till Halo comes out before I potentially give in..
I think that code’s just for existing Bolt Action folk. I have one and I’m getting right on it on pay day 🙂
Can’t wait, nearly here, but those bases sure look unstable.
Whew! Some changes have occurred from the beta it seems. I cant wait to get my set in my hands!
Great show, looking forward to getting my hands on all 4 DfC fleets
If you’re after historical with a bit of mythology thrown in, it’s also worth having a look at Of Gods and Mortals. Just started playing this and my gaming group and I are have immense fun with it.
I just saw that pop up from Osprey at my local store – looks fascinating. Are there any interesting mechanics you could point to that make it stand out from other games @yggdrasil
The game plays fairly fast and combat can be brutal; but one of the main elements that appeals is that you’re not bound by the army lists within the book.
The designer has provided the players with a method whereby they can create their own lists. So, depending on what particular pantheon of gods or mythology the player is interested in, they can build a list around that. For example, you could have Ganesha doing battle with Cthulhu.
There are straightforward campaign rules within the rulebook. You could play out a short campaign over a weekend for instance.
The game is very open to the players making it their own. There seems to be a great deal of possibilities there @brennon.
Thank you Beast of War and Hawk top notch!
PHR: the most predatory and beautiful ships
Shaltari: mess with your opponent’s plans (especially with that gravity cannon ship)
UCM: functional, versatile
Scourge: predatory and unsettling
As ever, Dave is a great guest in how he demonstrates the huge amount of thought and attention to detail put into the design of the minis, their individual pros and cons, how they would work with other vessels, and how the game balances in terms of points costs, accepting the strengths and liabilities of your chosen fleet (not worried as I am getting everything and plenty of it) and as he said, the meta. Throw a game to the crowd and someone will come up with tactics/strategies that may be so crazy that no-one in their right mind could ever have conceived them.
I suppose that’s where I come in 🙂
I thought I was eager for my dropfleet kickstarter, now I’m really hanging out for the battleship retail release :).
dropfleet looks stunning, of all the cool stuff out there this one is really tempting .
fast panda pizza truck is so cool , infinity tables are just unbelievably good.
dropfleet has been on my radar and Infinity is already in the bag.but twisted and the shadowcast have caught my eye coming out of left field.
the monkey king , awesome. big Alice in wonderland fan and the thought of running Alice and the monkey king is just to cool.
the shadowcast are the first thing in darkage that have made me want in.
looking forward to the gencon chat tomorrow.
Ahh Dropfleet, how much I am looking forward to recieving my big box of joy! Really impressed with the Battleships, hopefully I’ll find the pennies to get mine sooner rather than later!
Happy Weekend 🙂
This scatter terrain competition is a blast 🙂 so many skilled people in one place 🙂
Dropzone… beautiful miniatures! 🙂
Everything about Dropfleet Commander just looks amazing. I especially like the art. You really get a sense of scale and wonder – like some of the space films that have come out in the last few years.
The miniatures look stunning, and I’m really excited to get get more of the storyline.
Also, that Fast Panda truck looks cool, the Monkey King looks fantastic and the Shadow Caste look really good too.
Oh, and all those scatter terrain entries are brilliant.
Basically, excellent work all round!
It was pretty cool to see my terrain on the weekender this morning, thanks 🙂
The dropship models look fantastic, as ever great show.
Drop fleet for the win, gotta love the new words and battleships.
A very happy weekend everyone, love the terrain been shown , great show as always. So back to hobbying and painting my WW1 motorbike squad and tea is been cooked as i paint 🙂
Man that was a great way to start my birthday, I am so glad I was able to be a late backer for Dropfleet Commander. The minis are awesome and I’m really looking forward to trying the game. The Mobile Fast food truck is really cool, I can attest to the huge moral boost we got in Iraq when the container units for Subway, Pizza Hut and Burger King showed up and finally opened for business. I remember when the Pizza Hut finally opened our Batallion commander sent a patrol back to the Forward Operations Base and ordered 50 pizzas and trucked them back to our combat patrol base.
Already started clearing my painting desk for Dropfleet.
Oh WOW! The DropFleet ships are looking awesome. the Scourge ship look like some ancient Precambrian predators stalking their prey and ripping them apart up close. The UCM, Brutal, Functional, Efficient and about as subtle as a drop hammer. Shaltari, the thinking man’s fleet, use the proper tool for the proper job and their enemies will be reduced to debris. PHR High skill-gate multi-functional ships, and good grief, the Battleships, the second the words “Dark Matter Canon” were utered I started grinn ing
If you would use the fast panda truck in 40K, I think it has more of an Tau feel to it. It’s weird if the first antigravity vehicles of the imperium turns out to be a pizza truck. Tau however have to feed their troops and the auxiliary.
I could see the Tau making sure pizza got to the war front – it is for the greater good after all.
Seeing that fleet of PHR together is just amazing – they look like a pod of orcas who are on the hunt!
Oh yes, and dropfleet looks stunning. I have all four starter armies, just need people to play with.
And afaik the bus on stilts thing is most likely a investment money grab that will not deliver.
Which army are you going to paint first 😉
Nice one guys the new dropfleet ships look great.
I hope there will be some painting guides by the folks who did the Dropfleet models. Gorgeous stuff!
Could not be more psyched for Dropfleet. I shall watching the postman like a yap-happy pooch in search of my Kickstarter delivery.
All the scatter terrain entries are fascinating. While spoiled for choice by manufactured terrain, i’m blown away by the cheap, high-quality options one could have if you have the time and elbow grease to do it. Thanks to all who contribute those great entries! Loved the rocks made from tree bark.
Happy Sunday (wait, it’s wrong!), a bit late again this weekend thanks to work again! I’ll be watching the XLBS on monday…
Thanks again for the Gen Con coverage folks!
Can’t really get into another game at this moment (way too much already 😉 ) but, Dropfleet looks amazing.
On the scatter terrain front, some really nice projects, can’t wait to see the results on that.
I’m really looking for an immersive sci-fi game that combines fleet tactics with planetary combat, and I’m hoping this will be it. I’ve been waffling between this and the Firestorm Armada system.
GW’s Battlefleet Gothic is like playing checkers, and in any event, is no longer supported. Also, their models have not stood the test of time imo.
Does anyone play both DZC and Firestorm? Can you steer me in the right direction?
