This is another great set for those wanting to play out the Mid-War period of World War II. Could this be your way into playing more Flames Of War?
Do you like the new US set for Flames Of War?
Ooh Patton’s pincer force.
i agree with the M10 comment, it just doesn’t feel right. i think it was more a sicily, italy where it was used more often, i think it was included just to allow the US player a chance to kill a Tiger, the tiger may not be in a starter box but many a german force in Tunisia will field a tiger, even though it was still very rare. No infantry an issue but infantry are the next upgrade. Overall, i think given all the boxes released, i have to say , all could use improvement and all raise real questions as to why things were added, seems alot of 88s but again, it was quite rare but it made a real impact. i think a nice video would be take all the boxes, which item would you remove and replace with what and what is your logic for doing so. Take infantry out since all could use it…..now, let’s see who replies to this challenge.
The criteria whether something gets into a starter box is, is it plastic? 😉 The M10s are a bit borderline for a North Africa themed starter like this. They did get to see some use in early 1943 so it fits from that perspective. They are here inevitably to deal with a German player wanting to add Tigers asap. Whether you need 4 in this starter is debatable. Pointswise the starter comes in way over what you would need so you have options. The AA I find the least useful given that none of the starters are running aircraft and it adds complexity. It has other uses and well plastic…
The lack of infantry in all this starters I don’t really see as an issue. Sure it takes out part of the combined arms experience, but for a starter adding in infantry adds a lot in terms of the rules. And also slows down gameplay. Learning the game by moving around different types of tanks back up by artillery and some AT-guns is a good starting point for someone new. Adding infantry can be done later.
