Happy Weekend!!
Happy weekend 😀
Glad to be back 🙂
I have to say Ben is 100% spot on when he is talking about how with people didn’t know what kingdoms death was about. There is a lot that is confused about Kingdom Death Monster.
I mean take a look at the name, from an persuasion stand point what does it mean? Kingdom of Death Monsters? The Death of the Kingdom of Monsters? Monsters of Death Kingdom?
I have one of the original lions, but I never ended up getting the game when it first came out because I had no idea what it was about. I got the lion because I liked the high fidelity of models and when I got the lions, I realised… They were a little too anatomical and and it isn’t something I could use at a club with kids or at a store. I have even heard in one podcast people complain about how the models make it out like and I am quoting, “It’s like they think the penis is evil”. This with a lot of the other things I have heard about the game until I have seen it actually played, well a lot of that is confusion around it to say the least.
It comes out of a Gigeresque, Freudian, Jungian horror. A game of survival.
I think after the years like Ben said, having a better idea of what it is, is what has helped it become the success it is.
Oh for #$#$ sake Santa , give John a tank kit or two
I already have so many! But always room for one more.
Quick, hit the reset button on Ben!
I have just emailed a link to this video to all my family and friends.
Also to every single one of my colleagues just incase they get me for secret santa.
And obviously I sent a link to the big man himself (Santa).
Hopefully people will take the hint!
Should be a good Christmas!!!!
Subtlety thy name is @warzan
hmmmm, I’m liking the thought of the macharius as one of the big WW2 cats. I also really like the netting look, like its trying to be “sneaky” and just waiting to ambush some helpless enemy machines.
Either the grey or one of the German camos, perhaps? also really like company stripe idea , cause 40k loves its banners on these big rare machines.
I’d totally be in for a ww2-ish scheme, with that company stripe on it. As for the grey, it would give plenty of scope for cool shading and highlighting. Either way im ITCHING to get stuck in when were ready to film it 🙂
Happy Saturday, I have the ultimate gamer gift … next weekend, a trip to Colraine for Dropfleet Commander. ..
Going to be epic…lol
It’ll be great to see you again
Morning Guys.
Very good show this week. I really loved the what to get a gamer gifts section very subtle.
THAT’S THE “WHAT TO BUY A GAMER SECTION”!!!!
Some CCGs use bridge size, not standard. I need to show my wife this Weekender. Always nice is a gift certificate to your Friendly Local Game Store, or your cherished one’s favorite online store. Or better yet, just get their backerkit login and add one of everything offered in the Kickstarter, except for t-shirts and mugs. Those aren’t toys, and I already have enough shirts, Alex.
The “what to buy the gamer” section needs its own youtube video that can be shared. Also, if the Beasts are taking requests, can we get a weekender in Warren’s living room before the end of the year? There was a point a couple years ago when Studio 1 was being built (if memory serves) that had the guys drinking tea around a small table sitting by the fireplace, enjoying a cozy morning in. I’d like to see a Christmas Weekender from the living room, having a chat by the fire, teas in hands, discussing how the Scourge wiped out the UCM Crusiers killing people by the thousands while dipping a bikkie gently into a steaming up of leaves boiled mercilessly in water.
Is @brennon filming the weekender in his dressing gown? I can almost hear the advancing bulldozer!
Lol, brilliant. 😉
I wish haha. No just a big jumper 😉 The Arthur Dent reference is appreciated though haha
Highlight of the show – Ben losing the ability to speak. 🙂
We wanta ‘Bleauh bleuah wumble bluuh blah damnit’ moment in every show from now on!
@warzan you missed one very important gift choice……A backstage pass for probably the best online vlog for the hobby….Beasts of war.! Have a great Xmas holiday all.
It’s the Weekend!
Best Christmas Present for me this year? Time!
Time to catch up with lots of hobby rather than having to taxi family around the country visiting relatives….
I’m slightly concerned by the way @dignity is caressing his baubles 🙂
Do not fear I have him well trained in ‘bauble caressing’ techniques!
😉
I want a BoW Bag for xmas any idea when i can get one Warren
Scragglybeard, thanks for your generosity – Thanks to your thoughtfulness we all get to see a new awesome parts to painted video 🙂
Speaking of parts to painted, very much looking forward to the 4ground building weathering/retouching mentioned earlier on.
