Full Khymaera Shadowflame Shard Previewed For Warmachine!
September 12, 2023 by brennon
Privateer Press has now revealed a full preview of what they have coming up for the Khymaera Shadowflame Shard! A new preview Battlebox is on the way PLUS a new Faction Army Starter for you to sink your teeth into when playing the 35mm scale Fantasy wargame, Warmachine.
Rassyk, Spawn of Shadows // Warmachine
We start off with Rassyk Spawn of Shadows once more alongside his new Preview Battlebox. This is another new Warlock and Warbeast set for use in Warmachine and a great look at more of the fringe factions battling it out across the lands of Immoren. Here's some background on the Khymaera Shadowflame Shard...
"In the lightless depths of the deepest caverns beneath the Wyrmwall Mountains, a cancer has been flourishing unseen: an army of flesh-crafted dragonkin whose shapes and forms have been perfected by the influence of the power of the goddess of machines, Cyriss, and who have been trained and guided in the arts of subtlety and assassination by their creator Rhyas. Now they are forced to make their presence known. These patient killers had been biding their time, spreading unnoticed through the hive tunnels below. But a new force marches upon the surface world that threatens to swallow the essential resources necessary for their long-term plans. Stirred to action, this army of living weapons will turn their blades against any that stand in their way."
Very cool. I thought that I was properly enamoured by Dusk House Kallyss but I think I might have found a new favourite in the Shadowflame Shard. It's good that Privateer Press are making me eager to check out two factions rather than just one!
Rassyk, Spawn of Shadows is the leader of this little cabal and was created as both a bodyguard and an executioner. He embodies the power of a dragon in his manner and personality. Nice. Through his training, he manages his beasts and troops through use of misdirection and feints before striking at the heart of the enemy.
Talking of Warbeasts, here are the two that get included as part of the Preview Battlebox. This is the fearsome Vypex.
Vypex // Warmachine
Whilst this might be a Heavy Warbeast, it can use its dexterity to glide through the enemy ranks and strike with speed and grave. You get a bunch of fun bits and bobs to tinker with when it comes to this miniature including claws, spikes, brutal snapping jaws and weaponised tails. It can also be used as a spell battery in your games.
You can also pick up the equally awesome Hydrix.
Hydrix // Warmachine
The Hydrix steps into the ring as the more brutal and durable Warbeast. It can also be tweaked to match the needs of the Warlock so you can go with ranged options, melee or perhaps a blend of the two depending on who you're going up against. Again, it also looks great! This preview Battlebox is going to be coming up very soon.
New Khymaera Shadowflame Shard Core Army Starter!
As well as the Preview Battlebox, we also got to have a look at the new Khymaera Shadowflame Shard Core Army Starter that will follow on from the above set of three miniatures.
Khymaera Shadowflame Shard Core Army Starter // Warmachine
This set comes with Shyryss, the Flawless Dark leading the way alongside a pretty immense draconic force. You've got the Vypex and the Hydrix alongside four new units, two command attachments and one solo. It can be tweaked to go from forty-seven points to sixty-six depending on how you make your Warbeasts.
An immense set of miniatures to help you take Warmachine in a different direction once again! I really like that we've got some classic factions for the new edition of Warmachine with Cygnar and Khador but then plenty of unique-feeling forces like Orgoth, Dusk House Kallyss, the Brineblood Marauders (a nice twist on Trollbloods) and now the Khymaera Shadowflame Shard.
Could you be tempted by these new miniatures for Warmachine?
"An immense set of miniatures to help you take Warmachine in a different direction once again!"
That Vypex looks very much like a take on Starcraft zerg
It is Zerg-ish!
Ooh I love the two cyber worm/snakes models.
Love the look of these and seriously tempted…
