Warhammer Age Of Sigmar shakes with the beating hooves and weapon clamour of both the Beasts Of Chaos and the Gloomspite Gitz this weekend. Games Workshop will be firing up pre-orders for both armies as they get updated Battletomes for use with their Fantasy wargame.

Both of these Battletomes will come with both their full art version and their regular version as options to buy from Saturday. Inside, you'll find updated information on both forces including Path To Glory rules which allow you to build up a narrative behind your burgeoning horde.

Of the two, I think I prefer the artwork on the cover of the Gloomspite Gitz book. I think the art matches up well with the army and gives you a good sense of how they'd appear on the tabletop, rampaging forward as this seething carpet of gnashing teeth and poisoned weapons.

New Miniatures

There isn't much to report when it comes to new miniatures. Both forces get themselves new hero models to choose from including this bellowing (braying?) Beastlord with his twin axes at the ready.

I like it. It's a big burly Beastman looking to chop off heads. It doesn't blow me away though and there's a lot of the Beastman range that could have done with a refresh. I'm looking at you Minotaurs. Maybe it's something they'll get around to later down the line.

The Gloomspite Gitz got themselves this rather awesome Squigboss With Gnasha-squig.

I like the design of the armour and the cloak with the mushrooms breaking out of the top. The weapon looks mean and deadly (perfect for a Goblin) and I like that the mask is somewhat mirrored on the Squig he has under his command. He is giving off serious Doctor Doom vibes! Maybe you could paint him up in a big green cloak?

The Gloomspite Gitz did get themselves another plastic set though in the form of the Snarlfang Riders.

I think these are probably some of the best miniatures they've released for Warhammer Age Of Sigmar in a while. I like the Old World vibes of this little collection and they seem like they would be as at home rampaging through The Empire as they would be tearing across the Mortal Realms. A solid set with lots of potential for taking the Gitz in a different direction.

New Vanguard Sets

As well as the new miniatures, we also got some revamped Vanguard sets for both forces. These should give you a decent starting force to use alongside the new Battletomes.

The Beasts Of Chaos set is led by a powerful Bray Shaman alongside ten Gors, ten Ungors and ten Bestigors. You also get three Dragon Ogors for a bit of added muscle. With the addition of the new Beastlord, you should have a pretty good force, ready to smash down the new cities of the Sigmarites.

I still think the old Gor and Ungor kits look great and the miniatures are fun to paint. The same can be said of the Dragon Ogors and the Bray Shaman, at least in my opinion. The Bestigors do feel like a unit that could have done with a bit of an update though to boost their ferocity.

An avalanche of muscle, teeth and bone is awaiting you as part of the new Vanguard set for the Gloomspite Gitz.

Led by a chaotically anointed Loonboss, you've got a set of twenty Moonclan Stabbas (who can be built as Shootas) alongside ten Squig Hoppers (or Boingrot Bounderz) and then three Rockgut Troggoths. It seems like a decent swarm for overwhelming your enemies as long as you play them in the right way. Don't get them shot before they've had a chance to ambush your opponent!

I really like the updated designs for the Troggoths. I am a massive fan of the old blue Trolls that Games Workshop made for the Old World and these feel like a nice, natural evolution of that design to make them feel bigger and meaner.

Could you be tempted by these factions for use in Warhammer Age Of Sigmar?