Also, sorry Warren, Justin nailed it – that D&D grid gaming mat is awesome (although apparently more of a niche product…). Would be especially useful for gaming on the road…
I was adding snow to my Battle of the Bulge Germans’ cobblestone bases, took a break and put Weekender on and you start with that mat! That’s just perfect for an Ardennes town in winter. One question though, where can I buy one? Kraken website only has a link to their current KS.
Couldn’t locate through their web store but they are listed here:
https://www.fantasywelt.de/Kraken-Mats
I’m looking forward to seeing what the 4Ground/ Bushido combo will have in store for us next year 😎
The KD:M KS is just insane! I’ve had set the alarm but by the time I’ve read thruogh it all and pledged they’ve reached $2M already and 3000+ people had already made their minds up..
Still got a Black Friday tho!! Roll on summer ’17 🙂
Actually the best Gamer Gift is a Backstage Membership.
Channeling some real “Waynes World” there, fellas.
I love it!
Great show guys.
I always buy my gifts or give a list to my brother for Christmas. The most fun about that is that the rest of the family is more surprised and interested with what I get then me, especially my two nephews and the dog. He really loves it when people get gifts and packages especially miniatures games.
Nice show. I really enjoyed the what to be your gamer other have. As for Kingdom Death: Monster sorry but it just doesn’t tickle my fancy. I have seen your let’s play on it & I did enjoy the characters getting their butts kicked, who doesn’t like a good butt kicking unless it’s your butt that is getting kicked. $250 for just the core box game really doesn’t tickle my fancy.
Now just putting this out there what is the most expensive core box game people have bought or bought into via Kickstarter? Mine is Cthulhu Wars: Onslaught two.
I showed my younger brother (also a wargamer) the stands and trays. We’ve decided to get each other a paint stand and tray for Christmas stocking fillers lol. Also great job introducing me to new places to get cool hobby items. Never heard of TTCombat before. They’ll defo be getting my business now.
Check out their scatter trash, etc. too. A few blisters of it landed here this week and it’s lovely.
Lets hope the subliminal messages get through eh 🙂 also jungle scheme for the tanks would be epic.
http://frontierwargaming.com/?product=paint-case
That is the best portable and hideable paintsolution. It is as än small Case. Got One last christmas. If you are traveling much or have small hobby space this is for you
Happy weekend!
Thanks for the laughs guys 🙂
Guildball pre-assemble plastics is a good thing, allows you to quickly play the game, a fact that i love when i went with Star Wars Imperial Assault! Now i just need to paint them.
I said it on YouTube, but I’ll say it again: the sign that Lancorz was holding is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen on Beasts of War. I chuckled to myself for so long. High point of my day.
kingdom death monster the frogdogs ********
expensive, yes. worth the cost of two other game, hell yes.
there has been a fair amount of mud thrown at monster this week as some people tried to **** on our chips. most of the time on beasts of war people are content to cheerlead the games they are excited about and leave off commenting on games they don’t like, because why be so insecure about your gaming choices. no problem with people raising issues or asking questions or giving your opinion when asked, but some of the comments have been a bit off.
as for monsters more controversial aspects I think that rather than hiding behind some false sensibility paraded on a surface level kingdom death monster approaches the subject matter head on. i’m going to presume that everyone who doesn’t like the content is celibate, either that or there putting on a socially acceptable mask. the world is dominated by aggressive and sexual motivations in strikingly blunt and obvious ways. unless you can accept that that is the case but be unmoved by it your kidding yourself.
not quite sure why the extreme violence in monster and just about every other game is acceptable while the idea that sexual motives are not, it just seems unbalanced and hypocritical.
i’m personally celibate and don’t watch porn, and the figures don’t lie i’m in the minority, yet i’m fine with monster dealing with sexuality in the same visual way in which it treats violence. of course monster gives you the option to turn your back on this way of life and focus on other paths as well as giving in to the darkness and revelling in hedonism and violence. but one thing it won’t do is pretend its not there.
so rather than appeasing the social conventions on a given subject so as to appeal to their false sensibilities it deals with the subjects regardless.
