The SBG Magazine crew has created another cracking issue of their unofficial fanzine for the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game. Pre-orders are currently being taken at [email protected] with an official release of September 17th.

SBG Magazine Issue 7 Cover

This issue is quite the belter with possibly one of the coolest battle reports that I think I've read through in a long time. Thorin & Company are crossing through the Misty Mountains as Goblins harass them and Stone Giants battle in the skies above!

SBG Magazine Issue 7 Spread 2

The battle report has been put together very well indeed and shows off just why the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game is so well regarded as a rules set. It is able to create some fantastically narrative moments like this which get people like Tom & Damian from SBG excited to do something as wild as this!

If you're interested in seeing how this board game to life, the team has talked with Tim Croft as you can see below on the construction of this monolithic project.

SBG Magazine Issue 7 Spread 1

You might find some inspiration to try something like this for yourself! Thrown into this mix of hobby and gaming we also got ANOTHER battle report in this issue which sees the Chase Along The Frozen River from the extended edition of Battle Of Five Armies.

SBG Magazine Issue 7 Spread 4

The issue also has a good focus on the tactical aspects of using some of these models in your games by looking at how best to employ the forces of the Iron Hills on the battlefield.

If hobby is more your thing then they also have some great articles for you to flick through including one on conversions and a painting masterclass by Kev Lawrence.

SBG Magazine Issue 7 Spread 3

As always, this new issue is a wealth of great content for those getting stuck into the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game. With so many people returning thanks to the new edition it's nice to have a resource like this for people to dip into.

It's in part thanks to people like Tom & Damian, as well as the wider 'Middle-earth' community out there that we have this game to return to. If it hadn't been for a lot of passion behind the scenes from them I don't think Games Workshop would have been quite so ready to come back to the property with such gusto!

Make sure to pick this up if you're getting back into Middle-earth wargaming and need something to spark the imagination.