Adam lets you avoid this content to a certain point, but in all honesty I think you miss some of the point of monster, at least in my eyes. you will certainly have to deal with monster wangs. satan and the wet nurse pull no punches, and their no pinups.
kingdom death monster is undiluted and unrestrained in design, vision and cost. its the game that no one else would make and its what makes this the truly unique table top experience that it is.
you don’t have to agree with me to enjoy monster and don’t let it put you off this gorgeous product as it can be experienced without this content as Ben said. the fantasy horror aspects of the game are worth the entry price. the monsters and knights are stunning.
I just wanted to say my piece on this on the off chance someone may reconsider their view on some of monsters more controversial content.
kingdom death monster 14 million, the darkness whispered it to me.
love your games and love other people loving theirs, you will spend less of your life unhappy.
peace and love and kingdom death monster
But @warzan , if they are get card sleeve love for Christmas, they won’t need to rub it out anymore. 😉 😛
I do love the mat guys.
Happy Weekend!
Well, that was about as subtle as an Orbital Kinetic Strike 😀
with that Scatter Terrain, am I the only one who half expected to see a certain type of hat near that refrigerator 😉
Great show guys ;D
So, what are you getting your little brush slave John for Christmas, Warren, hmmm?
More brushes and a chain cleaner I reckon 😉
a great show guys especially the Wayne’s World does QVC section.
Awww! @johnlyon ‘s little tank note to Santa is adorable. “Dear Santa: Plz send me sum tankie-tanks!” 😀 😀
Hi guys. With regard to the lets plays.Loads of people make mistakes during their first few games.Me and my friend played two games of dropfleet before we realised that frigates DO roll on the crippled table.I read the rule as any ship with 4 or less hull points does not roll on it.It actually reads any ship with less than 4 hull points. When trying to memorise a 200 page rulebook mistakes are easily made.
What’s this about a competition requiring card gamers to sleeve their cards and do so with opaque backs? Surely the backs of most decks of cards are standard: what secret information is it that ‘I’m a driver’ cards have which require the player to no return to it?
Earlier this year I purchased myself several pieces of a modular paint station for my work table. Best investment ever. Everything has its own place, brushes, tools, paints (all types of bottles held in the one rack) and is easily accessible. it has also made a whole heap of extra room on my work table.
@warzan, below is the link for this stuff. Check it out, it’s the best I’ve seen anywhere.

That christmas gift segment was atrocious yet hilarious. 😀
The succes of Kingdom Death took me by surprise too. I woke up to a KD newsletter last Friday, realized the project was live, so quickly browsed to the project page. The total was already over a million, but there were still some early bird options left. By the time I was done reading the info and all the pledge levels all the early birds for the full game were gone.
I’m really curious to see how high this kickstarter project will go. And then I’m really curious to see how the production and delivery of so many more packages than expected will be dealt with.
Biggest kickstarter is Glowforg at
$27,907,995 SOLD IN 30 DAYS
THE BIGGEST 30-DAY CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGN IN HISTORY
Didn’t Star Citizen eventually get to something like 130 million? May have been more than one Kickstarter, though, and I think some of the funding was raised independently. And they still haven’t finished, last I heard. 🙁
Brilliant ideas guys
Thanks for another great show
While your hobby gift guide doesn’t overly excite me this year, perhaps you could also release it (and its future iterations) as a separate video so we can link to it directly for our friends, and on FB?
blue grey colour scheme for the tank with weathering is the way to go scraggleybeard .
I got my hands on the new GB kick off set. The plastics are really nice (almost no seam lines), I totally support their move to pre-assembled plastics!
Great holiday gift guide and the recommendation of card sleeves as stocking stuffers is a fantastic suggestion, but Yu-Gi-Oh does not use standard size sleeves like Magic or Pokemon. They are smaller cards, much like Cardfight Vanguard. Just wanted to point that out.
Another gift Idea for a Gamer/modeler would be a Dremel, great for working on big resin kits like that Macharius and they will also have it when you need small things done around the house.
Keep the Lets Play rolling. It has to be my favorite series you all have. I would suggest adding an easy to find button to show all the Lets Play available.
Chessex makes square and hex grid vinyl mats in various scales. They can be ordered in single or double sided format (with one grid on each side). Additionally, you can get them in numerous sizes, including 3ft x 4ft.
Nice chat show
Another great episode guys!
As for the tank- if it was me I would either give it to a Inquisitor or a Commissar as a bit of kit that powerful they would keep for themselfs.
